Developing But Not Developed
Shopping malls abound in the city
hawkers and road side stalls vanish
FUKUYAMA says there is the end of history
Ispeak from acountry which is not developed
but developing

Shopping
Were buying and selling your history
How we go about it is no mystery
We check it with the city, then change the law
Are you looking forward?
Now you want some more
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Its easy when you got all the information
Inside help, no investigation
(no investigation, investigation)
No questions in the house, no give and take
Theres a big bang in the city
Were all on the make
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Our gain is your loss, thats the price you pay
I heard it in the house of commons: everythings for sale
Were shopping
Were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
(were shopping
Were shopping
Were shopping
Were shopping
Were shopping)

Tonight the city is full of morgues, and all the toilets are overflowing. There's shopping malls coming out of the walls, as we walk out among the manure. That's why I pay no mind.

While the technology revolution has yet to reach far into the households of those in developing countries, this is certainly another area where more developed countries can assist those in the less developed world.

From The Ballrooms
Awakened into the orbit where they are
Without voices—somewhere shouting mutedly
To the remaining coyotes who have no dinner dates:
The circus and the fireworks tents
Are taken down and someone else writes a better
Novel and dreams of running away—
Ogled by truckers in the shopping malls of their
Heirlooms—as the Indians sleep downhill from
The flea markets of their gas stations—
And their dreams have no stanzas—maybe it is
Because they fought too long, and that they couldn't
Understand any of their numbers:
When they saw the goldfish in the wishing wells of
Their shopping malls, they just pissed on them—
And did not wait for the rain to leave to step outside:
They became too drunkardly for their girlfriends
Who left them for boys who could almost always be
Defined by their occupations—firefighters and werewolves,
As the lights fell away from the cities at the edge of
The world that no one cared about—far away from
The ballrooms in which almost anyone could become famous.

Happiness comes from within.
You tried to wander across in shopping malls
Finding books across book stalls
Watching movies in cinema halls
No matter what you do, your conscience crawls
You tried a Europe tour
To find 'happiness' in that endeavour
Rome, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin
Only posing in pictures with a grin
You stop and you ponder
Take a break, from routine you sunder
Inside yourself you find a cause
Produce happiness in your own warehouse
Now people read your face
Talk about your grace.
They describe the glow on your skin
You know why? because happiness comes from within.

A Brush with England
There is something
Electrifyingly alive
A spirit of great
Imaginative power
An atmosphere imbued
With history and energy
A bridge that links
The past to the present
Encompassing almost
A thousand years
All this comes alive
In the streets,
In the shopping malls,
In the art galleries,
In the museums,
In the churches
In the castles and
Most of all
In the deep country

I Believe
I believe
in the hallelujah chorus of the shopping malls
we say we cant, we know we shant, well of course we shall
Cause I've seen, I believe
That we are forever something which is incomplete
we trade ourselves for nothings and words are our conceits
I have seen, now I believe
That the ceaseless, seamless strain of your heart
One day you'll cause itself to make a start
with me,we believe
I Never thought I'd string along
I never thought we'd last this long
But we've seen, so we believe
in the hallelujah chorus of the shopping malls
we say we cant, we know we shant, of course we shall
Cause we've seen, now we believe
I Never thought I'd string along
I never thought we'd last this long
I have seen, I Believe
That we are forever something which is incomplete
we trade ourselves for nothings and words are our conceits
I have seen, I believe

Warrnambool In January
Tis warm in the full sun but in the shade tis cool
And the magpies and the mudlarks are singing in the City of Warrnambool
Their music in the Summer air where the cars buzz up and down
On Lava Street in the heart of the busy seaside Town.
A pleasant day in January a high of twenty nine degrees
And there is a nice sort of coolness in the freshening coastal breeze
And the magpies and the mudlarks pipe their distinctive melodies
Near where the traffic it is buzzing on the sunlit street trees.
In Warrnambool in January in the holiday time of year
The accents of different races in the shopping malls one does hear
Quite a nice City to visit if you are driving that way
So many people there do smile at you and bid you a good day.
An old rural City in Victoria in the coastal countryside
The famed City of Warrnambool it is known far and wide
The magpies they are fluting and the mudlarks sing pee wee
And the Summer sun is shining on the City by the sea.

on the wall
Newton
Malacca's new age
hawkers
Here at Malacca Newton foodcourt is one of the model hawker's
food outlet. There are sections for Chinese, Indian and Malay food.
The Chinese cuisine can be found at the fore, the Indian at the side and the Malay at the back of the food court. Each hawker stall has his own space to showcase his food including in the form of large pictures on the wall. You see at the back of every stall, large tasteful fare such as satay, popiah, chi cheong fun, herbal soups, porridge, fried oysters, char koey tiaw among others. There are some 30 Chinese stalls,10 Malay and eight Indian stalls. The environment is clean with wooden tables and chairs, and large Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling. There are sections where one can dine open air styled.

Shop, she shops!
Once she constantly smiled
Bought cloths and jewelry that gave her style
Shop, shop, shop
She shopped till she dropped
Shop, shop, shop
She just could not seem to stop
Her credit was on top
Her spending way rocket up
She paid with cash or credit card
This Lady was absolutely shopping mad
Shoping malls!
Markets stalls!
Shoes, clothing, and handbags she bought all year long
Spend, spend and spend daily was her beloved song
Shop, shop, shop
She now shops like a flop
Shop, shop, shop
This lady has now put a stop
Today is different shopping expedition
This time spending with supervision
No more that crazy spending addiction
Her credit card is cut
Her goods seized, the whole lot
Today she spends, her pockets hurt!
She has become street wise
Haggling with each price
She has become precise
About what she needs and not what is nice
Shop, shop, shop
She shops like a flop
Shop, shop, shop
Her spending has taken a big drop!
This lady has now put a stop to shop!

The Copenhagen Fiasco
Carbon emissions and hence climate change
Is caused by every nation, developing or developed;
Why developed nations have one target for themselves
And another for the rest of the nations?
Why this discrimination?
Pollution is the result of industrial revolution
Which is started in the west because of which
They became 'developed' and rich;
Now when every nation wants to be hub of industrialization
And part of economy and enjoy fruits of liberalization
Why all these controls and fiasco;
Let subsidies to farmers in some grand unions of nations
And protective measures against free trade amongst nations
By 'rich' nations are withdrawn;
No curbs or controls have been in implementation
All these years and recklessly nature is looted and polluted;
Now wisdom dawns
And curbs only to 'developing and poor' nations;
Is globe the exclusive property of the developed nations
About which they can do according to their whims and fancies
And only the rest of nations must bear the burden;
The highest polluting and carbon-emissions-causing 'rich' nations
Want to dictate the draft for controls
They never feeling part of the controls or curbs
And exclude themselves selectively;
Such uneven world order
Is interesting, amusing, disenchanting and irritating;
Let every one bear the responsibility
Or let the globe warm disastrously;
Selective impositions
Are not implementable
Or welcome
Let the fiasco continue

Laissez les bons temps rouler!
When death and suffering's around
And there is no one to call,
There's still a sign of life that's found
Within these silent streets and walls.
The government can screw the poor
But it can never kill their soul,
There is a spirit bright and pure -
Zydeco, Cajun and Creole.
You cannot kill the Crescent City
With contracts that would turn it all
Into a suburb looking pretty
With condos and big shopping malls.
Let them pour billions on construction
To ease the guilt of those who sold
The city's poor to face destruction
Exacted by Katrina's toll.
And when the streets are filled with laughter,
With jazz and blues to lift the soul,
Forget their phony hereafter -
Just live and let the good times roll!

My rights..
My parents take me to the Malls one after another,
Where I have seen local people and foreigners,
Young boys and girls hug and kiss each other, while shopping,
My parents did not bother to notice what I am watching,
Every Sunday we visit the Malls to shop and roam,
Until our legs are tired and then only we come back home,
Exam is nearer and I am grounded with books and tuition,
Outing, entertainment and TV all out of reach,
My father, a professional, wants me to excel,
My professional mother prays for me to succeed,
Both of them try to educate me as much as possible,
Even they may think of programming the brain of their child,
I am not as excellent as them and I want to practice,
How I was brought up. But they scold and curse,
That I am rebellious, not cultured and loose.

In Shepherd’s Bush - Hymn to Westfield
In Shepherd’s Bush, I shall not want
For anything to buy,
For Westfield shopping centre, there,
Will all my wants supply.
My spirits are restored again
When I can view the ranks
Of well-stocked, chic designer shops
E’en though I owe the banks.
Yea, though I walk through debt’s dark vale,
As I approach the till,
My credit card will comfort me,
Though I still fear the bill.
For there are tables, furniture
And presents, cushions, throws
To decorate my living room
Until it overflows.
And though the bailiffs some fine day
May try to follow me,
Still, shopping malls, my spending place
Forevermore shalt be.
