Perhaps We Are Then.... (Part Two)

or...
perhaps we are then,
old green glass marbles,
in a metal bucket.
the old worn bra,
drawing disability on the shelf.
imaginary cowboys,
and cardboard saviours.
moondust sold at a county fair!
oil dripping from a broke down car.
spiders living in boxes
full of old photographs.
the guitar that needs strings,
and the half written letter.
the coffee turned cold,
and the spicket turned grey!
words never quite born,
the face wrinkled with age.
black things hidden in shadows,
that have both names and memories!

Full Of You

Cardboard boxes on the floor
They contain memories and so much more
Black and white photographs
Faded now but I remember how we laughed
Theres nothing left for me to do
Ive an empty house, full of you
Pour myself a glass of wine
Let it breathe but I dont give it too much time
Take another and set it down
I kid myself theres nobody else around
Theres nothing left for me to do
Ive an empty glass, full of you
But let me tell you baby
I cant fight the feeling
I never stopped believing
You were coming back to me
I hear footsteps by the door
Could it be theres nothing else that I want more
There you stand in front of me
I see your face my heart has wings you set me free
Theres nothing left for me to do
Now my empty heart, is full of you
But let me tell you baby
I cant fight the feeling
I never stopped believing
You were coming back to me
Let me tell you darling
Never did I doubt you
I cant live without you
Its so good youre back with me

Clouds In My Coffee

(dieter bohlen)
Producer for bonnie: dieter bohlen
Oh do you remember the moment
When the sky turned to a sad shade of grey
As darkness crept over the ocean
Then you turned - to walk away
I looked to the place at the table
Your face - no longer Id see
The reflection I saw in your coffee
Was a bitter reflection of me
*clouds in my coffee
And tears in my heart
Thats what Im feeling
Youve torn me apart
Clouds in my coffee
It could be a dream
But as you walk away
Its all I can see
I still remember the feeling
As the night woke up to the dawn
To awake and realise the meaning
What my eyes had focused upon
These rooms so cold and so empty
Just spaces where photographs were
The echoing silence assured me
That you really were no longer here
*repeat

This Old Guitar And Me

This old guitar and me
And the things that we've been through
C.F. Martin built him
Back in nineteen fourty-two.
I remember when we met
I was only seventeen
I spent all my college money
On a half a dozen strings.
I thought my folks would kill me
I found out I was wrong
They said your future's written on your face
When you sing those travelin' songs.
So we headed for Kentucky
With a suitcase full of dreams
My rough-out books, a few t-shirts
A worn out pair of jeans.
Ooh.
This old guitar and me
We spent a lot of nights alone
Well, sometimes we'd get lucky
And take bar maid home.
One night stands for breakfast
Two strangers with the blues
We'd wake up in the morning
And both feel a little used.
Well, home was just a highway
We'd roam from town to town
Just me and that old flattop
Not caring where we're bound.
>From Maine to California
With a five piece travelin' band
Singin' songs about the hard times
That face the common man.
Ooh.
This old guitar and me
Lord, we did the best we could
One was born a sinner
And one a piece of wood.
God sent a wooden angel
To guide me on my way
We were meant to be together
Until my dyin' day.
Well, now my dearest old companion
Lies underneath my bed
Well, our travelin' days are over
Man, but the memories fill my head.
Well, I've settled with my family
Here in the hills of Tennessee
To teach my children's children
'Bout this old guitar and me.
Ooh...

Shore Leave Ornithology

Slacks, coffee trend
I could have been in the us navy
Flapping grey, coffee smoke
I could have been in another nineteen-fifty
Where the hell were you?
Rough stencil, print music
Cardboard, cardboard, cardboard, cardboard, cardboard coffee
Saxophone mention barbers, n.y.
The cigarette was burning, the flat shoes
Stool
Bongo, coffee, don't mention that black man
The leather-coat was his
Where was she?
Could have been in the us navy
Flow beating air, table-top, shoulder slung
Shore leave, no sailors here
Cardboard, cardboard, cardboard, cardboard
Liquor slacks twisting
The cigarette was burning
The flat shoes, the flat shoes, the flat shoes
Bird, bird, bird, bird
I could have been in another nineteen-fifty
Bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird
Bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird
I could have been in another nineteen-fifty
Bird, bird, bird

Liturgy....

liturgy....
black coffee,
old hands opening boxes.
sweeping the floor
of the soul.
words shaped like photographs
made of wind and tears.
simple things...
simple doings!

the same shovel
digs the grave,
digs in the garden.
barefoot,
and half naked,
no need for words,
no fears to console.
live without regrets,
leave it all on the table.
do the work, and move on.

dont be the hollow religious image,
a body that has no love,
a love that has no body.
dont be so quick to wash your hands,
the dirt neath your nails
is your heritage!
liturgy...
black coffee,
and touching,
the shovel, and the axe!

Out of the Blue A Patch of Green

-****Rousseau alleged to have used
a pallette of a hundred and some-odd
different greens
in one painting********
-------------------------

There was an empty table
Next to mine
She walked by dressed in green
Holding her coffee she took a spare chair
Then sat down her back to me

She got my attention
My guess was
She was not
Encouraging nor
Expecting company

After the green hit me
Came the pleasent smell
Over the roasting coffee
It was like in the cartoons
When the drawing of the scent

Comes under the guy's nose
Lifts him off his seat
He floats acrosss the room
Led by his nose
By the visable wafts

Who knows what scent it was
I suppose there are some
Who can tell and know its name
All I knew
It was pulling on me

Back to the green in the chair
Darker green at the seams
Slacks lighter green
Leather jacket and
Shoes both different green

Tail of a sweater
Below back of the jacket
Damn another darker green
I wish I had names
for all these greens

Ankles are barely showing
A light tan do they still call it hose
A beige I guess
Probably has a better
Brand name I also don't know

I'm writing this down
As fast as I can
I was working on other stuff
But this is too good to forget
Living in the moment observing

I was thinking
This green is going
To be gone soon
I'm almost out of writing paper
To describe anything more

My coffee's getting cold
What's she here for
To be seen
To just drink coffee
Pass the time until

I look up the green is gone
All I'm left with is
A cold cup of coffee
And this
For you to read

Summers Gone

Crack and break, lifes big mistake,
Im feeling it too, theres no way home.
The summers gone,
The summers gone away.
Back down to earth, a conscience burst,
Im feeling it too, just slipped away.
The summers gone,
The love has gone,
The sun has gone away,
Away
Its turned to grey, just burned away,
A moment too soon, weve turned to grey...
Just like yesterday,
Its turned to black and white.
Cold as stone, no contact known
Youre feeling it too, as thoughts decay.
The summers gone, the colours gone,
The sun has gone away
Its turned to grey, just burned away,
A moment too soon, weve turned to grey,
Just like yesterday,
Its turned to black and white.
Oh, youre thinking back, youre going back to places that youve been,
Where days could last forever, but you can only dream,
Oh, were going back Im looking back to places that weve seen,
Moments that have been, places we can dream.
Crash and break, lifes big mistake,
Youre feeling it too, just slipped away.
The love has gone,
The summers gone away.
Its turned to grey, just burned away,
A moment too soon, weve turned to grey,
Just like yesterday, yesterday
Its turned to grey, just burned away,
A moment too soon, weve turned to grey,
Just like yesterday, yesterday...

Nicklin’s Torment

I woke up in a cold sweat
and turned on the light.
A shadow was moving over me,
cast by a spider of the night.

By the time I’d blinked
it’d vanished from view,
but then I saw a larger one,
followed by another two.

I closed my eyes for a moment
hoping they would disappear.
When I slowly reopened them
the bedroom was spider clear.

With my hand I mopped my brow
and then saw several more,
they were crawling on the ceiling
and marching across the floor.

I told myself that I was dreaming
or suffering from withdrawal,
but that didn’t stop the spiders
from crawling up the wall.

Sweat dripping from my brow
was stinging in my eyes.
Spiders were now on my bed
at my feet and on my thighs.

The whole room was full of spiders,
on the ceiling, walls, and floor.
My bed was covered and so was I.
I screamed stop! But out came even more.

Spiders crawling on top of spiders,
in my mouth, nose and ears,
their scary eyes staring into mine,
I was choking with utter fear.

I tried in vain to fight them off,
but my hand didn’t move a one.
I must have blacked out just then,
when I awoke they had all gone.

Things are becoming better now
and the spiders are getting less.
I’m told they’ll eventually go for good,
along with my shakes, thirst, and mess.

We Have Been Men (For Juan, And For Me!)

we learn...
somewhere in chapters
written in dust, ...
with temples turned grey,
and tired sunset eyes.
leaving tiny fragments of heart,
spread in the darkness...
to become fireflies for the poor.
with bent backs testifying,
and well worn boots.
love turned to echoes,
drawing blood from the veins.
simple hands working silently,
weaving on the master loom.
leaving only the scent of our passing,
for strangers to comb.
having lived and given,
and nothing more asked.
we turn with gratitude to the door,
and tip our hats to the night!
we have been men,
and now we are more!

Time

Written by: james henman
When we so much younger girl
I use to laugh and call you names
But now I found myself much older
I cant find no one else to blame
I remember times I tried to lead you
But you never come my way
And when I promised you tomorrow
You were lost for things to say
A time has really turned around
Time has let me down
Time has really turned around
Time has let me down
Takin pictures from my window
I thought Id take a few of you
Time has skipped across my shoulder
And now I have nothin left I can do
Time has let me down
Time has really turned around
Time has let me down
Time has really turned around

Mask of My Heart

As the cloud went to black
We lost our way back
As the sun set to night
No smiles of something bright

Lonely the moon bounced the starlight
When blood became cold as frostbite
Bleeding inside till black from red
Let the honesty fainted bed

They broke words of silent voices
Without harm with many chances
Never to see the truth
Nor then to face the truth

All remained invisible sight
Black blocked the white to face to light
Broken the heart of smiling face
When sense was gone no eyes to gaze

It turned into the silent noise
Black without smile and cheer but voice
Whispering tears dropped inside heart
It hurt it broke Mask of my heart

Wish You Were Here

So
So you think you can tell
Heaven from hell
Blue skys from grey
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail
A smile from a veil
Yeah do you think you can tell
Did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts
Hot ashes for trees
Hot air for a cool breeze
Cold comfort for change
Yeah and did you exchange
A walk on part in this war
For a leading role in a cage
How I wish, how I wish you were here
Were just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Were running over the same old ground
What have we found
The same old fears
Well I wish you were here
I said I wish you were here yeah
Oh how I wish you were here
How I wish you were here
Hey and I wish you were here
Hey my rock star
How did you get so turned around
My rock star
How you did you get so turned around
Oh my rock star
(how did you get so turned around)
Did you get so turned around
Hey my my rock star
(how did you get so turned around
Inside out
Cut it all out now
Cut it all out now
Cut it all out now
Cut it all out now
Cut it out now
Cut it out now
Cut it out now
Cut it out now
Cut it all out now
Cut it all out now
Cut it all out

Spiders In The Night

Spiders in the night
Creeping round the walls
Now you'll feel him
Crawling over you

Creepy crawly things
Filling up your bed
Soon you'll feel him
Crawling through your brains

You think he's there
Beware his bite
But when you look
The spider's not in sight

Spiders reappear
Taking peoples names
Everything is taken down insane

There's no way out
And there's no key
But here's a clue
The spider's really me

You're written in his book
The spider won't forget
You won't forget
The spiders in the night

The end is going night
Itsy witsy friends
The spiders disappearing from the night

You think he's gone
You think he's dead
There's no escape
The spiders in your head

All the spiders in the night
All the spiders in the night
All the spiders in the night

Hiding the Edge

Running from me is tedious and often difficult
Because I see more crossroads than I should
Trying to cut the circle so it has a start and an end
I often rattle things that are strange and offend
Standing still while showering in a cold déjà vu
Thoughts at random deliver things I never knew

Hiding behind expressions and smiles untrue
Easy conversation covers the real things I do
With practice I'm the perfect magician in the light
While in darkness I find memories that I rewrite
Colorful chips of glass collected but definitely broken
Can never be surrendered to recycle for a token

Then sometimes bright mornings become dark nights
And I feel the rhythm of words spoken as last rites
Like waves of sadness shatter on sharp cliffs ahead
I struggle to find reason for the loss and the dead
Memories forgotten surface and become swiftly true
Right then I just live and smile while existing in view

The grey circle around my heart may turn black or white
Depending if I can face the sun and things are alright
Or if shadows silently hidden swallow all sound and love
Days appear at random and that - I am afraid to speak of
So - on some days better than on others I smile and chat
Not showing that I swim against the current like in combat

Sleeping Alone

sleeping alone...
tastes like burnt wood chips,
three days after the fire.
yesterday's cold cup of coffee,
spider webs, and bones.
metal shavings,
and empty boxes.
bullets on the shelf.
the broken edge of the cup,
blood on the tip of the tongue.
dust, and brown leaves,
the first winter freeze.
sleeping alone...
tastes like death!

Mother's Hair Has Turned To Silver

Mother's hair has turned to silver
Her skin is all wrinkled and cold
But i'd never trade my mother
For the world and all its gold. Yes her hair has turned to silver
Her face is all covered with lines
But there'll never be another
Like this gray haired mother of mine. I think of all the hardships
I have caused her to bare
Then I can see the reasons
For the silver in her hair. Mother's hair has turned to silver
And her hard working days are done
But there's still a smile on her face
And a love for everyone.

American Storm

Words and music by bob seger
Headin out on some uncharted path
You soon turn back
It happens time and time again
You never seem to reach the end
Someones out there on the street tonight
When things go wrong
Hell guarantee to make them right
If the price is right
Every time I look youre fallin fallin
Beaten by the wind
Every time I turn around hes there again
Its like a full force gale
An american storm
Youre buried far beneath a mountain of cold
And you never get warm
Its like a wall of mirrors
You charge 'em at full speed
You cover up - you hear the shattering glass
But you never bleed
You never feel the need
Everybody casts a certain light
A special gift
Its theirs to use for wrong or right
When you face the night
More and more we choose the easy way
We take no risks
We figure out which games to play
And how to make em pay
Suddenly the pressures fallin fallin
Skies have all turned grey
Suddenly the storm is heading straight your way
Its like a full force gale
Atop a mountain of cold
You tell your story again and again
And it never gets old
Its like a wall of mirrors
You charge em at full speed
You cover up - you hear the shattering glass
But you never bleed
You face a full force gale
An american storm
Youre buried beneath a mountain of cold
And you never get warm - no you never get warm
You face a wall of mirrors
You charge em at full speed
You cover up - you hear the shattering glass
But you never bleed
You never feel the need

Love Ain't Nothing But A Four Letter Word

She was waiting alone at the station praying for her train to arrive
Thinking bout her destination, the tattered bag had all she had in life
She turned her back on her family, she turned her back on her friends
She turned her back on a married man when she took off that wedding band
She said, Im giving up, silver clouds have turned to grey
Had enough, theres got to be a better way
Giving up, you know youve gotta walk
Theres some things in life still worth fighting for
Aint no big secret so forget all you heard
Love aint nothing but a four-letter word
For some its for better, for some its for worse
Love aint nothing but a four-letter word
Love aint nothing
This time he said was the last time, last time he said just the same
In your heart you know that theyll be a next time
That your battered bones would have to explain
Givin up, nothings changing but the score
Had enough, every night love turns to war
Give it up, gave it all and wanted more
It aint nothing worth dying for
Its no big secret so forget all you heard
Love aint nothing but a four-letter word
For some its a blessing, for some its a curse
Love aint nothing but a four-letter word
Love aint nothing
Forget your mamas rosary beads to get you through this time of need
You know you gotta cross that line
You take it one day at a time
Had enough, the silver clouds all turning grey
Im heading for a better day
No big secret so forget all you heard
Love aint nothing but a four-letter word
For some its for better, for some its for worse
Love aint nothing but a four-letter word
Love aint nothing (it aint nothing now, baby)
Love aint nothing but a four-letter word
Love aint nothing (nothing now, baby)
Love aint nothing but a four-letter word
Love aint nothing (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Love aint nothing but a four-letter word
Love aint nothing...
