If I didn't have my camera to remind me constantly, I am here to do this, I would eventually have slipped away, I think. I would have forgotten my reason to exist.

What's My Name
You always were too cool
Pushing us around school
Everyone knew who you were
You always walked the line
We had to step aside
We always had to eat your dirt
But the tables turned
And things have changed
Time for a lesson
So let's spell it out again
Remind me just in case
You might have forgotten
What's my name?
Say it again
You always brought us down
Kicked the weak around
Making out that we didn't exist
When we'd speak our views
You'd say 'who are you'
And make your point with a fist
But the tables turned
And things have changed
Time for a lesson
So let's spell it out again
Remind me just in case
You might have forgotten
What's my name?
Say it again

You Remind Me Of Gold
Baby, when I think about you
And thats when I think
I think about gold
You remind me of gold
And when I see the sunrise in the sky
And when I hear your brakes come squealing by
I forget
Everything Ive been told
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold
Baby I always think about you
I think of the life and glory you hold
You remind me of gold
And even though there was no sun today
And though you are a thousand miles away
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold
You remind me of gold

Into The Lens
Memories, how they fade so fast
Look back, that is no escape
Tied down, now you see too late.
Lovers, they will never wait.
I am a camera
Take heart, I could never let you go
And you, always let the feeling show
Love us all, how you never broke your heart
You lose them
If you feel the feeling start.
I am a camera, camera, camera
And you, may find time will blind you
This to just remind you
All is meant to be.
Here, by the waterside
There, where the lens is wide
You and me
By the sea
Taken in tranquility.
Taken, taken so easily
To pass into glass reality
Transform, to transfer, to energy.
Taken, taken, so easily
To pass into glass reality
Transformer, transferring energy.

We felt if we didn't have new material in us and we didn't have a real reason to exist, then we probably wouldn't have done an 80's revival thing. We are very conscious about the fact that's what we are as a bunch of people.

Buena Vista
Wake up butterfly
The sun's fallen down
The clouds are rolling over
And we still got many miles to go
From winter days come starless nights
The constellations frown
And when the heavens start to open
Even monkeys gonna need a coat
And the masterpiece slipped through my hand
Stole a car and drove to a foreign land
The man with the camera said he'd seen it all before, uh huh
And Opus 49's to blame
From moon illusion Buena Vista in flames
The man with the camera said nice try but..er..fly...
Wake up butterfly
The sun's fallen down
The wind is blowing backwards
And it's opening the eye of the storm
The spiders circuit spinning out on the ground
They're wishing they were younger
There's a little bit of that in us all
Take it down
Take it down
There's a little bit of that in us all
Yeah, come on and bring it around
Bring me round
There's a little bit of that in us all...
The masterpiece slipped through my hand
Stole a car and drove to a foreign land
The man with the camera said he'd seen it all before, uh huh
And Opus 49's to blame
From moon illusion Buena Vista in flames
The man with the camera said nice try but..er...flyyyy...

If You Forget Me
If you forget me
Who ever you are?
It will mean nothing to me
Who will go on living
Having forgotten the purpose
To a life
That drags heavy footed
Through grey streets
If you forget me
Just remember,
I have already forgotten
You,
And if you remember this,
Please remind me,
So that I will stop posting you
A christmas card
Whoever you are,
We who are strangers
Who go on living
Because we have forgotten
The pointlessness to our lives
Or why we wear sensible shoes
At a certain age
Or why some eat cereal
While others go empty into the morning
Why where how?
If you forget me
Remember to remind me that,
I have already forgotten you
Then I promise to stop sending you a christmas card
Or wishing you a happy new year
And if I have forgotten that you who are living
Have died and are now dead,
Then forgive me for sending you all those post cards
Without a return to sender
I may have simply forgotten to read the small print
On the invite card
Or maybe it rained
or I had a cold
Or was too busy forgetting the day of the week
And the pointlessness to my existence
Which when forgotten
Along with you, my friend,
Is less bleak
Infact it is quite pleasant
Okay
So let's just forget the whole miserable affair, okay?

I Don't Remember
Remind me again,
Why I loved you?
Remind me again,
Why it didn't work out?
Remind me again
How you left me
Broken
and searching for love all over again...
Let me remind you
Of what you lost
You walked away
You made the mistake
You're sorry..
I'm sorry
I don't care
You're sorry
I'm seeing better days
You're sorry
You left me
Broken
I'm not sorry
I have to say.
I've gained some much needed perspective
I know who I am and what I can take.
You left me
For that I thank you.
I'm happy
And can't say regret it
Can't say I miss you
Or wish you
Or wish for those long gone days.

If The Surface For Them Did Not Exist
If the surface didn't exist,
Many wouldn't have a thought to cling to.
Many wouldn't know,
Which gossip heard was true.
If the surface for them did not exist.
If the surface didn't exist,
The many dependent on having lives not their own...
Would be lost without being told what to do.
Many absolutely would not have a clue...
How to find their way around,
Without following in someone's footsteps.
If the surface they sniffed did not exist.
And if the surface for them did not exist...
They would not be able to sit alone,
Doing something completely on their own...
And appreciating life,
With the minding of their own business.
If...
The surface for many did not exist,
It would be taumatic for them to seek a thought process.
Many would not know where or how to begin.
So many are accustomed to living lives that are shallow.
With an ability only to identify with that...
Which is supplied and arrives to them surfacely.
Even a dog sniffing tries to find a place to bury a bone.
And doing that alone.

If The Camera Breaks..
Do you want to take a picture?
Fine go ahead, with a clicky click, click take.
Wait, hang on a second I didn't put on my smiling face.
Now try try and try.
For with my ugliness the camera might just break.
Do you want to take a picture?
Fine go ahead, with a clicky click, click take.
Wait, hang on a second I didn't put on my smiling face.
Now try try and try.
For with my ugliness the camera might just break.
If it does don't expect me pay.
And if you have pour gasoline on yourself, light the fire and jump out 10 story window just to get the images out of your head.
Just don't expect me to feel guilty.
Do you want take a picture?
Fine go ahead, with a clicky click, click take.
Wait, hang on a second I didn't put on my smiling face.
Now try try and try.
For with my ugliness the camera might just break.
Do you want take a picture.
Fine go ahead, with a clicky click, click take.
Wait, hang on a second I didn't put on my smiling face.
Now try try and try.
For with my ugliness the camera might just break.
Don't say I didn't warn you if the camera it breaks.

I Thought That We Were Still In Love
(liz vidal/tom snow)
Last night while we were talking the way that old friends do
I suddenly got lost in my yesterdays with you
I told you that in my heart you would always be the one
That Id lie waking in the dark, pray that you will come
But I didnt mean to say that
Somehow it just slipped out
I swear that I would take it back
If I could right now
All I ask is you believe
Id forgotten where I was
With you there so close to me
I thought that we were still in love
Oh I knew just what Id done when you stood up so fast
And say the friends that wed become cant hold on to the past
You said its been a long long time since love came to an end
If I hadnt learned to draw the line, its useless to pretend
But I didnt mean to say that
Somehow it just slipped out
I swear that I would take it back
If I could right now
All I ask is you believe
Id forgotten where I was
With you there so close to me
I thought that we were still in love
I dont think I could take goodbye, that much is still the truth
Wont you forgive me just for one night, its what a friend would do
coz I didnt mean to say that
Somehow it just slipped out
I swear that I would take it back
If I could right now
All I ask is you believe
Id forgotten where I was
With you there so close to me
I thought that we were still in love
Still in love
I thought that we were still in love

Amy
D folger
Wish that I could wish away love
Every memory
All the things young dreams are made of
That ever used to be
Cos if I could leave it all behind me
Thered be nothing left to constantly remind me
Of amy, of amy
She comes and goes just like the seasons
Keeping me on the run
Between the fever and the reason
Im not the only one
And I guess Ill always feel the same about love
And Ill find it hard to even live without the love
Of amy, amy, oh amy
Amy, amy, amy, amy...

Forgetting Something So Important
why am i here?
must i have forgotten
the reason why
am i
here? am i destined
for something
greater
than my mind?
or my heart?
have i forgotten that
i have a soul?
a spirit engraved
within the
shiny metal of
my body,
a name, a brand,
a status
why am i here?
have i forgotten You
who have placed
me here?
have i forgotten
that love is always the
reason for my
being here
in this misery
shall love continue to be
my guide and cure?
how can i ever forget
the floor of
my existence
the love without
a ceiling?
the house of love
that never falls
the beams that never
break
the Host that knows
everything

Those Same Obstacles Will Be There
Why should I go somewhere else,
To do and be who it is I am?
So many others have chosen to do just that.
Only to discover with a backtracking,
They still have no clue as to who they are.
Or for what purpose,
They live to exist to accept and not resist.
For some reason I have always known this.
To not backtrack to avoid facing facts.
And it didn't matter where I chose to sit.
Or be confronted with obstacles I know exist.
Realizing those same obstacles will be there,
No matter where one goes to confront...
That which opposes the being of who one 'is'.

Nightmare
The floor has slipped beneath you
and you tumble into that dark abyss.
You look back at what you’ve achieved.
Asking yourself could I have done
that little bit more
and if I ever get out of here,
I am going to do just that.
Down and down you tumble
into your conscience hell
where the mistakes you made
haunt your every moment wake
and you begin to ask yourself
within a screaming yell
help me to make amends.
Finally, you awake from the nightmare
and lay there shivering and sweating.
Eventually you get up
to start your new day,
but does the nightmare get forgotten
or will you do what you said.
That future is up to you.

Feel Like A Fool
Every guy that I have seriously liked
in the last 10 years
is married now.
All except two.
I feel like a fool.
Guy #1
seriously messed with
my heart and mind.
He would never admit it.
It took me almost 5 years
to get over him.
Everyone knew I should move on
but I was the last to know.
I thought he was so amazing.
I saw his passion and his
spiritual gifts
and I tried my best
to turn a blind eye
to his faults.
I have so many
of my own,
who am I
to judge another?
He called me
the Proverbs 31 woman.
How did he know
that is the woman
that I aspire to be?
He planned
my birthday party
when others dropped out.
He was the reliable one.
Most of the time
that was not the case.
But that time
he shined.
But he constantly
had me on a tightrope
and he constantly broke his word
and hurt me
over and over
and over.
Eventually, I didn't really want
to put myself out there
again.
Too many guys have
failed me.
It gets old.
Guy #1 eventually moved in
with one of my former best female friends.
Her and her husband.
Unusual, yes.
Eventually she left her husband
and then her and her husband just got divorced.
He tells me they
have a good friendship, healthy.
I know him too well to agree.
I am so glad I am over him
but sometimes,
still
even now
it can be akward.
I stopped letting him in
emotionally,
and stopped bending over backwards
for a guy
who never appreciated it.
Who never appreciated me.
I just wish we didn't have
so many mutual friends in common.
That is unfortunate.
And I feel like a fool.
I wasted so much time
on him
and he scarred me so.
Then there is Guy #2.
I thought he was so incredible.
I thought he was so talented.
I admired him so much,
and his boldness blew me away.
That is all still true.
It was nice for me
to see that good guys
still existed
and maybe there could be
hope.
But I made
two errors in judgment
and grace seemed to be elusive
or at the very least,
it seemed hidden.
I need to be respected
and I need consistent acknowledgement.
The world is not good at that
but I need my guy to be.
Also, I am confident
that he judged me
for several negative actions
that I never did.
Truth be told,
I really am not one
to run after a guy,
especially when I have been too hurt before
and it makes me cry.
I would hope
that he would know
my character better than that,
but, alas,
maybe not.
If he never asked me
and just assumed,
then who am I to point out
that his assumptions are wrong?
I want someone who has
more faith in me
than that.
Yet
I still wish
that he has faith left in me.
But
if that is true
then I need him to show it.

Religiously Humanistic
My writings are often depicted as political.
And I am religiously humanistic.
With observations I deem as realistic.
But then again,
My nationalistic pride...
Is often interpreted as racist.
And being African-American,
I am often entertained...
By the limitations of others.
Especially those who are insistent...
To live pretensiously within them.
When my experience,
Has been primarily culturally mixed.
Afterall...
It would be extremely difficult for me,
To exist in isolation...
As those who constantly remind,
They are the majority in deed that's defined!
In such fragmented and segmented times.
With many but not most,
Elevating to a higher consciousness to boast.

I Am...FREE
I am...
FREE.
'Of what? '
Well...
What sense would it make,
To be free?
If I do not constantly,
Remind myself of it?
'Why would you have to remind yourself? '
One never knows,
What version of it...
Is more expensive to experience.
I like mine basic.
I find it more cost effective.
And besides...
I am on a fixed budget.
And that's worth reminding myself,
Just how free I am.
'I can't wait until I am free like that.
I have creditors calling me on a daily basis,
To validate my bondage.'

Slipped Away
Na na na na na na na
I miss you, Miss you so bad
I don't forget you, oh it's so sad
I hope you can hear me, I remember it clearly
The day you slipped away, was the day
I found it won't be the same
Na na na na na na na
I didn't get around to kiss you, goodbye on the hand
I wish that I could see you again, I know that I can't
I hope you can hear me, Cause I remember it clearly
The day you slipped away, was the day
I found it won't be the same
Oh, I've had my wake up, won't you wake up?
I keep askin' why. and I can't take it, it wasn't fake it
it happened you passed by
Now you're gone, now you're gone
There you go, there you go
Somewhere I can't bring you back
Now you're gone, now you're gone
There you go, there you go
Somewhere you're not coming back.
The day you slipped away, was the day
I found it won't be the same
No, the day you slipped away, was the day
I found it won't be the same
Oh...na na na na na na na
I miss you
