Bars
He paces the space off
between the bars,
draws a cigarette out of his ass
and a match
that is hidden beneath the mattress
which he draws against a cement floor
and the match lights up
and in ecstasy
he draws in the marijuana fumes.
Just now somebody
are going to enter him from behind
in the shower
and he tries
to get it out of his thoughts
and thinks about the Vaseline
with which he is going
to wipe his body glowing
and suddenly the cigarette tastes bitter
and like a animal in zoo
he is caught and caged in
and monotony eats through his humanity
and he count while he measures his paces,
do a few push ups
and forces a grin
as he thinks that a hero character would have
l’Envoi
but the longing for drugs
is already in him
and to be bound to it
is another kind of penalty, a jail
where no light ever comes
that is making him an animal
who acts irrationally
waiting for the next fix.

Finding My Peace
I need to find peace somewhere. I need to let go of all the negtivie thoughts go like when you release a caged animal.
That animal wants to just run but I need to relax.
All day long that anmial thinks about is freedom. All day long I think about is finding my tiny little world.
I am like a caged animal in my littile world. All i want is to be free. Day in and day out I feel traped by all the negtive things in my life and feel as though no postive hings can or will set me free frm this cage.
But thats when god steps in and said marie you can do what youset your mind to. I replied thank you God for encorging me in a real time of need.
Every one needs encougement at times.

Unnamed Prostitute
her drugs and anger draws her
restless smile, it is here where she
find her straight jacket, and the
openness of a wingless bird, her
drugs and anger become more like
dust, and her, the unnamed prostitute,
waiting for the drugs to do their stuff..
and her thoughts are wrapped in
linen, and her body, , empty.....just
like the bottles of pills..

A Bird of Ploy
In a meadow serene
Appears a sight seldom seen
A bird and a cat
Stand back to back
Take ten paces
Then stop and turn their faces
The bird suddenly draws a gun
The cat in panic leaves on the run
The bird laughing drops the 'toy'
For it was merely a clever ploy
Giving the bird space to fly
Rather than stand, fight... and surely die!

a Reminiscence
It’s a long while back and yet it stays,
how she draws delightful on a cigarette
and drink a glass,
of yellow sparkling st. Anna with me.
Maybe I was on a dark road
at the time and she gave me
a bit of light and protection against loneliness
and the impact of destiny.
She understood me for who and what I am
and much more than passion can find
a way to bind,
I was trapped by her humanity.

I'm drowning in harebells…
Bright as water in bitter wells
Where a smile draws the dust
Oh I'm drowning in harebells…
Chewing on what's solaced.
Oh like a pocket penknife
She cuts me when I treat her kind.
But she doesn't know me?
She just slipstreams into my mysterious life.
Into my mysterious mind
Saying; were just two of a kind
To be cremated together under the sun
But honestly she doesn't know me, none.
But when head lights intercept us…
As another fortified acceptance falls
I see her like a bridge with backward waters
Draining an ocean; with no-pitfalls.
Bright as water in bitter wells
Where a smile draws the dust
Oh I'm drowning in harebells
Chewing on what's solaced.
Daughter of the lilies where the dragonfly
Dwells to the north in my blood
And the golden bees dusting in their lunch
Girl you've got such charms knee deep in mud.
Oh purple pools and shadow
I'm caught up with you
Could be dancing on a cloudless moon
But I'm just falling down a well with you.

Sonnet LXXIX: The Monochord
Is it this sky's vast vault or ocean's sound
That is Life's self and draws my life from me,
And by instinct ineffable decree
Holds my breath quailing on the bitter bound?
Nay, is it Life or Death, thus thunder-crown'd,
That 'mid the tide of all emergency
Now notes my separate wave, and to what sea
Its difficult eddies labour in the ground?
Oh! what is this that knows the road I came,
The flame turned cloud, the cloud returned to flame,
The lifted shifted steeps and all the way?—
That draws round me at last this wind-warm space,
And in regenerate rapture turns my face
Upon the devious coverts of dismay?

I'm Sick Of It
I'm sick, sick, sick of cigarette addiction
I'm sick of movies and their dishonest depiction
That smoking is glamorous, sophisticated and cool
When what it really is is something that rules
The cigarette addict from morning to night
And all the hours in between, they can never take flight
From the constant nagging fear that they must inhale the fumes
Of a deadly poison that will lead them to their doom
A cigarette addict can barely do a thing
Without a cigarette, it's got them on a string
They have to smoke it now, it just cannot wait
And then, another and another, they've really taken the bait
A cigarette addict is as helpless as a lamb
On a frosty hillside with no mother to keep it warm
Their mind is so confused that they actually believe
A cigarette is their saviour, they are so deceived

I Dreamt Of My Father Last Night
I dreamt of my father last night
with an indifferent boy to his height
out from a hazy meadow into my sight
on his face was this grave grin
as he paused a little for me to join
while the boy looked away in vague pain
I might have been curious who he was
but father took out his cigarette case
that exuded its old taciturn wince
humbly I took the cigarette
though we both had long since quit
and leaned forward for father to light it
somehow my rusty puff snuffed out father’s light
the only inexplicable one for the night
while my apologetically lit cigarette was alright
I handed it over for father to light his cigarette
which he puffed hard but could not manage it
even if the two were closely joint tête-à-tête
knowing it was a dream I did not want daylight
in that haziness my cigarette was only thing alight
I waited and waited for father to get his light —

Ang Tunay Na Lalaki (The Real Man) Is Baffled By Cryptic Messages
He finds on cheap match covers.
PLEASE MAKE ME
TASTE LIKE A MAN
is the first one he reads after lighting up
an American Spirit cigarette on the corner
of Broadway and Houston. The painted Statue
of Liberty on the giant DKNY ad on the side
of the building winks her big blue eye
as if she understands what those words mean,
as if she could make him taste like a man.
The street sign changes to WALK
and the natural smoke of the natural cigarette
feels good in his lungs. He thinks
of the taste of fried garlic, of anise seeds,
of rambutan fruit, of broiled tuna--
none comes close to what a man
would taste like in his mind. He reaches
underneath his shirt and sweater to scratch
his left arm-pit. He smells his fingers
and thinks: this is what a Filipino man
must taste like to American women.
To test his hypothesis, he sticks
his index finger in his mouth, pulls
it out with a slurpy sound and points upwards
as if he were testing the wind,
as if he were carrying a flaming torch.

Forced to meet an enemy in a rifle's sight (in answer to Keith Douglas)
Forced to meet an enemy in a rifle's sight
a unknown man appears, scratches his head,
he lights a cigarette, draws on it until it glows,
looks at a photo in a way that only his wife knows
his attention moves somewhere up ahead,
to some ibises in their screeching flight
the crosshairs move to his heart bit by bit
while mechanically I test the wind,
thoughts of his family life now means nothing
while on the trigger my finger is pressing,
and no escape can a mortal man find
against full metal jacket bullets that accurately hit.
l'Envoi
Far too familiar is death's smell,
when every soldier is more machine, than man,
far too familiar are the sounds of bullets whining,
the sight of bodies lying lifeless,
as putrid rotting human flesh, heartless,
the horrors of war are undermining
the essence of being human,
as soldiers live afterwards in a daily kind of hell.

I Dropped My Draws
I dropped my draws!
And instantly...
We did not care,
Where they were!
I drew her in my mind!
All the time.
On my canvas!
I caught the sunlight on her hair.
Dew dipped in the mornings,
To glisten.
With a hint of tint...
Captured by the setting of the Sun.
And after I was done...
I would collect my drawings,
To begin my long walk home!
High on Russian Hill.
In San Francisco.
And she rushed around from Chestnut.
Brushed against me...
As I turned to lose sight of the Wharf.
We bumped!
And I dropped my draws.
Scattered they flew into the street.
She noticed her image,
On nearly all of them.
She looked at me and grinned.
Within an instant...
We fixed our eyes.
And neither one of us cared,
Where my draws were.

I pray to god daily
He always thinks
I am a bigger than the others
I can abuse more loudly
Play tricks
Cheat more than anybody
Living in hate
Always trying to prove
I am better than the others
I listen to nobody
I don’t care for any body
I pray to god daily
So that I can go to
Heaven
He forgets
Nothing is hidden
From the god above
He doesn’t like
They way he thinks
The way he acts
God keeps smiling
On his foolish ways
Waiting to send him
To place known as hell

The hunger
the hunger thinks the rice
can chew both skin and bone
the hunger thinks it's nice
to eat although forlorn
the hunger thinks the corn
can swallow ears and eyes
deaf blind hunger born
self eaten within it dies
the hunger thinks the food
is just a body's unfair breath
the hunger knows the interlude
no food the body eats itself
the hunger thinks the body rotten
is just a place to survive and eat
the hunger of the lost and forgotten
makes its way to the last heart beat

Tired One
She burns the midnight oil.
She rubs her tired eyes.
She paces in her bare feet
and thinks of starry skies.
She looks up at the night sky
and thinks of words to write.
And as they slowly fill her head,
the day replaces night.

You Are Very Hard To Try And Forget (Stave Stanza Sestets)
I do not like the loveliest poetry,
or any kind of music better than you
and although these things are awesome to me
they do not have the ability to be true
but from the very time that we had met,
you are very hard to try and forget.
There is something in the way you do smile
that draws me, does all my feelings beguile;
it may sound somewhat absurd or dissolute
but I find you beautiful and very cute,
more intoxicating than wine or a cigarette,
you are very hard to try and forget.

Animal Men
Animal men do think a dangerous weapon is kind,
And fortunate songs are written due to states
Inside a few mirrors, noses are pinned to smell.
The smell of a finger is like guests,
And eating may concern you further with disgust.
My mirror is made going to, my animal man
Is in his mirror, and why does this action be learnt?
Learning a real intelligent manliness
Has sprinted our action and reflected our thoughts
In the mirrors that display hard facts about gods
Of the world. Of a success is the man who abstains
From animal acts, each of them are bright yet harm is in their sight
And felt by the fingers.
Each harmful man is some kind of animal,
And the mad are those who can be not sane.

Wish my pain was a cigarette
Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have been touch by you
Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have had the comfort of your hand
Wish my pain was a cigarette,
I would have been on your lips
Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have been consumed with time
Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have ended in an ashtray
Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have been thrown away

It Is In Provence That We Are Dancing
It is in Provence that we are dancing,
when I drink the first whiskey,
while the lights of the Riviera glitters,
a star jumps in the sky;
with you I take a wild chance.
When you smile draws me and teases,
I see your face in my glass
while more liquor is splashing in
and your laughter with both joy and sadness,
suddenly gives life to my heart.
When you follow me
you invite me to your apartment,
where I count off money for the taxi,
you embrace me
with your arms around my neck,
when we stand in the foyer.
A young couple walks past
when you look mischievously lovely,
look with bright blue eyes at me,
before you take my hand
and we walk up the stairway
while your hips sway inviting.
When we reach your apartment,
your lips sudden find mine,
just there I know no more pain,
outside there are lights flowering,
above us stars that glitter
and your body is sweet and bitter.
