When Bin Laden Came To Breakfast

When Bin Laden came for breakfast
We were quite surprised
He just sat smiling gently
With no menace in his eyes

Can I have my bacon crispy?
He asked with a warm grin
Up there in Afghanistan
The food is rather grim.

May I make one small suggestion
It would really make my day
If I could have some hash browns
Made the McDonalds way?

By now his talk was easy
The topics they ranged wide
And there was truly passion
Clear showing in his eyes.

Now pass me some more hash browns
And I'll tell you what I've learned
I've learned the West's not feeble
And its strength on it I've turned
I don't go chasing rainbows
And I know my weaknesses
But Bush he only thinks of strengths
Not what weaknesses are his.

At this he looked contented
He'd wiped his plate full clean
And then I was awoken
As if from out a dream.

It Is as Much a Sin to Not Recognize One's Own Strengths

The Torah teacher taught on Tisha B’Av

‘It is as much a sin to not recognize one’s own strengths
As it is to not attempt to correct one’s weaknesses
The spies refused to see the strengths of the people and the land of Israel
They reported on weaknesses and fears only’

Am I the spy of myself?
And do I do nothing but lament what I am not?
Why don’t I recognize
What I have done and what I can do?

I can after all write another small poem
Even if it means using the wisdom given on our day
Of greatest national tragedy
For my own small good.

While You Were Gone

Hmm, whoa, yeah, oh baby, hmm, oh
I read you wrong
You said youd only be away a while
But the days turned into weeks
And all the weeks into miles
Baby why?
You couldve told me you were telling me goodbye
Couldve come clean and let me walk away in style, oh
Funny thing is
While I was missing you
While I was figuring what I was gonna do
1 - I got wise, I got hip
I caught on to your tricks
I got over it real quick, yeah baby
While you were gone
Now Im cool, cant you tell
Feel so good about myself
A funny thing happened to me baby
While you were gone
Oh, you looked surprised
Like no one ever left you and survived, no
Well leaving me alone has kind of opened my eyes
Baby you, you gave me the time to find somebody new
And I found strength inside me I never knew, oh
Funny thing is
While he was holding me
While he was showing me how its suppose to be
Repeat 1
Repeat 1 with ad-libs by kelly
Didnt freak, didnt cry
I just held my head up high
I learned how to say goodbye
While you were gone
Had time on my hands
Baby dont you understand
A funny thing happened to me baby
While you were gone
Had nothing but time on my hands
Learned how to understand boy
Got over you, got over you, oh
While he was holding me
While he was showing me how its suppose to be
Oh baby
Repeat 1
While you were gone, oh
Learned to lie, learned a lesson
Learned how to get along, learned how to be strong
Learned how to love myself, while you were gone, ooh, oh

The 'Potato' Poem

I love potatoes chopped up into chunky chips.
I love spicy potato wedges, served up with dips.
I love potato slices which have been fried in a pan:
Of sautéed potatoes, I am the world's biggest fan.

I love potatoes which have been pummelled and bashed
With butter and milk to make a real light, fluffy mash.
Jacket potatoes, I find a bit dry, but with a nice filling
Such as chilli, to give them a try, I am more willing.

With breakfast, I love hash browns or potato cakes,
And I love potatoes mixed up with leeks in a bake.
Crispy, golden potatoes, served up with Sunday roast
Are among the kinds of potato which I love the most.

Mixed in soups and casseroles, I love potatoes diced.
On top on minced beef hotpot, I love potatoes sliced.
Fluffy potato stuffed inside a crispy potato croquette
Is also rather nice, and, for me, it is another safe bet.

I love potatoes cut into crisps: the slices, wafer thin,
And, as a starter, I simply love loaded potato skins:
I do adore a delicious dish of Bombay potato curry:
For me, it is a taste which I won't forget in a hurry.

I like potatoes diced up with creamy mayonnaise,
Served up with salad on really hot summer days.
But I don't like potatoes which have been boiled:
From potatoes, cooked this way, in horror, I recoil.

Been Smoking Too Long

Well I wake up in the morning
Look at my clock
Its way past noon time
Now Im late for work.
Tell me, tell me
What have I done wrong?
Aint nothing go right with me
Must be Ive been smoking too long.
Well I go to find me some breakfast
But I aint got no food
Take me a shower
But the water dont feel no good.
Tell me...
Ive got opium in my chimney
No other life to choose
Nightmare made of hash dreams.
Got the devil in my shoes
Tell me...
Well when Im smoking
Put my worries on a shelf
Dont think about nothin
Try not to see myself.
Tell me...
Well in this blues Im singin
Theres a lesson to be learned
Dont go around smokin
Unless you want to get burned.
Tell me...

The Priest

The priest sat in the airport bar
He was wearing his fathers tie
And his eyes looked into my eyes so far
Whenever the words ran dry
Behind the lash and the circles blue
He looked as only a priest can, thru
And his eyes said me and his eyes said you
And my eyes said, let us try
He said, you wouldnt like it here
No its no place you should share
The roof is ripped with hurricanes
And the room is always bare
I need the wind and I seek the cold
He reached post the wine for my hand to hold
And he saw me young and he saw me old
And he saw me sitting there
Then he took his contradictions out
And he splashed them on my brow
So which words was I then to doubt
When choosing what to vow
Should I choose them all-should I make them mine
The sermons, the hymns and the valentines
And he asked for truth and he asked for time
And he asked for only now
Now the trials are trumpet scored
Oh will we pass the test
Or just as one loves more and more
Will one love less and less
Oh come lets run from this ring were in
Where the christians clap and the germans grin
Saying let them lose, crying let them win
Oh make them both confess

Bush Hay

The stamp of Scotland is on his face,
But he sailed to the South a lad,
And he does not think of the black bleak hills
And the bitter hard youth he had;
He thinks of a nearer and dearer past
In the bright land far away,
When the teams went up and the teams came down,
In the days when they made bush hay.

The fare was rough and the bush was grim
In the “years of his pilgrimage”,
But he gained the strength that is still with him
In his hale, late middle age.
He thinks of the girl at the halfway inn
They use as a barn to-day—
Oh, she was a dumpling and he was thin
In the days when they made bush hay.

The ration teams to the Bathurst Plains
Were often a fortnight full.
And they branched all ways in the early days
And back to the port with wool.
They watched for the lights of old Cobb & Co.
That flashed to the West away,
When drivers drove six on a twelve-mile stage
In the days when they made bush hay.

He has made enough, and he’s sold his claim,
And he goes by the morning train,
From the gold-field town in the sultry West
To his home by the sea again,
Where a bustling old body’s expecting him
Whose hair is scarcely grey,
And she was the girl of the halfway house
In the days when they made bush hay.

Inner Light

My inner lights shines, but I go to the darkness.
Why must I always look at my weaknesses?
I know they are there, and on them, I obsess?
They try to consume me.
I believe the lies they tell me.
They are the true robbers of my joy.
They want the power of my light.
They crave to become greater than my strengths.
They will, if I let them.
Others remind me of them, like critics watching my story.
Maybe they should focus on their own.
Believe your own lies.
Give power to them.
Become your own critics.
Maybe their giants must be too big.
If they make mine bigger than theirs, they will feel better.
So I won't let them.
My light will shine so bright, it will cover the darkest areas of my being.
My strengths will slay my weaknesses.
The giant is afraid of the light.
It will run, it will cower,
Though, it won't give up without a fight.
Nor will I.
Deflect it lies, like arrows with my shield.
I will let my light consume it.
I will lock them up,
In the prison, they kept me in for so long.
When they become the prisoner,
Then, I am truly free.

What I Learned From Loving You

Sometimes I still think of you
Love thats gone by and the things that I do.
Time heals hearts, so they all say
Passing of years slowly pulls the pain away
Oh, theres still a little tenderness
Left in everything I do
Its what I learned from loving you.
Its what I learned from loving you.
Times have changed, I have changed too
Even my eyes turned a deeper shade of blue
I guess its all that crying we went through
Its what I learned from loving you.
Its what I learned from loving you.
Well, I had too much to learn
To hold on to someone like you
It took losing you to make me see
The man you needed me to be.
I dont cry though were apart
And some day soon someone else
Will need this heart
Oh, next time Im gonna know
When a love is true
Its what I learned from loving you.
Its what I learned from loving you...

The things I love with a passion

I rock and roll with passion
I talk out my soul with a passion

I eat good food with passion
I defeat bad mood with a passion

I sleep well with passion
I weep hell with a passion

I dream endlessly with passion
I gleam ceaselessly with a passion

I aim for money with passion
I do the same for honey with a passion

I listen carefully with passion
I glisten dutifully with a passion

I search for fame with passion
I research to blame with a passion

I walk everyday with passion
I talk and play with a passion

I embrace life with passion
I face nightlife with a passion

I laugh out with passion
I chaffe about with a passion

I cook with others with passion
I look at mothers with a passion

I touch gently with passion
I clutch tightly with a passion

I work hard with a passion
I rock mad with a passion

I gear up goals with passion
I stir up roles with a passion

I make friends with passion
I take weekends with a passion

I love kissing with passion
I love teasing with a passion

I make love with passion
I take from above with a passion

If push comes to shove
Label me old fashioned
For these are things I caption
In life with all my passion

Wash Your Own Plate

Too little
Too late
The heat of it has gone.
The passion and desire...
Once on fire,
Has moved on!
I tried to warn you,
The flicker was fast fading.
But you dismissed this
As a need for space and distance.
And my words you spent time evading!
Too little
Too late
For fresh scramble eggs,
With bacon and pancakes!
Or a taste of coffee
To sip between us two.
I will remember these kitchen visits...
But nothing else will do.
After learning how your weaknesses,
Lead you to screw someone new!
Too little,
Too late!
I'm full of what I've eaten...
It's time to wash your own plate!

First Year University Expereinces

I learned why it is not wise to skip class often

I learned that skipping homework in university is not the same as skipping homework in high school

I learned what it feels like to be awake for over 2 days

I learned how to smoke pot from a bong

I learned how to compose an essay the day before it's due

I learned that the Freshman 15 is no joke

I learned how to do laundry

I learned to pretend to be happy

I learned to multitask

I learned to be more sociable

I learned why my parents and teachers warned me about the difficulty of university

I learned that failing is expensive

I learned small things, like freshly washed bed sheets, make me happy
I learned to lie

I learned how expensive alcohol is

I learned what it feels like to be a failure

I type this rant while skipping my business ethics class as I further delay the composition of my psychology term paper

A Mess Of Catfish

A mess of catfish on his plate,
they were crispy as he ate.
Bestest time he ever had
goin' fishin' with his dad.
Went at night. His momma said
'It's too late, time for bed.'
Dad complained and said to her
'It's time he learned what nighttime's fer.'
And so it was he learned to fish.
And so it was he got his wish.
He still goes fishin' late at night
and thinks of dad when the catfish bite.

What I Learned Today

What I learned today is that there will be a tomorrow,
what I learned today is the truth is full of pain and sorrow.

What I learned yesterday is people make mistakes,
what I learned yesterday is I will do whatever it takes.

What I learned Saturday when i watched you leave I take back
what I said, what I learned Saturday is when we fought i dread.

What I learned now is that part of my heart is gone,
what I learned now is you will no longer wake me up at dawn.

It is quiet with out you,
I feel I have many things to do.

To The One Who Keeps Looking On Those Walls

you shall hear no sad word from us
we are silent because of you
we are watching a clear pond this summer
away from you

do not ever think that we entertain anger
we have long set that aside like rags
come to us, we are forming a circle
we are connecting our hands like a perimeter fence

we are praying for understanding to come
like droplets of lights from the skies like meteorites
talk to us, look straight to our eyes
there is no reason for an embarrassment

look at all of us and see how you can manage this journey
you must win this game of weaknesses
you are looking at those walls where you cannot pass through
come, look at our eyes that love you still: you shall win this game

you must, what is the use of our presence here now
when you dissolve like ice on a hot desert day
come, look at us, we had been there, and we shall not return
look at our eyes now, and take the power:
you must win this game, you must!

With Fay on a Bus.

The bus moved away
from the bus stop
and Fay sat next to you

her body rocking
side to side
with the motion

of the bus
her knees pushing
against each other

her hands in a prayer like pose
upon her knees
Are you going

to the cinema?
she asked
Yes

you replied
The Globe
That old fleapit?

she said smiling
her lips parting
showing

small white teeth
What are you going to see?
A cowboy film I think

you said
Why don't you come too?
I can't

I haven't any money
she said
Besides my dad

wouldn't like it
he thinks films
are the Devil's work

she looked out
at the passing view
you studied her thumbs

rubbing over each other
her nails pink
and polished

like small shells
He needn't know
you said

I wouldn't tell
she turned her head
and said

I would know
and he would know
by the look

in my eyes
he knows I always
tell the truth

and never tell lies
you put a hand over hers
and her thumbs

became still
and her hand
touched yours

Maybe one day
she said
I will.

Pooh Bear and CR Discuss Truth

Wol’s nephew had found a piece of torn paper in the Wood, which said ‘Truth is…’ and took it back, rather wet and smudgy, to Wol.

Word got around that Wol’s nephew, who was learning to read, had asked Wol what came next… However, most of the Animals were not very interested, as they went about their busy lives.

But Pooh Bear, who’d heard CR use the word about A Certain Incident, was walking paw in hand with CR through the wood one crispy day, and because there weren’t any other Big Thoughts floating around saying ‘Look at me! ’, said ‘CR, what is truth? ’

Christopher Robin looked down lovingly at Beloved Bear, like you do when you admire someone for asking a Big Question, but aren’t sure quite what to say next…

‘Well, Pooh, ’ he said at last, ‘there’s truth with a small t – like when somehow a plate has jumped out of your hands onto the floor and broken itself, and grown-ups don’t quite believe this, and say, tell me the truth…’

Pooh recognised this. Hunny jars did the same thing sometimes, when you reach for them on the shelf and wonder why they wanted to fall like that…

‘And there’s Truth with a capital T, that grown-ups put on their best clothes and sit around, with a cup or glass of something, and talk about... but without dropping their cup or glass or anything…’

Pooh had never sat around when this happened. That was the time for being with CR upstairs.

‘It’s difficult to follow what they say, so I watch their faces, Pooh..

‘There’s Nodding Their Heads Truth. There’s Smiling But Only a Bit and Not for Long Truth. There’s Eyes Open Wide Truth. There’s Being Very Still For a Time Truth. And there’s Nodding And Smiling With the Eyes Too And Remembering, Truth…There seem to be diff’rent kinds of Truth, Pooh…’

Pooh suddenly felt very five-to-fourish after so much about grown-ups and their complicated lives, so he and CR turned and walked back in silence.

Later after a Little Something, Pooh stood in front of the big mirror in CR’s nursery, and tried on all these Faces of Truth.. feeling, well maybe, and yes possibly, and wait until tomorrow, by turns.. and then, he felt really quite tired…

Christopher Robin picked him up; saying fondly, 'Silly old Bear...'

Thru My Eyes

Its never where you think youll find it
The thing you think youre looking for
It could take you all your lifetime
And still youd never quite be sure
You could look everywhere
Because you know its there
Somewhere beneath the sky
But too close and youll get burned
Theres no lesson learned
Yet some people pass it by
Youll see things different when you look thru my eyes
Things are different if you see what I see
Just look closely and youll see thru my eyes
It could be different, youll see how it could be,
If you can see
You may need help to find your way home
Those who brought you here have flown
The road you take is full of hope or sadness
The choice you make will be your own
But youre not alone in there
Just say hello in there
Cos there are many just like you
Theyll help you find someway
To make it all the way
Theyll tell you all you have to do
Youll see things different when you look thru my eyes
Things are different if you see what I see
Just look closely and youll see thru my eyes
It could be different, youll see how it could be,
If you can see
No one warns you of the heartache
No one can hide you from the storm
But from the shadows there will come the sunshine
A place to dry and keep you warm
Though no one tells you how
Your hearts beating faster now
Getting stronger day by day
Suddenly its clear, what you seek is near
Its what you learn along the way
Its never where you think youll find it
The thing you think you re looking for
Well it could take you all your lifetime
Still youll never quite be sure
Youll find it, just look closer
