We Have Been Men (For Juan, And For Me!)

we learn...
somewhere in chapters
written in dust, ...
with temples turned grey,
and tired sunset eyes.
leaving tiny fragments of heart,
spread in the darkness...
to become fireflies for the poor.
with bent backs testifying,
and well worn boots.
love turned to echoes,
drawing blood from the veins.
simple hands working silently,
weaving on the master loom.
leaving only the scent of our passing,
for strangers to comb.
having lived and given,
and nothing more asked.
we turn with gratitude to the door,
and tip our hats to the night!
we have been men,
and now we are more!

1900 Poems

1900 poems...
love letters written
in flesh,
with all the scars
and bruises in plain sight...
all the falling stars...

the thunder that came
without lightning,
lightning that came
without the rain...
broken shovels, broken rakes,
and a pen that betrayed...

1900 nails in the bridge,
1900 miles,1900 steps.
1900 seats at the table,
1900 dreams and desires!

a small fire,
we keep adding logs.
strangers come and go,
all wanting to get warm.

passing out bowls of stew,
and old worn blankets.
the night air is still,
the moonlight whispers....

we walk down to the water,
and see the reflections,
year after year, soul after soul.
all the same, yet all different...

fireflies testify to the darkness.
this long road nearly over...
leaving no footprints,
no scent, or markers...

except...
1900 poems...
love letters written,
from the hollow place
back of your heart!

Leaving Home Aint Easy

I take a step outside
And I breathe the air
And I slam the door
And Im on my way
I wont lay no blame
I wont call you names
cause Ive made my break
And I wont look back
Ive turned my back
On those endless games
Im all through with ties
Im all tired of tears
Im a happy man
Dont it look that way?
Shaking dust from my shoes
Theres a road ahead
And theres no way back home
Ohh but I have
Leaving home aint easy
Oh I never thought it would be easy
Leaving on your own
Oh is the main thing calling me back?
Leaving home aint easy
On the one your leaving home
Stay my love my love please stay
Stray my love whats wrong my love?
Whats right my love?
Ohh leaving home aint easy
I thought how could I think of leaving
Leaving on your own
Still trying to persuade me that
Leaving home aint necessary
Leave the only way
Leaving home aint easy
But may be the only way

Strangers In The Night

Strangers in the night exchanging glances
Wond'ring in the night
What were the chances we'd be sharing love
Before the night was through.
Something in your eyes was so inviting,
Something in you smile was so exciting,
Something in my heart,
Told me I must have you.
Strangers in the night, two lonely people
We were strangers in the night
Up to the moment
When we said our first hello.
Little did we know
Love was just a glance away,
A warm embracing dance away and
Ever since that night we've been together.
Lovers at first sight, in love forever.
It turned out so right,
For strangers in the night.
Love was just a glance away,
A warm embracing dance away and
Ever since that night we've been together.
Lovers at first sight, in love forever.
It turned out so right,
For strangers in the night.
For strangers in the night
For strangers in the night

Leaving New York

It's quiet now
And what it brings
Is everything
Comes calling back
A brilliant night
I'm still awake
I looked ahead
I'm sure I saw you there
You don't need me
To tell you now
That nothing can compare
You might have laughed if I told you
You might have hidden A frown
You might have succeeded in changing me
I might have been turned around
It's easier to leave than to be left behind
Leaving was never my proud
Leaving New York, never easy
I saw the light fading out
Now life is sweet
And what it brings
I tried to take
But loneliness
It wears me out
It lies in way
And all not lost
Still in my eyes
The shadow of necklace
Across your thigh
I might've lived my life in a dream, but I swear
This is real
Memory fuses and shatters like glass
Mercurial future, forget the past
It's you, it's what I feel.
You might have laughed if I told you (it's pulling me apart)
You might have hidden a frown (change)
You might have succeeded in changing me (it's pulling me apart)
I might have been turned around (change)
It's easier to leave than to be left behind (it's pulling me apart)
Leaving was never my proud (change)
Leaving New York, never easy (it's pulling me apart)
I saw the light fading out
You find it in your heart, it's pulling me apart
You find it in your heart, change...
I told you, forever
I love you, forever
I told you, I love you
I love you, forever
I told you, forever
You never, you never
You told me forever
You might have laughed if I told you
You might have hidden the frown
You might have succeeded in changing me
I might have been turned around
It's easier to leave than to be left behind (it's pulling me apart)
Leaving was never my proud (change)
Leaving New York never easy (it's pulling me apart)
I saw the life fading out (change)
Leaving New York, never easy (it's pulling me apart)
I saw the light fading out (change)
Leaving New York never easy (it's pulling me apart)
I saw the life fading out (change)

Remember Me When Im Gone

Why I don't know why even how?

How Lovers turn strangers

How all the passion and love

Turn in to ashes just in a while

How your real love flew

How it could be true

The love between me and you

The thing that I've never got

How the love like flower dies

How Would you tell me how

How you could forget the love

For It's sake days and nights breathless stood there

Never got tired of knocking the doors of my heart

love I loved you and lived for your love even after you've gone

Love I loved and I lived your pain

For your sake I used to love your pain

Because my love was real and
Truer than true

No one ever will be loved like The way I loved you

Someday you will comeback
But it'll be too late

never again you'll find me there

A lifetime I'm standing right here
Got tired this heart of mine

Long years alone waited for your return

If I had one more life I would sacrifice for your love

But when the time of leaving comes

There's nothing to do my love

When you come back when I'm gone
you will return home broken

That moment you'll feel how much you've hurt the one who loved you more than her life

I'll go far away taking with me your love and all the memories

Those memories never gone away
Like my shadow always chased my way

Remember me when I'm gone

Because even in my grave I'll always love those smiling green eyes.

Shes Leaving

Everyday
A new start
A cheap affair
A sordid truth
Well never learn
To guide our hearts
Well never find
What we deserve
Shes leaving
She waited for so long
Shed pretend
Thant she cared
Invent some tale
Just to gain his heart
But no more dreams
She didnt dare
She washed her hands
Of this whole affair
Shes leaving
She waited for so long
But as she left
She gave her heart
Abandoned hope
And turned for home
I thought Id ask
But then again
The more we learn
The less we know

You turned from me

Remember me as I was back then
As a precious memory of comfort in time of agony and pain
You have turned from me; but I always see
The beautiful maid laughing by a flowering spring tree

With the slaying eyes that made the air around so bright
Under shaking, flickering stars of warm hazy summer night
Hands were touching hands
Love grew slowly in such timid shy trend

You have turned from me; but I always remember
The bursting laugh against the night dew of early November
That one careless night of youth and laugh
While outside the spangled reeds in the silver moon did bath

For me, that night is the only night I have
Such a precious jewel against hard times in my heart I save
And how about you? in shine or in sorrow
How far did that splendid night in your heart grow?

You have turned from me time passes for long
The years were harsh leaving me forlorn without a song
I dare you never will see
What time and years have done to me

You're Leaving Too Soon

You're leaving too soon
You oughta try believin' just for a day or two
You're tryin' to be wise and that's a foolish thing to do
Close the door
You're leaving too soon
You'll never learn to fly unless you learn to fall
You'll never know the answers 'till you've heard the call
You can't turn your back until you face it all
Take my word
You're leaving too soon
You're leaving too soon
You oughta try believin' just for a day or two
You're tryin' to be wise and that's a foolish thing to do
Close the door
You're leaving to soon
Babe you shouldn't go until you know just what I mean
Now, "happy ever after", I have never seen
But still we might come closer than we've ever been
Come over here
You're leavin' too soon
You're leavin' too soon
You oughta try believin' just for a day or two
You're tryin' to be wise and that's a foolish thing to do
Close the door
You're leaving too soon
You're leaving too soon

Jane O'Grady

Grey old lady, sat by the sea
With her nimble fingers, weaving,
Jane O’Grady, seventy three
In the world that she was leaving.
Hummed sweet honey from virgin lips
In the way of the wind, sad-sighing,
Carried the song from her fingertips
To the day that she lay dying.

Shuttle sang in the early breeze
To the tune of life’s sweet sorrow:
“God, I’m weary of weaving love,
But I’ll not be here tomorrow.”

Grey old lady, worked with a will
On the shawl of life’s sweet pattern,
Fingers stilled in the dawning chill
As the world turned once too often.
Nevermore will she weave the love
That we borrowed, all unknowing,
Only the rags of the hand-me-downs
With the grey wind blowing.

Star of Bethlehem

‘Will you come again? ’
I asked you that evening
Your steps moved silently
Towards the door
The setting sun by then
Stealthily entered through
The door ajar
All set to grab you
The floor under my feet
Felt damp
Dusk, gathering its shadows

The question silently repeated
As silently as the stars that
Revealed themselves
On the fading sky

You turned your head
Standing one step
Outside the door
Your eyes twinkled
As those stars

Hope hoisted
A star-like flag…

The Colors Of Human!

hands black as soot,
my feet are red....
my eyes are green,

my hair turned grey.
my soul is Asian,
my spirit Native American....

my hard working dedication,
........Hispanic.....
my people come from Ireland,

and some from Africa....
anywhere where the persecuted,
.... cut and fled!

working in the fields,
the factories, and even the mines....
cutting wood, milking cows,

working for the man.
i am human!
and i'm damn tired

of being used!

In The Darkness

Why am I here now
What have I done
Running on empty - I got nowhere to run
Cant get an answer
Cant get it right
Just try to make it
till the end of the night
Is there a way to avoid doing wrong
Lead me away from the darkness
Light up my day show me where I belong
Please dont leave me all alone in the darkness
Far in the distance
There is night, there is day
Sounds are waving nets of dismay
Sometimes Im stuck in a shocking delay
Like in a slow motion movie
Im reaching out for something to hold
Life slips away in the cold - in the cold
My heart is so cold - my heart is so cold
Why was I turned down
Whats going on
I wish there was something that could have been done
How can I get there
Where is the light
How can I make it
till the end of the night
How can I turn darkness to light
Leaving my fear in the darkness
Is there a way how can I overcome
My restless nights and my fear - and my fear
In the darkness - in the darkness - in the darkness

On a Brisk Summer Evening

On a brisk summer evening,
I was sitting on my couch,
Watching the television
With my windows open.
Distracted for a bit,
I turned my head to look
Upon the clouds,
Noticing a flock of jets
Stream through the sky,
Leaving clouded fumes
In their passing,
Looking like comets
Trailing down the horizon
Toward the sunset.
I turned my head back toward the TV,
And I saw the planes again,
Flying over where I had just been looking,
Repeating what I had just seen
With someone else's commentary
And context—
As if I were viewing
Someone else's dream.

A dead world

as thy light turned to darkness
As thy world to black from blue
As thy eyes turned from bright to dull
And thy lust for blood became strong

As thy hair turned blood red
As thy clothes turned to black
As thy hands, feet became clawed
And thy lust for blood became strong

As thy people died with red, black
As thy city, town destroyed
As thy hunt for her started
And thy lust for blood became strong

The world died, so did I...

Strangers

(bobby braddock)
Two strangers passing on the sidewalk
Barely brush each others hand
He says Im sorry
She says dont worry
And that is how it all began
A few short days and night together
And its like they were meant to be
Lying there with her he softly whispers
Just think what we were so recently
Strangers, strangers
The world greatest lovers
Last week we were strangers
Two strangers passing in the hallway
Barely touch each others heart
Now theyre pretending
Two shadows blending
But theyre a million miles apart
Soon shell be packing up her suitcase
Theyll be dividing all the blame
They know how they started
Now empty hearted
They dont have a clue how they became
Strangers, strangers
The world greatest lovers
And now they are strangers
The worlds greatest lovers
Have turned into strangers
Strangers, strangers

Perhaps We Are Then.... (Part Two)

or...
perhaps we are then,
old green glass marbles,
in a metal bucket.
the old worn bra,
drawing disability on the shelf.
imaginary cowboys,
and cardboard saviours.
moondust sold at a county fair!
oil dripping from a broke down car.
spiders living in boxes
full of old photographs.
the guitar that needs strings,
and the half written letter.
the coffee turned cold,
and the spicket turned grey!
words never quite born,
the face wrinkled with age.
black things hidden in shadows,
that have both names and memories!

Just Not True

(carly simon)
You stick to me when I wish you gone
You hammer on my thoughts through dreams
Your plot is thick with saucy schemes
And ways to reach my balconies
But I say Im not turned on by the way you look
I say Im not turned on by the way you act
Im not turned on when you tell me that you need me
But sometimes, just sometimes
You can see the softness in my eyes
And you know, its just not true
Youre in my blood, a holy ghost
I scream, but its a hollow plea
The thoughts I swallow leave me thirsty
You do a very fine imitation of me
And I say Im not turned on by the way you laugh
Im not turned on by the way you smile
Im not turned on when you tell me that you love me
But sometimes, just sometimes
You can see the softness in my eyes
And you know, its just not true
And I say Im not turned on by the way you dance
Im not turned on my the way you laugh
Im not turned on when you need me
But sometimes, just sometimes
You can see the softness in my eyes
And you know, its just not true.

The Return

They turned him loose; he bowed his head,
A felon, bent and grey.
His face was even as the Dead,
He had no word to say.

He sought the home of his old love,
To look on her once more;
And where her roses breathed above,
He cowered beside the door.

She sat there in the shining room;
Her hair was silver grey.
He stared and stared from out the gloom;
He turned to go away.

Her roses rustled overhead.
She saw, with sudden start.
"I knew that you would come," she said,
And held him to her heart.

Her face was rapt and angel-sweet;
She touched his hair of grey;

. . . . .

But he, sob-shaken, at her feet,
Could only pray and pray.

Leave

Its amazing
How you make your face just like a wall
How you take your heart and turn it off
How I turn my head and lose it all
Its unnerving
How just one move puts me by myself
There you go just trusting someone else
Now I know I put us both through hell
Im not saying there wasnt nothing wrong
I just didnt think youd ever get tired of me
Im now saying we ever had the right to hold on
I just didnt wanna let it get away from me
But if thats how its gonna leave
Straight out from underneath
Then well see whos sorry now
If thats how its gonna stand, when
You know youve been depending on
The one youre leaving now
The one youre leaving out
Its aggravating
How you threw me on and you tore me out
How your good intentions turn to doubt
The way you needed time to sort it out
Im not saying there wasnt nothing wrong
I just didnt think youd ever get tired of me
Im now saying we ever had the right to hold on
I just didnt wanna let it get away from me
But if thats how its gonna leave
Straight out from underneath
Then well see whos sorry now
If thats how its gonna stand, when
You know youve been depending on
The one youre leaving now
The one youre leaving out
The one youre leaving now

But if thats how its gonna leave
Straight out from underneath
Then well see whos sorry now
If thats how its gonna stand, when
You know youve been depending on
The one youre leaving now
The one youre leaving out
Tell me is that how its going to end
When you know youve been depending on
The one youre leaving now
And the one youre leaving out
The one youre leaving now
The one youre leaving out
