I tell you Courtney what your room is missing is a Black panther

I tell you what your room is missing is a Black panther

We stood at point!
where your kitchenette met your dinning nook.
We did our circus act without a net,
You revealed me your new brazzier with nude lace.
We melted crayons with a hot glue gun,
where you melted my toes, my palm, my neck.
We took our chalk to the street,
You drew upside down crosses on the church wall I drew a pentagram.
We wrote BLACK PANTHERS ALL OVER NEW LONDON!
where the alleyways sucked their bellies in, and the bums vomit.
We ate hummus pizza on the rooftop with shiraz wine,
you asked me if my batteries ever ran out and I threw my shoes over the ledge.
We laid distant while the nighthawks drag raced with the cops!

Doppelganger

Miss Damson
was a doppelganger

for Bette Davis
right down

to the look
and eyes

and swagger
into the classroom

to teach
and it was said

that sometimes
she‘d go into

the cupboard
and have a drag

on a smoke
and if any kid

spoke out of turn
she’d give a stare

to make his or her soul
seemingly burn

but you saw
the way she could bring

silence to a room
when she entered

or bring a shudder
of fear

into the hearts
of the classroom braggers

and when she drew chalk
across the blackboard

it’d set teeth on edge
or threw chalk

or the blackboard wiper
at any kid stupid

or brave enough
to open their mouths

and the way she wrote
upon the board

her back to the class
that firm ass

and with that neat script
her fingers tight

around the chalk
as if around

the throat of any kid
who dared to talk

and you
she’d say

you at the back
you with the dumb look

don’t stare
out of the window

open the darn book
or hey you

girl with the bangs
don’t sit there

with your mouth open
or you’ll catch flies

and there’d be
an underground snigger

from others
or just dumb looks

anywhere
but at Miss Damson

even stuck between
pages of boring books.

black RESPECT

Black shoes,
black suits,
black sandals
black you,
black specs,
black life,
black faces,
black casket dropped deep the dark grave,
Red ribbons,
red lights,
red flowers,
red wine.
Hearse sirens
wailing women,
Black speeches,
Blackened praises, all in all they call it the last respect

The lady in the black lace

The lady in the black lace
~
draped in black lace she slept
her skin soft, pale to the eye
the room dimly lit bathed in silence
a beautiful serenity eclipsed
the portrait laid before the eye
her hair blonde, lay across her shoulder
stark contrast to the red of the chair
upon which she soundly slept
a story unfolded into thought
did she mourn or sleep in peace
would that pale skin be cold to the touch
through the thin black of the fabric
or warm blooded with desire
a passion of the artistry itself
what little light covered the room
cast shadows about her
framing this work of art
this beautiful woman in lace
slept as though at peace

Miracle

The teacher in the Montessori
Miss or Mrs. who knows? she is Rosemary.
lean and timid a girl of quality
smiley face; kind heart and looks very beauty

A pupil his name is Charlie
fat and tall very dandy
boisterous and talkative

One day the teacher asked him to draw an elephant
he went to the black-board and drew an ant
when the teacher asked to draw an ant
he drew an elephant.

Blank Walls

it is time to have blank walls
something to start with
where you are more careful with
what to write and
what to draw

you think twice, thrice
before you start your scribbles for
you once drew a cat
and it didn't work well with the dog
which she drew first

you should have talked to her
so everything that you plan
to put on this blank wall
might as well have harmony

& peace & beauty, like the way
she painted her own blank space
with all black colors, and she gave you
an impression of the darkest night

you tried to put some stars and
a full moon to brighten the darkness
of her thoughts, and perspectives

she did not like it
she was in deep mourning, she was very sad
depressed with what happened
when she was a young girl in their house

she set aside the stars and she told you she hated the moon
and you kept your silence and opted to put there the whispers of
wind and the hush of the sea

again she did not like it
the wind made her vomit and the sea made her very sick till

you finally gave up
with the way the blank wall had been painted
and the manner by which she wanted to take it all to herself
you know what was really proper

you said there is still a blue boat on the blank wall
and it is leaving soon finding a new world..... now sailing on

The Roof

Verse 1
It wasnt raining yet
But it was definitely a little misty on
That warm november night
And my heart was pounding
My inner voice resounding
Begging me to turn away
But I just had to see your face
To feel alive
And then you casually walked in the room
And I was twisted in the web
Of my desire for you
(and I was twisted)
My apprehension blew away
I only wanted you
To taste my sadness
As you kissed me in the dark
Chorus 1
Every time I feel the need
I envision you caressing me
And go back in time
To relieve the splendor of you and i
On the rooftop that rainy night
Verse 2
And so we finished the moet and
Started feeling liberated
And I surrendered as you took me
In your arms
I was so caught up in the moment
I couldnt bear to let you go yet
So I threw caution to the wind
And started listening to my longing heart
And then you softly pressed your lips to mine
And feelings surfaced Id suppressed
For such a long time
(and I was lifted)
And for a while I forgot
The sorrow and the pain
And melted with you as we stood
There in the rain
Chorus 2
Every time I feel the need
I envision you caressing me
And go back in time
To relieve the splendor of you and i
On the rooftop that rainy night
Every time I feel the need
I envision you caressing me
And go back in time
To relieve the splendor of you and i
On the rooftop that rainy night
Bridge
Last night I dreamed that i
Whispered the words I love you
And touched you so very
Subtly as we were kissing goodbye
(pretty baby - how Im missing you)
Chorus 3
Every time I feel the need
I envision you caressing me
(envision you caressing me)
And go back in time
(I go back)
To relieve the splendor of you and i
On the rooftop that rainy night
(on the roof that rainy night)
Chorus 4
Every time I feel the need
(when I feel the need)
I envision you caressing me
(I envision you over and over and over again)
And go back in time
(I go back)
To relieve the splendor of you and i
(it was oh so sweet you and I)
On the rooftop that rainy night
(on that rainy night)
Chorus 5
Every time I feel the need
(last night I had the strangest dream...)
I envision you caressing me
(I was actually quite symbolic)
And go back in time
(as I whispered...that I loved you)
To relieve the splendor of you and i
(...very subtly)
Chorus 6
Every time I feel the need
I envision you caressing me
And go back in time
To relieve the splendor of you and i
On the rooftop that rainy night

The Crazy Man on Drew

the crazy man on Drew
straps a broken bicycle helmet on his head
rides in the rain and the sunshine
and he's old and fat enough to get to get
an attack, but he doesn't
he peddles home in the dark

the crazy man on Drew
walks his dog at midnight
sits on the wall at the hospital
curses at his beagle
cries in the rain

the crazy man on Drew
has a wife and kids
but they have no use for him anymore
unless the flowers they expected that day
didn't arrive
then they call him...
he will listen

the crazy man on Drew
is someone's husband
but that romance has been dead long ago
it shuffles now like a bum
with a grocery cart
looking for cigarette money
in the trash

the crazy man on Drew
goes to church every Sunday
prays to a God
who is all but disinterested in his outcome
the crazy man knows it
but prays all the same

the crazy man on Drew
knows that when he is dead
that his ex by then
will toss out all his books
to Goodwill
he knows it
but what difference will that make
when you are dead, anyhow?

the crazy man on Drew
knows that under the beauty of a rose
is a lot of pricks
and a lot of dim bulbs
make a very bright light
and there in lies
the truth of life after all

the crazy man on Drew
knows he will do something rash one day
hopes like hell
that God will forgive
his friends won't take it hard
his family will forget
and the grave will be silent.

The Magic Of The Moment

She walks down a street
in Central London
on the sunny side of course
and is dumbfounded by the fact

that it is raining on the other side of the street.
It falls into her mind as if it were a dream
but a dream that's real.

She crosses over and holds out her hand.
Raindrops collect on her palm.
She crosses over again and watches them evaporate
on her outstretched hand.

Dancing Shoes

Dancing shoes
On the wall above your bedside
Saw it all as we performed our pirouette
Fleshes fused
As the flicker of the candles
Threw upon the wall a single silhouette
Tu es dans ma coeur et dans ma tete
Dancing shoes
We have loved on distant beaches
Where the winter never reaches
There we fell
Dying swan
On the dawn you danced before me
Though your eyes were dark and stormy
I stood still
Qui peut dire le faux et le reel
Dancing shoes
Though the distances divide us
Theres a paradise inside us
We cant lose
Me and you
Dance a pas de deux
Forever
And I pray you never
Shed your dancing shoes

you build him up and tear him down again
it don't hold a candle hold it to the light
check it out is it wrong or right

it's just a pretty girl

a silent footstep that's all she wrote

no need to worry the baby's gone to bed

5. The Beast

I remember my dad’s big Black Panther
As he kicked it went off with a roar
I remember him saying it’s a strong un
It’s pulling hard asking for more

I remember the sound from a distance
You could tell he was there by the throb
I remember its speed in an instant
From a dot to a great big black blob

I remember him trying to tame it
And the first day he sat on its back
I remember mum looking uneasy
When he said he would just need the knack

I remember the beast being thirsty
Many gallons we all saw it drink
I remember the back of this monster
It gave off a gassy black stink

I remember the awesome black power
Put dad off the road in a dyke
I remember he smiled as he polished
Black Panther one hell of a bike

A Swallow On My Neck

Oh ...
I have been smashed again
With the men from the
Old Valhalla Road Crematorium
Boring men with the same old patter
I am a simple man
Not much to gain or lose
And I don't know why I held out
So long for me and you
Until he drew
A swallow on my neck
And more, I will not say
He drew
A swallow, deep and blue
And soon, everyone knew
Then I was wrecked again
With the men full of bluff and ardour
From a well-known funeral parlour
I am a simple man
Not much to gain or lose
Older and wiser
Never applies to me
And so he drew
A swallow on my neck
And more, I will not say
He drew
A swallow, deep and blue
And soon, everyone knew
Aah ...
Oh ...
You have been telling me
That I have been
Acting childish
Foolish, ghoulish and childish
Oh, I know, I know, I know !
I know, I know, I know
But I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind
Ah ...
I don't mind
Ah

A Little Daughter

She drew
Mother and father
Brother and sister
And a rainbow

She drew
A tree and a root
A stone and a brook
And a rainbow

She drew
A house and a roof
A chimney and a sweeper
And a rainbow

She drew
A path and a step
A sound of a key
And a rainbow

She drew
A table and chairs
A meal and desert
And a rainbow

She drew
A bed and a lullaby
A good night kiss
And a rainbow

She drew
The night and a star
A Moon upon a star
And a rainbow

She drew
Mother and father
Sister and brother
And a rainbow

Downtown Pizza

On Lake Ave. next to the Pelican,
you can have great dishes of Italian.
From pizza’s, subs to Calzones,
they deliver, they bring it to your home.
I have a photo of Razel and Mel,
posing on the counter with a pizza smell.
I have a slice of pizza and a mountain dew,
I watch t.v. and kick off my shoes.
They have signature white pizza with Stromboli meat,
stuffed with lots of cheese, pepperoni, it’s a treat.
Your dog can drink agua outside in a bowl,
while you wait for your order to go.
This is a laid back casual pizza joint,
they make great pizza and Italian dishes,
they won’t disappoint.

Knowing Your House

I don’t care what they say.
Pain is not, will not be a black beauty.
I stood at the edge of a living room
Chair, thinking of all the teachers instead.
Wedged in was the bar in the doorway,
I had to raise my chin and hit it,
But too late, my neck dripped with blood.
Undone,
I was not knowing the game instead,
Houses were weird today.
My mother of all people
Knocked on the entrance-door,
Dripping with raindrops and sweat,
I was a lover of mothers that heal.

A storm was bursting with summer heat,
Building since noon,
The other children had raced in,
Their shoes scratched across the plywood floor,
Placed by the previous owner.

Kissing, beating and cool gloom occurred,
The family mentioned their births,
The family retired to the basement.

Shattered windows, Colors of white

Across the street is a new house with a room painted red, with no holes of white.
Next to me, a house purple, with its color pealing off, with holes of black and white
At the end of the street, an old house once yellow, what now remains white.
The sound of a hammer building a house, entering a place with a color unknown.

On the street,
Windows covered with ice
Some shine with light.
Some broken
Some fixed
Some lost, out of sight.

A house, two blocks from here.
Shines with lights of yellow, red, and green everywhere.
A wall keeping the wind from blowing anywhere.
The house next door, at the dawn of the day.
Paints its room black, and peals the color away.

The wall crumbles.
The wind blows across the colors of yellow, red and green
Breaks all the windows.
Turns the yellow to blue, red to black, and green to white.

The house two blocks away.
Adds a line of yellow red and green everyday.
To allow the house of blue, black and white to shine for us some day.

Lourdes 2006

Jimmy opened his suitcase in the room
at Lourdes and said Oh no there's molasses
all over the clothes and shoes and I've got

a whole week here and he sat down in a chair
his head in his hands saying What have I done?
What am I going to do for clothes now? you

went over and looked in and sure enough
the molasses were over his clothes and shoes.
What am I going to do? he said and you said

Leave it to me Jim I'll sort it and you went through
the clothes taking out the items untouched
by the molasses and set them aside on the bed

and then carried the suitcase of black sticky items
Into the washroom and there one by one you carefully
washed them through with soap and water until

they were clean and smelt of soap and fresh air
and all the while 94 year old Jim sat in a chair
watching with his eyes watery and jaw hung loose

seeing the black water run down the wide plughole
and once it was done you wrung the clothes out
like your mother used to do when you were a kid

and hung them out on the balcony on the small
clothesline and placed the washed out black shoes
by the outside wall to dry out in the hot afternoon

sun and Jimmy came over and stood on the balcony
with one hand on the rail and the other on his stick
looking over at the Pyrenees in the distance and he

said That was real good of you. I owe you big time
and you stood next to him feeling the hot afternoon
sun on your face and arms and felt good and you

said You owe me nothing Jim I just did what some
good guy would and his watery eyes swept over you
matching the French sky's watery afternoon blue.
