Franz Werfel

The Patient

The patient looks outs into the garden burning
With Christmas* stars of vermillion fire.
They flower, he feels, nicely on that bush together,
But he is no longer akin to himself.

Timidly he plumbs his inhalations night and day,
Sinking into that inner circle of being him.
Has he ever breathed without doubt?
How strange that now he thinks each breath.

People are so dear and ill-timed.
They offer their care, which lingers.
The patient is ashamed because of that stress
Which accentuates all talk of hope.

On his blanket lies the morning paper
With a giant headline screaming.
From the corner of his eye the patient reads
What already escapes his memory.

What, bombs, hecatombs slaughtered, downfalls
Of people and cities, early and evening?
Is this the world then? —The ego is a throng
Of identity burst long ago.

The I is like one of those swarms of bees,
Pendent, ready to fly, relocate …
It is filled with only one desire: For warmth,
And unmindful as forever is.

The Lean, Brown Man

There's a big, brown man in the hinterland
Whom the nation had forgot;
He's a stolid man and a patient man
And he does not talk a lot:
And the seasons frown or the seasons smile
As he toils to sow, to reap;
And as he toils he thinks the while;
And his thoughts are long and deep.

There's a silent man in the hinterland
A land of earth-stained clowns
To the little street-bred people cooped
In the noisy seaboard towns
In the towns where many a catch-cry's raised
And devious scheme devised,
Where the talkers reign, and thoughts, like men,
Grow smug and standardised.

There's a quite man in the hinterland
Who scorns the shifts and tricks
Of the little men that talk and scheme
In the game of politics.
They have wooed him long with sly pretence
Thro' many a season past.
He was deemed a fool, and he suffered much;
But his patience ends at last.

There's a patient man in the hinterland
Who has scant time for words,
For the sounding phrase and the cries they raise
To sway the thoughtless herds.
Long has he toiled, this patient man
That the folk be fed and housed
But guile shall know no sterner foe
Than the patient man aroused.

My God

my God is just around
like a friend who reads my poems
in the midst of his professor's lecture
on oil pipes and cracking chemistry
my God is silent
like the glass sculpture on my desk
my God is patient
like a blank paper on my table
my God is filled with possibilities
like a pen ready with its ink
my God is forever
like the series of green hills
extending an infinity of my thoughts

my God!
i am tired, i am overworked, and i am always late.

Good Clean Fun

Theres a smile on the wind as it touches my face
And starts to erase all the gloom
And the sun with a kiss, begins to dismiss the
Memory of my life without you
Well it seems like yesterday that my path took me away
Although I know its been at least a year
But now my path heads home
And your patient time alone
Has brought me even closer to you, dear
And this plane gets closer
Every minute I look down to a watch that keeps looking back at me
And it says to me, be patient son youve waited this long.
How can I be strong?
And this the plane gets closer
Every minute I look down to watch that keeps looking back at me
And it says to me, be patient son youve waited this long.
How can I be strong?
Well the plane is finally down
And the engines stopped their sound
And I look in the crowd and there you stand
And the gap that once was time
Is forever closed behind
I told you Id come back and here I am...

Competition makes things come out right. Well, what does that mean in health care? More hospitals so they compete with each other. More doctors compete with each other. More pharmaceutical companies. We set up war. Wait a minute, let's talk about the patient. The patient doesn't need a war.

Patient, Thou speak’st only the truth

The truth, he speaks, the patient, sick when he's,
'Tis rare for him to tell a pack of lies;
If not, the Diagnosis will go amiss,
The patient knows all this if he is wise.

How can the Doctor know the malady,
Without the patient telling his Symptom?
Diagnosis must precede the Remedy,
A commodity, Health's bought but seldom.

0 patient, Thou better speak truth alone!
The Doctor is no real Demi-God;
Help him help thee, 'fore thy family shall moan;
If thou art ill, Doctor is next to God.
Diseases can dupe the best of Doctors,
A bad history can turn into thine hearse.

Did You Read The Morning Paper

(Nickolas Ashford/Valerie Simpson/R. Monica)
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
There on the front page was a picture
Of a crowd as they watched a parade passing by
And through the haze of last nights sleep
Something familiar caught my eye
There was a couple looking so much in love, yes
They had a front line view
And as I pulled the paper closer
I realized standing next to her it was you
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Now I know why you've been working late each night
And no longer have desire to ever hold me tight
And your busy, busy schedule was all a lie
Oh, even the dream with a bonus, oh just another alibi
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Did you get the news today
Did you read the morning paper
Isn't the picture very clear
Where do we go from here
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headlines
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Oh, what now
Did you read the morning paper
Did you get the news today

Depression To Faith

I see now that I can no longer cope
I finally reached the end of my rope.
All my life I’ve been the provider
Now I feel like I’m the outsider.
Looking in To the way life used to be
When I was happy and care free.

Now I am under so much stress
I think it’s time- that I rest.
I’ve always been the one to talk
About love, hope, and faith
Now I can no longer relate.

What makes us get to a point so low
That you have no where s to go.

When the apostles were crossing the lake
And the winds and rains came and they were sinking
They awoke JESUS saying
Master, master, - we are sinking.

Then JESUS calmed the waters and
the winds, and the rains
They just stood in wonder and felt so ashamed.
As he asked: where is your faith?

Now I stand here - ashamed of all my fears
For he is by my side to wipe away my tears.
My faith has always been my foundation
My heart, my soul, my inspiration.
Now I am growing weak
And the lords strength I do seek.

Without faith - all hope is gone
But the strength of your love lingers on.
So here I apply all that you’ve given
Because you make life worth living.

Patience

Be patient with you?
When the stooping sky
Leans down upon the hills
And tenderly, as one who soothing stills
An anguish, gathers earth to lie
Embraced and girdled. Do the sun-filled men
Feel patience then?

Be patient with you?
When the snow-girt earth
Cracks to let through a spurt
Of sudden green, and from the muddy dirt
A snowdrop leaps, how mark its worth
To eyes frost-hardened, and do weary men
Feel patience then?

Be patient with you?
When pain's iron bars
Their rivets tighten, stern
To bend and break their victims; as they turn,
Hopeless, there stand the purple jars
Of night to spill oblivion. Do these men
Feel patience then?

Be patient with you?
You! My sun and moon!
My basketful of flowers!
My money-bag of shining dreams! My hours,
Windless and still, of afternoon!
You are my world and I your citizen.
What meaning can have patience then?

Rays Of Hope

RAYS OF HOPE
Hole of the cell brings the hope of rays,
These rays are sun-rays
Which dance in the cell of prison from morning to evening?
In morning when sun-rays touch my forehead
They recall the blessings of my mother and father.
In evening when sun-rays lit up the wall of the cell
They tell me that miseries are not universal,
They end as night ends in the morning.
Sun-rays also memorizes the morning of my village and sun set on the hill near the village.
These rays also vitalize me and create patient in me so I can bear the difficulties of the prison.
Now I am hopeful that in near future I will come out from the prison and meet my beloved people.
Because they are waiting for me as I am waiting for the sun-rays of the morning.

Loves nothing but people lieing

Love is nothing compared to what other people think
People think that love is just a four letter word, but i'm here to tell you the're wrong.
Love has all things for people in store
Loves thy world of happiness

Love leads to marriage
Marriage leads to sex
Sex leads to children

Children leads to a lovely world of lonely ness and somethimes happiness
Love doesn't care wether he's poor or not.
Love is when you say you love some one and you mean it.
Love can change someone's mind about many things

Everything will come to you if you are patient
Having nobody in your life is lonely and sad if you've loved someone so much that you would do anything to be with that person again
Its never going to be the same if you don't be patient with yourself and with God!

Psycopathia Sexualis

Case 19)
X., peasant, aged thirty-four and a half; Sun-Worshipper. Father and Mother were hard drinkers. Since his fifth year patient has had epileptic convulsions-i.e. he falls down unconscious, lies still two or three minutes, and then gets up and runs directly with staring eyes towards the Sun. Sexuality was first manifested at seventeen. The patient had inclinations neither for women nor for men, but for constellations (stars, moons, suns et cetera). He had intercourse with stars and moons and later with comets and suns. Never any onanism.

The patient paints pictures of suns; is of a very limited intelligence. For years, religious paranoia, with states of ecstasy. He has an 'inexplicable' love for the Sun, for whom he would sacrifice his life. Taken to hospital, he proves to be free from infirmity and signs of anatomical degeneration.

Be Very Patient

Be very patient,
The potter's clay;
Be very wise,
The writer's pen;
Be very useful,
Of the muse of life with a living hope;
Let your yes be yes and your no be no.
Life is like the patience of Iyyob,
So abstain from fleshly lust;
Like the days of our visitations on this earth.

Sarah obeyed Abraham,
Like the sea and the seashore;
So established are the two witnesses.
Oh womb, womb, womb!
Oh bomb, bomb, bpomb! !
Oh tomb, tomb, tomb! ! !
Be very patient in this life.
Womb. bomb, tomb;
The womb is opened.
Womb, bomb, tomb;
The earth is defiled.
Womb, bomb, tomb;
The time of trouble on this earth with our muses.

Our bombs will shake the heavens,
And our sins will led us to our tombs;
As it is written in the Book Of Life like,
A child born today from the womb.
We came out of the womb and,
Many of us will be killed by the bombs! !
Which will finally send us into the tombs.
Read about the facts,
Learn about the truth,
Our days of darkness from the womb!

We came out of the womb and,
Are destroying the world with our bombs;
Soon, we will be buried in the tombs!
Womb, bomb, tomb;
Be very patient on this earth without hatred.
Lets be each others keeper,
Lets learn for the truth of all things;
Our days on this earth is still very short.

Have A Nice Day

'Help, help, ' said a man. 'I'm drowning.'
'Hang on, ' said a man from the shore.
'Help, help, ' said the man. 'I'm not clowning.'
'Yes, I know, I heard you before.
Be patient dear man who is drowning,
You, see I've got a disease.
I'm waiting for a Doctor J. Browning.
So do be patient please.'
'How long, ' said the man who was drowning. 'Will it take for the Doc to arrive? '
'Not very long, ' said the man with the disease. 'Till then try staying alive.'
'Very well, ' said the man who was drowning. 'I'll try and stay afloat.
By reciting the poems of Browning
And other things he wrote.'
'Help, help, ' said the man with the disease, 'I suddenly feel quite ill.'
'Keep calm.' said the man who was drowning, ' Breathe deeply and lie quite still.'
'Oh dear, ' said the man with the awful disease. 'I think I'm going to die.'
'Farewell, ' said the man who was drowning.
Said the man with the disease, 'goodbye.'
So the man who was drowning, drownded
And the man with the disease past away.
But apart from that,
And a fire in my flat,
It's been a very nice day.

Be Patient, Trust Me, Do As I Say

You won’t believe the things for you I have in store
As time goes by, I’ll give you more and more
Be patient, trust me, do as I say
And I’ll continue guiding you day by day

You’ll never guess the plans I have for you
Continue always asking me what I want you to do
Be patient, trust me, do as I say
And I’ll continue guiding you day by day

You can’t even imagine the places you will go
When tomorrow comes, I’ll let you know
For today, be patient, trust me, do as I say
And I’ll continue guiding you day by day

I’ve finally understood your sole request today
That’s all I have to do, just listen and obey
Be patient, trust you, and do as you say…

Annunciation

'The lord appeared in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush and behold, the bush burned with fire and the bush was not consumed.'-EXODOUS iii.2.

When to your virgin heart, unstirred, ungiven,
Upon the quiet mountainside untrod,
The sudden naked fire came down from heaven,
Burning you with the very breath of God,

Was the sun lost? Were all the sweet stars dim
While God raised round your head those walls of light?
Were you locked dumbly, terribly with Him,
Within that burning temple day and night?

What was it to have God there like a bird-
God like a great, gold flower upon your breast-
While He spake things that only one man heard,
Face down before that glory manifest?

When that strange flame went up the mountain side,
Were your forsaken lips so burned with gold
That the creatures of the wild stood off and cried,
And in your breast no blossom dared unfold?

Did you call back the startled birds to build,
And put forth all your simple buds again,
Forgetting how your branches once were filled,
In sweet embrace of passing sun and rain?

Or were all other birds forbidden sing
After those great, gold plumes had made their nest?
Was, in its strange and awful blossoming,
That great, gold flower the last upon your breast?

Love Is Fertile Land For Great Virtues!

'Love is patient,
as love of a kind hearted mother,

Not only excuses her own child,
but also its pet and close friends,
Dancing in mud an then come in and dance on the costly and sofa,
Enjoying with pet with dirty legs
and friends with shoes on!

love is kind. Kind enough
to care even the screaming patient

It does not envy, even when the love hidden in heart has lost to someone,
May be better or not
than
the one who love

Love does not boast, as
That was in heart of third daughter of King Lear,
She said she loved the King as much as dutiful daughter should be! And She proved her words were from her heart!

Love is not proud.
It knows for sure, nothing is true and eternal,
There is nothing to be proud of heartful feelings!
It is not rude, When the dog spilled oil of the lamp,
On that Wor Newton worked for several months, the papers were ashes within minutes,
Newton was never rude, he just took care of the dog
and patiently put out the fire,

When a neighbours child asked Einstein to solve some nursery maths to help it!

Love is not self-seeking, strange to see a King denying heaven,
if not the dog followed him to door of heaven is denied admission!

Love is not easily angered,
As a mother patiently bears all that loss due to child or a patient father takes his child into lap and patiently answers its innocent questions!
Love keeps no
record of wrongs.
How many times one child might have kicked ones chest,
How many times pets might have caused mess,
No one had kept any records
Even the God had kept no records of sins!

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
Whenever some People want to breakup love or friendship
Truth is dried and stuffed with lies,
Adding spices and flavour,
But love that looks at what is what
as it is and makes truth to shine!
That keeps away, people never succeed to break!

Love always protects,
This need no example than that of our own parents not fearing to face the pain to protect us!

Love always trusts, always hopes,
as I trust you all and hope that you love my poem,
And I persevere for proper comments as
Love is pure and soft, yet it is not brittle, rigid as
Love always perseveres.'
And love always preserves warm feelings in heart!

The Patient

Think of the patient;
Hear his cry;
With pain and suff’ring,
Eyes go dry.

Think of his poor state
And his mind;
His diseased body,
Doctors find.

Think of the patient
His travail;
Him from agony;
None can bail.

Think of the disease
Without cure;
Man lives for God’s sake:
And endure.

Think of his doomed fate;
None can change;
If drugs still work ’tis
From God’s range.

Think of the patient,
His family;
Can you give succor?
For what fee?

Early Morning Cold Taxi

3:36, its cold, I know Im growing old,
With lifes best side on the downward slope,
Its in my own hands, I know Ill cope,
My girls with me and all my friends can see.
Here I am again,
Early morning cold taxi.
Early morning cold taxi.
Done it before, do it again,
Know from experience its not in vain,
Shes the best Ive had, I cannot see, what someone else can do to me.
Its a long way home but loves so warm, youll see.
Here I am again,
Early morning cold taxi.
Early morning cold taxi.
Early morning cold taxi,
Each time I do it, I feel so down and out,
Early morning cold taxi,
though my mind thinks strange Ill keep on, no doubt.
3:36, its cold, I know Im growing old,
One day well be wed,
This I know for its what she said,
Then no more will my mind be uneasy.
Early morning cold taxi,

The Patient Mental

Patient,
Just as I am,
As always,
Watch the time go by,
Nothing left to pass by,
The minutes follow me,
Drunken little people,
Work away in me,
Why wont they leave me, leave me alone
When I dont even want me, want me
I have to, kill the words,
Before they, form my sentence,
The sentence that is me,
Judged by those that carry
The patient sits in cradled arms
That comfort me by strangling
Why wont they leave me, leave me alone
When I dont even want me,
The patient mental sits and stares
An idle mind thats empty, screaming
Staring back
Why wont they leave him, leave him alone
A passive speared ritual
Drive by our war ship...the hate driven envy
They have to kill the meal,
Before they can consume,
Consume my inner peace,
Without the understanding,
Trapped inside the works,
The hands are moving me
The patient mental sits and stares
An idle mind thats empty, screaming
Staring back
Why wont they leave him, leave him alone
A passive speared ritual
Drive by our war ship...the hate driven envy
Release me,
Let me go,
Why do they observe me?
Theres nothing here to cure,
I can see the silhouettes,
That sit behind the mirror
Im just like a clock upon the wall
Always moving, but never going anywhere
The patient mental sits and stares
An idle mind thats empty, screaming
Staring back
Why wont they leave him, leave him alone
A passive speared ritual
Drive by our war ship...the hate driven envy
