Dark And Hungry
Dark and hungry,
i grope for your mouth,
swallowing lava burnt air,
lips blistered with prayer.
ducks quacking in flight,
Nickels and dimes in the ashtray...
a song on the radio,
cant remember the name.
hands shake just a little,
unbuttoning your shirt.
a small trail of sweat
between your breasts disappears.
You breathing in gasps,
or not breathing at all....
slide my hand to your longing,
tilt your head, close your eyes...
Grey clouds on the horizon,
miles go by without markers...
two horses in the pasture
not yet victims to time.

Nickels And Dimes
I used to stand on a corner when i was a child
And i'd play my guitar and sing as the people went by
The sidewalks were crowded but i'd just sing louder cause i didn't mind
Just spending my time, spinning my rhymes and singing for nickels and dimes
Nickels and dimes a song at a time for nickels and dimes
I'd brighten their day as they go on their way and they'd brighten mine
A sidewalk rehearsal for dreams that i held in my mind
I knew that someday in my own special i'd repay all their nickels and dimes
I recall the sidewalk each night as i stand on the stage
As i play my guitar and sing for the people who paid
Cause i finally made it to what they all call the big time
But i still remember i still owe some nickels and dimes
Nickels and dimes a song at a time for nickels and dimes
A sidewalk rehearsal for dreams that i held in my mind
So if you remember a child on the corner of time
You'll know that i wrote this to repay your nickels and dimes

Nickels And Dimes And Love
Remember when pocket change was all we had
And all those calls from the corner phonebooth
Collect to Mom and Dad
And that old worn out couch we called our bed
When our cuisine was pork and beans
Baloney and day old bread
Remember that damn old car that kept breaking down
And all the times it left me stranded
Thumbing all over town
And that old weekly paycheck
Just never stretched enough
Back in the times of nickels and dimes and love
Together we sure made some dreams come true
Sometimes it wasn't easy
But somehow we made it through
And when I get to thinking times are tough
I remember the times
Of nickels and dimes and love
Oh those good old times
Of nickels and dimes and love
Remember digging through your old purses in hopes we'd get
Enough change for an RC cola or a pack of cigarettes
Now we've got almost everything
That we were dreaming of
Back in the times
Of nickels and dimes and love
Together we sure made some dreams come true
Sometimes it wasn't easy
But somehow we made it through
And when I get to thinking times are tough
I remember the times
Of nickels and dimes and love
Oh those good old times
Of nickels and dimes and love
Do you remember those times

Before Choir One Friday Eve
Before choir practice
before entering
the vestry door
you and Judith
stayed behind
and waited until
the others
had gone inside
and Judith said
look at those stars
and how dark blue
the sky is
you gazed up
at the evening spread
of dark blue
and stars
and moon
to one side
and you put
your hand
around her waist
and drew her close
and she lay
against you
and you said
I read some place
that some
of those distant stars
burned out
centuries ago
and what we see
is the ghostly glow
of dead stars
and she turned your head
towards her
and kissed you
and the pressing
of her lips on yours
and her hands
on your waist
and her 13 year old
breasts pushing
against your
14 year old chest
and the sound
of the choir starting up
in practice in the church
and the flight of bats
across
the evening sky
and she holding you near
and the lips engaged
and the eyes closed
and the breathing
taken in
coming up for air
and behind you
the aging graves
the tombstones
with moss
and half lit
by moonlight
and star's glow
and you held her
in place face to face
with your hands
upon the cheeks
of her behind
eyes still closed
in the land
of the love sucked
blind.

Bianca
Her cheeks are hot, her cheeks are white;
The white girl hardly breathes to-night,
So faint the pulses come and go,
That waken to a smouldering glow
The morbid faintness of her white.
What drowsing heats of sense, desire
Longing and languorous, the fire
Of what white ashes, subtly mesh
The fascination of her flesh
Into a breathing web of fire?
Only her eyes, only her mouth,
Live, in the agony of drouth,
Athirst for that which may not be:
The desert of virginity
Aches in the hotness of her mouth.
I take her hands into my hands,
Silently, and she understands;
I set my lips upon her lips;
Shuddering to her finger-tips
She strains my hands within her hands.
I set my lips on hers; they close
Into a false and phantom rose;
Upon her thirsting lips I rain
A flood of kisses, and in vain;
Her lips inexorably close.
Through her closed lips that cling to mine,
Her hands that hold me and entwine,
Her body that abondoned lies,
Rigid with sterile ecstasies,
A shiver knits her flesh to mine.
Life sucks into a mist remote
Her fainting lips, her throbbing throat;
Her lips that open to my lips,
And, hot against her finger-tips,
The pulses leaping in her throat.

The Kiss
She slipped into her smiling stance
so easily.
Her lips parted showing her teeth
alabaster white and gleaming
as she sat on the couch
in dim light
bathing in the self-confidence-ness
women sometimes have that says
'whatever happens in this encounter
with him
it
will not matter
and will be only a ripple made by a rock thrown in the pond
with no consequence
because in her dry dock, she was thinking,
her emotional ship
had already sailed;
while she had only to move slightly or whisper-speak
and my dingy boat of disappointment and rejection would start to sink
as sure as white teeth part
and then
clamp down swallowing.
Transfixed at her mouth's opening
I only too late realized that alabaster,
shiny smiles
form the emotional bite
where something is bit off
and then swallowed down.
One sided complacency
married to desperate attraction
ends badlly
if one of the party
is blinded by bright smiling teeth
which rise in the darkened night
offering the promise of a kiss
but delivering only the fatal bites
the cat delivers
to the hypnotized mouse.
Such to me is irrestible.
Danger's erotic quiverings
place my hand in fire
to see how close heat can be
without singeing the soul
which lingers close by
but not too close
and I fix my gaze on that oraficed opened mouth
and my butter-fly breathing
lent to the event
one soft breath
rising to meet those panting lips
like the sirens offering
but never giving;
promising neither solice or need fulfilled;
silently demanding that she cross my
river Styx.
I watch as she stiffens from the shock
realizing, she herself, had been denied
what she had always felt
was her birth-right;
a kiss proffered; a kiss received,
but here for the first time
she experienced denial
a kiss in abeyance
close but willfully
withheld;
coming, but never came;
siren songs
which are near but stay outside
the closing circle;
out of reach
leaving her mouth
dry and bereft;
stunned that the moth
could come so close yet
resist the flame;
eyes now wide
she stares at me
seeking soul-level knowledge
of how and who could approach her crimson mouth
and yet resist..
She stared at my lips hovering.
I said
'Come close
step over the line more than halfway;
I need the surrender
of your mouth to mine
and in doing so
know you have abandoned that complaency
which shrouds you.
Don't hesitate, or it will be too late
your mouth is mine
even if we never touch
because it is the on-coming need
I see in its quivering, hesitancy
and your breathing
that tells me you are done;
warmth exhudes
and retreats;
I see your breasts rising
determinedly seeking
what had been denied;
yet the denial act
ignites both our needings
now mixed with curiosity
engorged lips, and
erstwhile somunamulant
needs.
At the marker point it is now
for each of us advance or retreat;
two breathings now indistinguishable;
pouty mouth
and hungry lips
meet
and meld;
fire-breathing
soul-fusing
tremblings.

Smart
My dad gave me one dollar bill
'Cause I'm his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
'Cause two is more then one!
And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes-- I guess he didn't know
That three is more than two!
Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just 'cause he can't see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!
And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four!
And I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head--
Too proud of me to speak!

Realize
Anytime, anyplace, come around, go away
There's a sound then it fades, turn it down make it stay
If I could get off the phone I'd deliver the song
But too much is in my way
Like a dog to the bone, a leash to the throne, a laugh within my face
Taking too much air, taking too much air
This is how you care
When you realize you're down, when you realize you're
Down on the floor with a radio song, you're crawling, you're crawling
Down on the floor with a radio song, Oh
We spent our days in a coma, believing it's over
Outside there's too much hate
Tried to stay on the ball believe in it all, but it bounces in our face
Now we're beginning to crawl, by leaving it all, there's nothing in our way
Breathing out again, breathing out again
When it seems like you can, then you realize you're down
You realize you're
Down on the floor with a radio song, you're crawling, you're crawling
Down on the floor with a radio song, Oh
When you realize you're down, when you realize you're down
From taking too much air, taking oxygen
We all want love and we all fall
Down on the floor with a radio song, you're crawling, you're crawling
Down on the floor with a radio song, Oh

Rememberless
She fixed me with those large Devotion Eyes
my psyche paralyzed by those liquid lights
which reside there twinkle-flashing into me.
They read deep
until I have to reach to see
where inside those eyes have touched me
again.
She moved toward me
never looking away;
I'm hypnotized and she knows
I'll not be able to move or breath
until she reaches inside my personal space
inches away
from her juicy mouth
apple-red
and satiny.
My insides plead
for them to kiss me
but she
does not-
she bites my lip instead-
her breasts sailing into the harbor
that is my arms
abutting my wharf
anchoring;
her nipples spreading
into my slip;
ripples of her slow breathing
rustle from her cotton-candy mouth
dissolving mine;
my tongue now sugar sweet.
Her lips soften
slide gently into me
soft tongue to tongue
the two dancing.
I cannot move.
She inhales and all of my breath is gone.
I exhale across her collar bone
where my mouth dives to clef between;
rushing down to rounded-mound
and then to her sister one
and nipple taut
she breaths again
allowing it to blush-
becoming more erect inside my quivering mouth.
Each time
it is a kiss only;
only a kiss.
Each time
I remember
an instant late
before it all absorbs me again
each time consumed after first fixed
by those liquid eyes
and her candy mouth.

A Buddhist Christmas
sitting on the bed
with my old blind dog...
breathing in, breathing out...
breathing in suffering,
all the suffering of the hungry,
the homeless, those in prison....
those ravaged by war....
of the lonely, those filled with despair,
the angry, the fearful, the lost....
breathing in deeply,
wrapping it all in snowlike stillness...
and then breathing out....
breathing out compassion,
total, unconditional, free compassion...
the oneness that feels every feeling,
hurts with every hurt,
prays with every need....
not judging, not holding back,
asking for nothing in return...
just breathing out....
and listening with gratitude
to the heartbeat of my faithful dog...
to the heartbeats of all that live...
lost inside life itself!

Passion
As I look in your eyes,
In the pale moon light,
And see your lil smile,
That lights up the night.
As I feel you body,
Pressed tight up to mine,
Your skin feel as silk,
As our bodies intertwine.
Feeling the passion,
With each touch of you skin,
The breathing gets harder,
As I kiss softly your lips slowly to your chin.
Our hands are wondering,
Exploring each others bodies as they go,
Kissing and caressing each sensual spot,
As we feel the passion start to flow.
Thrusting to one another,
As the heat starts to rise,
Kissing your soft lips,
As I slide my hand up your thighs.
As the sweat starts dripping,
Our bodies start to glide,
Feeling as tho we are one,
Each time our bodies collide.
Each time we connect,
Its like the waves crashing ashore,
The feeling is so wonderful,
As never before.

Equilibrium
I wanted those lips
but she was unaware;
I wanted her hips
which moved in small circles
so easily
child-bearing hips
belly-dancing hips
undulating hips,
but she was unaware.
The eyes were at once shy and bold
because she would look shyly
but then drink me in transfixed, innocently
I wanted her hands upon me
gentle hands, hesitantly
which invited my own touch-
my urgent desire
to seize.
because seizing
is a form of honesty,
a weakness some men have
compared to false sensitivity-
a weakness some women like to excite
some fear, and some are oblivious to.
But once inside her personal space
she changed, transformed
pressing against me
from her own center because desire knows no gender,
and I become the flower in her garden
opening to her sunlight
her mouth's gentle moist waterings
lifted too by those buoyant
breasts
crushing into me, hungrily-
her offerings.
She gasps directing my urges
gives me hers
our contours
meet
in the receiving
and the giving
the merging
the paper thin breathing
between us
boundaries now collapsing
gasps of warm airs
surges,
arms enfolding
in cathedral body
space
which is the realm of True Love's First Embrace.
She whispered
'I need this.'
and I spin away
yet we both
exchange then
Yin and Yang
creating that
perfect equilibrium
where hearts sing
where embraces consecrate
where souls merge.
No kiss surpasses the first kiss
No embrace replicates
True Love's First.

Breathing
Outside
Gets inside
Through her skin.
Ive been out before
But this time its much safer in.
Last night in the sky,
Such a bright light.
My radar send me danger
But my instincts tell me to keep
Breathing,
(out, in, out, in, out, in...)
Breathing,
Breathing my mother in,
Breathing my beloved in,
Breathing,
Breathing her nicotine,
Breathing,
Breathing the fall-out in,
Out in, out in, out in, out in.
Weve lost our chance.
Were the first and the last, ooh,
After the blast.
Chips of plutonium
Are twinkling in every lung.
I love my
Beloved, ooh,
All and everywhere,
Only the fools blew it.
You and me
Knew life itself is
Breathing,
(out, in, out, in, out...)
Breathing,
Breathing my mother in,
Breathing my beloved in,
Breathing,
Breathing her nicotine,
Breathing,
Breathing the fall-out in,
Out in, out in, out in, out in,
Out in, out in, out in, out...
(out!)
In point of fact it is possible to tell the
(out!)
Difference between a small nuclear explosion and
A large one by a very simple method. the calling
Card of a nuclear bomb is the blinding flash that
Is far more dazzling than any light on earth--brighter
Even than the sun itself--and it is by the duration
Of this flash that we are able to determine the size
(what are we going to do without? )
Of the weapon. after the flash a fireball can be
Seen to rise, sucking up under it the debris, dust
And living things around the area of the explosion,
And as this ascends, it soon becomes recognisable
As the familiar mushroom cloud. as a demonstration
Of the flash duration test lets try and count the
Number of seconds for the flash emitted by a very
Small bomb; then a more substantial, medium-sized
Bomb; and finally, one of our very powerful,
High-yield bombs
What are we going to do without?
Ooh please!
What are we going to do without?
Let me breathe!
What are we going to do without?
Ooh, quick!
We are all going to die without!
Breathe in deep!
What are we going to die without?
Leave me something to breathe!
We are all going to die without!
Oh, leave me something to breathe!
What are we going to do without?
Oh, god, please leave us something to breathe!
We are all going to die without
Oh, life is--breathing.

Fast Cars And Freedom
Starin' at you takin' off your makeup
Wondering why you even put it on
I know you think you do but baby you don't need it
Wish that you could see what I see it when it's gone
I see a dust trail following an old red Nova
Baby blue eyes, your head on my shoulder
Wait, baby don't moved, right here it is
T-shirt hanging off Dogwood Bridge
That river was cold but we gave love a chance
Yeah, yeah for me
You don't look a day over Fast Cars and Freedom
That sunset river back first time feeling
Yeah, smile and shake your head as if you don't believe me
I'll just sit right here and let you take me back
I'm on that gravel road, look at me
On my way to pick you up you're standing on the front porch
Looking just like that remember that
I see a dust trail following an old red Nova
Baby blue eyes, your head on my shoulder

So You Want To Be A Soldier
So you want to be a soldier
And learn those fighting moves;
Be a member of a team
In the soldier's school.
So you want to be a soldier
And go far from your home,
And learn there how to be a man
As you fight and roam.
So you want to be a soldier
And hold your buddy's hand,
As they breathe their final,
There on some mortal sand.
So you want to be a soldier
And call the road your bed,
And never know just when or how
You'll lay down your tired head.
So you want to be a soldier
Be buried in some plot-
Maybe far from your hometown,
After you have fought.
So you want to be a soldier-
Well there's no finer choice,
Than giving so unselfishly
To freedoms song, your voice.
You want to be a soldier;
And you could do much worse;
And choose the cowards way to go
And walk, behind the hearse.
But your name they'll remember,
As they speak of you with awe;
And wonder at your bravery,
And wonder what you saw.
Many men will shake your hand
And thank you for their freedom,
They'll say it is a gift from god
That you are still breathing.
You'll live more than other men-
And suffer much more too,
But in the end, you'll count it as
The best thing you could do.
And the biggest thank you,
That you will ever receive,
Is in the eyes of loved ones-
When you're back home again.
So if you know an older soldier,
Please shake his hand today
And tell him that you're grateful
He chose the soldier's way.

The Light That Is Felt
A tender child of summers three,
Seeking her little bed at night,
Paused on the dark stair timidly.
'Oh, mother! Take my hand,' said she,
'And then the dark will all be light.'
We older children grope our way
From dark behind to dark before;
And only when our hands we lay,
Dear Lord, in Thine, the night is day,
And there is darkness nevermore.
Reach downward to the sunless days
Wherein our guides are blind as we,
And faith is small and hope delays;
Take Thou the hands of prayer we raise,
And let us feel the light of Thee!

Chemistry
I am aware of your arrival
Swallowing your presence from across the room
The black shirt against your tan
Your eyes searching, then stopping, resting, smiling
As in slow motion you walk towards me
Your jeans brushing lightly against your thighs
I know of the birth mark on your hip
Remembering pearls of sweat on your chest
My nostrils flare
The scent of you embossed in my memory
I'm drowning in the blue of your slightly closed eyes
I hear you sharply inhaling just for a second
Your hand on my hips claiming my body
Your cheek against mine, still for a moment
You speak 'Hi Love'
Your voice is trapped in my stomach
Held hostage in my heart
Ever so subtle I feel a time bomb
Starting the count down
Within my being
You smell of earth, soap, love, desire and rain
Face to face, the scent of us changes
Our breathing
Later - after conversing with friends
You're walking behind me
Aware of our departure
A brief stop at the elevator
The black shirt, black buttons on your chest
Your hands claiming my back
The ride home in silence but smiling
You - controlling the vibrations of the engine
Gently with all forces possible
Taking us home
Now pained by the agony of our physical separation
We are finally alone
We meet with intention
And become one as never been apart
