Ellie The Elephant
A local circus elephant
Was advertised for sale!
A Google search proved relevant
And showed I couldn't fail!
I drove round to the circus tent
And haggled there and then!
Not much was spent, down prices went,
Less a hundred and ten!
My trailer loaded, I drove home,
With business schemes in mind,
As long as we could weekly roam,
Some profits we would find...
The library books had much advice
On what I'd need to do
And thinking that I now was wise,
Forgot about the poo...
I wrapped a towel about my face
And shovelled poo all day!
That elephant's a real disgrace!
How much does this stuff weigh?
I bought the food in wholesale stores,
To save some pounds each week!
Back then, I wished I'd bought a horse,
To get a winning streak!
But Ellie was a cheerful soul,
As gentle as could be
And when she saw my self-control,
I think she warmed to me...
I washed her down and kept her clean,
Behind her ears as well...
I brushed her teeth and in-between,
But wondered, should I sell?
Yet Ellie's so affectionate!
With twinkles in her eyes!
She's happy here, how can I hurt
This elephant so nice?
We've been together through the years,
Two friends for all to see!
For every child that strokes her ears,
The second ride is free!

The Incubus
Who wants a nice white elephant,
Quite fit in wind and limb?
An ornament for any gent
Who can find use for him.
It won't pay us to kill the cuss;
But we can't afford his keep.
Who wants a nice white elephant?
We'll sell or lease him cheap.
Who wants a nice white elephant?
He'd make a lovely pet.
In rich, fat days we loved his way,
But in these times of fret
He's sort of grown too big for us
To fondle, groom and feed.
Who wants a fine white elephant
Of most exclusive breed?
Who wants a nice white elephant?
Of noble lineage he.
His breed is by State Jealousy
Out of Prosperity.
The rich years thro' he grew and grew,
And, ah, we loved him so.
But we can't afford his bed and board,
And we'd like to let him go.
Who'll buy a nice white elephant?
No decent bid refused.
We love him yet, altho' our pet
Has often been abused.
But come on, gents, walk up, walk up.
Our funds, alas, are scant.
Altho' we once were sold a pup
Who'll buy an elephant?

The Circus
Hey, there! Hoop-la! the circus is in town!
Have you seen the elephant? Have you seen the clown?
Have you seen the dappled horse gallop round the ring?
Have you seen the acrobats on the dizzy swing?
Have you seen the tumbling men tumble up and down?
Hoop-la! Hoop-la! the circus is in town!
Hey, there! Hoop-la! Here's the circus troupe!
Here's the educated, dog jumping through the hoop.
See the lady Blondin with the parasol and fan,
The lad upon the ladder and the india-rubber man.
See the joyful juggler and the boy who loops the loop.
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Here's the circus troupe!

The Elephant Bar
I have a simple question to ask you
Have you ever been to an Elephant bar?
Oh, you must, because it’s so quaint
One of my favorite restaurants so far
Why, everyone loves the Elephant
The statues in this place are so neat
And the food, oh such food they have
Each morsel is a scrumptious treat
I’ll tell you more about the food
Delicious in both taste and sight
Elephant size portions they advertise
They create meals that are perfectly right
Chicken salad that’s so good for you
They create the perfect blend of flavors
I always eat mine so slowly
Because it’s food that I truly savor
Take time from your busy schedule
No matter where you are
Because you MUST visit a restaurant
That is called The Elephant Bar!

If Life Was A Circus
If lide was a circus
I'd be your clown,
I'd get on your pony
ride your merry-go-
round.
if life was a circus
under your big tent,
make love with you
forever
we'd be heaven spent.
if life was a circus
in your arena we would
play,
with each other forever
forever, and a day.
but life is not a circus
I am not a clown,
all I can ever do
is watch your merry-go-
round.

An Extraordinary Friendship
There happened to be an Elephant with purple skin
Which caused many a little child, to laugh and to grin?
They considered it so strange, and so ‘out of place’
That, a cheeky smirk ne’er left each mischievous face.
They laughed so much that they even shed tears:
“A Purple Elephant, with purple ears!
Who ever heard such a ridiculous thing,
Next we’ll be hearing the Elephant sing.”
On this did continue, for many a day,
Each time he felt more hurt and full of dismay.
He thought about travelling, far, far away –
“Perhaps then, my skin will be the normal grey? ”
Thus he did reason inside his mind,
This way he would be leaving his shame behind.
But, as he thought on, he began to realise
That his shame wasn’t what they saw with their eyes
But, how they made him feel, deep inside,
All this is what continued to wound his pride.
Suddenly, one bright and cheerful day
A small Blue Mouse just happened by his way.
The Purple Elephant instinctively let out a scream
From the fear and shock, at what he had just seen!
He was just about to turn, quickly away,
When, his attention was caught, as the Blue Mouse did say:
“Please, there’s no need for you to fear me
I’m only a little, quiet Blue Mouse, as you can see.
Why is it that you’re afraid and nervous too?
Please, tell me how I can help – I would really like to.”
And so, the Purple Elephant related his troubles and woes;
How he seemed to have few friends, but much more foes.
The little Blue Mouse gave him such caring advice,
Of which he thought was ever so nice:
“Don’t you worry about how others see you,
Because, when it comes to real beauty, they haven’t a clue.
Your strength of character is something I admire.
You battle on, where others weaken and tire;
You’re tall in stature, big hearted as well.
How do I know? I’ve observed you and can tell.”
The Purple Elephant smiled, and a tear glistened in his eye,
He found her words very touching, and did thus reply:
“O thank you so much, for your kind words so true,
Now, I wonder, is there any favour I can do for you? ”
To this the Blue Mouse did humbly ask:
(Which to her, was an enormouse task)
“If you would lift me up to that delicious cheese
Then, O my soul it would really please! ”
And so, the Purple Elephant fulfilled her desire –
Upon his trunk he lifted her, higher and higher
Onto the mantelpiece where she ate her reward,
And, guess what – those cheeky children were there to applaud!
Later, in private, the Purple Elephant made mention
About her being Blue, though with some apprehension:
“Why is it you also are an unusual colour, as I?
I suppose you too have been given the quizzical eye?
The little Blue Mouse did then convey
How it is that she is Blue, right down to this day:
“I’m not an unusual colour – all the others are!
I come from a noble line, by the name of Farquar.
My famous ancestors (or, so it’s understood)
Were of the Aristocracy, with royal blood!
So my Blue colour must originate with those
Whose position was famous, and so my heart glows.”
It was obvious that she was proud of being Blue,
She was only ‘unusual’ because she was one of ‘the few’.
This, the Purple Elephant readily took to heart,
He thought his attitude was like a poison dart
That, very quickly affects the body, in every part.
Her attitude made him feel of a ‘special’ kind,
And so, he determined to bear in mind
That we can make ourselves feel like a king or slave,
It all depends on how we behave.
Since that day when, true friends they became,
Their strong bond, their rapport, does still remain.
This extraordinary friendship has yet to be broken,
And their loyalty has often been spoken
Throughout many of England’s villages and towns,
And the birds in the trees also, make agreeable sounds.
Yes, the Purple Elephant continues to be a reliable friend,
And both their loyalties have ne’er been seen to bend.
When a mouse comes across the path of an elephant,
We all know which one will rave, and will rant –
Yet, there’s a difference in this story that’s true,
Of a Purple Elephant that made friends with a mouse quite Blue.
Usually, from a Mouse, an Elephant will run away,
But, this occurrence was unique, in a most special way;
The Blue Mouse was prepared to dispel his fears,
And, with a little love, did melt away his tears.
In response, the Purple Elephant, a favour did grant,
And, on his cheek, a gentle kiss she did plant.
From that moment, this extraordinary friendship did begin,
And, apart from appearances, they seemed kith and kin.
The moral of this story is: Do not go by
The appearance on the outside or, it will end in a sigh.
And when you think others look at you with disgust,
Always seek out true friends, those you can trust.
Because of this friendship, perhaps it may be true
That the familiar saying (oft said by me and you)
Was first uttered in a determined breath,
“An Elephant never forgets” – right down to his death.

Animal Sentimentality
Animal Sentimentality
If I told and elephant it was the biggest land animal
in the world, would it trumpet this good news around
and be bigheaded, or be envious the elegant giraffe,
for its lovely eyes, long neck and splendid view?
On the pristine sandy beach, near the Nordic town,
a rare, long legged bird landed, it was so beautiful
that it was shot next day for its feathers, the paper
that reported the crime had black borders that day.
An elephant isn’t cute, walks arduously, cranky eyes,
once saw an elephant foot, used as an umbrella stand,
bought its owner was on holiday in Africa, this made
me so gloomy that I peed into the foot before leaving.
I should have said something at once, hit him and left
in a righteous huff, but had also brought bottles of
whisky; yes, I do have soft heart for animals, bit booze
is dear in Sweden; mind, I never visited him again.

This Is Why
The elder of a pair of twins - my lil sis suddenly
called - Please open the gate, I'm waiting outside;
I went out, there she was on a BIG motorbike, she
explained taxman said we tax your business unless
you spend - she and life partner bought BIG motor-
bikes, riding to a Hotel - Formula One
Overwhelmed, never knew she and Pete - Petrus in
local parlance - had to fight taxman to keep enterprise
going; she bought an enormous scooter - 650 CC and
Pete bought a 1 050 CC - they drove off to Musina; the
back of the beyond where large trucks pass on their way
to far-off Zimbabwe and Mozambique
My lil sis drove till they tackled the mountains where she
was too tired to continue; Pete stopped, someone else
drove the rest of the way; she picked up by car; they
arrived safely - she has fun with her paintings, pool
and most important, taking care of Mom and Dad -
her mind is occupied; though
She feels smothered by too much well-being, a strange
concept to her - I wonder whether she understands -
this is why I hang on to hubby - myself?

When The Carousel Amimals Got Loose.....[LONG; Humor; Fantasy; Adventure]
In the park for peoples' amusement……
were some workers with an accusement.
T'was on the merry-go-round
where they were all found,
feeling their labor was abusement.
These workers who labored without wages,
were taken from storybook pages.
They were most of them mild...
though some were beasts 'wild'.
Some were loved, some were feared, through the ages.
Three were birds, though one never could fly;
two, that could, rarely took to the sky.
Six of them were mammals...
though none were humped-camels.
One was make-believe, from days-gone-by.
All, including Elephant and Goose,
Unicorn, and big-antlered Moose,
Rooster and Lion,
Ostrich (not flyin') ,
Horse and Tiger, ...all wished to be loose.
Freedom from 'Go-Round' they had discussed.
Then one fine fall day it just seemed a must.
No people were in sight....
(a good time for their 'flight') .
That their plan would succeed, they all did trust.
Unicorn's horn worked Tiger's tether,
loosening its tight knot of leather.
Then Elephant's trunk tip
off Tiger's knot did rip.....
They freed Tiger, working together.
The first thing he did was flex his paws.
Then he freed all his friends, using sharp claws.
They took their bridles off.
Their saddles they did slough.
They stretched their stiff legs and tight jaws.
To be free, for them, was something new.
They'd not all yet thought what they would do.
They were free of their poles.
A bright sun warmed their souls.
Though not human, they'd have some fun too! ! !
Ms. Ostrich tried to fly, but in vain.
Then Rooster and Goose cried 'there's a plane! '
So Ms. Goose and sir Rooster
together did boost her.
And the three rode with Horse, the wind blowing his mane.
Getting off the ride, they were all woozy.
They agreed the ride was a doozy.
And while their five friends cavorted,
the four honked and snorted.
Then they lay in the shade for a snoozy.
' Tiger, let's ride the coaster' said Lion.
'I don't like planes, and I don't like flyin '.'
So while they both rolled along
Tiger sang an old song.
Lion held tight, but ended up cryin '.
Elephant sniffed the cart of peanut vendor.
The peanut smell to 'heaven' did 'send' her.
She ate nuts (shells and all)
till her appetite did fall,
then she rested against a truck fender.
The fantasy beast preferred popcorn,
so he opened the popper with his horn.
Then Unicorn washed his snack down
with a drink, colored brown,
in which floated marshmallows, 'newborn'.
In the Fun House Moose looked in mirrors (curved) .
Then through a dark maze Moose swerved.
Big Moose felt like a fool
when scared by a fake ghoul,
and she ran out of Fun House unnerved.
When their long day was nearly all done
They agreed they'd all had some fun.
Then as it was getting late
one of them tried lock on park gate,
but as a group they chose not to run.
Though freedom was nice for a while
they agreed they'd miss each bright smile…..
of each happy child-rider
and each grown up beside her.
So they all returned to 'go-round', single file.

Circus of the Impossible
A clown was bargaining with my mother
for my father's life.
He gave me toys
and told me to call him,
'Uncle'.
Thick-lipped, I heard him
claim his kisses could arouse
any woman in a large tent.
Four years old,
so happy to be a part
of this small circus.
The elephant's comforting odor
when my mother was
too busy to buy me
the cotton candy-
so pretty pink.

Long Live Madhu And 'Minkey
Madhu wrote a wonderful poem
named 'Jungle for sale', in her class
If Madhu is not writing a poem
like this, especially by a girl
who is living and studying in UK,
who else will write it.
Madhu went with her friend Mary for shopping
She wanted to buy a baby Kangaroo leaping;
Fortunately there were no elephants,
she can't tie in her yard, the jungle elephant,
she can't also feed the white elephant;
she bought a baby monkey,
He is quiet with rap-around arms and tail,
He will be hereafter called 'Minkey';
Long live Madhu and 'Minkey'
with her sister Nivi and Pinky.

The Blind Men and the Elephant
It was six men of Hindostan
To learning much inclined
Who went to see the Elephant
[Though all of them were blind];
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.
The first approached the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"Bless me, it seems the Elephant
Is very like a wall."
The second, feeling of his tusk,
Cried, "Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp.
To me ‘tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear."
The third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Then boldly up and spake:
"I see, " quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a snake."
The fouth stretched out his eager hand
And felt about the knee,
"What most this mighty beast is like
Is mighty plain, " quoth he:
"'Tis clear enough, the Elephant
Is very like a tree."
The fifth who chanced to touch the ear
Said, "Even the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a fan."
The sixth, no sooner had began
About the beast to grope,
Than, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
"I see, " cried he, "the Elephant
Is very like a rope."
And so these men of Hindostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right
And all were in the wrong.

Rattled
It's been a week since I spotted that elephant
Brazenly grazing just beyond my bed,
And it's been five days since the folks
From the hospital said they could help
Me, and I ran, instead, and it's been a
Weekend of terror, I tell you, from here
In this alley. The rodents can smell you,
And they, and their bipedal vermin
Allies like to lay siege to better-born
Souls, such as I, and I'm cold now
And frightened and would like a meal,
So I'm thinking of giving up. What
Would I feel if I said, 'Yes, sedate
Me, and show me what's real? '
Would my elephant leave me
For Africa's plains, and the rodents
Stop biting down into my brains,
And the white-wrapped erasers
Who'll haul me away promise
Candies and crayons to brighten
My stay? Or will I disappear into
Numb, normal nothingness, suited
And seated each day on the bus,
Someone else with a nagging
Remembrance of he, who existed
At some point, and then ceased
To be? .

Circus
Little man with his eyes on fire
And his smile so bright.
In his hands are the toys you gave
To fill his heart with delight.
And in the ring stands a circus clown
Holding up a knife.
What you see and what you will hear
Will last you for the rest of your life.
And its sad, so sad,
There aint no easy way round.
And its sad, so sad,
All you friends gather round
cause the circus left town.
Little man with his heart so pure
And his love so fine.
Stick with me and Ill ride with you
Till the end of the line.
Hold my hand and Ill walk with you
Through the darkest night.
When I smile Ill be thinking of you
And every little thing will be all right.

Crazy Circus (just a wrap)
Crazy Circus (just a wrap)
We’re runnin’ like chickens with our heads cut off,
Squealing like piggies round the old food trough,
Stuck on a treadmill and we can’t get off,
It’s a crazy circus
Lost and confused, walkin in a trance,
Common sense needs a second chance,
But time is runnin out gotta change our stance,
Such a crazy circus
Just lookin’ for respect we think we know
But the real truth is you reap what you sow
Under the bigtop we’re up on the stage
Spillin’ and killin’ lost in a rage
Why can’t we just turn the page
Of this crazy circus
Strutin’ our stuff actin’ real cool
Posin’ in the mirror ready for a duel
Now who do you think is the real fool
What a crazy circus
The old ringmaster we’re the main attraction
Always lookin’ for some kind of action
Spinnin’ our wheels losin’ our traction
In this crazy circus
Just lookin’ for respect we act like we know
But the real truth is you reap what you sow

Elephant
Hating you is easy
Because I have loved you with equal measure
Known the art of dissapointment when left behind to ponder on a rainy
afternoon
The elephant that's sitting on the sofa in the middle of the room
Today it's me and him you left us long ago
To work out what is left of the happy ever after, not quite so
So I am courteous and polite and give the elephant a drink
From a large red plastic bucket that I filled up at the sink
He tells me in a whisper you've been seeing someone else
And it has been a year or more I been left upon the shelf
Unloved but not lonely I know love's too good to be true
But now i'm talking not ignoring,
The elephant in the room.

Nice To See Ya!
Nice to see ya,
Let's have a chat,
We can talk of
This and that.
How ya doing?
Any news?
What you knowing?
Any clues?
See our Annie?
She's a case,
Tripped up, fell
And cut her face.
Bruises all over,
Stitches too,
Poor old soul,
She's black and blue.
Ellie's husband,
He's no good,
Went and left her,
Knew he would.
Said she didn't
Mind at all,
Don't believe her,
She loves Paul.
Charlie's wife,
Is overdue,
Still don't know,
If it's a Prue or Hugh.
They'll take her in
Before too long,
They won't leave her,
Hanging on.
Had a phone call,
From cousin Ila,
She's bought a dog,
A young rockweiller.
How she'll manage,
Goodness knows,
Jack and her
Will come to blows!
Well it's nice
To see ya Dot,
I've prattled on,
Now what ya got!

Elephant On The Telephone
There’s an elephant on the telephone
Who wants to make a trunk call
To the elegant but pleasant gent
That he calls his negligent uncle
Who had forgotten, since he’s not
An elephant with great foresight,
To tie a tight knot upon the spot
In his cotton handkerchief, a fortnight
Ago in November, so he’d remember
That December’s the time for going shopping
For expensive gifts he intends to fit
In the elephant’s huge Christmas stocking.
