An Inconvenient Sleet

I hear the scrape of steel on concrete

as neighbors struggle with the cold and wet.

General Winter and his storm troops

aren’t finished with us yet.

If we get these cars unburied

the icy roads still are a threat

People shivering at the bus stop

believe mass transit their best bet.

The airports closed, the planes are grounded

Transportation can’t be found

Here and there a bus is moving

Crawling around Gotham town

Staten Island Chuck is freezing

In his burrow underground

Well he should hide, that lying rodent.

I’d whack that mole could he be found.

Al Gore, in a piece of fiction,

Spoke of unremitting heat

I truly hope his butt is buried

Beneath this inconvenient sleet

Note

The discredited groundhog, S.I. Chuck, called for an early spring.

His Darkest Hour

he guarded the night once
the Darkest Knight some called him
fighting crime, protecting the innocent
it’s what he did best
no moments were spared
for he was what the city needed
a vigilante with wings.
though times have changed
he is no longer what Gotham needs
betraying his city
corrupting Gotham’s finest
with his bare hands.
although the question still rises
the city needs its knight
protecting the innocent
from evil such as this.

New York City

Standing on the corner
Just me and yoko ono
We was waiting for jerry to land
Up come a man with a guitar in his hand
Singing, have a marijuana if you can
His name was david peel
And we found that he was real
He sang, the pope smokes dope every day
Up come a policeman shoved us up the street
Singing, power to the people today!
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Well down to maxs kansas city
Got down the nitty gritty
With the elephants memory band
Laid something down
As the news spread around
About the plastic ono elephants memory band!
And we played some funky boogie
And laid some tutti frutti
Singing, long tall sallys a man.
Up come a preacherman trying to be a teacher
Singing, gods a red herring in drag!
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
Well we did the staten island ferry
Making movies for the telly
Played the fillmore and apollo for freedom
Tried to shake our image
Just a cycling through the village
But found that we had left it back in london
Well nobody came to bug us
Hustle us or shove us
So we decided to make it our home
If the man wants to shove us out
We gonna jump and shout
The statue of liberty said, come!
New york city...new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?
New york city...back in new york city...new york city
Que pasa, new york?
Que pasa, new york?

Gotham City (with english version)

Gotham City

Mas é preciso ser batman em gotham city,
É preciso ler gibi antigo e desfolhado,
Sendo morcego, não ser vampiro, ser beat,
Besouro caindo nos ouvidos deflorados.

Mas é preciso ser batman em gotham city,
Roncando o motor turbinado do bat-carro,
Gostar de Liszt, saber tudo e tudo cite!
Tomar copos de leite e não fumar cigarro!

Sendo o batman enfrento o coringa e o pingouin,
A sensual mulher gato que me arranha as pernas
E o peito e declara estranha paixão por mim!

Ter sempre ao meu lado um Robbin longe a tavernas;
É preciso ser batman em gothan city enfim,
Pra a luta ao som do rock, morar em caverna!

Gotham City

But is crave to be batman in gotham city,
Is crave to read old and defoliate comics,
Being bat, not to be vampire, being beat,
Beetle falling in the deflorated ears.

But is crave to be batman in gotham city,
Snoring the turbining motor of the bat-car,
To like Liszt, to know everything and everything cite!
To take milk cups and not to smoke cigarette!

Being batman I face coringa and pingouin,
the sensual woman cat that scratches me legs
and the chest and declares stranger passion for me!

To always have to my side a Robbin far the taverns;
She is crave to be batman in gothan city at last,
For the fight to the sound of the rock, to live in cave!

Peace Proposal

Said General Clay to General Gore really must we fight this silly war
To kill and die in such a bore I quite agree said General Gore
Said General Gore to General Clay we could go to the beach today
And have some icecream on the way a grand idea said General Clay
Said General Clay to General Gore we'll build sand castles on the shore
Said General Gore we'll splash and play let's leave right now said General Clay
Said General Gore to General Clay but what if the sea's closed today
And what if the sand's been blown away the dreadful thought said General Clay
Said General Gore to General Clay I've always feared the ocean's spray
And we may drown it's true we may it chills my blood said General Clay
Said General Clay to General Gore my bathin' suit is slightly tore
We better go on with our war I quite agree said General Gore
The General Clay chanrged General Gore as bullets flew and cannons roared
And now at last there is no more of General Clay or General Gore

J'adore the underground

Underground,
London is awake, the city is moving,
Business is created.
underground,
Love is in the air,
Children are born, one up, one down
London is buzzing.
Underground, underground,
People meet, chat, laugh,
Get acquainted, start walking
Passion is created.
Underground, underground
Take me around, show me all the places
That I haven’t found.
Underground, take me to the airport
London is connected.
Underground, underground
Modern technology, old wisdom
Schools are open, universities are visited.
Underground, take me home, mind the gap,
you keep moving all seasons.
Underground without you, London is like sun without ammunition.
You keep London moving, motivated.
Underground, underground
J'adore you.

And now, alas! there is no more

Hard Times In New York Town

Come you ladies and you gentlemen, a-listen to my song.
Sing it to you right, but you might think its wrong.
Just a little glimpse of a story Ill tell
Bout an east coast city that you all know well.
Its hard times in the city,
Livin down in new york town.
Old new york city is a friendly old town,
From washington heights to harlem on down.
Theres a-mighty many people all millin all around,
Theyll kick you when youre up and knock you when youre down.
Its hard times in the city,
Livin down in new york town.
Its a mighty long ways from the golden gate
To rockefeller plaza n the empire state.
Mister rockefeller sets up as high as a bird,
Old mister empire never says a word.
Its hard times from the country,
Livin down in new york town.
Well, its up in the mornin tryin to fins a job of work.
Stand in one place till your feet begin to hurt.
If you go a lot o money you can make yourself merry,
If you only got a nickel, its the staten island ferry.
And its hard times in the city,
Livin down in new york town.
Mister hudson come a-sailin down the stream
And old mister minuet paid for his dream.
Bought your city on a one-way track,
f I had my way Id sell it right back.
And its hard times in the city,
Livin down in new york town.
Ill take all the smog in cal-i-for-ne-ay,
n every bit of dust in the oklahoma plains,
n the dirt in the caves of the rocky mountain mines.
Its all much cleaner than the new york kind.
And its hard times in the city,
Livin down in new york town.
So all you newsy people, spread the news around,
You cn listen to m story, listen to m song.
You cn step on my name, you cn try n get me beat,
When I leave new york, Ill be standin on my feet.
And its hard times in the city,
Livin down in new york town.

Vicki Waiting

Im of the mind to make some mookie.
Phonebook...
The phone rings, its vicki callin
She wants me 2 come 2 the crib
She says conversations better than being lonely
So I try my best to ad lib
I told the joke about the woman
Who asked her lover why is your organ so small?
He replied I didnt know I was playin in a cathedral.
Vicki didnt laugh at all.
Chorus:
This is where she wants 2 be
I am what she wants 2 see
I never known a love so sweet
Still I keep vicki waiting...
Alright
All is well in gotham city
The sound of terror is all u hear
Sometimes a pistol takes the place of her body
Sometimes her bodys here
But u see when crime is your only love
All that matter is the present, the here and now
People, people, whatever floats this jokers boat
Is whatever this joker will bang
Chorus
Oh yeah
Talk of children still frightens me
Is my character enough 2 be
One that deserves a copy made?
This I one day, hope 2 see
Until then shes held at bay
By my animal-like persistence
Or maybe shes just 2 proud 2 say
That fate (fate) brought us together
And this is where she wants 2 stay
Chorus
Chorus
All is well in gotham town
This is where she wants 2 be
I am what she wants 2 see
Ive never known a love so sweet
Still I keep vicki
Still I keep vicki
Still I keep vicki waiting (waiting)
Aha aha
Still I keep vicki
Still I keep vicki waiting
This is where she wants 2 be

The last sunshine

The cold breeze
with icy freezing fingers
brushed leaves freezing
against the windowpanes.

Rain fell from a cold grey sky
seeping trough everything,
driving the freezing winter in.

I tried to lock the winter out
closed French louver windowpanes
and to only let
the much too timid sun in.

Outside the evergreen bay leave tree
that had been blown over
in a summer storm

have sprouted new long stems
covered with green leaves
already growing higher
than the roof
moving to and fro
as if rocked by the wind.

Distance is locking you out
and in your mind
we are growing apart
and are in a winter
of the heart

and you are sad
and read a farewell
in my lines
although I am still trying
to catch the last sunshine
of that which lies
between us.

Realization

You heard me screaming-
I could not hear
Your silent tears, and
You read my despair and
Hopelessness in the
Avid darkness
As you glanced, though
Cryptically into
My ebony eyes –
A soul wracked with pain, and
A heart sinking with
Concern and the
Love I could never see until
A few days before you passed-
It was only when you were dying that
I became aware of your profound love for me-
Trees stark against a lead hued sky, and
A mixture of sleet, snow and rain
Would fall from the dark and ominous clouds.
Fog descended over the
Buildings that surrounded ours- while
Cars skated down and up the
Highway outside-
People ambled aimlessly
Along the damp and filthy city sidewalks,
While days just passed slowly and quickly
Simultaneously-
As in a slow motion picture
You would exit the bathroom,
Towels hung in disarray on the towel bars and
Sheets on the bed lay rumpled,
Where none but a shadow of where you had slept remained-
Though only a few hours,
Interrupted by the pain, anguish and desolation
That was so obviously eminent behind
Your pallid face, from which
All expression and life had been erased –
Today I am still screaming though the sounds have been muted by
My efforts to conceal the
War that still wages inside my befuddled mind-
I once believed that you were my enemy and my
Reluctant caretaker until I read the letter
Inscribed on that scrap torn from that yellow legal pad-
Your pen spoke honestly and frankly of
Your love and devotion to me,
That I did not see- until that final moment when
The snow began to fall hard and the wind
Would rattle the storm windows,
That had never been cleaned-
Looking outside those windows now
I can still see the cars racing up and down the street,
People walking in a stupor
Perhaps wishing the winter would end-
And this is a winter that I would never forget-
Only because I finally realized that
You were the only mother I ever had and that
I was your one and only child-
You gave birth to me and
Gave me a beautiful name-
At this very moment
I love you as much as I have finally realized that
I was none but precious to you- although
Our lives together had been a nightmare.
Sleet, snow and freezing rain
Are rudely hitting the windowpanes and
I remember that day I lost my sanity,
It was also on a cold January day-
Hope was blinded by a snowstorm and
Tears were falling like sleet would
Hard upon the pavement-
I look up into the steel-hued sky and
Whisper none but a prayer and
Three words “I love you, ” and to myself,
“Can you hear me? ” and
I know the answer inside my breaking heart, as I
Walk away while
Darkness descends over the city on this bleak and dreary winter’s night…

Shivering And Not Singing

Cold and freezing in low degrees,
Leaving people to turn up their collars.
Mittens, earmuffs and coats of fleece,
Leaving people to turn up their collars.

And breezes seem to hollar...
'Winter's here and will slick the streets.'
Leaving people to turn up their collars.
The snow is deep and boots are needed on feet,
Leaving people to turn up their collars.

And spending more to crank up that heat...
While wrapped in blankets,
And warm bed sheets.
Oh...
Shivering and not singing in their homes.
Shivering are many doing this alone.

Winter's here and will slick the streets.'
Leaving people to turn up their collars.
And spending more to crank up that heat...
While wrapped in blankets and warm bed sheets.
And...
Shivering and not singing in their homes.
Shivering are many doing this alone.
Shivering and not singing in their homes.
Shivering are many doing this alone.

And spending more to crank up that heat...
While wrapped in blankets and warm bed sheets.
And...
Shivering and not singing in their homes.
Shivering are many doing this alone.
Oh...
Shivering and not singing in their homes.
Oh...
Shivering are many doing this alone.
Oh...
Shivering and not singing in their homes.
Oh...
Shivering are many doing this condoned!

New York City

You called me last night on the telephone
And I was glad to hear from you cause I was all alone
You said, its snowing, its snowing! god, I hate this weather.
Now I walk through blizzards just to get us back together
We met in the springtime at a rock-and-roll show
It was on the bowery when it was time to go
We kissed on the subway in the middle of the night
I held your hand, you held mine, it was the best night of my life.
cause everyones your friend in new york city
And everything looks beautiful when youre young and pretty
The streets are paved with diamonds and theres just so much to see
But the best thing about new york city is you and me
Statue of liberty, staten island ferry, co-op city, katzs and tiffanys*
Central park, brooklyn bridge, the empire state where dylan lived**
Coney island and times square, rockefeller center
Wish I was there
You wrote me a letter just the other day
Said, springtime is coming soon so why dont you come to stay.
I packed my stuff, got on the bus, I cant believe its true
Im three days from new york city and Im three days from you
cause everyones my friend in new york city
And everything looks beautiful when youre young and pretty
The streets are paved with diamonds and theres just so much to see
But the best thing about new york city is you and me
cause everyones my friend in new york city

The Dark Knight Rises

When Gotham needs its hero back,
He's waiting in the wings,
The Dark Knight rises dressed in black
To bring all that he brings...

Back in the game, opponents fall,
He conquers one-by-one,
Such that for Gotham he gives all,
Until the battle's done...

The Batman's played the game before,
Surviving day-by-day,
To scale the heights, even the score,
His martial arts display...

He bides his time, then strikes so fast,
Somehow to turn the tide,
Such that for Gotham danger's past
And peace can then abide...

He sacrifices life and limb,
In fact, his very soul,
In hopes that though the future's grim,
He strives yet gains control...

Beware if in his way you stand,
He knows what he must do,
Such that for Gotham things are planned
So Batman captures you!

One man can make a difference, friends,
One hero standing tall,
One champion who comprehends,
Defending great and small...

When Batman's legend comes to mind,
He holds his head up high,
Such that new courage he will find
Before his last goodbye...

1104 Wintertime Blues

This Poem is dedicated to everyone
who thinks their Town or Village
closes down in Winter!

What has become of my poor Town
Now that the Winter's really is here?
The Cafe tables have been stowed
And all the cars are our of gear!

All the houses have been shuttered
They seem empty - quiet - still
All the gardens are uncluttered
There's no flowers on the sill!

There's less sign of bussling life
On the Town Centre Arcade
Where I'd sit and watch my wife
Haggle with the passing trade!

The Corner Cafe is very quiet
The freezing swimming pool is closed
No chance of Winter Regatta
Now the Harbour has all froze!

The old freindly French knife sharpner
Now no longer passes through
And Chop Low - the Chinese gardener
Has gone down with Asian Flu!

All the Station's clocks have stopped
And also has the daily train
Because so icy is the line
And deep snow's replaced the rain!

The local bar is changing hands
And the bookshop has closed down
The local park becomes a morgue
Since cold Winter came to Town!

Some folk really welcome Winter
The Town is now a quiter place
You can walk from dawn to sunset
Never see another face!

But it happens every year
Soon the Winter - it will go
Please cheer up don't shed a tear
Goes the Winter - Goes the snow!

And then soon will come the Spring
And the blossom all will grow
And the fledglings preen and sing
In the Sunny Springtime glow!

Spider

Spider crawling, on the wall
I see him and he, sees it all...
And he sees it all
I fell down in that lazy place,
Where the english language cant - penetrate and i
Saw your mouth moving - just forget it and lie here with me
Maybe we should just, climb under the sheets
Where the words they dont get in the way
We were wondering, if you recall
Is this the end of it - end of everything
We were wondering, wonder
Spider crawling - in my left ear
Has a message I - want you to hear
Hope youre happy - found what youre looking for
Do you miss me, miss me at all?
Spider tells me, saw you yesterday
With somebody new - what can I say?
What can i...
Spider crawling, I crawl with him -
We go everywhere, we see everything
We are falling, we are falling, falling to nowhere
Hope youre happy - found what youre looking for
Do you miss me, miss me at all?
Spider crawling, spider crawling, spider crawling...

“shaky Town”

Known as “City of Angels” by the pious
“Shaky Town” to those that drive truck
Gotham gangs, burbs and racial bias
Hellish place for an actor down on his luck

(To Brandon…hang in there my son)
