She smiled at me

At Lolly Jackson’s bar
she smiled at me
and as smiles goes,
her’s was teasing.

She smiled quite gay
and her eyes and lips
and exquisite body begged
to play.

In my inner soul
I started to pray
to keep this blonde temptation,
with her inviting boobs and hips
far away from me.

The energy of life
was bursting out,
with every step she took.

a Year later
I saw her in the street
and her thinning hair
and bony face,
reminded me of someone
from somewhere.

When she smiled
It was a ironic grin
and somehow,
I could still see
beauty in her eyes.

Her body was paper thin
and her blue eyes
were sunken in
and AIDS had taken her
to the verge of death.

The Best Smile

It was a portrait
Of six feet height
Full size Lady Grace,
Minus lips on her face.

With all his skill
The artist failed still,
To give her a smile,
Free from any style.

He scanned every mile,
For that unseen smile,
One lovely to admire,
Forever, the world over.

Smiles, smiles every where,
But not a smile there,
New, true and plain,
His lady should own.

His wife smiled.
His girl smiled.
His servant smiled.
His boss smiled.

The milkmaid smiled.
The cartman smiled.
The beggar smiled.
The neighbour smiled.

The dandy smiled.
The waiter smiled.
The grocer smiled.
The councilor smiled.

He saw an ambitious smile,
Not an aesthetic smile,
And a cunning smile,
Not a winning smile.

He saw a dubious smile,
Not a divine smile,
And a greedy smile,
Not a graceful smile.

He saw a mischievous smile,
Not a magnanimous smile,
And a voluptuous smile,
Not a virtuous smile.

Smiles, with strings, he found,
Wherever he went round,
But not the best one,
The Lady Grace won.

The smile, the best,
He found at last,
From his own child,
Rocking in the cradle.

Now the Lady Grace smiled.
Thanks to the child.
The portrait was acclaimed,
The best of its kind.

(Longest word in English is 'Smiles'
Because there is a mile between 'S' and 'S')

Accidental Smile

there were two people met
they're walking in the street
one was an old man
other was a boy
they didn't know each other
they hadn't met before
the old man's eyes almost blind
and the boy forgot wearing his glasses
the old man thought he met his neighbor's son
the boy wore same spotlight jacket
so he smiled to him
the boy thought he met someone knows him
he couldn't see clearly but the old man's lips seen smiled
so he smiled back to him
there were two people met
they're walking in the street
one was an old man
other was a boy
they didn't know each other
they hadn't met before
but they smiled each other

Surprise Me Again

Well I remember the day when she said go away
I rearrange my hair
Well I cant take anymore
I bought some natural food
And then I fell on the floor
Well I cant take anymore
I need a change of address
By the way, why cant you smile
She said at first it was great
And in the middle I stayed
But at the end I was sick
I said Ive got to get out quick
Then you suddenly smiled
You took me by surprise
You suddenly smiled
You took me by again
Well I remember the time
Wrapped up nice and cosy
She was washing my hair
Well I was thinking of midnight, falling in love
Watching the rain fall
When we relax Im going to sleep on your chest
And listen to your beats
And lets go to norway, live in rain and snow
And get totally depressed about nothing
At all really hello
Then you suddenly smiled
You took me by surprise
You suddenly smiled
You took me by again
You suddenly smiled
You suddenly smiled, again and again
You cant smile
Then you suddenly smiled
You took me by surprise
You suddenly smiled
You took me by again
You suddenly smiled
You suddenly smiled
You suddenly smiled
You suddenly smiled
You took me by again

And The Bus Took Us Home

I saw him in the distance,
he looked so pale and old.
Of late the skin had thinned
and his eyes were not so bold.

I saw him in the distance,
and raced to catch him up
but I was far too slow
and soon ran out of puff.

He stopped just at the bus stop,
looking tired and frail.
Breathless I caught up with him
and took his arm with care.

'Hello dad', I spluttered
and kissed him on the cheek.
His skin felt paper thin,
and soft beneath my lips.

His eyes lit up to see me,
his worry lines relaxed,
then he smiled happily
and I smiled back.

The bus pulled up beside us,
we struggled to a seat.
I snuggled up to dear old dad,
who felt so good to me.

I chatted on quite merrily
‘til I noticed he was sleeping,
I tucked my hand right into his
and listened to him breathing.

Image

The girl in the mirror stared back at me.
Unflinching.
Eyes blood shot.
Cheeks stained with tears and sweat.
Her hands dangled weakly, swollen
and splattered with blood.
Matted hair sprung from her head and the black circles
made her eyes seem all the more sunken. Desperate.
She was small. Shriveled.
All hope sucked from her soul and left a scar
across her gray face like a tree branch
reaching for the sun but anchored by the abandoned
body of a young girl whose heart
had long ago stopped beating.
the fallen soldier of a country whose world
had fought against it. A country of Purity.
And this girl raised a cut and bruised arm
and lifted the mask from her face. Hesitantly.
The scars faded.
They left tiny white lines on my arms and face.
And my eyes cleared;
Hope glistening from them
and making my skin glow.
My hair curled softly.
My hands healed and were cleansed.
A slight pink stain rested on my fingers
My flesh was watered back to life.
And I smiled.
A weak, crooked sort of smile.
My teeth were not in their places
and a few were chipped,
but I loved the sight of that broken grin.

The History of a Minute

I saw a lady on the stair,
And she was, oh, so strangely fair,
With a knot of butter-colored hair,
And a waiting, listening, wondering air.
She was tall as a lady ought to be,
And down she looked and smiled at me.
Her eyes were queerly brightly blue
As the bit of sky that last shines through
The gathering clouds, oppressive, gray,
On a chilly windy Autumn day.
There she paused on the stairs and smiled
Like a child who sees another child
With whom it would dearly like to play
If it only could get its nurse away.
And I know not what divine surmise.
Leapt up like fire in my eyes,
But I know her smiling suddenly stopped,
And a curtain between us blankly dropped,
And she passed me by as if I were
A man invisible to her.

A Mysterious Man Or A Deja Vu Experience?

I'm walking on the street and a lot of people passing by,
I'm just in a middle of a crowd and suddenly i felt shivers on my spine,
I met his eyes and i want to keep on walking,
But i've noticed my body didn't responding.

His charming eyes than, i could see,
He was stopping also to stare at me,
He has something special that i feel i know,
Our eyes meet and we smiled with glow.

I feel something different that i can't explain,
It's like i know him forever or it seems to me,
The warmth of his look is melting me with a smile,
Why i'm feeling so, my face is burning like fire.

The sparkle in his eyes, his look so divine,
It makes my lips sealed, i couldn't say a thing,
I'm keep on gaze at him and i saw in his amazing eyes,
All my life developing with my sorrows, my success, my dreams.

Do i know him, he seem familiar to me,
I feel hypnotize by his eyes, i can't move, i can't do a thing,
I keep stare at him and asking myself,
Do i know you mysterious man, do we met in this life or another galaxy?

I feel his warmth, his love,
And i don't want to lose him,
Who is this man standing in front of me,
Is he a mysterious man or a deja vu experience?

Verse 1 Terry
You best believe everyday I get the same ole thang
All kind of bruthas coming up to me
With silly lies that could make you sick oh they need to quit
And get away from me, don't get me wrong I like attention too
But do they really have to act a foolCuz they see a lady lookin' good?
Please admit
Chorus
Is it my hips? my lips?
My eyes? My thighs?
My chest? My hair?
My big ole hey-e-e-ea
Is that all you see?
Is it my hips? My lips?

My chest? My hair?
My big ole hey-e-e-ea
Is that all you see?
Verse 2 Terry
In a limousine, fancy car, bling-bling-bling
Even if you're standing 6 foot 3 or 3 feet tall with no teeth
Have respect for me, try conversation please
Before you try and put your hands on me
When will they ever learn there's more to me,
Than T&A on this PYT
Daddy please
Chorus
Is it my hips? my lips? (Daddy)
My eyes? My thighs?
My chest?(My chest) My hair? (My hair)

How come you actin' like you don't know
Why some bruthas always lose control
When you're wearing them hip high jeans
With your thong out baby please let a playa speak
And don't you start to tweak,
You got the body that can make men weep
So when you walk around in those do me clothes like those videhos
Girl you need to know that all I'm lookin' at is
Chorus
Hips and lipsAnd eyes, your thighs
Your chest, your hair
Girl that big ole (hey-e-e-ea)
Is that all you see?

The Goddess of Love

The sun shone
Down on her face
Its warmth
Its rays
Captured beauty in grace

Her eyes were closed
As she smiled up to the sun
Her body stealth
Naked in gold

The beauty she is
Took their breath away
They witnessed a goddess
In the dappling rays

Slowly with grace
She turned with sheer bliss
And smiled her sweet smile
It's made men shiver and quake
In their fantasy bliss

Like an angel she walked
Amongst flowers of love
Enticing and seducing
What men call lust?

She looks over her shoulder
At the drooling of man
And shimmers in dreams
That drives men insane

The Goddess of love
Is just but a dream
But is this just a taste
Of what men really see

In The Swimming Pool In The Park

Your sister called her
the girl in the red beret

and there she was
in the outdoor

swimming pool
in the park

her gran sitting
in the stands knitting

and Janice saw you
and said

Fancy seeing you here
can you swim?

You stood
in the shallow end

of the pool
in your blue trunks

looking at her wet fair hair
clinging to her body

and her eyes bright
in the sun's afternoon light

No not so far
you replied

I can
she said shaking water

from her hair and head
I can swim the length

and back almost
you looked over

at Jimmy in the pool
talking to friends

she touched your hand
and said

I can show you
how to swim

and she smiled
and you felt her hand

on yours and hoped
Jimmy wasn't looking

seeing her touch you
Maybe another time

you said
pulling your hand away

and plunging it
into the water

I've got to go
you said

my friends
are waiting for me

and she looked at you
her eyes now sad

and she said softly
No stay with me

I like it
when you are near me

and she stood there
in her pink swimsuit

her hair sticking
to her face

her eyes watery and blue
and gazing hopefully

(the noise and laughter
from the pool

momentarily shut off)
at seven year old you.

All I Was Doing Was Breathing

Something has reached out and taken in the beams of my eyes.
There is a longing, it is for his body, for every hair of that dark body.
All I was doing was being, and the Dancing Energy came by my house.
His face looks curiously like the moon, I saw it from the side, smiling.
My family says: 'Don't ever see him again!' And they imply things in a low voice.
But my eyes have their own life; they laugh at rules, and know whose they are.
I believe I can bear on my shoulders whatever you want to say of me.

The meeting

I caught your eye
in the Afrikaans literature class
while studying business
at the private university
and you watched me
but the day your car cooked
on the soccer field,
we really met.

I saw your car parked
on the soccer field
and asked Marthinus
my roommate and friend
why it’s parked there?

He said that it belonged
to a really beautiful girl
who probably has trouble with it,
but that people like him and me
didn’t have a chance
with a girl like you.

So I asked him to introduced us
and your eyes were like the sky,
but not blue,
ever changing
sometimes green and brown
and your auburn hair
glittered in the sun.

I fiddled with a connector on the fan
and suddenly it came on
and when I looked
into your eyes
it was into your soul.

You smiled like an angel
and like magic
we were as if alone
and I was under your spell
and when I smiled back
it did something to you
and I knew
that you were the girl for me.

Stephanie (The Hello pt 1)

Sitting in the warmth of an autumn sun
she seemed to be in reposed thought
when I saw her lips smile….
Though memories rode the wake of passing clouds
her heart was saddened from pain remembered
and from innocence stolen….

Yet on this day,
this sunny day her lips smiled….
I thought for a moment to stop and speak
even though the eyes of strangers seldom ever meet….
But a simple hello emerged from me to her
and from her a sort shy gentle hi….

That hello and that hi
did flutter and fly
dancing rings around her heart
making her lips once again smile
and though she did I still saw the sadness in her
as her eyes seemingly cried….

No tears did I see
Just old memories peeking from her eyes
out at me….
All while in the warmth of an autumn sun
as her lips smiled
as innocence returned
and trust was reborn….

The Future Of Hands

All winter
The trees held up their silent hives
As if they mattered.
But on one main street of bars and lights,
I watched a woman who had begged for days
Throw all the coins back, insulted,
Into the crowd,
And then each cheap stone on her necklace,
As if they were confetti
At a bitter wedding,
And then her stained blouse.
I smiled, then, at her dignity.
But when the night came
With only its usual stars to show,
She was applauded and spat on,
Or those passing stepped around her,
Avoiding her body
As if it had become private, or pure.
When the police arrived,
Sniveling about the cold day she had chosen
To strip,
Her face was a brown jewel,
And I knew the hands
Of the police would have to close now,
On this body abandoned to wind,
Just as her hands closed, finally,
On wind that would have nothing
To do with her,
And never had.

*

I know that wind
Had nothing to do with longing.
I have seen that, even in the eyes
Of girls across a lunch counter--
A desire to be anywhere that wasn't
Texas, and waiting on tables--
Their eyes making a pact
With the standing, staring wheat
About to be turned back into the black soil
That spreads everywhere when no one is watching.

And writing this,
I stare at my hands,
Which are the chroniclers of my death,
Which pull me into this paper
Each night, as onto a bed of silk sheets,
And the woman gone.

After two hours of work,
I do not know if there ever was a woman.

I watch the flies buzz at the sill.

*

Or, if I sleep,
I must choose between two dreams.

In one of them, my hands move calmly
Over a woman's waist, or lift
In speech the way birds rise or settle
Over a marsh, over nesting places.

In the other dream,
There are no nesting places,
The birds are white, and scavenging.
They lift negligently over the town in wind,
Like paper, like the death of paper.
They dip and rise
As if there had never been a heaven.
Beneath them, it is summer.
It is the same town I was born in.
And in its one bar
The man selling illegal human hair from Mexico,
The hair of brides mixed
With the hair of the dead,
Argues all day over the price.

Axiom of Life

In my eyes of heart
In my heart of eyes
Magical moon had lit
Many stars smiled
Over my clouded heart

On my drums of heart
On my heart of drums
Songs played magically
Music oozed slowly
Over my beat less heart

To my dreams of heart
To my heart of dreams
Life roused freshly
Smile smiled smilingly
On dry lips of my heart

For my life of heart
For my heart of life
Colors faded naturally
Season changed timely
For me to be my part

Today I'll Look for Beauty

This Sunday morning
from my usual booth at McD's
I thought to look for something new
For which my eyes to please

I decided this day to look for beauty
In actions, form and graces
And as I gazed, I was amazed
At what I perceived in those faces

The little dark eyed Mexican girls
Of an age no more than three
With umber eyes and ebony curls
Stared wide-eyed back at me

I smiled at such a charming sight
They smiled right back at me
Their mother turned, in a bit of a fright
To see what their children could see

Then her quizzical look lost it's tension
At seeing naught but an old smiling man
The little girls, sharing nothing of mom's apprehension
Happily wiggled hello with all the fingers on both hands

In sharp contrast, at a small table, all alone
Sat a thin regal old lady (probably my age, truth be known)
She possessed that quality of being hewn from stone
That hieroglyphic quality of ancient queens on their throne

A thin nose, somewhat hooked with age
Flinty eyes, of a much faded blue
A woman who could have commanded a stage
T'was it not for a family and too much to do

But even given, the wrinkles and lines
That starburst out from her mouth and her eyes
Methinks they speak of beauty (tho crinkly in kind)
And make her e'en more pretty (at least to ol' guys)

What a contrast in beauty, before me today
The loveliness of the aged, so obvious to see
And the beauty of the children that will graciously change
Into the beauty of women of a certain age

My butt's getting tired, coffee's all drunk
Enough with my thinking, I must be up and without
Perhaps by this noon I'll be drunk as a skunk
And then I'll have something else to go on about

Helen Wiped Her Glasses

Helen wiped
her thick lens glasses

with the hem
of her school dress

and you watched
her finger and thumb

move around the glass
in circular motion

Can you see much
without your glasses?

you asked
she looked up at you

and said
Not much

you for instance
are like a small tree

without leaves
with thin branches

hanging down
you smiled and saw

as she lifted the hem
a glimpse of thigh

white as one kept
out of sun and light

But what do I look like
with your glasses on?

you asked
looking at her face

and eyes that squinted
quite naked

without the specs
A boy who's cheeky

but often shy
especially around girls

and their blue eyes
and dark curls

and she giggled
and dropped

the hem of
her dress

and put her glasses on
and her eyes enlarged

and gazed at you
taking in

your unkempt hair
and school boy grin

and at that moment
as she stood stifling

her giggle with one
small hand

you sensed a love
you neither had before

nor could
in the light of day

and innocence of youth
quite understand.

His Smile

He smiled … it was as if I’d never seen
a smile before; as if, that moment, God
invented smiles; as if there’d never been
a reason for a gift that was so good…

He smiled… as if from every day and year
of his own life, with each its gratitude
to give assurance, that we’re living here
to fill our living with that godly good…

Was this how angels smile? Was this as God –
who has no need to smile – and thus, whose smile
may be unbounded, when he sees mankind
now in His image, shining as He shines?

Was this the peace on earth of God’s first dawn?
Mandela smiled.. and mankind was reborn.
