Silliness Is My Middle Name

Silliness is my middle name
and silliness is my claim to fame.
Therefore, if you want a laugh or two
just come along to Dodgy Dave’s grotto
and he will make you smile.
He may look like a beanpole
with a dog collar around his neck,
but you will be guaranteed
he will never use the phrase “Oh Heck”.
He has loads of silly rhymes
that make no sense at all.
His wife thinks he was born
and they live down on the Funny Farm.
This poem was written
to make no sense at all.
Just another bit of his silliness
he likes to share with one and all.

Rose Across The Sea

For My Good Friend JoAnn McGrath

Not so long ago I was joking
with a young lady across sea.
I told her that I was a vicar,
or at least pretend one.
My name was Dodgy Dave the Vicar.
A little while later
she wrote a poem aptly named,
The Vicar Is Quicker.

Since then she has written
quite a number more.
I tell her a funny story about me.
No sooner do I tell her the story
it appear as a Dodgy Dave Poetry.
In the time I have known her
not once have, I wrote a poem for her,
that rose across the sea.

She thinks of me as her big brother.
I find that as a compliment you see,
as my own real sister
does not want to know me.
Therefore, I have an adopted one
far away from me,
a rose across the sea.

Therefore, Joann
this poem is just for you,
from your friend,
that Dodgy quicker vicar
who rhymes with liquor.
A substance he never touches,
but I will raise my cup of tea
and say again,
this poem is just for you,
my rose across the sea.

Secret Of My Success

The secret of my success
is that I’m as crazy as a coot.
I am so full of silliness
my wife often denies she is with me.
When I get dressed for parties
and someone is giving me a lift
they shove me in the backseat
telling me to duck down
as far as I can get
as they do not want to be seen
with a crazy man in their car.
My answer to all this,
is that we need a few crazy people
who are just like me,
to bring a smile around,
stop everyone getting bored.
My motto is quite simple
a smile a day
keeps the miseries at bay;
a laugh is a dropp of sunshine
to those who wear a frown.
Maybe I should have a craziness day
so everyone can join in
and have as our trademark
a big lop-sided GRIN.

(Dodgy Dave Tale) Plastic Flowers

(Dodgy Dave Tale) Plastic Flowers

This is another Dodgy Dave Tale that goes out
To all the romantics that have their doubts
See Dodgy states he is unromantically inclined
That could leave poor Vera maligned
(Vera his wife that this story is behind)

You see when your in love with a man
Women expect romantic gifts not just a hand
And Vera felt a little slighted here
Because it was flowers she lacked from her dear

So one day his wife and Dodgy Dave
Went out on the town not to misbehave
They decided to go to a Car Boot Sale
(Don't ask me what that is Dave knows that tale)

As they were walking along that day
Dodgy Dave came upon a plastic flower bouquet
Well he picked the thing up
And thought to himself...what luck
Now I have flowers to give to my gal
And she will think of me as her romantic pal

The moral of this silly story here
Is if you want to be unromantically clear
Give your loved one plastic flowers instead
And in return for your supper expect water and brown bread

Mistake

The mistake is bitter not better,
Some of us make mistakes all hated,
Some spring their eyes in death,
Letting us wield the knife
Until the murder is a mistake.

The mistakes prevent big questions,
Fully answerable,
The rest of the folly is a work of the Devil,
The one who asks silliness when he appears.

If i didn't have you

If I didn't have a friend like you,
I'm afraid I don't know what I would do,
You saved me,
Brought me through my darkest days,
I hurt you,
And i never forgive myself for that,
But i need you to know,
How much you mean to me,
As you are the greatest,
The bestest,
The specialist,
Friend that anyone could ever hope for,
And all though i'm not the best,
I hope you know that you are special to me,
i thank you,
for not judging me,
For getting to know me,
And for putting up with my silliness,
My hyponess,

You are the best friend,
Anyone could ever wish for,
So next time you're feeling down,
remember how you make me feel,
And how you always cheer me up.

The Poem About The Poem About The Poem

THE POEM ABOUT THE POEM ABOUT THE POEM

The poem about the poem about the poem
Written in dream
And forgotten in sleep
Comes back to me slowly now
As if it had been away on a long long journey
And is reluctant to come home-

I write it
But it really writes me
And when I try to make sense of what it means
It tells me its ambiguities
Are more important and interesting
Than my clarity-

The poem about the poem about the poem
Written now
May not be a poem about a poem about a poem at all
But may merely be my own playing with words
Which take the place in my life
Of really living-

A poem about a poem about a poem?
Surely this is a mysterious thing
If it exists at all.

The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widespread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible.

Making Sense

if our choice of words
is smooth and reserved like
a lady educated in a state university
they say we make sense,

if you are rich and flamboyant
and ride in flashy cars and live
in expensive mansions in exclusive
subdivisions, then by all means
you make sense

despite the fact that you are
immoral, and treacherous and
scheming and oppressive and
congenitally lying with your teeth grinning,

to them you still make sense
they still want to be pictured beside you
and you make them your own property
as they all adore and worship you,

i don't.

Common Sense

You cant live together
You cant live alone
Considering the weather
Oh my, how youve grown
From the men in the factories
To the wild kangaroo
Like those birds of a feather
Theyre gathering together
And feeling
Exactly like you
They got mesmerized
By lullabies
And limbo danced
In pairs
Please lock that door
It dont make much sense
That common sense
Dont make no sense
No more
Just between you and me
Its like pulling
When you ought to be shovin,
Like a nun
With her head in the oven
Please dont tell me
That this really wasnt nothing
One of these days
One of these nights
Youll take off your hat
And theyll read you
Your rights
Youll wanna get high
Every time you feel low
Hey, queen isabella
Stay away from that fella
Hell just get you
Into trouble, you know?
But they came here by boat
And they came here by plane
They blistered their hands
And they burned out their brain
All dreaming a dream
Thatll never come true
Hey, dont give me no trouble
Or Ill call up my double
Well play piggy-in-the-middle
With you
Youll get mesmerized
By alibis
And limbo dance in pairs
Please lock that door
It dont make much sense
That common sense
Dont make no sense
No more

Love Or Money

{b-side of kiss}
(love or money) {repeat in song}
Baby, nothing come 4 free now
If u want 2 be with me now
Whats it gonna be now?
Is it love or is it money?
Tell me, tell me whats your name?
Whats your claim 2 fame?
U see, I dont like silly games
Is it love or is it money?
Tell me whats on your mind?
Are we just makin time?
Will our spirits rhyme?
Is it love or is it money? yeah
Showtime, uh
Im gonna shake my hips 2 the east
Shake my hip 2 the west
Till u make up your mind
That my hip is the best
I said uh
I said baby, let me take u by the hand
Make u understand
That i... I aint no silly man
Got 2 let me know, is it love or is it money?
Nothing come 4 free now
If u want 2 be with me now
Whats it gonna be now?
Is it love or is it money? yeah
Listen
Talk a little
Take u by the hand
Make u understand
That I aint no silly man
He was bad, he was fresh
All the women say he was the best
He had money up 2 his neck
But it didnt mean a heck
The boy was in need of some diehard pussy
The kinda drawers that last
Heck-a-buff, good god, I wantcha
Love
Baby, baby, baby...
(love or the money) {x3}
We could play 4 days
If u get tired, uh, give me that mayonnaise
Revolution, put the groove on the bus
Dont worry about me, dont worry about us
Hey, baby
Hey, what it is
Love or money {x2}
Showtime, uh!
What?
I... i...
Nothing come 4 free now
If u wanna be with me now
Ah, dont get me wrong mama
U, heck-a-buff, I wantcha
U got 2 let me know, yeah
Revolution, put the groove on the bus
Out of town, lord, dont worry about us
Gimme that, gimme that vaseline
Oh, got 2 slide, the girls know what I mean
Uh, lord
Cool, cool, cool, cool
Let it loose, let it loose
What it is
Love
