Experience

THE world was made when a man was born,
He must taste for himself the forbidden springs;
He can never take warning from old-fashion'd things;
He must fight as a boy, he must drink as a youth,
Of the friend of his soul; he must laugh to scorn
The hints of deceit in a woman's eyes--
They are clear as the wells of Paradise.

And so he goes on till the world grows old,
Till his toung has grown cautious, his heart has grown cold,
Till the smile leaves his mouth, till the ring leaves his laugh,
And he shirks the bright headache you ask him to quaff.
He grows formal with men, and with women polite,
And distrustful of both when they're out of his sight.
Then he eats for his palate and drinks for his head,
And loves for his pleasure,--and 'tis time he was dead.

A Passage

THE world was made when a man was born;
He must taste for himself the forbidden springs,
He can never take warning from old-fashioned things;
He must fight as a boy, he must drink as a youth,
He must kiss, he must love, he must swear to the truth
Of the friend of his soul, he must laugh to scorn
The hint of deceit in a woman's eyes
That are clear as the wells of Paradise.
And so he goes on, till the world grows old,
Till his tongue has grown cautious, his heart, has grown cold,
Till the smile leaves his mouth, and the ring leaves his laugh,
And he shirks the bright headache you ask him to quaff;

Till I Go Down

Till I go down
Till I go down
Till I go down
Im not gonna shut my eyes
Till I go down
Im not gonna shut my eyes
Ive already seen the lies
On the faces of the men of war
Leading people to the killing floor
Till I go down
Till I go down
Till I go down
Im not gonna shut my eyes
No no
Till I go down
Till the world stops spinning around
Till Im six feet under the ground
Till theres no sound
Till theres no pain
Im gonna swing this chain
Till I go down
Im not gonna shut my mouth
Im for the truth to come out
About the leader with the iron will
And his allegiance to the dollar bill
Till I go down
Till I go down
Till I go down
Im not gonna shut my eyes
Till I go down

Happy Birth Day

(On The First Birthday Of My Grand-daughter Eliza Zainab)

It is the wish of my soul, heart and brain
May you have happy day time and again,
Till the sun shines, till the world goes on.

May you never taste a moment of pain,
And you ever meet, not a loss but a gain.
Till the sun shines, till the world goes on.

May ever wrap you roses and perfumes,
Instead of tormenting smells and fumes,
Till the sun shines, till the world goes on.

I Want To Do Everything For You

I want to hold you in my arms 'till you say "turn me loose"
I want to do little things to you 'till you say "It ain't no use"
I want to wake you every morning with a good morning kiss
I want to kiss you to sleep the same way cause I, I know you like this
I want to do everything for you
Cause that's all that a man can do
When he loves a woman like I love you
And I love ya, love ya, love ya
I want to say sweet things to you 'till you say I've said enough
I want to stand right by your side when the goin' gets tough
I want to mend your broken heart till you say the hurt is gone
I want tostay with you always so that you won't be alone
I want to do everything for you
Cause that's all that a man can do
When he loves a woman like I love you
And I love ya, love ya, love ya
I want to work for you every day 'till you say "come home and rest"
I want to buy you pretty little things so you can look your best
I want to take you every where so the world can see what I got
I want to treat you with tender love 'till you say I've got to stop
I want to do everything for you
'Cause that's all that a man can do
When he loves a woman like I love you

I Tell The Sea

You are my reason to live All I own I would give
Just to have you adore me
Till the moon deserts the sky Till the all the seas run dry Till then I'll worship you
Till the tropic sun turns cold Till this young world grows old
My darling, I'll adore you
You are my reason to live All I own I would give
Just to have you adore me
Till the rivers flow upstream Till lovers cease to dream .Till then I'm yours, be mine

To Have And To Hold

As the seasons go circlin', and the years spin away
And the highway grows narrow, at the end of the day
There's a promise I made you, on the first day of spring
To have and to hold, this gold wedding ring
To have and to hold, 'till death do us part
In sickness or health, with all the love in my heart
For richer, for poorer, 'till we both have grown old
Through all of life's seasons, to have and to hold
And if we can have children, or live all alone
The light of our love, will forever be shown
Our union is timeless, our love beyond worth
To have and to hold, 'till the ends of the earth
To have and to hold, 'till death do us part
In sickness or health, with all the love in my heart
For richer, for poorer, 'till we both have grown old
Through all of life's seasons, to have and to hold
Through all of life's seasons, to have and to hold

The Rower's Chant

ROW till the land dip 'neath
The sea from view.
Row till a land peep up,
A home for you.

Row till the mast sing songs
Welcome and sweet,
Row till the waves, outstripped,
Give up, dead beat.

Row till the sea-nymphs rise
To ask you why
Rowing you tarry not
To hear them sigh.

Row till the stars grow bright
Like certain eyes.
Row till the noon be high
As hopes you prize.

Row till you harbour in
All longing's port.
Row till you find all things
For which you sought.

You Dont Know What Love Is

Ah hoo. oh, yeah yeah yeah yeah.
Oh ooh oh oh.
Last night I saw you as I stood in the rain
Brought me right back to that feeling again.
I tried to hide the tears in my eyes
But you didnt see as you walked on by.
Tried to forget ya, I tried to move on.
But the deeper Im feeling, the harder I fall.
Nothing else matters at all. let me tell you.
You dont know what love is till you lose it.
You dont know what youve got till it slips away.
Leaves you alone in the dark and takes you and tears you apart.
You dont know what love is till it breaks your heart.
Till it breaks your heart.
Sometimes I think back when our love was new.
The crazy things that we used to do.
How could love thats so right turn to something so wrong
Still cant believe that youre really gone.
Wish I could stop all these thoughts in my head
Wish I could take back the words that I said
Its a lesson Ill never forget. let me tell you.
You dont know what love is till you lose it.
You dont know what youve got till it slips away.
Leaves you alone in the dark. takes you and tears you apart.
You dont know what love is till it breaks your heart.
Ooh ooh. yeh.
Love has no season, no beginning nor end.
No rhyme or reason, to the way the story ends.
No way of knowing how a broken heart mends.
Still we keep fallin time and time again.
You dont know what love is till you lose it.
You dont know what youve got till it slips away.
Leaves you alone in the dark. takes you and tears you apart.
You dont know what love is till it breaks your heart.
Till it breaks your heart. ah ooh. till it breaks your heart.

A Woman Who Grew Into A Rose

(A Poem For 21st Century Women # 2)

(Prov.31: 10–31 / Prov.18: 22 / Matt.13: 10–15)

A Woman Who Grew
Into A Rose
Remains In GOD’s Garden
… and Grows

Her Heartbeats Blossoms
Opens To Disclose
The Prettiest, Feminine
Petals-Pose

A Woman Who Grows
Into A Rose
Her Fresh–Faith Fragrance
Wafts and Flows …

… into A Knowledge
Of Heaven–Scent
She Offers Her Keen
Spiritual–Sense …
(Prov.31: 26)

… which Intoxicates
A Wise Man’s Nose
with Each Blissful Breeze
… Benevolence Blows
(Prov.31: 11,12,28)

& A Woman Who’s Grown
Into A Rose
Stems To Sister Roses
Leaves of Sacred Prose
(Prov.31: 15)

Yes, There Are Lilies, Orchids
& Magnolia–Blooms
and Such Unique Flora
Has Their Trace–Perfume

… Lavenders, Gardenias
& Honeysuckle Aromas
Are Also Potent Enough
To Revive Fainting Comas
(Prov.31: 29)

But Many Wild Roses
In Many Rows & Rows
Are Limited In Layers
… No Cultivation Shows

For A Rose To Impress
Must Be Pruned & Dressed
& When Beautifully Blessed
Is Like A Flower–Empress! *
(Prov.31: 29,30)

& A Woman Who Grows
Into A Caring Rose
Is More Than An Ornament
With Ribbons & Bows …
_______________________

She Is A Woman Who Grows
Into A Rose
& Is Ready To Reap
What She Wisely Sows

& A Woman Who Grows
Into A Rose
Can Rest At Peace
In Sweet Repose

A Woman Who Grows
Into A Rose …
Away – Away! …
Pain Thorns She Throws

Away – Away! …
Her Fears Are Froze
‘Till GOD Will Crush
All Her Foes …

… A Rose Seed Was Buried
‘Till In Humility
The Rose Would Rise Up
In Grateful Modesty

So A Woman Who Grows
Into A Rose
Was Born To Believe
Resurrections’ Roles

Tho’ Other Flowers
Could Do – She Suppose
None Quite Spread Unfolded
… Like A Rose

… in Trust & Courage
& Edges Exposed
Yet Will Not Wilt
Because of Woes …

& Rivers & Rainstorms
& Mountain Streams
The Roots of The Rose
… Have Drank From These

But Twas’ Crystal Fountains
& One Drop of Christ’s Blood
Gave Deep Wells of Life
To Dark-Red Rosebud …

… The Rose – Arches True
To Shafts of Light
& Rises To Glory
In The Morning’s Might

A Woman Who Grows
Into A Rose
Revels In Soft Grass
Between Trail – Toes …

… while Reaching For Delights
and Bright Rainbows
She Is Ever GOD’s …
Dewy–Eyed Rose

… Yes, It Was GOD
Who Lovingly Chose
A Woman Like Me
As A Landscape-Rose

& A Woman Who Grows
Into A Godly Rose
In Moonlit-Gardens
Mercy–Miracles … Glows

(‘Till Everybody Knows
… She Is A Rose)
That GOD Looks After
… and Grows

Two Cents Worth

Well I been drinkin' again
And I know it's a sin
But I just can't refuse an old friend
Cause life is gettin' me down
And I been two times around
And there ain't nothing but pain around the bend
I'm not made for the time
I'm born in the wrong century
There's too much craziness here
In twenty-five years I have used all the tears in my eyes
Now this old world is a fright
You know my future ain't bright
And I'd just crawl in a hole if I could
Or maybe live out in space
Or some other far away place
And not come back to this earth till it's good
Oh but I'm dreaming again
I know that I'm here till the end
There's too much craziness here
In twenty-five years I have used all the tears in my eyes
Well you might think that I'm all wrong
The things I say in this song
I really wish I could see it your way
Cause there's a storm rollin' in
And it just might be the end
So I'm praying we'll all get away
Now my cup is running dry
The weight of the world gets me down
There's too much craziness here
In twenty-five years I have used all the tears in my eyes
There's nowhere to turn
So I'll just have to learn not to cry, no more
It's all I can do till we find something new
But I'll get by you know I'll try
In twenty-five years I have used all the tears in my eyes

All things conspire

All things conspire to hold me from you –
even my love,
since that would mask you and unname you
till merely woman and man we live.
All men wear arms against the rebel –
and they are wise,
since the sound world they know and stable
is eaten away by lovers’ eyes.
All things conspire to stand between us –
even you and I,
who still command us, still unjoin us,
and drive us forward till we die.
Not till those fiery ghosts are laid
shall we be one.
Till then, they whet our double blade
and use the turning world for stone.

The Sea-Swallows

THIS FELL when Christmas lights were done,
Red rose leaves will never make wine;
But before the Easter lights begun;
The ways are sair fra’ the Till to the Tyne.

Two lovers sat where the rowan blows
And all the grass is heavy and fine,
By the gathering-place of the sea-swallows
When the wind brings them over Tyne.

Blossom of broom will never make bread,
Red rose leaves will never make wine;
Between her brows she is grown red,
That was full white in the fields by Tyne.

“O what is this thing ye have on,
Show me now, sweet daughter of mine?”
“O father, this is my little son
That I found hid in the sides of Tyne.

“O what will ye give my son to eat,
Red rose leaves will never make wine?”
“Fen-water and adder’s meat,
The ways are sair fra’ the Till to the Tyne.”

“Or what will ye get my son to wear,
Red rose leaves will never make wine?”
“A weed and a web of nettle’s hair,
The ways are sair fra’ the Till to the Tyne.”

“Or what will ye take to line his bed,
Red rose leaves will never make wine?”
“Two black stones at the kirkwall’s head,
The ways are sair fra’ the Till to the Tyne.”

“Or what will ye give my son for land,
Red rose leaves will never make wine?”
“Three girl’s paces of red sand,
The ways are sair fra’ the Till to the Tyne.”

“Or what will ye give me for my son,
Red rose leaves will never make wine?”
“Six times to kiss his young mouth on,
The ways are sair fra’ the Till to the Tyne.”

“But what have ye done with the bearing-bread,
And what have ye made of the washing-wine?
Or where have ye made your bearing-bed,
To bear a son in the sides of Tyne?”

“The bearing-bread is soft and new,
There is no soil in the straining wine:
The bed was made between green and blue,
It stands full soft by the sides of Tyne.

“The fair grass was my bearing-bread,
The well-water my washing-wine;
The low leaves were my bearing-bed,
And that was best in the sides of Tyne.”

“O daughter, if ye have done this thing,
I wot the greater grief is mine;
This was a bitter child-bearing,
When ye were got by the sides of Tyne.

“About the time of sea-swallows
That fly full thick by six and nine,
Ye’ll have my body out of the house,
To bury me by the sides of Tyne.

“Set nine stones by the wall for twain,
Red rose leaves will never make wine;
For the bed I take will measure ten,
The ways are sair fra’ the Till to the Tyne.

“Tread twelve girl’s paces out for three,
Red rose leaves will never make wine;
For the pit I made has taken me,
The ways are sair fra’ the Till to the Tyne.”

Later Tonight

You wait till later
till later tonight
You wait till later, till later
till later tonight
That boy never cast a look in your direction
Never tried to hook for your affection
Dresses like the mod of your invention, tall and proud
He is the head boy of the school of thought
That plays in your intentions, night and day
And you wait till later
till later tonight
You wait till later, till later
till later tonight
And you wait till later
till later tonight
You wait till later, till later
till later tonight
cause tonight always comes

The Mental Travellert

I traveld thro' a Land of Men
A Land of Men and Women too
And heard and saw such dreadful things
As cold Earth wanderers never knew

For there the Babe is born in joy
That was begotten in dire woe
Just as we Reap in joy the fruit
Which we in bitter tears did sow

And if the Babe is born a Boy
He's given to a Woman Old 10
Who nails him down upon a rock
Catches his Shrieks in Cups of gold

She binds iron thorns around his head
She pierces both his hands and feet
She cuts his heart out at his side
To make it feel both cold and heat

Her fingers number every Nerve
Just as a Miser counts his gold
She lives upon his shrieks and cries
And She grows young as he grows old

Till he becomes a bleeding youth
And she becomes a Virgin bright
Then he rends up his Manacles
And binds her down for his delight

He plants himself in all her Nerves
Just as a Husbandman his mould
And She becomes his dwelling place
And Garden fruitful Seventy fold

An aged Shadow soon he fades
Wandring round an Earthly Cot
Full filled all with gems and gold
Which he by industry had got

And these are the gems of the Human Soul
The rubies and pearls of a lovesick eye
The countless gold of the akeing heart
The martyrs groan and the lovers sigh

They are his meat they are his drink
He feeds the Beggar and the Poor
And the way faring Traveller
For ever open is his door

His grief is their eternal joy
They make the roofs and walls to ring
Till from the fire on the hearth
A little Female Babe does spring

And she is all of solid fire
And gems and gold that none his hand
Dares stretch to touch her Baby form
Or wrap her in his swaddling-band

But She comes to the Man she loves
If young or old or rich or poor
They soon drive out the aged Host
A Begger at anothers door

He wanders weeping far away
Untill some other take him in
Oft blind and age-bent sore distrest
Untill he can a Maiden win

And to Allay his freezing Age
The Poor Man takes her in his arms
The Cottage fades before his Sight
The Garden and its lovely Charms

The Guests are scatterd thro' the land
For the Eye altering alters all
The Senses roll themselves in fear
And the flat Earth becomes a Ball

The Stars Sun Moon all shrink away
A desart vast without a bound
And nothing left to eat or drink
And a dark desart all around

The honey of her Infant lips
The bread and wine of her sweet smile
The wild game of her roving Eye
Does him to Infancy beguile

For as he eats and drinks he grows
Younger and younger every day
And on the desart wild they both
Wander in terror & dismay

Like the wild Stag she flees away
Her fear plants many a thicket wild
While he pursues her night and day
By various arts of Love beguild

By various arts of Love and Hate
Till the wide desart planted oer
With Labyrinths of wayward Love
Where roams the Lion Wolf and Boart

Till he becomes a wayward Babet
And she a weeping Woman Oldt
Then many a Lover wanders here
The Sun and Stars are nearer rolld

The trees bring forth sweet Extacy
To all who in the desart roam
Till many a City there is Built
And many a pleasant Shepherds home

But when they find the frowning Babe
Terror strikes thro the region wide
They cry the Babe the Babe is Born
And flee away on Every sidet

For who dare touch the frowning form
His arm is witherd to its root
Lions Boars Wolves all howling flee
And every Tree does shed its fruit

And none can touch that frowning form
Except it be a Woman Old
She nails him down upon the Rock
And all is done as I have told

A Coronal

WITH HIS SONGS AND HER DAYS TO HIS LADY AND TO LOVE

Violets and leaves of vine,
Into a frail, fair wreath
We gather and entwine:
A wreath for Love to wear,
Fragrant as his own breath,
To crown his brow divine,
All day till night is near.
Violets and leaves of vine
We gather and entwine.

Violets and leaves of vine
For Love that lives a day,
We gather and entwine.
All day till Love is dead,
Till eve falls, cold and gray,
These blossoms, yours and mine,
Love wears upon his head,
Violets and leaves of vine
We gather and entwine.

Violets and leaves of vine,
For Love when poor Love dies
We gather and entwine.
This wreath that lives a day
Over his pale, cold eyes,
Kissed shut by Proserpine,
At set of sun we lay:
Violets and leaves of vine
We gather and entwine.

When A Woman Loves A Man

when the stars are in her eyes,
and the sun is in her smile,
the only moment in my life,
that happens the same time,
is when a woman loves a man,
she'd be a mother and our child
sacrifice the days and nights,
and the world
shed put her life in every kiss
when a woman loves a man
and youll be amazed how
when you stumble in,
shell fight for you,
and wont let you give in,
shell do all that she can,
when a woman loves a man
a soothing breeze always blows,
somebody understands another soul,
its like the planet of our lives,
ever since this has arrived
when a woman loves a man
oh youll be amazed how
when you need her there,
shell fight for you,
every minute till the end,
shell do all that she can,
when a woman loves a man,
its the greatest gift of all
hoping that ill convince that i can catch you when you fall
