Just Beyond Touch!

your seminal lips,
swollen, quiver....
pajama bound,

light turning on the bottle,
cigarette ashe falling
to the floor....

you smell like me,
or woodsmoke hanging

in the autumnal chill...
frost on the windows,
the door locked and bolted....

a pair of old boots
sit alone on the porch.
moonlight, and you....

just beyond touch!

Mailbox!

frost on the hawk's wings,
small face against the glass;
or perhaps just a memory,

black coffee and cigarette smoke.
bare limbed trees walk beside me,
down the path to the road....

mailbox hanging open,
only cobwebs in the damp.
the porch light still on,

like a ghostly lighthouse,
calling back things you've forgotten,
that i go through every day!

What a pair of beautifull lips!

What a pair of beautiful lips!
Full of sap, tight and deeps
Specially the lower ones,
And runs in between
A curve line very thin and fine,
A prominent and very artistic
Statistic mystic and fantastic,
With bright red small lines
Spread as the branches of veins
As clear as mountain snow pristine
A pack of honey a bottle of wine,
A legume of an orange a swollen pod
A plum, a hanging grape, a dripping drop.
I was a fool, a buffoon suddenly taken aback,
My mind and eyes played with me a nasty trick
It was neither a beautiful pair nor a single lip,
But of a beautiful tree a beautiful leaf.

A Season To Be Jolly, A Season To Be Bright

Snow is falling
on the hills and the glens;
it looks like a white Christmas
will be with us again.
All the old songs
will be playing once more.
There will be carol singers
going from door to door.
Popcorn will be strung
around the tree,
along with mince tarts
and all the party fare.
We’ll look out the windows
at the winter wonderland,
as snowflakes will drift
down from the sky.
Jack Frost will decorate
the windows each night;
candles will burn
until the morning light.
A season to be jolly,
a season to be bright.
As Christmas will soon
be within everyone’s sight.

Frost

Frost covers fallen bridges,
As it does the ones that stand.
The whiteness settles overywhere.
It's gone when I touch your hand.

The morning is when we see the frost,
Yet we know it came the night before.
I've been awake, still it has come;
Quiet and cold to our locked door.

We have watched frost go.
Have you ever seen it start,
As it wanders up the gulch
And slinks into our hearts?

Then there's always morninig,
Or you suppose ther'll always be.
The sun the frost is melting
As we go on, you and me.

We need to talk more when it's forming,
Not just be glad when it's gone,
For, unlike flowers, we seen to wither,
Warmed only by the dawn.

Wish my pain was a cigarette

Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have been touch by you

Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have had the comfort of your hand

Wish my pain was a cigarette,
I would have been on your lips

Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have been consumed with time

Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have ended in an ashtray

Wish my pain was a cigarette,
It would have been thrown away

Indian Sunset

As I awoke the evening with the smell of woodsmoke clinging.
Like a gentle cobweb hanging upon a painted teepee.
Oh I wen to see my chieftain with my war lance and my woman.
For he told us that the yellow moon would very soon me leaving.

This I can't believe I said

Sonnet LXXXI: Memorial Thresholds

What place so strange,—though unrevealèd snow
With unimaginable fires arise
At the earth's end,—what passion of surprise
Like frost-bound fire-girt scenes of long ago?
Lo! this is none but I this hour; and lo!
This is the very place which to mine eyes
Those mortal hours in vain immortalize,
'Mid hurrying crowds, with what alone I know.
City, of thine a single simple door,
By some new Power reduplicate, must be
Even yet my life-porch in eternity,
Even with one presence filled, as once of yore:
Or mocking winds whirl round a chaff-strown floor
Thee and thy years and these my words and me.

My hands shake while I turn the car on

Against the fogged car window
my fingers call to the outside
while you walk away
tossing away the past, of years long.

There’s a chill folding around you
while you are holding yourself brave,
lifting your head in a recalcitrant way
and my hart is still calling to you

and you believe that every clicking clacking step
gives you greater freedom
and I have loved you in vain
and you walk away to your studio

pulling the door bolted locked tight
as you have already decided
to ward off the world and life
and my hands shake while I turn the car on.

I Like Smells

i like smells...
woodsmoke, and food,
black coffee in the morning.
the smell of rain,
of mud, of wetness.
the smell of the walls
of the cave, of the stone,
of the moss...
the smell of sex, of arousal,
of a woman's neck.
the smell of pine needles,
of an old house,
of fresh turned earth...
the smell of old books,
of old dogs, of shadows
without form...
i've even become accustomed
to the smell of death!

Gold-tipped Boots, Black Jacket & Tie

Im banered and bruised. I got lines I cant use.
My head wont deliver. well, Im sold down the river.
But Im turning again.
Yes, 'n Im turning again.
Well, Im turning again.
And Im turning again.
Wearing gold-tipped boots, black jacket and tie.
Well, Ive been second to none:
This horse was ready to run.
Now Im has-been and used:
Disarmed and de-fused
But Im turning again.
And Im turning again.
Yes, 'n Im turning again.
Im turning again.
Wearing gold-tipped boots, black jacket and tie.
Im egg over-easy
And Im washing-up squeezy.
Appliance for sale:
Fat wind in my sail
And Im turning again.
Yes, 'n Im turning again.
Well, Im turning again.
Yes, 'n Im turning again.
Wearing gold-tipped boots, black jacket and tie.
Well, Im turning again.

Nowhere Lane

we are...
the ink barely dried
on the page,
the cup chipped
on the windowsill.
wood stacked against
the porch,
the shadows on the
empty swing.
the kiss lost,
and the ring.
red dirt dried
on the shovel,
the old boots left
by the door.
the creaking of the
screen door opening,
the box tied and
packed away.
hunger sap dried
on novel sheets,
the half smoked cigarette
lying in the ashtray.
the sound of the empty room,
in that old house on nowhere lane!

These Sweet Souvenirs

I had long remembered those sweet memories
The day we settled to Virginia hangs in my mind like
The new season of fall with colorful leaves
And October's cool Fall.
Over the porch scorched by October sunshine,
We sit and watch the window
Him forty years gone, my sister sat on
The couch with lot of toys, frost of black in
Her hair and morns the cries that echo her sleep
For years it stood by my parent's brown
Front door, and during their last, uncertain year
My mouth dry, heart beating, hands shaking, I wake up from deep sleep
And reach for green watch tell me
It is 12 pm mid-night and in the dim bulk light I notice
The bed that also hold my parent's radio, lamp,
An indentation on the top closet from a cigarette
He placed there and forgot
In the fogginess of evening and drink
Now, thirty years later, my dad was not longer in the earth
My mom is in the grave.
What we need, alone and in the dark.

Left After The Storm

love is the scar
left after the storm....
the light in the window

the falling branch broke,
the ashes drowned by rain
after the fire....

my hand on your breast,
the moment without words,
that hangs on the clock

like the hour never struck.
the sweet whiskey of your lips,
pressed tight, then yielding....

the leaves on the porch,
blown like a stranger to the door....
the box of pictures,

buried in the closet, .....
'neath old coats and goodwill
clothes, folded and wrinkled....

your legs wrapped around
a sudden strike of lightning....
the way you smell....

dressed in sleep!

The Kind of Falling

There is this kind of falling
that is free, and it does
not think of any floor
or end, the trip continues
down and down
and darker and darker

you close your hands
and put them on
the side of your
hips, and you keep
on waiting about the
expected

deadly impact, you want
it done
and done so quickly

for years this free falling
has been with you
and you are into this
feeling always

where to
and when and what
and why

it's been like this from
the beginning
no floors no ceiling
no walls now
and all the doors
are closed

except the windows of course
that you keep on seeing
there is the wind
that keeps on going and going
passing through and through
inside your heart

the freedom of falling
it is here always inside your heart
you are numb
and there is nothing difficult to understand

letting go and just this feeling of falling
the consolation is that

you are always on top of things
explains, thus, this falling

for why should i fall? i ask sometimes.
thanks God, i must be up here, and there is no end to this tunnel

let me see, let me see the light, with you.

Beyond The Veil.....

nothing lives here anymore.
they closed that tiny bookstore,
and the bar on the corner is gone.
the sidewalks swept and empty,
windows covered with dust.
would be lovers ride by radios blaring,
cell phones grafted to their ears.
no one makes love anymore,
masturbation detoxification.
crows hanging on the brick walls,
apartment doors bolted and locked.
caught a meth lab in the church basement,
and they've cut down all the trees.
no one jumps from windows,
babies born in sterile rooms.
tongues lie dormant in desire's mouth,
perfume suffocates the senses.
the threat of rain, everybody scatters,
for fear of getting wet!
cept the old blind man walking his dog,
who sees beyond the veil!

Which Side Do You Belong To?

i hear the cry of the hawk and the rabbit,
i feel the talons tearing flesh.
i smell gunpowder, and bodies burning,
i hear the sound of boots on the road.
the groan of the tanks turning without faces,
the buzz of the drones flying above.
the mechanical order, as life is destroyed,
the cry of babies on their mother's dead breasts.
the mourning sisters who bury their brothers.
light making shadows on all the colors of skin.
the shout of the flags, the bowls left empty.
the bolt of the rifle, the knife slid from the sheath,
the sound of the falling just before impact.
the cry for freedom on the lips of the martyr.
the pages of the holy book turned down forever.
the prayer of justice over equality's grave.
the soldiers of poverty who fought against all odds.
the sound of dead elders drawing in their breath.
the wind named liberty howling and lost.
the fingers of the child touching dead lips.
the song of the bruise, the scar, and the dream.
the smell of flesh bartered for hope.
the last drink of daylight, the dark night unending.
the face of eternity in slivers of moonlight.
the star of humanity falling from the sky.
the presence of god, and the absence of presence.
the mountains crumbling, the rivers gone dry.
the last trees walking into the distance.
the sound of the chisel carving in stone,
the last tear wept by the shadow called being.
and i turn and i stand in the name of dignity,
holding in my hands the pages of history.
the moment lost to vast infinity...
saying, tis now, or never,
truth counts the cost...
which side do you belong to?

A bottle of snow

The sky was grey
the ground was damp
all was cold
and on the grass
laid a bottle of snow

A thick brown sweeter
a thin leather glove
a pair of warm mittens
and a bottle of snow

I sat by the fireplace
a cup of chocolate beside me
and on the floor
laid a bottle of snow

The sky turned blue
the ground sprouted green
warmth was back
and in my hand
was a bottle of snow

Thats Not How It Is

I woke up in bed last night when something came upon me
I was not lying there alone but Ive never felt so lonely
Somethings come between us, girl feels like weve hit a wall
How can I know just how you feel when we dont touch at all
This no communication thing is quickly growing old
This isolation booth Im in is dark and turning cold
I used to steal your breath away with just one little kiss
Me and you, we were so in love back then but thats not how it is
But Id catch moonlight in a bottle if we could drink a toast to happiness
Fill my pickup bed with roses and back it right up to your door
Id write your name in candy kisses from here to carolina
If you change your mind and love me like before but thats not how it is
I have tossed and turned and rolled it over in my mind
Not knowing all the questions make the answers hard to find
I think Ive covered everything but still theres something that Ive missed
I used to read you baby like a book but thats not how it is
But Id catch moonlight in a bottle if we could drink a toast to happiness
Fill my pickup bed with roses and back it right up to your door
Id write your name in candy kisses from here to carolina
If you change your mind and love me like before but thats not how it is
Id write your name in candy kisses from here to carolina
If you change your mind and love me like before but thats not how it is

Thru These Walls

I can hear thru these walls
I can hear it when theyre foolin around
I can hear thru these walls
And I hear evry sign, evry sound
I can hear thru these walls
In the dark with the shades pulled down
Evry word that they say
Evry noise they make feels its coming my way
My favrite moment
Putting the glass up next to the wall
Imagination
Tho I see nothing, I hear it all
Putting my sign up
Do not disturb me, speak or shout, inside out
Oh mind my clothes, theyre all laid out
I can see thru my windows
I can see the girls and the boys
I can see thru my windows
And I can imagine the noise
I can see thru my windows
I can see them playing with toys
Oh I hope it wont end
If I promise not to touch, just be a friend
Life is so lonely
I dont get high off just being me
I like pretending
Wanting to touch them, wanting to see
Its only normal
Creeping behind you, now dont shout, cos its alright
They keep the windows locked and the door shut tight
Oo Im feeling like Im locked in a cage
No way in, no way out, and it gets so lonely
Am I really asking a lot
Just to reach out and touch somebody
cos when I look thru my windows or open my door
I can feel it all around me
I can hear thru these walls
I can hear it when theyre foolin around
I can hear thru these walls
And I hear evry sight, evry sound
I can hear thru these walls
In the dark with the shades pulled down
Evry word that they say
Evry noise they make feels its coming my way
Ah yeah...
