Papyrus

Stripped, hammered, pressed the purposeful papyrus
Unaware of herself a would be goddess..
Saraswathi of this country
Moulded in forms of paper artistry
Formed of holy codices
Seated respectfully on Navarathri pooja
But
God's unaware of Satan slipped in
Denuding Saraswathi
Stripping out all Her holiness
Cunningly to be reported of dark prints
Yet Saraswathi grabs a grip of peace
Grappling with the betwixt white
Of the newspaper

Domestic Shades 5

And
Theft has many styles
It leaps in the dark of dawn
Leaping over the fence for flowers
Tweaking with a handy hook-stick
Sometimes standing on a bicycle-seat too
Unhesitating house to house on a daily routine
And
On a query caught at times
Surrendered is God for flowers
I release God from my heart to grant verdict
For discovery of truth in yester-times
Even bhakta Ramdas was jailed
Why not today?

God is away while investigating
Goddess, busy declaring a sample deluge..
Quakes, volcanoes, cyclone tsunami, floods;
And masacre of wars, decoity, booty, loot,
Scandal, corruption, rape e.t.c, e.t.c
From inlaws to inland and international laws, loss
Printed black illustriously
Horrified paper-boy hurls the newspaper
A country wherein knowledge, so paper, books are 'Saraswathi'..
I pick up and plead 'why can't a good goddess be'?
And these days..
A divine floret (Bhakti Malar) supplements so the news-paper

Just For You, Dearest, KAAVYA

Lord Brahma's great day rang,
With music in his heart, he sang;
His bubbling spirits soaring high,
With Saraswathi to him nigh.

All set for His work-with elation,
He sat for His vocation-creation—
He wanted His best revelation
To the world of this generation.

Brahma was in a very jubilant mood
And wanted to mould one—very good
He took the utmost care,
To chisel a form, very fair.

There emerged a beauteous mien,
With all the glory that had e'er been;
A ravishing beauty, very rare,
With a hallow of soft curly hair.

Saraswathi from her side
Bestowed intelligence in her to abide.
It was KAAVYA my grand-daughter, darling,
With beauty and brains e'er merging.

To-day is her birth-day,
Her very special lovely day;
May the Almighty on her ever shower
Blessings for all her dreams to flower!

Many many, Many many………
Happy returns of the day, my dearest!

Goddess Saraswathi

White Herself clad in silvery white
White Herself on a river spiritual white
White Herself mounted on a lily white
White Herself consorted with a swan white
Spotless Saraswathi Her divine might
Denudes mind murky its whimsy thought
Revives nous Her sacral delight
Mood of peace inherited heartful freight
She dwelling mindful like She in vedic elite

Trusts each a human in providential tryst
Tranquil strokes bestows Her harmonious lute
Deepest diligence one does perpetuate
Her pristine rosary, codex and water-pot
Impregnate with science, art and all else about
Effulgence Hers does when alight
Unblemished sans literary fright
Each word of a quite poet
Submitted honest unto Her lotus feet
Right thought, right deed rightly in due result
A weaponless Goddess She of an ineffable rapport

127.Kumaragurupara Swamigal’s Sakalakalavalli Maalai-Stanza 1

Tamil Transliteration

Venthamaraik kandri ninpadhandh thaangaven vellaiyullath
Thandaa maraikkuth thagadhukoloa? Saka mezhumalith
Thunda nurangha ozhiththaan piththagavunn daakkum vannam
Kandaan suvaikoll karumbae sakala kalavalliyae!

Translation poem

The preserver empowered to protect the seven worlds
Who tasted the seven worlds-
Meditating absorbed in deep contemplation
Siva the destroyer entrusted with destruction
Becoming a handicap mentally
Only Brahma the creator of all
Discharging the duty enjoined!
Hey sugarcane! Hey Mother of arts science and education!
Is it that the white lotus alone eligible
to hold those graceful feet?
Isn’t my breezy aspiring heart pleasant ever
-not eligible to have that honour?

Message:

We should have the impression of Mother Saraswathi, Goddess of Education in our heart; if this is done then we will perform noble missions tirelessly.

Explanation:

In Hindu mythology Almighty is personified as males and females;

It is universal fact that a male is useless without a female behind- mother, sister, wife, friend – any form

In this stanza Siva and Vishnu are reported as non-performers whereas Brahma only is shown as doing His designated work perfectly

The hidden meaning of the above is as follows:

Siva’s consort is my Mother Parvathi, representing valor.

Vishnu’s wife is my Mother Lakshmi, representing Wealth.

Brahma’ wife is my Mother Saraswathi, representing education.

Kumaraguruparar says that those who have valor and wealth do not perform well whereas who are good in education are always the winners.

Vishnu: in His incarnation as Krishna ate earth(sand) and when His foster mother asked Him to open His mouth He opened His mouth showing the seven worlds.

Siva: Sundarar called Siva as “ piththan” (mad man) when Siva claimed that Sundarar was His slave.

Festival Navarathri

Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswathi
Decked up glittering with litanies
Dining
On the top of nine steps
With their friendly celestials down
Respectively
Accompanying a band of humans
And super-humans, flora and fauna
Environmentally resourceful
Of hill, river, park, play-ground
Amazingly even a city
Neat like the old of new excavation
At a concert of music
Braided long with Jasmine
Draped with silk skirt and saree
Bejewelled
Over a feast of 'Sundal' varieties
Blessing by turn of three each
In nine days
Partying on the tenth, the 'weapon-day'
Over the victorious demon-slaughter
Goddess Mahishasuramarthini ventured

Devi Annapoorani

Franchised the godly three
The providential toy-factory
Plays ever through myths

Conceited high about their bureaucracy
Creating, protecting, recycling by their spirit alone
Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva thrashing

Power Goddess withdrew in anger
Goddess Shakti broke Her propriety
And power off; Toys of creation on cessation

Dark without Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswathi
Strength, food, knowledge became the absentees
Functionless gods triad agnised Shakti's supremity

Surrendered, thence food for soul to the triad
As well for the whole providential production
Kasi Lordess perpetually offering

Praise, salute Annapoorani
Annapoorani on shakti-peetah at Varanasi
Her clement poise of mercy
Ladling food -an endless potful majesty
Of soul and stomach who ever be hungry
Conceive of Annapoorani to hurry
Her eloquent smile to wipe out any worry

123.Kumaragurupara Swamigal’s Sakalakalavalli Maalai-Stanza 5

Stanza 5

Tamil Transliteration:

Panchap pidhantharu seiyaporr paapang kaerugamenn
Nennjath thadaththala raadhadhennae nedunth that kamalth
Thanjath thuvasa muyarththoansenn naavu magamumvellaikk
Kanjath thavisoth thirundhdhaai sakala kalaavalliyae!

Translation Poem

Occupying Brahman’s red tongue,
Who is holding high, the flag of
Swan white, with long legs red complexion
beating the red colour of lotus into oblivion
and also occupying His great heart
and seated on the white lotus flower
in a beautiful sitting posture
Hey Mother! White swan!
Master of all arts and science!
Wont you make Your soft golden red lotus feet
decorated with the red mehandi
blossom in my heart?

Message:

Focused attention on Art and education and technical acumen are signs of progress

Red Message:

In the ordinary world Red is a danger mark; in mythology red is considered a symbol of victory and ladies wearing red are respected and loved

According to Henry Dreyfus,

1) it is popularly felt that red, the color of blood and fire, represents life and vitality. Red also signifies the color of the sun: a symbol of energy, radiating its vitalizing life force into human beings. Red is also looked upon as a sensual color, and can be associated with man's most profound urges and impulses.
2) red and white together immediately signifies happiness and celebration. The combination of red and white in the decorative ornaments used on wedding or engagement presents has a compelling quality that suggests man's urge to create a bond between his own life and that of the gods. Red and white are also the colors of the uniforms that shrine maidens’ wear (denoting these colors divine nature.)

Here in our stanza we have white swan with red legs, his flag is white, the seat of my Mother Saraswathi is white, her feet are red

A swan is a bird that is a symbol of gracefulness and calmness. Swans are graceful as they float atop the water in ponds, and they are calm creatures. Swans also symbolize sensitivity, love, and beauty. Because it has domain over water as well as air, the swan is considered to be the Bird of Light and is associated with the dawning of the Sun

birds often symbolize the divine. They are often viewed as gods in disguise, or else they are the vehicles of gods and goddesses.
While the peacock is a symbol of material manifestation, the swan stands for the ethereal. It represents the presence of divine inspiration in our world.
Note: in the previous stanza my mother Saraswathi is compared to Peacock and here Swan

This combination signifies the love of the poet for my divine Mother

On Raja Ravivarma's Saraswathi

Positing whirls of peacefulness She's posing
Rejoicing a peacock in stream of bliss melodizing
Attired, ornate and serene Her lumining complacence
Wholly of her all-knowingness is enthroned cosmic
Denuded is my mind alone of my shameful nescience
Awaiting attired of Her gorgeous blessings enlightening
I'm in captivity with Saraswathi's intense luminosity
In captivity with Her congruous Veena-Gaana-compatibility

Watch, Vision of my pointed musing keeps open its eyes
Alert ears too await from Saraswathi the logos
Trudging is soul alone on a vented divine hunt
In silent hush inert everything around me a while..
Yet in a moment's wink seems caught Her seemliness
There, Subramanya Bharathi at Her threshold
In praise of Her aesthetic done how..
In praise of the artist how and how..

Renders then his melodic verses poet Bharathi..

*'Moon's corona created God-To rave about
Indeed created the 'Jataka bird'-Made the 'Ambrosia'
Indeed lined up Devas to crave for-Indeed
For Indran's excellence made the white elephant

*All in flower, sky, woman, in their looks
Created the Lord beateous countenance
For esteemed Ravivarma famous worldwide
His cognitive eye immesurable to comprehend all

*A king's palace and a poorman's hut
His touches of finesse bring in cheers
Master-painter of the bestest paintings
Enough of earthly fame gone heavenward this day?

*To Ramba, Urvasi like dancers heavenly all-
O'adept artist great, to equate yours with the real
Wished and gone to the empyrean world?
Beaten the Rambas by your mastery, know it ascertained'....

My heart is now overwhelming
Pleased with the pleasance-
An artist, an aesthetic, a poet-Godliness

*- Translation of Subramanya Bharathi's song on Raja Ravi Varma's demise
Bharathiar's vaazhthupaattu- 'Chandiranoliai Eesan padaithathu....'

Angels Unaware

Words & music: michael w. smith & wayne kirkpatrick
Maybe there's a light in my soul
Maybe it flickers like a neon sign outside an abandoned hotel
Maybe there are things you just can't know
But can you say there are no mysteries in the house you choose to dwell
Maybe we are entertaining angels unaware
Maybe there's a place where we will fly
But some say god is dead like nietzsche said and faith has made me a fool
But maybe there is more than meets the eye
Who's that stranger there beside you? don't be smug and don't be cruel
Maybe we are entertaining angels unaware
Battles of the heart and of the mind
We stay caught in mental purgatory 'til our existence can be defined
Meanwhile on the shores of parallel
There may be a holy conference held somewhere discussing all mankind
Maybe we are entertaining angels unaware
I say maybe we are entertaining angels unaware
Angels unaware
Soaring, somewhere, longing, reaching
Searching, knowing, loving, caring
Let me take you by the hand
Lead you to the promised land
And trust him with your heart
He'll lead you home

Show-Piece

Behold! knees curled up to his chin
Head down, his empty bowl shaken
Fatigued and languished with weary mind
On penniless status for his bread...
Pity, even unaware of somebody playing upon

Poor beggar, a pose of hapless repose
An act of begging on loss
But an utility for a sculptor behind
The chisel shaping up poverty well formed
Benefitted is the sculptor in bucks

Soiled emotions to the beggar glue
His concaved belly nothing to pursue
Unnoticeably trespassed the sculptor to crop
A faint sitting target artistically on whop
Sold off by re-makes, the sculptor's ooh!

In a rich man's house seated respectfully
Is the pauper carved carefully
Out of a heavy stone looking meaningfully
With unshaken bowl for pennies hopefully!

Unaware. Of What?

When does a redundancy become useless to repeat?
When does something so obvious,
Lose its effectiveness to be admitted?
Why do people wait until the latest statistics are reported?
To then declare themselves unaware.
Of what?

The following behind a slow moving dump truck?

When does a redundancy become useless to repeat?
When does something so obvious,
Lose its effectiveness to be admitted?
Why do people wait until the latest statistics are reported?
To then declare themselves unaware.

A Lone Wolf Sits

A lone wolf sits on a hill
Her black eyes gaze
A prize unaware
Somewhere below
The pack circles

Unaware of her dilemma
She has strayed
Against her mother’s wishes
She continues to play
With the wrong crowd

The lone wolf howls
The pack pounces
Their teeth are set
The scene is repeated
Until one by one

The girls are all seated
The fire crackles
As the moon rises
They circle and howl
And seek their next prey

Devi Bhagavathi-Chottanikara

Times and times
In the dense thickets of human psyche
Thee weed out the skunky deportment
And Thou art dual in one Devi
The holy exorcist, the holy bestower
Kaali and Durga in Thou split persona
There and then
In supreme elixir of benediction
Thou art tri-faceted too
Preaching Saraswathi, protecting Lakshmi
Blissful Durgamma
There and then
Manifested Thyself of laterite Bhagavathi
Four armed wielding discus and conch
Blessing with plentiful boons in Melkavu
All facets into one of Rajarajeshwari
To awaken decoit Kannappan
Cow-guised Thine play to remain
Lakshmi and Narayana idolised
There and then
All causal by sage Bilvamangala
BadraKali, Thou be then fierce
In Kizhkavu fed of evil's blood
On shrieks and hoots exorcised
Driven nailed the spirits into a jack tree
There and then
Thine sister Mookambika jaunts
On routine to spectate
The jamboree of Thine children
'Amme Narayana, Lakshmi Narayana, Badre Narayana'
Such is Thine muchness..hail to Thee Bhagavathi

Hammered!
Hammered, harm, ham, hammer, me, dam, read;
So unique!
So lovely,
So nice,
Much attractive;
But, joyful with the peace of your mind.

Hammered!
The pollution,
Of the population,
The nature of things with the people;
Hammered, mean, near, dear, hear, era, ear, are, hard! !
But, it is just a matter of time.

Hammered!
Comments,
Bombardments,
Of the Red Planet;
Hammered, am, arm, dare, hare, mad, red, heard, had;
And like the muse of the Blue Planet.

Only One Spirit To Follow

Peace, says the young Believer, while there is no peace in his heart,
And when he's in a throng of True Believers, he only wants to depart.

If you're walking with The Lord, peace and joy will fill your heart,
But Satan attacks a half-hearted Christian and tears his peace apart.

Satan like a hungry lion, stalks Christians who question why believe,
He fills them with questions and doubts as he continues to deceive.

God sends only one Spirit that will fill you with security and peace,
But Satan uses many spirits to fill you with uncertainty and deceit.

God starts by sending The Holy Spirit to lead one to truly believe,
Satan follows to snatch The Truth with taunting spirits to deceive.

God then sends The Holy Spirit with submission to help you to abide,
Satan quickly whispers independence, to begin filling you with pride.

God sends The Holy Spirit with contentment to say I know your need,
Satan quickly sows some discontentment to fill your heart with greed.

God sends The Holy Spirit with gentleness to show you how to be meek,
Satan quickly lies and says The Truth will simply make you look weak.

Satan turns you from The Lord to fill you with the world's mystique.
This deception will continue until its The Lord you desire to seek,

God sent His Son Jesus to fill you with peace throughout your days,
But my dear friend a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways,

The Anvil

England's on the anvil--hear the hammers ring--
Clanging from the Severn to the Tyne!
Never was a blacksmith like our Norman King--
England's being hammered, hammered, hammered into line!

England's on the anvil! Heavy are the blows!
(But the work will be a marvel when it's done.)
Little bits of Kingdoms cannot stand against their foes.
England's being hammered hammered, hammered into one!

There shall be one people--it shall serve one Lord--
(Neither Prist nor Baron shall escape!)
It shall have one speech and law, soul and strength and sword.
England's being hammered, hammered, hammered into

The Mountain and the Wind

The mountain stands
The wind plays with her
Leaving her treetops in disarray
The wind moves on, unaware
Of the rustling gossips
Of him and her.

The mountain stands
The wind serenades her
A sighing song among the leaves
The wind moves on, unaware
Of the thousand songs he gave
Echoing in the bamboo grove of her heart.

The mountain stands
The wind dances around her
A waltz, a tango one eventide
The wind moves on, unaware
Of the face he left behind
Carved forever in her heart.

Opens the hood of darkness
To rest in esteemed effulgence
Of radiant Rishyasringa's austere piousness..

Grace of Devi to heal
My nescience to feel

Captures an event to reveal
Mercy of enmity nature to deal
A frog, a cobra in friendship so genteel..

Needless elsewhere but at Sringa-Giri
Beauteous Sharada to vest in lustrous Devi
Wholly golden in sandalwood jamboree
Aromatic cadence of Gayatri, Savitri, Saraswathi
Dwelling in Her codex of cognizant extremity
Soused in Her nectar Her rosary
Accounts Her parrot in vedic ecstasy
Posited on SriChakra majestic is benefic Sharada Devi..
