Henry David Thoreau

Prayer

Great God, I ask for no meaner pelf
Than that I may not disappoint myself,
That in my action I may soar as high
As I can now discern with this clear eye.
And next in value, which thy kindness lends,
That I may greatly disappoint my friends,
Howe'er they think or hope that it may be,
They may not dream how thou'st distinguished me.

That my weak hand may equal my firm faith
And my life practice what my tongue saith
That my low conduct may not show
Nor my relenting lines
That I thy purpose did not know
Or overrated thy designs.

Your Faith Soul Can Sow Hope

it is sad to see our friends
disappointed depressed
even to hear or online read
'i am fine but lil depressed'

this world can will oft disappoint
for many age gender race reasons
but your faith soul can give hope
I always believe in your kindness

every act of kindness
no matter how small
is true service to God
all hate serves Satan

therefore choose wisely
what seeds will you sow?
God said love covers a
multitude of sin love sow

The World Does Not Need My Poem

The world does not need my poem
Soon it will not need me-
A few people need me,
They will need me when I am not here-
I will disappoint them by not being here-
It is the last thing in the world I want to do
To disappoint the few who really matter-
But what to do?

I am just another human being
Another mortal on this earth
It is not given to me,
What is not given to anyone else
Even though I so much want it.

When I Miss You, Sweetheart, I Try Not to Feel Dejected

When friends disappoint you,
Remember you have undoubtedly
Disappointed your friends;

When lovers betray you,
Know for certain, your heart
Has not always been faithful;

In this life, as humans,
We often suffer psychic wounds
That feel like walking death
And undeniable despair;

We have to assume,
We will venture again
Out into the sunlight
And discover our higher purpose
And greater happiness.

“Finalist”… what NEXT?

This is the time we’ve all waited for
Now it’s here, standing before us all
What have you got to offer it?
How much have you acquired?
How much have you got to deliver?
The expectation is high; and your audience
You can’t disappoint, they‘re all you’ve got.

We all celebrate
It’s the time we’ve all waited for
Four years has come and gone
Sacrificing a lot to make it a reality.
But, it’s not all about now…
What about the future?

What next?
What will you do with all you have gained?
That wealth of knowledge should not be wasted
Come on, don’t be a part of the wasteful generation…
Now a GRADUATE, what next?
Life does not end at being a graduate.

You have a great task ahead of you to accomplish
The younger generation are looking up to you, please don’t disappoint.
May we all meet at the top and have good stories to tell
May the dreams of our hearts see the light of day…

I wish you all the best as you move on from here
Always remember that things might not come easy
But you have to keep pressing- persist
See you at the TOP

Re-Arranged

Just think about it
Lately I've been skeptical
Silent when I would used to speak
Distant from all around me
who witness me fail and become weak
Life is overwhelming
Heavy is the head that wears the crown
id love to be the one to disappoint you when I don't fall down

[Pre chorus]
but you don't understand when I'm attempting to explain
because you know it all and I guess things will never change
but you might need my hand when falling in your whole
Your disposition ill remember when im letting go of...

[chorus]
you and me we're through and rearranged
It seems that your not satisfied
there's too much on your mind
So you leave and I cant believe all the bullshit that I find
Life is overwhelming
Heavy is the head that wears the crown
I'd love to be the one to disappoint you when I don't fall down

[pre chorus]

[chorus]

.. you're no good for me
Thank God its over
You make believe that nothing is wrong until you're cryin'
You make believe life is so long until you're dyin'
You make believe that nothing is wrong until you're cryin'

To Be Somebody's Hero

It is never ever easy,
To be somebody's hero.
Oh no no no.
With a living of a life,
That's perfect in someone's eyes.

It is never ever easy,
To be somebody's hero.
Oh no no no.
To one day disappoint.
And become the one criticized.

Those who get a whiff of this,
Try to hide their blemishes.
And flaws they cover to dismiss,
A heart that wishes to please.

And...
Alone they seek to be.
Eventually.

No one is perfect.
No no no.
With this their purpose.
No no no.
To exist on the surface.
No no no.
We all have feelings deep!

No one is perfect.
No no no.
With this their purpose.
No no no.
To exist on the surface.
No no no.
We all have feelings deep!

It is never ever easy,
To be somebody's hero.
Oh no no no.
To one day disappoint.
And become the one criticized.

It is never ever easy,
To be somebody's hero.
Oh no no no.
With a living of a life,
That's perfect in someone's eyes.

No one is perfect.
No no no.
With this their purpose.
No no no.
To exist on the surface.
No no no.
We all have feelings deep!
Yeah.

No one is perfect.
No no no.
With this their purpose.
No no no.
To exist on the surface.
No no no.
We all have feelings deep!
And,
At times they can get deeper.

Dreaming's Art

He could see
that she loved him;

no, more like Idol Worship.

'You' she said
'are the Man of my Dreams
my Prince Charming.

Everything you touch
turns to gold
including me.

I laid down my heart for you
hand pressed my soul for you,
danced round your Maypole
like a young girl in spring.

You populated my every dream;
you in my eyes-
could do no wrong or harm-
you were my dreams' dream.

He: said:
I see now my dear
this was Dangerous Praise
and Deadly Love
at least for me.

I felt in love too
but more with your
image of me,
not as I really was.

And so as not to disappoint
I pretended to believe
the image of me
dancing in your eyes
but in doing so
I participated in
the subterfuge;

creating someone
who was only a facsimile
of the real me
who
then
went into hiding
dreading to be discovered.

To you I was your hero-
the one to up-end every wrong
and we
busily,
both of us,
constructed
white picket fences
in the blue, blue sky.

She:
'I believed you were my superman,
you said so too.'

He:
'I said so because you seemed
to need me to be that fantasy,

and I had no heart to disappoint
that precious dream
you had of me.

She:
'But you did disappoint because I began
to see
that you were not superman
or perfect even.

He:
'And that disappointment in your eyes
was too much for me.
Too much for me to bear.

In time
resentment came
because why should I
live to be another's dream
even the dream of the one I love?

And you too
were not perfection's dream
you too in time
were revealed to me
as merely a woman
a person, not perfect,
not a dream.'

She:
And there we stood the both of us
pouring hurt and harm
on each other as human beings
preferring to cling to our perfect
dream scheme;

even as we came to understand
Misplaced Dreams are not dreams at all

but potential nightmares.

She looked at him,
with her deep, sad eyes
saying:

'Do you think you could love me
if my beauty fades
if my breasts succumb to gravity;
if other women to you
siren call?

He said 'Could you still love me
if in morning light
my paunchy eyes
and thick waist
become pronounced
and lumpy high?

So these two in fading light
allowed themselves
to contemplate
Irony's Twists
and the struggle between
what our dreams want
and who we really are;

so much at stake here
so little it takes
to merely
accept
that dreams are not real;
people are.

This is not to say
dreams must die.

Rather only dream
that dream
which constitutes Love’s Art
which comes with the words:

'I shall love you
til death do us part.'

That too
is a dream:
True,
True Love
imparts.

Mendax

High Lord of Liars, Pickering, to thee
Let meaner mortals bend the subject knee!
Thine is mendacity's imperial crown,
Alike by genius, action and renown.
No man, since words could set a cheek aflame
E'er lied so greatly with so little shame!
O bad old man, must thy remaining years
Be passed in leading idiots by their ears
Thine own (which Justice, if she ruled the roast
Would fasten to the penitential post)
Still wagging sympathetically-hung
the same rocking-bar that bears thy tongue?

Thou dog of darkness, dost thou hope to stay
Time's dread advance till thou hast had thy day?
Dost think the Strangler will release his hold
Because, forsooth, some fibs remain untold?
No, no-beneath thy multiplying load
Of years thou canst not tarry on the road
To dabble in the blood thy leaden feet
Have pressed from bosoms that have ceased to beat
Of reputations margining thy way,
Nor wander from the path new truth to slay.
Tell to thyself whatever lies thou wilt,
Catch as thou canst at pennies got by guilt
Straight down to death this blessed year thou'lt sink,
Thy life washed out as with a wave of ink.
But if this prophecy be not fulfilled,
And thou who killest patience be not killed;
If age assail in vain and vice attack
Only by folly to be beaten back;
Yet Nature can this consolation give:
The rogues who die not are condemned to live!

Ephesus

Thus saith the Lord to Ephesus,
And thus he speaks to some of us;
Amidst my churches, lo, I stand,
And hold the pastors in my hand.

Thy works, to me, are fully known,
Thy patience, and thy toil, I own;
Thy views of gospel truth are clear,
Nor canst thou other doctrine bear.

Yet I must blame while I approve,
Where is thy first, thy fervent love?
Dost thou forget my love to thee,
That thine is grown so faint to me?

Recall to mind the happy days
When thou wast filled with joy and praise;
Repent, thy former works renew,
Then I'll restore thy comforts too.

Return at once, when I reprove,
Lest I thy candlestick remove;
And thou, too late, thy loss lament;
I warn before I strike, Repent.

Hearken to what the Spirit saith,
To him that overcomes by faith;
The fruit of life's unfading tree,
In paradise his food shall be.

Faith More Precious Than Gold

Although now, for a while,
Sore distressed by grievous trial,
And your love for your Lord may grow cold,
You are shielded by Him,
To His hope you’re born again,
And your faith is more precious than gold.

How intense is the fire
Of your grief and deep desire
And the pain of the sob of your soul;
Of God’s plan you’re afraid,
And by Him you feel betrayed,
But your faith is more precious than gold.

Though He slay, you can trust
Him who made you out of dust;
He is still the same God as of old.
Though you can’t see Him now,
Still you love Him anyhow
With your faith that’s more precious than gold.

God is now glorified
When in Him you still abide
And His fruit of endurance show bold.
You’re the work of His hand,
And on Him you must depend,
So your faith is more precious than gold.

You can greatly rejoice
In His name and in His choice
More like Jesus your being to mold.
So then run to the Lord,
To His side and to His Word;
Put to practice this faith more than gold.

When you flee thus in prayer
And experience His care,
Then the proof of your faith will be told.
Though some pain might remain,
You’ll thank God for all the rain,
For you’ll know your faith’s worth more than gold.

And this faith has an end
That you’ll better comprehend:
The salvation and life of your soul,
An inheritance sweet,
Bowing at your Savior’s feet,
Praising Him for this gift more than gold.

Love, Hope, and Faith

We live tomorrow
the dreams of today
Our hopes of the future
gives us faith along the way

Love is the river
of this wakened state
Its never out of time
its never too late

It gives us life
as it flows through our lives
It tears through confusion
loneliness and strife

Love cuts a clear path
through the test of time
You can see where it has been
and watch it unwind

Free as a river
that you can’t control
You can’t even say
where it might flow

Hope is a power
that cant be taken away
It can pull you through
even the toughest of days

Hope can keep you going
when everything else fails
It keeps you company
on the loneliest of trails

Faith is ever daring
in the face of defeat
It can bring you courage
that nothing can beat

Faith is never doubting
in yourself or your beliefs
Holding on to what you know
when content is just a dream

Faith can give you strength
to face what the future brings
Combined with hope and love
you only need the three of these

Love is like a River
Hope is like a dream
Faith is just believing
with nothing to be seen

So dream of tomorrow
and love for today
Hope with all your heart
Let faith show you the way

Bird Of Hope

Soar not too high, O bird of Hope!
Because the skies are fair;
The tempest may come on apace
And overcome thee there.

When far above the mountain tops
Thou soarest, over all –
If, then, the storm should press thee back,
How great would be thy fall!

And thou wouldst lie here at my feet,
A poor and lifeless thing, -
A torn and bleeding birdling,
With limp and broken wing.

Sing not too loud, O bird of Hope!
Because the day is bright;
The sunshine cannot always last –
The morn precedes the night.

And if thy song is of the day,
Then when the day grows dim,
Forlorn and voiceless thou wouldst sit
Among the shadows grim.

Oh! I would have thee soar and sing,
But not too high, or loud,
Remembering that day meets night –
The brilliant sun the cloud.

You had requested,
Something short and sweet.
I am told I can leave a bitter aftertaste!
Thick and long on sweat.
And I do regret,
I am not a teamplayer...yet!
However,
I know I can deliver...
With a prolonged gratification.
May I still have an application?
Just in case the others disappoint.
And my 'joint' you wish to inspect,
For on location activities.
As a prospective client...
Of course.
My aim is to thrill.
And I am open to a six month trial.
Just in case the others disappoint.
And you'd like to see how things with me,
Work out!

'Yes.
And I thank you for that interview,

(g. rossington, e. king, j. van zant, d. tate)
Are you a saint then dont be a stranger
Were you sent down from heaven to show me the way
And if you aint then I see a danger
You better take a minute and hear what Ive got to say
(chorus)
cause Ill keep on tryin to put it straight to you
You better give it straight to me
cause most women seem to have a good time
Makin a fool out of me
Im keepin my faith Ive made up my mind
Ive got nothin left to lose just lay it on the line
Im keepin my faith yea Ill find the one
Who wont steal me blind who wont turn and run
Im keepin my faith Im trustin in you
So dont treat me like those other ones do
Aint no gettin round it tell me to my face
Do you think Im a fool for keepin my faith in you
Ill treat you right Ill do you better
I wont disappoint you I wont make you cry

Were my bosom as false as thou deem'st it to be

I
Were my bosom as false as thou deem'st it to be,
I need not have wander'd from far Galilee;
It was but abjuring my creed to efface
The curse which, thou say'st, is the crime of my race.

II
If the bad never triumph, then God is with thee!
If the slave only sin, thou art spotless and free!
If the Exile on earth is an Outcast on high,
Live on in thy faith, but in mine I will die.

III
I have lost for that faith more than thou canst bestow,
As the God who permits thee to prosper doth know;
In his hand is my heart and my hope—and in thine
The land and the life which for him I resign.

Besides

When I look inside the lines
When I look beside the black and white
You put my world in color
You’ve painted me a picture of my life
With laughs, and love, and you
When I look inside your eyes
I feel your pain
I feel your love
I see my future with you

When I look beyond the sea
When I look inside the dunes
You make me fly, high above the water
You’ve opened up a passage of my life
With tears, and pain, and you
When I look inside the sea
I see how deep you are
I see the waves of your past
I see my future with you

When I look up in the skies
When I see through the clouds
I soar beyond all belief into the heavens and above
You’ve given me faith and hope for all the world
When I look to the stars
I see your faith
I see your dreams
I see my future with you

When I look at you
When I see your soul
We become one
You’ve given my life the colors, the passage, and the faith and hope I need
When I look to you
I have no more fears
I have no more troubles
And I see my future with you for now and forever
