The Unequal Marriage
EVEN this heavenly pair were unequally match'd when united:
Psyche grew older and wise, Amor remain'd still a child,

Why I Could Care Less' by Lawrence S. Pertillar
I grew up in the projects,
My sister and I.
I was the older...
And expected to be the protector,
Without excuses or alibis.
I had no one older to express my frustrations.
My mother was both my mom and dad then.
And my sister and I were latchkey children!
I grew up with an edge.
A bit of a chip on my shoulder!
I really didn't have a childhood...
I always felt quite older.
And throughout my life...
Witnessing those who whine about petty stuff.
I look back upon my life thanking God,
How I grew up.
I thank God for my parents...
And their struggles to maintain.
My sister Andrea who helped me remain sane!
The Women's League Day Care Center...
With their counselors who guided me on my way.
The residents of Bellevue Square...
To this day I may see a few from those 'golden days'.
And to those who take others for granted.
With demands their selfish whims be met...
If it had not been for them,
And their pointless greed and attitudes...
I probably would not express,
Why I could care less...
About them now being in distress and duress.
My mama taught me a few things about survival...
'What goes up comes down!
Folks who grin and smile...
Will someday show frowns.
Now go outside and try to be a child,
Like the other kids! '

A Plan The Muses Entertained
A PLAN the Muses entertain'd
Methodically to impart
To Psyche the poetic art;
Prosaic-pure her soul remain'd.
No wondrous sounds escaped her lyre
E'en in the fairest Summer night;
But Amor came with glance of fire,--
The lesson soon was learn'd aright.

The New Amor
AMOR, not the child, the youthful lover of Psyche,
Look'd round Olympus one day, boldly, to triumph inured;
There he espied a goddess, the fairest amongst the immortals,--
Venus Urania she,--straight was his passion inflamed.
Even the holy one powerless proved, alas! 'gainst his wooing,--
Tightly embraced in his arm, held her the daring one fast.
Then from their union arose a new, a more beauteous Amor,
Who from his father his wit, grace from his mother derives.
Ever thou'lt find him join'd in the kindly Muses' communion,
And his charm-laden bolt foundeth the love of the arts.

Caught
As a child,
I remember the first time...
Playing hide-and-seek.
Peeking to duck.
That's all I knew to do.
I didn't want to be the one caught.
I thought my hiding places could not be seen.
With a thinking everything I said,
And where I could be would be believed.
I was a child and a child occupied my head.
And I would lie as I hid from others to hide.
But as a child I had no idea,
My attempts to fool and deceive...
Others much older than me already did.
It was as if I had been a plate of unclouded glass.
Hiding.
But everywhere I sought to hide...
Eventually I was caught.
I thought my hiding places could not be seen.
With a thinking everything I said,
And where I could be would be believed.
Until it dawned on me when I got older...
I was no longer a child seeking hiding places sought.
And I grew tired of that as I matured.
Tired I grew...
Of getting caught.

No Se Si Es Amor
es corno amor
Pero no lo s.
Sabe a besos
Mi almohada
Madrugada
Y l no esta.
Solitaria
En mi cama

No lo s.
No s si es amor
Pero lo parece
Todo puede ser...
Con l soy feliz
Pero vivo sin l.
No s si es amor
Pero crece y crece
Tan por dentro de mi
Que se ve a flor de piel.
qu curioso!
Siempre juntos
l con nadie
Yo con l.
Y se me escapa
Entre los dedos
Medio angel medio cruel.
Eso es amor
O no es amor
Yo no lo s.
No s si es amor
Pero lo parece
Y me temo que yo
Estoy loca por l.
No s si es amor
Todo puede ser...
Es algo clido, es algo ntimo.
No s si es amor...

A right pair!
The tired shoes yawned,
They were unable to detach themselves from the feet
The tired feet yawned
Feeling trapped by the shoes and unable to escape
The first signs of agraphobia pressed in
Both were sick of the sight of each other
What a pair!
The hands tapped the table top idly
Refusing to release them,
Too busy composing a first and second draft
Of sonnet in its third sequence
The hands showed 'creative indifference'
The feet and the shoes
Now hot and bothered
Grew smelly and grumpy
Stamping the ground they united forces
Shifting both legs into action
Stamping the ground in fury
Shifting the hands from the writing pad
Until finally the hands released them from each other
'What a pair'! , the hands cried
The feet and the shoes
Sent loving looks to each other
After a particularly tiresome day
They hoped soon to be re united
What a pair!

September Villanelle
SEPTEMBER VILLANELLE
September invokes something special in my ancient country
No 'Fall' here, no amber leaves, upon her crowded earth
Her billion people stand united, share the Indian psyche
Post monsoon, the land is a lush green mostly
Amid her crowded cities, one feels the warmth of her burning hearth
September invokes something special in my ancient country
In this land of a thousand festivals, one stands primary
It's the worship of Lord Ganesha, the elephant God of divine birth
Her billion people stand united, share the Indian psyche
The son of Shiva is worshipped by all with glee
Massive idols of Ganesha smile and spread the mirth
September invokes something special in my ancient country
India has cultures, religions and castes aplenty
Open to all festivals; of a free spirit no dearth
Her billion people stand united, share the Indian psyche
Yet, September brings with it sorrow too, the fall of the towers in NY City
The fallen unite in death the Earth's entire girth
September invokes something special in my ancient country
Her billion people stand united, share the Indian psyche

Te vi en aquel lugar; t no me viste a m
Y no te pregunt qu tu hacas all
No te esperaba ver con un nuevo amor
Y aunque te quiero an no pidas mi perdn
Devulveme el amor que yo te promet
Devulveme mi amor para siempre
No quiero explicacin
No vengas a mentir

No prentendas que te olvide as? no ms
Que tu amor fue mar cuando sedienta
Me arrime a tu puerto a descansar

Schindler
Spielberg's little girl in red
Walking through the ghettos to hide under a bed
Must children suffer man's inhumanity
Every child's face around the world should lead to humanity
The signs of our time in now
Remembering the futile past and how
Every child's heart is a heavenly host
Not a spirit to be slaughtered at a post
A little girl in red slaughtered and hauled away in death's cart
Every child born into this world must live to play their spiritual part
Multicultural endeavors must take a place
Man's inhumanity towards man a true disgrace
Spirituality through cultural understanding every child's face
Hatred through violence will not win the struggle of that child's facial pace
I reach far into my heart when I cry of a child's need
A child must always remain the fruit of our sacred seed
Every child's heart is blessed with the color of red
Facial expressions so bold and sacred
In every child's heart there is God's testament written in gold
Multicultural hearts of God's most heavenly mold.

How Little I Know
When I was young, I knew it all.
The world was simple as I recall.
Things were right or wrong and black or white.
Everything was within my sight.
As I grew older the world changed,
Or maybe my thinking rearranged.
I became less apt to draw quick conclusions,
As I became aware of many confusions.
I learned to listen and think before I spoke.
Then when even older my mind awoke.
It awoke and I understood to my surprise,
Knowing how little I know can be wise.

Hagamos El Amor
Busco en tu piel la tormenta
Y los rayos
El huracan de tu cuerpo
Desbocado Haz el amor conmigo
No es nada malo
Se mezclara lo duice Con lo salado
Hagamos el amor
Tu pasion vergonzosa
Se te escapa De las manos
Yo beso tus caderas calurosas Con mis labios
Haz el amor conmigo
No es nada malo
Ni tu saldras herida Ni yo danado
Si solo con mirarnos
Nos deseamos
Nos comemos con los ojos
Siempre los dos Amandonos
Hagamos el amor
Hagamos el amor
Hagamos el amor

The disaster
In multitude of eyes,
Away from parental views,
With pride given by foes,
Calmly, solely, she rides.
Abyss low, the fort beside,
Her soul wanders and slides.
In cold currents, the bride
Calculates her tides.
In the parental pouch,
Ornaments and riches
Pile up as heaps to catch
For her a better match.
‘Jewels by joy designed
To ravish the sensuous mind’
Lie in vain, fully blind,
Gloss and glamour to end.
Men of her clan, afar,
Stand, trimming collar
And query, ‘Who wins her
Hand to be lucky ever? ’
Yes, while design and plan
For eventual act remain,
The Immanent Will gains
His sport for mortal pain,
With a sinister mate
For her- so gravely great,
A product of alien creed,
Low in breed, not in deed.
As the girl mutely grew
In stature, grace and hue,
Far down below there grew
A lad, earning her love.
Alien in match they seem,
No one could see pair’s aim,
Their blend in tying arms
That drifts them in still stream,
Or, the sign significant
That they are squarely bent
By paths coincident
To slip, anon, intent,
Till ‘the Spinner of the Years’
Nodded. To the bridal cheers,
Chased by parents’ jeers,
Elopement explodes near.
Man sorts; God sports.

United
Look around
They're moving in
Hold your ground
When they begin
We can do it
We can do it and if they wanna they can try
But they'll never get near
Then they can get out of here
Gonna keep on driving
Never stop
United, united, united we stand
United we never shall fall
United, united, united we stand
United we stand one and all
So keep it up
Don't give in
Make a stand
We're gonna win
We can do it
We can do it and if they wanna they can try
But they'll never get near
Then they can get out of here
Gonna keep on driving
Never stop
United, united, united we stand
United we never shall fall
United, united, united we stand
United we stand one and all
So keep it up
United, united, united we stand
United we never shall fall
United, united, united we stand
United we stand one and all
United, united, united we stand
United we never shall fall
United, united, united we stand
United we stand one and all
United, united, united we stand
United we never shall fall
United, united, united we stand
United we stand one and all

When
When?
When did the snowfall
Lose it’s magic?
When did the night sky
Commence to look small?
It was when I grew up…
When did the past
Become so tragic
When did the shadows
Start to fall
It was when I grew older…
When did the sunset
Lose it’s wonder
When did the sunrise
Lose it’s ability to awe
It was when I grew old and jaded…
When did people’s names
Become so hard to remember
When did I lose
The love of September
I think… I think it was when I got older still….
When did I start crying
At the smallest sad thing
When did my memory
Begin to take wing
I think it was….I’m almost sure it was…
But I can’t exactly….remember just
when

Pero hoy que no te tengo
Me doy cuenta que no soy feliz
Y siento el fuego de un amor que hoy
Fuego de un amor que hoy cenizas slo es
