A Southern Gospel...

he carefully pried at the screen
with his pocketknife... laying low
against the building, almost dissolving
in the shadows.
the probing lights of cars passing saw
nothing, no sign of life.
slowly, without sound, he removed the
screen.... pushing the window up just
enough, he pulled himself up and through
the window like a snake.
it was some kind of office at the back of
the church. he waited a minute for his
eyes to adjust. his body hurt, even his
soul hurt! every breath cut like a knife.
making his way to the door, he slipped
out into the hall. the silence was deafening.
on down the hall to the sanctuary... opening
the double doors, he made his way into the tomb!

waves of stillness.... and the smells...
redemption, morality, and sin... delicious,
tortured sin...
he slipped onto a bare wooden pew, and
the memories flooded back....
angels, demons, right and wrong defined
on chalkboards by hands that couldnt have
been human!
scriptures beaten against the mind... pictures
of a life he'd never quite found!
he took a deep breath, and winced... thought
of the hymns. peace everafter, always some
distant shore. yet they're often been a strange
sense of healing there.
he touched the offering plates, and shook his head.
the nickels and dimes of salvation, the cost of the
soul.
standing up, he made his way to the altar... and
fell in a heap to the floor...
agonizing, he looked up to see moonlight pouring
through the stained glass window... lighting the
face of Jesus, hanging on the cross...
the cold floor seemed to clutch at his heart...
his mind opened, and the waves rolled in.

The poetess, the moon...and the woods Pt1

A tear traced a path on her cheek in the moonlight
As her lips brushed the brow of her sleeping child

She stood still for a moment, with eyes closed tightly
Corners of lips pulled up… in a winsome smile

Strode heavily to the open window
stared out into the woods, soft lit by the moon

Then with a sigh pulled down the window
And quietly tiptoed out of the room

Glanced in at her husband, long asleep in their bed
And in her mind gave him a kiss on the top of his head

Then sat at her desk and finished her poem
Sat back and reviewed it… one last time

It was about her life… and about her home
And about the glow of the woods in the moonshine

She nodded her head… as if in agreement
With the words that she had carefully, composed

Her finger touched “enter” with determined intent
Then her whole body slumped in repose

From the corners of her eyes, she saw the moon rise
Oe’r the woods from out of her window

A teardropp fell softly to her desk as she stood
And walked through the door for the very last time

She looked up at the moon and then strode into the woods
She had posted her last poem…her very last rhyme

Hours By The Window

Day and night
By the window
Of my mind
There you are
In the courtyard
One last time
The singing of a famous song Ive never heard before
A man without a shadow slowly walking past my door
My mind projects a face soon to be free of misery
The chiming of some distant bell that echoes in my heart
A dance upon the flagstones to the music of the stars
A mothers name that lingers on a soothing summers breeze
All alone I said no prayers today
I couldnt kneel to please the God that failed you
Now youre gone Ill sit and spend each day
Hours by the window
Morning comes
To my rescue
Once again
Whispers in the corridor and footsteps in the hall
My only point of reference now the sunlight on the wall
It draws me to the window where my dreams are memories
A step beyond the line where sunken eyes avert their gaze
An endless tract of time reveals a thousand silent ways
All searching for an answer to lifes deepest mysteries
On the ocean of pure time I sail away
I go and these four walls will not contain me
Maybe there Ill see your face again
Hours by the window
All alone I said no prayers today
I couldnt kneel to please the God that failed you
What Id give to see your face again
Hours by the window

Morning Message From Love

woke up in a tired body
after an endless night it did precede
exhausted by all homework and books
all the subjects, all the materials I took
nothing was left, but me
laying and so much in weary
i tried to sit on bedside hardly
though it could be done effortlessly
dark was this room indeed
here there was none but me
alone, but there were two friends
the cellphone and the nightstand
still half conscious i sighed
a deep breath inhaled i
from the window a flicker of light
and was inhaled by my eyes
the cellphone alarmed noisily
that a message was sent to me
i opened the inbox and see
what this day would bring to me
i looked and smiled at the screen
the message was displayed in
i stood opening the window
letting the sunshine flowed
a new day came to see me
why wouldn't i greet it warmly?
sun was there, love was there
with all they had to share
with me..

Notell Hotel

I checked into the room and I checked the view
And then I locked and chained the door
I had time to kill I had space to fill
Like a prisoner on the floor
But then the silence broke, theres a woman
Screaming down the hall
And I wondered what was going on
Here at the notell hotel
So I killed the light and I slipped the chain
Took a peek into the hall
I was just in time to see the waiter trip
And drop the dinner on the floor
But the bellboy smiled as the elevator started to fall
And I wondered what was going on
Down at the notell hotel
Ooh, I love a mystery (cover up and intrigue)
Life can be a thriller, a fantasy of everything I see
Ooh, how I love a mystery (turned up raincoats)
Secret agents, waiting for the missing clue
At a rendezvous
I heard the sound of feet and I looked out to
Meet a girl I knew Id seen before
She had the kind of looks, you see in dirty books
And she was dripping on the floor
She was taking a shower when someone tiptoed in
And turned out the lights
Its gonna be one of those nights
Down at the notell hotel
I took her into my room and picked the lock on the bar
To get a drink to calm her down
Then the mirror cracked as the window shook
And the table turned around
And when I grabbed at the phone
There was a voice at the end of the line
Is that 1059? is anything wrong, is there anything wrong
Here at the notell hotel
Ooh, I love a mystery (cover up and intrigue)
Life can be a thriller, a fantasy of everything I see
Ooh, how I love a mystery (turned up raincoats)
Secret agents, waiting for the missing clue
At a rendezvous

No Lilies For Lisette

Said the Door: "She came in
With no shadow of sin;
Turned the key in the lock,
Slipped out of her frock,
The robe she liked best
When for supper she dressed.
Then a letter she tore . . .
What a wan look she wore!"
Said the Door.

Said the Chair: "She sat down
With a pitiful frown,
And then (oh, it's queer)
Just one lonely tear
Rolled down her pale cheek.
How I hoped she would speak
As she let down her hair,"
Said the Chair.

Said the Glass: "Then she gazed
Into me like one dazed;
As with delicate grace
She made up her face,
Her cheeks and her lips
With rose finger-tips,
So lovely - alas!
Then she turned on the gas."
Said the Glass.

Said the Bed: "Down she lay
In a weariful way,
Like an innocent child,
To her fate reconciled;
Hands clasped to her breast,
In prayer or in rest:
'Dear Mother,' she said,
Then pillowed her head,"
Said the Bed.

Said the Room: "Then the gleam
Of the moon like a dream,
Soft silvered my space,
And it fell on her face
That was never so sweet
As her heart ceased to beat . . .
Then the moon fled and gloom
Fell like funeral plume,"
Said the Room.

"Just a whore,"
Said the Door;
"Yet so fair,"
Said the Chair;
"Frail, alas!"
Said the Glass;
"Now she's dead,"
Said the Bed;
"Sorry doom,"
Said the Room. . . .

Then they all,
Floor and wall,
Quiet grew,
Ceiling too;
Like a tomb
Was the room;
With hushed breath
Hailing Death:
Soul's release,
Silence, Peace.

An Uneasy Sleep

The lightning flashed outside the window
the thunder clapped shaking everything
I had the eerie feeling of something watching me.
The lightning forced shadows to dance around the room,
as I got ready to pull the covers over my head,
my eyes searched for movement
of which I was unaware of
my heart pounded against my chest
as the storm raged without abate.
There was a tapping at the window;
I was not brave enough to look
to see if it was a branch or a face wanting me.
I slipped under the covers
going down as far as I could go,
something moved around the floor,
the creaks and thumps told me so.
I wanted to pull the covers back
and have a little peek,
but I thought better of it and tried to go to sleep.
I heard the door yawn and the hinges creak
the ghost of old McNair must be coming
for me when I fell asleep.
I heard more movements
and voices whispering low
and my heart-started pound more.
I laid silent and still hoping
that whatever it was
wouldn’t think I was in bed.
Something sat on the edge of the bed;
it was coming to get me for sure.
Then something poked around
to see if I was there.
I could feel it getting closer and closer,
I held my breath tying mot to scream,
and then it touched me and I let out a yell.
I threw back to the covers
and the room was bathed in soft warm candlelight.
The lightning outside still flashed,
a pair of smiling faces looked down at me.
I looked up at them want to know
just what was going on.
“I think the fever has broken now.
He should be a lot better in the, morning.
My advice is that you stay with him a while,
at least until he falls asleep.”
My mother nodded, and then smiled at me.
“Now you just lie down again
and try and get some sleep.
I’ll be sitting here in case you need me.”
I rested back against the pillow;
my fears were now at rest.
I closed my eyes
and sleep captured me immediately.

Concerned

i imagine you alone in bed
with a wound
blood drips but you are tactful
on this matter
you put cotton and apply
the needed pressure
to stop the bleeding
of your heart

then you stand up
head high
look over the window
take a deep breath
and smile to the passing
wind

this is life
these are the accompanying pains of birth
the obedience to the cycle

and then it rains
you close the glass window
the strong wind cannot be heard
with its murmurs

you go back to bed
and sleep
with all the peace and quiet inside
the room
of your soul

this is the acceptance
less all the denials.

Outside Your Window

Outside Your Window;
And in the hands of fate:
I feel the seconds slowly pass,
Whilst you I anxiously await.

And behind the glowing glass;
I glimpsed a fading candlelight.
And I with hope was filled and so:
Wished I for love and life this night.

Outside Your Window;
And in the hands of fate:
I see through the looking glass,
To find my missing soulmate.

And when the light finally flew;
When darkness swamped the room:
A wide smile on my face drew;
And waited I for you to bloom.

Outside Your Window;
And in the hands of fate:
I feel my feelings all amass,
As I your beauty contemplate.

Seconds felt forever;
Nor beauty I did see.
All alone my eyes did glitter;
Whilst wondering where you would be!

Outside Your Window;
And in the hands of fate:
I walked on in your impasse;
Wishing it's not yet too late.

Outside Your Window;
And in the hands of fate:
I lonesome stood for long alas!
And didn't notice your window grate.

Outside Your Window;
And in the hands of fate:
I tried to drag out of that morass,
Myself; and my lost senses locate.

Outside Her Window;
And in the hands of fate:
I watched my heart swiftly by a lass,
Gets stolen; and did my soul sedate.

Outside Her Window;
I still pass by everyday.
Outside Her Window;
I can't just turn and walk away.

Outside Her Window;
I still have hope that she might show.
Outside Her Window;
I watch my life pass by so slow.

Outside Your Window;
And in the hands of fate:
I once awaited you alone all night.
But now I know: it's just too late!

In To An Old Memory

I slipped back into old memory
Felt sad and completely sorry
Even though I have everything
It made me sick for something

I looked at the window
Gentle wind tried to blow
It made me literally unmoved
All the memories are not that easily removed

You were entering with tea tray
As usual with happiness to stay
With me till I finished
You always smiled and wished

I never looked at you and appreciated
As if you were mp were related
You were suppose to serve and disappear
Not to utter a word or whisper

How cunning was I in dealing?
You were there for all kinds of healing
I stood for sturdy silence and concealing
I never thought it was unfair dealing

She waited whole life for my sweet word
A gesture in waiting but never looked backward
I gave in nothing much to her sincere effort
We never had loving contact with human rapport

She loved me till the end
But I show no attitude even like friend
I proved to be no good husband
It was hate type approach and trend

I wished now that I could have made some gesture
It was all neede4d for our comfortable and future
But nothing happened at all and she departed
I miss now her absence curse why at all she parted

Not all people might be lucky to have such a companion?
Who can stand for durable and honest union?
One must try to find out reasons and live honorably
Not to neglect whole life and fail her miserably

Label On The Wind

I stumbled on and almost fell across your moosehead-slippers
The other day sometime ago on the radio
They played that song again it still sounds the same
Outside my window all the rain is pouring down again
The night is still its way past three
Another cup of tea coz I can't sleep
In two hours you'll get out of bed
Chocolate milk with cheese on toasted bread
And outside my window all the rain keeps pouring down again
Washing all the dirt and hurt away so they say
And outside my window all the rain keeps pouring down again
Washing all the dirt and hurt away
Outside my window all the rain keeps pouring down again
I wonder if where you are it is raining just the same
Just the same

I Slipped And Fell In Love

A drunk man walking down a rainy street
A wood floor and new socks on your bare feet
You look down and suddenly you're looking up
Whoops, I slipped and fell in love
A bald tire running on an icy road
A steep hill underneath a foot of snow
A greased pig fallen off a pickup truck
Whoops, I slipped and fell in love
I hope that you're feeling the way that I feel
It's just like flying but you're standing still
The birds and the bees are sure powerful stuff
Whoops, I slipped and fell in love
An ice cube hiding on your kitchen floor
A bad step leading up to your back door
How'd I wind up on my butt
Whoops, I slipped and feel in love
I hope that you're feeling the way that I feel
It's just like flying but you're standing still
The birds and the bees are sure powerful stuff
Whoops, I slipped and fell in love
I hope that you're feeling the way that I feel
It's just like flying but you're standing still
The birds and the bees are sure powerful stuff
Whoops, I slipped and fell in love
Help, I've fallen I can't getup
Whoops, I slipped and fell in love

The Room

(chris waters/tom shapiro)
When I pull in the drive where your car used to be
It doesnt hurt me like it used to
I can walk through the door, and not wonder anymore
Where you are, like I used to
I can go down the hall, see the pictures on the wall
And not miss you
But I just cant bring myself to go into..
The room
Where I spent every night with you
And the light of the moon
Came through the window
And I held you
We were so close
And its just too soon
For me to go into the room
Id remember too much if I opened that door
And Im not sure if I could face it
The beds emptiness would remind me youre with
Someone else, and I couldnt take it
So, I sleep on the couch in our living room now
Since our love died
cause Im still not ready yet to go inside...
The room
Where I spent every night with you
And the light of the moon
Came through the window
And I held you
We were so close
And its just too soon
For me to go into the room
Where the light of the moon
Came through the window
And I held you
We were so close
And its just too soon
For me to go into the room

The Wren

It was a quiet morning;
As usual my wife Laureen opened the front door (leaving it open wide) in hopes that the cat would follow her out. (Little did she know that a small intruder had flown in through the open door.) After retrieving the morning newspaper, with coffee mug full of steaming coffee Laureen settled into
her morning ritual, with "Neferkitti" (our cat) snuggled on the bar stool next to her.

Suddenly there was a flutter and thump as a tiny wren flew into a window in the dining room.
The bird fell to the floor momentarily stunned. Taking advantage of the moment, with great speed and agility Neferkitti pounced on the helpless bird. Mouthing the bird softly, she presented her catch to her master. Horrified Laureen admonished the cat, screaming "Let her go". With great reluctance the cat dropped the bird on the floor. After a few moments the bird flew up to a tall cabinet, where she landed to assess her predicament.

At this time I was laying in bed reading, when I heard Laureen shout loudly "Ray get in here there is a bird in the house'. I slipped on a shirt, grabbed my glasses, and walked in just as the bird took flight and landed on the rail leading to my upstairs office. Walking up the stairs slowly I reached for the perched bird who quickly flew back down to the family room. Not seeing where she landed I searched the room. Suddenly she flew into a large picture window in the family room. The confused bird sat on the sill looking out of the window. I approached the bird, who made no attempt to fly off. I reached down, and with cupped hands gently picked up the traumatized bird. She chirped once and settled into my warm hands.

Making my way to the sliding door that leads to the outside deck I stepped out and opened my hands to release the bird. Gripping the index finger of my right hand she was reluctant to fly. I stood there, and time froze.

Our eyes met, and I felt the impact of what was happening;
From the wren's perspective here stood a god-like giant with the power of life and death over her. From my perspective there perched on a single finger was a tiny creature who I could crush with hardly any effort. In that brief moment we were both experienced the miracle, diversity and fragile nature of life.

"All creatures great and small"

Walking over to a bench on the deck and with palm up I waited for the bird to step off onto the safety of the bench and freedom. She gripped even more tightly, as if she'd found safety in my hands. With my left hand I gently coaxed her off my right hand onto the bench, where she stood looking around. She made no effort to fly away, so I went back through the door, closed it and stood watching, hoping that she was not seriously injured.

While walking up the stairs to my office I heard Laureen (who'd been watching) exclaim loudly;

"She just flew away"!

Gratified...I went up to my office to write an account of this magical and humbling event.

Small Glimpses Of Holiness

i can remember being a kid,
and going to church on Sunday....
can remember the way the sunlight
danced through the stained glass
windows, the smell of the old
hymnals, the way the hard bench
hurt my back....
can remember singing the old hymns...
(sometimes they come to me
in my sleep....)

but i cant remember any particular sermon!

it's funny what we equate with God,
and holiness... and what we dont!

just as easy i can remember being alone
in the woods, watching sunlight pour
through the pines, listening to the gurgling
of the creek.... and the way the earth felt
beneath my bare feet.....

or the first time i ever made love
to a girl... in the front seat of an
old Rambler.... moonlight sifting through
the trees... and the barking of a dog.

or sleeping in a cave, on the run, and the
damp darkness like a womb enveloping
me... with only the sound of a nearby
waterfall piercing the stillness....

or standing by my mother's grave...
watching a part of myself go back
to the dust...

or the sound of my children's voices
when they just needed assurance....

small glimpses of holiness drifting
through an old man's mind... on the way
back home.

Excerpt From Lamplight Symphony

On a winter's night, stars are cold and bright in the sky,
The slumber of the earth is pure and deep
From a distant wood, drifts the echo of a beast
The old man stirs and wakens in the night
He stands before his window gazing at the grave
Forgotten dreams are flashing through his weary mind
And though his life is empty, he pretends that she's still there
With hunger in his soul, he yearns for life and love gone by,
With memories his one and only joy
All he has to give, he would give to bring back the life,
And raise the one who lies beneath the snow
He lights a lamp and looks at pictures of the past
The faces of their youth still glow with new-found love,
But the picture's faded, and time has stolen youth away
With a spoken word that he thought he heard from her lips,
He felt another presence in the room,
He was filled with fear but filled with joy he arose
And turned to face the image that he knew
She stood before him and her hand reached out for his
A peaceful light shone in her eyes
She said she'd come to soothe him, and someday they'd be as one
She began to fade and her image disappeared,
So he was left alone to face the night,
Never in his life, had he been so held in awe,
As he faced the apparition of his wife
He stood before the window gazing at the grave,
And with a lightened heart he saw the first of dawn,
He knew that she was waiting, that someday they'd be as one

Robert Buchanan

’T WAS the body of Judas Iscariot
Lay in the Field of Blood;
’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
Beside the body stood.

Black was the earth by night
And black was the sky;
Black, black were the broken clouds,
Tho’ the red Moon went by.

’T was the body of Judas Iscariot
Strangled and dead lay there;
’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
Look’d on it in despair.

The breath of the World came and went
Like a sick man’s in rest;
Drop by drop on the World’s eyes
The dews fell cool and blest.

Then the soul of Judas Iscariot
Did make a gentle moan—
“I will bury underneath the ground
My flesh and blood and bone.

“I will bury deep beneath the soil,
Lest mortals look thereon,
And when the wolf and raven come
The body will be gone!

“The stones of the field are sharp as steel,
And hard and bold, God wot;
And I must bear my body hence
Until I find a spot!”

’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
So grim, and gaunt, and gray,
Rais’d the body of Judas Iscariot,
And carried it away.

And as he bare it from the field
Its touch was cold as ice,
And the ivory teeth within the jaw
Rattled aloud, like dice.

As the soul of Judas Iscariot
Carried its load with pain,
The Eye of Heaven, like a lanthorn’s eye,
Open’d and shut again.

Half he walk’d, and half he seem’d
Lifted on the cold wind;
He did not turn, for chilly hands
Were pushing from behind.

The first place that he came unto
It was the open wold,
And underneath were prickly whins,
And a wind that blew so cold.

The next place that he came unto
It was a stagnant pool,
And when he threw the body in
It floated light as wool.

He drew the body on his back,
And it was dripping chill,
And the next place that he came unto
Was a Cross upon a hill.

A Cross upon the windy hill,
And a Cross on either side,
Three skeletons that swing thereon,
Who had been crucified.

And on the middle crossbar sat
A white Dove slumbering;
Dim it sat in the dim light,
With its head beneath its wing.

And underneath the middle Cross
A grave yawn’d wide and vast,
But the soul of Judas Iscariot
Shiver’d, and glided past.

The fourth place that he came unto
It was the Brig of Dread,
And the great torrents rushing down
Were deep, and swift, and red.

He dar’d not fling the body in
For fear of faces dim,
And arms were wav’d in the wild water
To thrust it back to him.

’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
Turn’d from the Brig of Dread,
And the dreadful foam of the wild water
Had splash’d the body red.

For days and nights he wander’d on
Upon an open plain,
And the days went by like blinding mist,
And the nights like rushing rain.

For days and nights he wander’d on,
All thro’ the Wood of Woe;
And the nights went by like moaning wind,
And the days like drifting snow.

’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
Came with a weary face—
Alone, alone, and all alone,
Alone in a lonely place!

He wander’d east, he wander’d west,
And heard no human sound;
For months and years, in grief and tears,
He wander’d round and round.

For months and years, in grief and tears,
He walk’d the silent night;
Then the soul of Judas Iscariot
Perceiv’d a far-off light.

A far-off light across the waste,
As dim as dim might be,
That came and went like a lighthouse gleam
On a black night at sea.

’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
Crawl’d to the distant gleam;
And the rain came down, and the rain was blown
Against him with a scream.

For days and nights he wander’d on,
Push’d on by hands behind;
And the days went by like black, black rain,
And the nights like rushing wind.

’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot,
Strange, and sad, and tall,
Stood all alone at dead of night
Before a lighted hall.

And the wold was white with snow,
And his footmarks black and damp,
And the ghost of the silver Moon arose,
Holding her yellow lamp.

And the icicles were on the eaves,
And the walls were deep with white,
And the shadows of the guests within
Pass’d on the window light.

The shadows of the wedding guests
Did strangely come and go,
And the body of Judas Iscariot
Lay stretch’d along the snow.

The body of Judas Iscariot
Lay stretch’d along the snow;
’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
Ran swiftly to and fro.

To and fro, and up and down,
He ran so swiftly there,
As round and round the frozen Pole
Glideth the lean white bear.

’T was the Bridegroom sat at the tablehead,
And the lights burn’d bright and clear—
“Oh, who is that,” the Bridegroom said,
“Whose weary feet I hear?”

’T was one look’d from the lighted hall,
And answer’d soft and slow,
“It is a wolf runs up and down
With a black track in the snow.”

The Bridegroom in his robe of white
Sat at the tablehead—
“Oh, who is that who moans without?”
The blessed Bridegroom said.

’T was one look’d from the lighted hall,
And answer’d fierce and low,
“’T is the soul of Judas Iscariot
Gliding to and fro.”

’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
Did hush itself and stand,
And saw the Bridegroom at the door
With a light in his hand.

The Bridegroom stood in the open door,
And he was clad in white,
And far within the Lord’s Supper
Was spread so long and bright.

The Bridegroom shaded his eyes and look’d,
And his face was bright to see—
“What dost thou here at the Lord’s Supper
With thy body’s sins?” said he.

’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
Stood black, and sad, and bare—
“I have wander’d many nights and days;
There is no light elsewhere.”

’T was the wedding guests cried out within,
And their eyes were fierce and bright—
“Scourge the soul of Judas Iscariot
Away into the night!”

The Bridegroom stood in the open door,
And he wav’d hands still and slow,
And the third time that he wav’d his hands
The air was thick with snow.

And of every flake of falling snow,
Before it touch’d the ground,
There came a dove, and a thousand doves
Made sweet sound.

’T was the body of Judas Iscariot
Floated away full fleet,
And the wings of the doves that bare it off
Were like its winding-sheet.

’T was the Bridegroom stood at the open door,
And beckon’d, smiling sweet;
’T was the soul of Judas Iscariot
Stole in, and fell at his feet.

“The Holy Supper is spread within,
And the many candles shine,
And I have waited long for thee
Before I pour’d the wine!”

The supper wine is pour’d at last,
The lights burn bright and fair,
Iscariot washes the Bridegroom’s feet,
And dries them with his hair.

So Close - Unplugged

Hall, Green)
-------------
They met on the dance floor in the old high school gym
He fell like a rock
She kinda liked him
And his heart beat like thunder as they moved cross the floor
But when the music was over she slipped out the door
Yeah a man loves a woman but he can't understand
Why she's sad when she stares at the ring on her hand
Then she sits in some club where the long shadows fall
Drops a coin in the jukebox not the phone on the wall
So close
Yet so far away
We believe in tomorrow and a better day
We lie down to sleep so close
Yet so far away
There's a restless look in you eye tonight
There's a secret hurt in my heart
And the dream that pulls us together girl
Is a dream that keeps us
So close
Yet so far away
Some people think if you really believe
That's all you need to solve all the mysteries
Well I know someone who just heads for the sun
She says "I don't wanna be wise, I just wanna stay young"
There's a restless look in your eye tonight
There's a secret hurt in my heart
And the dream that pulls us together girl is a dream
That's gonna tear us apart

Gypsy

Watching the universe at the end of another day
Fatalistic ships froma distant shore
In the back of my mind I could see she was standing there
Like the feeling you have
When youve been there before
She was a gypsy woman
She was as cold as the day
She said Id got it coming
And then she took me away
She took me through the shadows of her sunken dream
I thought its over me,she wasnt all she seemed
She took my hand and then she started to speak
She told me shed had the call
With eyes of fire that were burning my soul
She looked into her crystal ball
She read my fortune then she read my mind
She didnt like my thoughts at all
She showed me shadows,a spectre of life
My soul just wanted to scream
She stared so deeply into my eyes
Thats when I fell into a dream
When I awoke in bed she lay beside me
And she read me with her eyes,she said
So you wanna be a gypsy,come on now
Gypsy woman youre the devil in drag
You are the queen of all hell
You took my body,now youre wasting my soul
Youve got me under your spell
And as the sun shines on another day
Youre gonna take my mind as well,its over
So you wanna be a gypsy,come on now.

Moonlight Mile

When the wind blows and the rain feels cold
With a head full of snow
With a head full of snow
In the window there's a face you know
Don't the nights pass slow
Don't the nights pass slow

The sound of strangers sending nothing to my mind
Just another mad mad day on the road
I am just living to be lying by your side
But I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road

Made a rag pile of my shiny clothes
Gonna warm my bones
Gonna warm my bones
I got silence on my radio
Let the air waves flow
Let the air waves flow

Oh I'm sleeping under strange strange skies
Just another mad mad day on the road
My dreams is fading down the railway line
I'm just about a moonlight mile down the road

I'm hiding sister and I'm dreaming
I'm riding down your moonlight mile
I'm hiding baby and I'm dreaming
I'm riding down your moonlight mile
I'm riding down you moonlight mile

Let it go now
