Maelstrom Of Memories

Walking down a street
where we lived many years ago,
the faces behind the doors
are not the same anymore.
As we walk, we look back
at a time that inherited our name.
Remembering the times there
in the maelstrom of memories
that come flooding back
to haunt us with faces
of that long ago.
Our head spins as we walk
stepping back into our yesterdays
with its happiness, sadness
and grief that came our way.
We stumble over things
we had forgotten long ago
as we are overtaken
in a maelstrom of memories.

Home Away From Home

I walk down the small path
bordered either side by bluebells.
As I walk down the path
which I have done hundreds of times before.
There is a stirring in the trees,
which prompts my memories,
of faces that have come and gone
over the passing years.
Also comes back the laughter
that never seems to subside
and all the jokes
we’ve played on one another.
I smiled as I stopped for a moment
to look around at everything there.
It seems like only yesterday
that I came along here,
but in reality, the years have flown by.
Some faces I remember
will never be coming back to visit,
while the others I might see someday.
Even when the sad day comes
when I can’t come anymore.
I will leave with many photographs
in my memory store.
A few more steps I take
and the town comes into view
along with friendly faces
on the boardwalks there.
There are a few whose names I forget,
but the faces I know so well
in this little town
I call my home away from home.

Can’t Hold Back The Years

I sit here reading the letter
as my tears smudge the ink.
I can’t hold them back
no more than I could
hold back the years.
The words say you have left me
that you’ve moved out today.
That you won’t be coming back
no matter what I say.

I sit with my head bowed
remembering good time we had.
Remembering the sorrow and sadness
that followed in the good times wake.
Remembering those precious moments,
we wanted to last forever,
but disappeared at the blink of an eye.
I can’t hold back the years
nor the tears I cry.

Tomorrow heralds a brand new day,
a brand new start some would say.
When we should erase yesterdays
and start a new life,
but it isn’t that easy,
as we need our yesterdays
to build that new day.
If we haven’t got them,
what will happen is hard to say.

As I sit here and read your letter
my tears still fall,
and I can’t hold back the years
no more than I can hold back the tears
for our lost yesterdays.

No More Looking Back

Walking along a crowded street
I see thousands of faces before me.
Then I see a face that I used to know
Long ago in my life story.
It starts me thinking about the things you said
For your image is still inside me.
The past is gone but in my head
Youre still walking along beside me.
Is it something playing tricks with my eyes
Or just an illusion deceiving me,
Or is it someone in a disguise
Or visions of things that used to be?
But lately Ive been going to
All the places that we once knew,
And just when I think that I am free of you
I keep seeing the things that remind me of you,
And just when I think youre out of my head
I hear a song that you sang or see a book that you read.
Then youre in every bar, youre in every caf,
Youre driving every car, I see you everyday,
But youre not really there cos you belong to yesterday.
No more looking back,
No more living in the past,
Yesterdays gone and thats a fact,
Now theres no more looking back.
Got to be hard,
Yeah, look straight ahead.
That s the only way its going to be,
Yesterdays gone and thats a fact,
Now theres no more looking back,
Perhaps someday Ill stop needing you,
Then maybe one day Ill be free of you.
But lately Ive been going to
All the places that remind me of you.
And just when I think youre out of my head
I hear a record you played or see a book that you read.
Then youre in every bar, youre in every caf,
Youre driving every car, I see you everyday
But youre not really there cos you belong to yesterday.
No more looking back,
No more living in the past.
Yesterdays gone, thats a fact,
Now theres no more looking back.
No more looking back.
No more living in the past.
Yesterdays gone, thats a fact.
Now theres no more looking back.

Ev My Good Friend

I remember the day when I first met Ev,
he would become the best of friends,
He loved to chat and take me out to eat,
when I lived on Iglehart Street.
One night late at night,
a thug stole my keys, I was filled with fright.
I called Ev and he came to see what went on,
we looked for my purse in dumpsters, but it was long gone.
Then of course we went to eat down at Denny's when
I said without a bleep and real discrete,
'Ev we have to get back to my car,
I know thug might drive it off quite far.'
Sure enough when we get back,
my car was stolen with not much gas.
Of course later we get car out of impound lot,
it came to so much money which was a lot.
More interesting times to come over the years,
thank you Ev for the memories I hold so dear.

Do I Ever Cross Your Mind

Oh, sometimes I go walking through fields where we walked
Long ago in the sweet used to be
And the flowers still grow, but they don't smell as sweet
As they did when you picked them for me
And when I think of you and the love we once knew
How I wish we could go back in time
Do you ever think back on old memories like that
Or do I ever cross your mind
Oh, how often I wish that again I could kiss
Your sweet lips like I did long ago
And how often I long for those two loving arms
That once held me so gentle and close
And when I think of you and the love we once knew
How I wish we could go back in time
Do you ever recall these old memories at all
Or do I ever cross your mind
When old memories appear my eyes wont stay clear
When I think of those happier times
Do you ever recall these old memories at all
Or do I ever cross your mind
Do you ever think back on old memories like that
Or do I ever cross your mind

Rolling Back

Today has been a day
for rolling back the roads
I have travelled down before.
Seeing the faces again
locked away in my memory store.

Today has been a day
for rolling back times gone by,
remembering with some sadness
the tears on occasions
that leaked from my eyes.

Today has been a day
for rolling back the past times
and the mistakes I made
and of the chances I had
but that were never taken.

Today has been a day
for rolling back the memories
and of the good fortune I have had
and to smile with pride
at the future I now have.

A Shoebox

At the back of the wardrobe
lies, a shoebox of memories
of years gone by,
letters and photographs
filled with memories
of years before we grew old.
As I opened the lid
the memories came flooding out
and swirled around my head,
memories filled with smiles and laughter
at the things we used to do.

Asking Myself Why

I sat down to write a letter
to an old friend of mine,
someone I had not seen
for thirty or forty years.
Only realizing as I put pen to paper
how the years had flown by,
though it only seem like yesterday
we had met on the street
and had a long chat together.
I realized then to my regret
that I did not know if
they were alive or dead.
If they were gone,
yet another thread to my past
had disappeared forever.
A curtain of sadness fell over me
as my memories re-enacted
moments from so long ago,
moments that will never return.

My pen hovered above the paper
and no words could I write
as my mind clouded with memories
of friends I had let go.
It's so easy to say see you later,
when half the time we never do.
Then comes today like now
and you realise there maybe no later.
Those friends of yesterday maybe gone
and only reside within your memories.
Tears glazed my eyes
and I gave a silent sigh.
I wondered how may more times
will I ask myself why
in the passing of time.
Why I just sat and let them go.

My First Love

For no reason at all she came into my thoughts and dreams
I don’t know why, I haven’t seen her since she was seventeen.
She brought with her forgotten memories I thought had gone,
but they’re still there to think about and to touch upon.

The happy and sad times that we both lived through
as teenage lovers with passions so strong and true.
We lived and breathed for each other every moment of the day,
and our hearts would break if we had to spend time away.

So strong was our love, we would have died for each other,
we experienced every emotion that was possible together.
My insane jealous nature eventually forced us to part
it left us with sadness and our first broken heart.

At the time there was nothing else worth living for,
but time heals and I found another love to adore.
Looking back, my first true love is still special to me,
we discovered what love was and how it should be.

And whenever she comes to mind I think back and smile,
and thank her for the memories that are so worthwhile.
The postman put a letter through the letterbox today
it said that my first love had recently passed away.

Even though she’s left this world she lives on in my memory
and as long as I shall live she’ll be with me.
In my thoughts and dreams I see her as she was so long ago,
and it’s over fifty years since we said our first hello.

Haunted By Their Memory

Why with all the faces that we knew,
does a few seem to fill our thoughts
and haunt us sometimes for days.
The problem with these faces
they are of friends who faded away
and will not be seen again.
Is this our memory telling us
we should have been closer then
and not let their friendship drift away?
That we should have kept in touch more.
Spoke more on the telephone,
and wrote a letter or two,
maybe even visited from time to time.
Now we are haunted by their faces
for things we should have done, but never did.
Is this our punishment for not making the time
to keep in touch with them
that their faces haunt us.
Punishing us on a daily basis
knowing its too late now,
as they are no longer with us.
Could it be they are there as a lesson to learn?
That when something rare comes into our lives
we should embrace it strongly and not turn it away
for it will never come back.
Once it has gone from us
all we will be left with is faces
and haunted by their memory.

Graduation

Splashing in the water
Dancing in the rain
Having so much fun
Feeling the drops on my face.
Making so many friends
Sharing the memories we all laugh at today.
Seeing our faces
Watching us grow up
And watching us walk down that stage.
Flashbacks of memories
That we've held on for years
All of that behind us
Ready to make new ones to share.
Reaching for that diploma
Our lives about to begin
Big smiles on our faces
Knowing were about to begin.
Looking back with no regrets....

Bring Back The Memories

Baby you were in my
Dream
We were walking down
The street
Baby I heard in a melody
Its like a blast from the
Past
Let our story take us back
To the way that it used to
Be
Back to bobbys house and
Then my house
The asking whats your name
Pledging my love over soda pops
And loving you more and more
Everyday
Let the dj play that special
Song again
Lets bring back the memories
Hey there lonely girl
Ill be your duke of earl
Cause thats how it used to
Be
I keep thinking how it must
Have been
It wasnt so long ago
Everything was so simple then
When I loved you with all me
Heart and soul
In the book of love
Were a million to one
Lets bring back the memories
My earth angel
Leave a story to tell
Lets bring back these used to bes
I can make up each and every scence
Ill do-wop and then laugh at me
And Id like to rewrite my whole
Story
With you by my side
In the still of the night
I want to know that youre mine
So bring back those memories
Bring back those memories
Were a thousand miles away
Bring back the memories
Earth angel
Earth angel
Will you be mine
Bring back the memories
Bring back the memories
(fade till end)

The Cobble Stone Path

Our memories are the cobble stone path
to our past that we walk along,
and if we trip or stumble,
they repeat themselves again.

We move forward every day,
then we stop along the way
and the cobble stone path appears
and we find ourselves walking along it again.

The years melt away before us
and we are back into yesterday
and those memories we made
that always seem so far away.

As we walk along the path,
each stone hold a memory.
Some are cherished as we step on them,
and others we would just like to skip across.

Twenty Years Ago

It's been a long time since I walked
Through this old town
But oh how the memories start to flow
And there's the old movie house
They finally closed it down
You could find me there every Friday night
Twenty years ago.
I worked the counter at the drugstore down the street
But nobody's left there I would know
On Saturday mornings that's where
All my friends would meet
You'd be surprised to know what a dime would buy
Twenty years ago.
All my memories from those days come gather round me
What I'd give if they could take me back in time
It almost seems like yesterday
Where do the good times go?
Life was so much easier twenty years ago.
I guess I should stop by Mr. Johnson's hardware store
His only son was my friend Joe
But he joined the army back in 1964
How could we know he would never come back
Twenty years ago...

I Thought I Cannot Write A Love Poem Anymore

i am 48 years old, and i have loved and lost
so many times,
the pains that do not hurt anymore
come like trickles of rain not ripping any skin with
cold,
those that ripple sadness do not make any sound,
love,
does not intimidate me anymore,
neither does it make me quiver,
or long
for more,

i am 48 years old and had taken lust as creamer
to my bitter and black coffee,
stares at the window and never cares who gets
in and gets out of my door,
this room is empty
and these blankets are washed
as often as they get dirty, twice a week or thrice

and this floor gives the sounds of stilleto shoes
and hushes and moans, and there was no love
requiring a better sofa to lay my head upon,

or some romantic roses as accent on the blue
glass vase,

i am 48 years old, and still in love with you,

can do nothing about it babe,
memories bring more memories
like a stack of fantasies, and so here i am back to square one

writing you a love poem like tendrils of a vine
looking for the best tree to climb upon
until i reach that place where i can see you
sleeping in your room.
and i will be there for long
glancing

i do not wish that you love me too.
This poem serves the purpose.
It is just a matter of remembering.
How can i ever forget
You.Yes, it is still you.

The Same Street

Written by don gibson.
I still live on the same street, that we lived on.
The same old street, where memories were made on.
I shouldnt stay,why dont I go? .
Each day hurts a little more.
It wont be the same street anymore, since youve gone.
It wont be the same street anymore.
Each day I walk alone, where we once walked before.
See all familiar places, where we talked before.
But I cant run,from memories.
Theyre mine and they belong to me.
It wont be the same street anymore.since youve gone.
It wont be the same street anymore.

Our Memories

Sometimes we sit in a chair,
while across our face
falls a vacant stare.
Our mind searches our memories,
and worlds within there.
It searches the faces of old friends,
who are no longer here,
looking for happy times,
we enjoyed long ago.
Then for a brief few moments,
the memories surface
from the back roads of our mind,
and those happy times and old friends
are back with us once again.

Just Too Tired To Fight It

Here comes that same old memory
Like a movie in my mind
You told me you loved another
Then you drove off through the pines
And I swear it feels like yesterday
Though it's been a long, long time
I can still feel those cold chills
Runnin up and down my spine
Chorus:
And I've been fighting back the memories
I've been fightin back the tears
And I'm fightin back the hurt I still feel
After all these years
If I had the strength I'd fight
To make things like they were before
But I'm just too tired
To fight it anymore
Everyday my heart reminds me
How I boldly spoke those lines
I can get along without you
And I'm gonna be just fine
But the nights alone grew colder
Than I ever thought they'd be
And I spend every hour searchin
For what you took out of me
Chorus
And I thought time would overcome the torture
But instead I'm getting weaker everyday
Yeah
Whoa...
I've been fighting back the memories
I've been fighting back the tears
And I'm fighting back the hurt I still feel
After all these years
If I had the strength I'd fight
To make things like they were before
But I'm just too tired to fight
There ain't no way to hide it
I'm just too tired to fight it anymore
Yeah, I'm just too tired to fight it anymore

My Lost Love

My lost love i'm back to our memories,

Once upon the time you and i were breathless in love,

But somehow we fell apart
Yet my love still survive,

There somewhere behind those clouds,

We can meet once again at the darknerss of the nights,

I can get up from my dreams once again and walk to you,

And you know that I can do anything for you,

Still this heart like a crazy in love with you,

I can walk long years just to catch one moment with you,

I can pass through the distances

Behind the clouds of the time at the dawn,

May once again I can meet those glances and kiss those eyes,

My love i'm back to the memories of our lost love.
