Finery

In an elegant frock, trimm'd with beautiful lace,
And hair nicely curl'd, hanging over her face,
Young Fanny went out to the house of a friend,
With a large little party the evening to spend.

"Ah! how they will all be delighted, I guess,
And stare with surprise at my handsome new dress!"
Thus said the vain girl, and her little heart beat,
Impatient the happy young party to meet.

But, alas! they were all too intent on their play
To observe the fine clothes of this lady so gay,
And thus all her trouble quite lost its design;
For they saw she was proud, but forgot she was fine.

'Twas Lucy, though only in simple white clad,
(Nor trimmings, nor laces, nor jewels, she had,)
Whose cheerful good-nature delighted them more
Than Fanny and all the fine garments she wore.

'Tis better to have a sweet smile on one's face,
Than to wear a fine frock with an elegant lace,
For the good-natured girl is loved best in the main,
If her dress is but decent, though ever so plain.

The Vulgar Little Lady

"But, mamma, now, " said Charlotte, "pray, don't you believe
That I'm better than Jenny, my nurse?
Only see my red shoes, and the lace on my sleeve;
Her clothes are a thousand times worse.

"I ride in my coach, and have nothing to do,
And the country folks stare at me so;
And nobody dares to control me but you
Because I'm a lady, you know.

"Then, servants are vulgar, and I am genteel;
So really, 'tis out of the way,
To think that I should not be better a deal
Than maids, and such people as they. "

"Gentility, Charlotte," her mother replied,
"Belongs to no station or place;
And there's nothing so vulgar as folly and pride,
Though dress'd in red slippers and lace.

Not all the fine things that fine ladies possess
Should teach them the poor to despise;
For 'tis in good manners, and not in good dress,
That the truest gentility lies."

Croquet by Moonlight

On a moonlight evening, in the month of May,
A number of young people were playing at croquet,
They mingled together, the bashful with the gay,
And had a pleasant time and chat, while playing at croquet.

CHORUS:

This play they call croquet, croquet,
This play they call croquet,
It is amusement for the young,
This play they call croquet.

On that pleasant evening, the moon shone clear and bright,
And every heart among that crowd was filed with great delight.
It was a merry party, for lady Dell was there
Her merry laugh above the rest was heard by all, so fair.

CHORUS: This play, etc.

She was the belle that evening, admired by great and small,
And all the boys liked to play with the girl and blue ball.
She was a splendid player, so lively and so gay,
For she was skilled in playing that pleasant game croquet.

CHORUS: This play, etc.

Two young men among them, that loved this pretty Dell;
Although I write about them, their names I will not tell.
They were fine young fellows, so bashful, and yet so gay;
They tried to beat the girl that with the blue ball play.

CHORUS: This play, etc.

Ah! with those handsome fellows, Dell thought she'd have some fun,
"The one of you that'll catch me, may see me safely home."
The play began in earnest, between those fine young men,
To catch the girl with the blue ball, was impossible for them.

CHORUS: This play, etc.

She went around the play-ground, so full of life and gay,
She left them at the farther arch, so she beat them at croquet.
It was late that evening, and as I went away,
I know not how they came out, in that pleasant game, croquet.

CHORUS: This play, etc.

So croquet by moonlight is pleasant, as you see,
For business cares were laid aside, in that little company.
So playing at croquet, croquet, so playing at croquet,
It is amusement for the young folks, this play of croquet.

Very Fine Love

(bob dipiero / jim photoglo)
I never knew how good love could be
All Id ever known was make believe
So many times Ive played the fool
Baby, til I met you
Now everything has fallen in place
You can tell by the smile on my face
For every lonely tear that Ive cried
Im that much satisfied
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
You know it when you find one
Shining like a diamond
Its so fine, fine, very fine love
How did I ever live without your love?
Its the only thing Im certain of
No matter what Im going through
I know I can count on you
You are more precious to me every day
Life is better now in every way
You dont have to lay the world at my feet
You have made my world complete
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love, oh, oh
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
You know it when you find one
Shining like a diamond
Its so fine, so fine, very fine love
Ive got no apprehensions
Youve got the best intentions
Weve got a, weve got a, weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
Weve got a fine, fine, very fine love
A very fine
A very fine love
Very fine love, ah, ha, ooh, hoo
So fine, hey, so fine
So good, so good love

All these years

"Mom, how did you mange all these years"
"I am fed up to hear all these to my ears"
"Can't you tell how to overcome? "
My sweet girl cried and asked anything to welcome

I had seen some changes on her beautiful face
She was coming up like anything in this life race
She had seen nothing or heard about hard life
What will she do when enter in somebody's life as wife?

I looked at her tense worry lines
She feared about being sidelined
I was little taken back at her simple question
I thought it is worth here to mention

Girls at young ease are easy target
They will slip into golden dream set
Think of some handsome prince to come and wed
Take her away from parent's home and lead

I knew about the prevalent of such thoughts
They may fall into trap and simply caught
They may sometimes take such hasty decision
And fell short of expectations with no precision

I got nerves of her fears and consoled
Life is not that hard as she has imagined
I made her to understand the two sides of the coin
Life is simple and as easy as journey to join

I gave her of my fine examples
How life was so nice without any troubles
She may do even better when faced with reality
She was class of her own with fine quality

This worked like magic and she was again cheerful
Hr doubts were removed and she looked even beautiful
Now she had everything including built up confidence
Ready to face any eventuality including the challenge

Manners

For a Child of 1918

My grandfather said to me
as we sat on the wagon seat,
"Be sure to remember to always
speak to everyone you meet."

We met a stranger on foot.
My grandfather's whip tapped his hat.
"Good day, sir. Good day. A fine day."
And I said it and bowed where I sat.

Then we overtook a boy we knew
with his big pet crow on his shoulder.
"Always offer everyone a ride;
don't forget that when you get older,"

my grandfather said. So Willy
climbed up with us, but the crow
gave a "Caw!" and flew off. I was worried.
How would he know where to go?

But he flew a little way at a time
from fence post to fence post, ahead;
and when Willy whistled he answered.
"A fine bird," my grandfather said,

"and he's well brought up. See, he answers
nicely when he's spoken to.
Man or beast, that's good manners.
Be sure that you both always do."

When automobiles went by,
the dust hid the people's faces,
but we shouted "Good day! Good day!
Fine day!" at the top of our voices.

When we came to Hustler Hill,
he said that the mare was tired,
so we all got down and walked,
as our good manners required.

Sophia’s Fool’s-Cap

SOPHIA was a little child,
Obliging, good, and very mild,
Yet lest of dress she should be vain,
Mamma still dress'd her well, but plain.
Her parents, sensible and kind,
Wish'd only to adorn her mind;
No other dress, when good, had she,
But useful, neat simplicity.

Though seldom, yet when she was rude,
Or ever in a naughty mood,
Her punishment was this disgrace,
A large fine cap, adorn'd with lace,
With feathers and with ribbons too;
The work was neat, the fashion new,
Yet, as a fool's-cap was its name,
She dreaded much to wear the same.

A lady, fashionably gay,
Did to mamma a visit pay:
Sophia stared, then whisp'ring said,
'Why, dear mamma, look at her head!
To be so tall and wicked too,
The strangest thing I ever knew:
What naughty tricks, pray, has she done,
That they have put that fool's-cap on? '

The Ruined Maid

"O 'Melia, my dear, this does everything crown!
Who could have supposed I should meet you in Town?
And whence such fair garments, such prosperi-ty?"-
"O didn't you know I'd been ruined?" said she.

-"You left us in tatters, without shoes or socks,
Tired of digging potatoes, and spudding up docks;
And now you've gay bracelets and bright feathers three!"-
"Yes: that's how we dress when we're ruined," said she.

-"At home in the barton you said 'thee' and 'thou,'
And 'thik oon' and 'theäs oon' and 't'other'; but now
Your talking quite fits 'ee for high compan-ny!"-
"Some polish is gained with one's ruin," said she.

-"Your hands were like paws then, you face blue and bleak
But now I'm bewitched by your delicate cheek,
And your little gloves fit as on any la-dy!"-
"We never do work when we're ruined," said she.

-"You used to call home-life a hag-ridden dream,
And you'd sigh, and you'd sock; but at present you seem
To know not of megrims or melancho-ly!"-
"True. One's pretty lively when ruined," said she.

-"I wish I had feathers, a fine sweeping gown,
And a delicate face, and could strut about Town"-
"My dear - raw country girl, such as you be,

Cannot quite expect that. You ain't ruined," said she.

Fly Girl

Well, it's almost nightfall
And there's no forecast of rainfall
And i'm in the mood for a party
So i'm gonna go out to a club
And give the dancefloor body
So i jump in the car and go to the venue
Walk in the door and now i'm on the menu
Guys in the house, they're wacthing me
They're clocking me, there's no stopping me
(refrain)
(desire) i know you want me
(you're fine) thank you
But i'm not the type of girl that you think i am
I don't jump into the arms of every man
(but i'm paid) i don't need your money
(i love you) you must be mad
Easy lover is something that i ain't
Besides, i don't know you from a can of paint
Tell me why is it when i walk past the guys
I always hear, yo, baby?
I mean like what's the big idea?
I'm a queen, nuff respect
Treat me like a lady
And, no, my name ain't yo and i ain't got your baby
I'm looking for a guy who's sincere
One with class and savoir faire
I'm looking for someone who has to be
Perfect for the queen latifah me
(fly girl, fly girl)
(come here, cuz you're sexy and you're fine)
(and i want you to be mine)
(fly girl, fly girl)
(have no fear, your heart is in good hands)
(won't you let me be your man?)
All my friends are in relationships
Some of then good ones and some of them bad ones
Some of the bad ones took a turn for the better
And some of the good ones ended up sad ones
You see? loving, it ain't hard to get
I want a friend not just a lover
Someone who is dedicated only to me
Not to me and two or three others
One who will not lie to me or think
He can get my love by buying me
I know i'll find him some day
And when i find him
He sure won't say
(repeat refrain)
(fly girl, fly girl
(come here, cuz you're sexy and you're fine)
(and i want you to be mine)
(fly girl, fly girl, have no fear)
(have no fear, your heart is in good hands)
(won't you let me be your man?)
Lounging, sitting in the house
And i'm cooling, first day of the week
So there's nothing to do
And i'm in the mood for a real soft kiss
Momma never said there'll be days like this
So i called her and we talked for a while
Hang up the phone feeling better
With a smile
It's cool, cuz 91 is my year
And this time i know im gonna hear
(fly girl, fly girl, come here)
(come here, cuz you're sexy and you're fine)
(and i want you to be mine)
(fly girl, fly girl)
(have no fear, your heart is in good hands)
(won't you let me be your man?)
(repeat refrain)

The Wooden Doll And The Wax Doll

THERE were two friends, a very charming pair,
Brunette the brown, and Blanchidine the fair;
And she to love Brunette did constantly incline,
Nor less did Brunette love sweet Blanchidine.
Brunette in dress was neat, yet always plain;
But Blanchidine of finery was vain.
Now Blanchidine a new acquaintance made–
A little girl most sumptuously array'd,
In plumes and ribbons, gaudy to behold,
And India frock, with spots of shining gold.
Said Blanchidine, 'A girl so richly dress'd,
Should surely be by every one caress'd.
To play with me, if she will condescend,
Henceforth 'tis she alone shall be my friend. '
And so for this new friend in silks adorn'd,
Her poor Brunette was slighted, left, and scorn'd.
Of Blanchidine's vast stock of pretty toys,
A wooden doll her every thought employs,
Its neck so white, so smooth, its cheeks so red–
She kiss'd, she fondled, and she took to bed.
Mamma now brought her home a doll of wax,
Its hair in ringlets white, and soft as flax;
Its eyes could open and its eyes could shut;
And on it, too, with taste its clothes were put.
'My dear wax doll!' sweet Blanchidine would cry–
Her doll of wood was thrown neglected by.
One summer's day, 'twas in the month of June,
The sun blazed out all in the heat of noon:
'My waxen doll,' she cried, 'my dear, my charmer!
What, are you cold? but you shall soon be warmer.'
She laid it in the sun–misfortune dire!
The wax ran down as if before the fire!
Each beauteous feature quickly disappear'd,
And melting, left a blank all soil'd and smear'd.
Her doll disfigured, she beheld amazed,
And thus express'd her sorrow as she gazed:
'Is it for you my heart I have estranged
From that I fondly loved, which has not changed?
Just so may change my new acquaintance fine,
For whom I left Brunette, that friend of mine.
No more by outside show will I be lured;
Of such capricious whims I think I'm cured:
To plain old friends my heart shall still be true,
Nor change for every face because 'tis new. '
Her slighted wooden doll resumed its charms,
And wronged Brunette she clasp'd within her arms.

Brandy

There's a port on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
And talk about their homes
And there's a girl in this harbor town
And she works layin' whiskey down
They say "Brandy, fetch another round"
She serves them whiskey and wine
The sailors say "Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea"
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)
Brandy wears a braided chain
Made of finest silver from the North of Spain
A locket that bears the name
Of the man that Brandy loves
He came on a summer's day
Bringin' gifts from far away
But he made it clear he couldn't stay
No harbor was his home
The sailor said " Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea"
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)
Yeah, Brandy used to watch his eyes
When he told his sailor stories
She could feel the ocean foam rise
She saw its ragin' glory
But he had always told the truth, lord, he was an honest man
And Brandy does her best to understand
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)
At night when the bars close down
Brandy walks through a silent town
And loves a man who's not around
She still can hear him say
She hears him say " Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my lover, my lady is the sea"
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)
"Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)

Kinda Girls We Like

Oooooooooh. ooooooooooooh. oooooooooooh. oooooooooooh.
Oooooooooh. ooooooooooooh. oooooooooooh. oooooooooooh.
Oooooooooh. ooooooooooooh. oooooooooooh. oooooooooooh.
We came out before.
Now were back again.
Singin the kinda girls we like
Now is this the end
Were about to blast off
So hold on real tight.
While michael tells you
The kinda girl he likes.
Hey, I like a girl who likes to tease
Not the kinda girl whos always there to please
The kinda girl who makes up her mind
When she ...(I never knew this part)...her given time.
The kinda girl whom you always think about.
Thats the kinda girl whom you cant be without.
Im michael b. thats the girl for me.
Shes the only girl I could never leave.
Youve heard one description
Now listen to this.
Because this one for sure
You cant afford to miss.
So turn up the volume
And open your ears.
Because this next description
Is for you my dear.
Well, my friends call me flash b (is that right)
And heres the kinda girl thats just for me.
I like a girl that is right on time.
Shes also sweet and shes oh so fine.
I like a nice young lady with beautiful hair
So if you want to be with bob you gotta care
She give me her love.
She give me her time.
This kinda girl is mine all mine.
Youve heard two descriptions
Now here comes the third.
And its flyer (is that a word? from the word: fly :-) havent heard that one in a long time) than anything
That youve ever heard.
We love all you girls without any doubt.
And as long as you know this,
Yyou wont feel left out.
I like a nice young lady with class and style
And when Im with her she makes it worth my while.
You know that...(what? )..has to be
Just the right girl for ricky.
I like a nice young lady who likes to have fun
So if you fit this description
I said, hey girl, dont hesitate.
If you want me, Ill be your playmate.
Im ronnie d and Id love to meet.
A girl that would knock me off my feet.
A girl thats fine and divine.
A girl that wants to be all mine.
A girl that can grant my every wish
Is the girl I want to love and cherish.
I promise you that if you are true.
Tell me girl if it could be you.
Youve heard the last.
Were running out of time.
But wait just a minute theres one last line.
Now listen to this
And keep that in mind.
And were sure that this next rap
Will blow your mind.
Yes, I like a girl that will stay with me.
A girl thats a pretty sight to see.
A girl with style and much finesse.
A girl thats smart and wants the best.
I like a girl with a pretty smile.
A girl that stands out in a pile.
But most of all on top of all above.
Ralph needs a girl that he can love.
We came out before.
Now were back again.
Singin the kinda girls we like
Now is this the end
Now Im sure youll agree
Our deep words are divine.
But if you fit the description ,
Youll do just fine fine fine fine fine fine

A Love So Fine

(paradise by the sea)
Well theres sparklin angels on your fire-escape tonight
They line them up for you trying to keep you safe
But with them fire alley burglars on a midnight vamp
You lost your heart on main street to a beautiful tramp
Thats all right, I dont mind
'cause I got (you got) a love so fine
A love so fine, me and my baby
A love so fine, me and my baby
A love so fine
The rats traps are filled with soul crusaders
Everybodys popping and hopping and jumping
At little melvin and the invaders
Youre out on the floor and you cant get up
Your babys out there dancing and struttin that continental strut
She looks so good, she looks so fine (she blows your mind)
Oh we (you) got a love so fine
A love so fine
A love so fine
A love so fine
Everybodys reeling when the band hits the ceiling
Dont you know you just wanna go
The boys start (joint gets) rockin, your knees start knockin
Everybody party, go
Lets go
The bars closed down (its 3 oclock and the bars closed)
You walk to the shady side of town all alone (well you walk along with your)
Papas screaming at you, he wants some cash (baby to the dirty side of town)
Mamas chewing you (me) off about hanging out with (alley) trash
Thats all right, oh you dont mind

A love so fine

Mean Girl

Im in love with mean girl
Im in love
Bum luck will you ever know
Im not in love with you
A nice girl flown around in pretty girl limbo
Im not in love with you
Not a mean bone in her body I said
Im not in love with you
I love her like a bullet to the back of the head
Im not in love with you
Im in love with mean girl
Im in love with you
Im in love with
Im in love with mean girl
Im in love with you
Im in love
Lookin' like a school girl dressed to kill
Im not in love with you
A pretty girl dress would make a mean girl ill
Im not in love with you
Like Jon Bonham locked to a doctor beat
Im not in love with you
I need a mean girl to knock me off my feet
Im not in love with you
Im in love with mean girl
Im in love with you
Im in love with
Im in love with mean girl
Im in love with you
Im in love
I just want mean girl to be nasty and fine
You just want mean girl to be nasty and mine
So what you say
I just want mean girl to be nasty and fine
You just want mean girl to be nasty and mine
1 2 3 4
I just want mean girl to be nasty and fine

Doin' Fine

Don't feel bad,don't feel good,
Feel alright 'cos i'm doing as i should,
Don't look back,no i don't have the time,
I guess i'm doing fine.
Got no bags to slow me down,
Travelling light but my feet are on the ground,
Got no message,i ain't got a dime,
I guess i'm doing fine.
Don't need no paper telling me bad news,
No politician giving their views,
Don't need no doctor to tell me i'm well,
I feel like heaven and i've been through hell.
Talking straight i don't feel confused,
Don't want nothing,i've got nothing more to lose,
Don't need no credit, don't show me where to sign,
I guess i'm doing fine.
I guess i'm doing fine.
I guess i'm doing fine.
Don't come looking for me,
'cos i'm doing fine,
No missing persons,
'cos i'm doing fine,
Don't go home,
'cos i'm doing fine.

I don't know. she's so fine blow your mind
shes the cutest girl I ever seen!
cutest girl I ever seen!
Is it her smile?
Is it her clothes?
Is it her style?
I don't know. she's so fine blow your mind
she's the cutest girl I ever seen!

Automatic Relationship

There is something missing or
The way is wrong
How can the life define?
Having with a sentence in few words

You ask "how are you"
I say "I am fine"
When I say as that
Why I become uneasy

I want to utter more than fine
I don't know you have time
Tone and rhythm of yours and mine
Differently together which are going

Not to carry on further more
Your question expects a result no
Knowing of the moment so
We both pretend to our soul core

"How are you" the question
"I am fine" the intention
If the reality so far mention
May you join with me again?
