Early Works - The Indians Had It Right

For The Native Americans

The Indians had it right
when they said white man
speaks with fork tongue.
The Indians spoke with politicians
whose words twisted
like a snake in the grass,
whose promises broke like piecrust.
The politicians claim to fame
was their broken words.
“Oh yes this will be your promised land”
then whisper to themselves
“when we send you to an early grave.”
“Oh come along and vote for me
(for I will put you there.)
I’ll take the milk from your child’s mouth
and make him illiterate as well.
Don’t worry just vote for me.

Date unknown.

Authors Note:
This poem is dedicated to all the tribes of Native Americans for their tenacity in front of the white men who stole their lands.

Exquisite Candidate

I can promise you this: food in the White House
will change! No more granola, only fried eggs
flipped the way we like them. And ham ham ham!
Americans need ham! Nothing airy like debate for me!
Pigs will become the new symbol of glee,
displacing smiley faces and 'Have A Nice Day.'
Car bumpers are my billboards, billboards my movie screens.
Nothing I can say can be used against me.
My life flashes in front of my face daily.
Here's a snapshot of me as a baby. Then
marrying. My kids drink all their milk which helps the dairy industry.
A vote for me is not only a pat on the back for America!
A vote for me, my fellow Americans, is a vote for everyone like me!
If I were the type who made promises
I'd probably begin by saying: America,
relax! Buy big cars and tease your hair
as high as the Empire State Building.
Inch by inch, we're buying the world's sorrow.
Yeah, the world's sorrow, that's it!
The other side will have a lot to say about pork
but don't believe it! Their graphs are sloppy coloring books.
We're just fine—look at the way
everyone wants to speak English and live here!
Whatever you think of borders,
I am the only candidate to canoe over Niagara Falls
and live to photograph the Canadian side.
I'm the only Julliard graduate—
I will exhale beauty all across this great land
of pork rinds and gas stations and scientists working for cures,
of satellite dishes over Sparky's Bar & Grill, the ease
of breakfast in the mornings, quiet peace of sleep at night.

Second, this epic tale allows the audience to actually listen to the Native Americans and receive their wisdom. Spielberg conveys the respect for Native Americans that is normally lacking in Western films.

The Power of Your Vote

Each vote is an invaluable opportunity to sound your voice;
To be a vital part of the country by expressing your choice.
No matter whether you're black, white, brown, yellow or tan,
Your vote counts the same as every other woman or man.
Even if you have made millions from the Wall Street game
Or work two jobs to feed your family, your vote is the same.
Your power is limitless as foolish, naïve politicians find out
When they don't listen to what your needs are all about.
Government serves you by the power of your votes and desires.
Vote them out if they can't find solutions this country requires.

Return To Unity

They took the Native Americans
land in the U S of A
wasn't there a better way?
Did America become more civilized
seems like we haven't changed.
The Earth is in dire straights—
Now we must go back to their way
the way the Native Americans
way of living and philosophy in their day.
They know the Rainbow children
are here now along with Crystals and Indigos
they will help restore the planet
with what they know.
If we don't listen to our children
we will reap what we sow.

Honest Politician for Friend Thad

Self confidence is often found
where it cannot be justified.
In naïve fools who love the sound
of their own voices, full of pride.
Oft in the young an arrogant.
We can forgive them easily
but when the politicians rant.
We listen to them warily.
All of their florid verbiage,
we disregard we know they lie
Their promises mere persiflage
which when elected they deny,

So vote for me an honest man
I’m out to get all that I can.

My honesty makes me unique
I want to board the gravy train.
You can believe these words I speak
Because I state I hope to gain
a seat which will entitle me.
to pursue my own interests.
Claim my expenses easily
for M.P.s there are no means tests.
I can employ my relatives
and claim back their salaries.
The art of nepotism lives
So vote for me I ask you please.
I do not promise that I will do
anything at all for you.

Why Would I....

if i couldnt trust you
enough to sit down and
eat with you...
why would i vote for you?

if your words are laced
with hatred, deception, and fear...
why would i vote for you?

if you're part of the problem,
and see no need to change...
why would i vote for you?

if you're so insulated
in your affluent world...
why would i vote for you?

if you're drunk on apathy,
and cant feel the need and the hunger...
why would i vote for you?

if your only goal is profit,
at the expense of whomever...
why would i vote for you?

THEY CAN'T WIN Apr 30th,2011

Those who don’t vote, think that nothing can change and they may be right,
Without plebiscites or propositions trying to be polite,
No binding referendums or proportional representation,
So why bother to be involved or vote or make a donation?

They are not allowed to vote for their prime minister by name,
Can’t have political recall and no matter what, so they can’t blame,
There are no set-date elections so no one knows the date for sure,
And the name on the ballot they can vote for, is extremely obscure.

Can’t vote for an appointed senator or Supreme Court judge,
Can’t even have these thoughts because nothing is allowed to budge,
Can’t have death with dignity because that would be a sin,
So why bother to vote because Canadians may not win?

Canadian Forbidden Issues Nov 6th,2012

Canadian binding referendums are completely forbidden,
Our peaceful politicians don't want to be overridden,
Just like death-with-dignity issues - we're going nowhere,
Ottawa aristocrats wont allow it so we don't stand a prayer.

And we don't have set date elections so no one knows for sure,
Because politicians can cause these issues to be obscure,
And bought media moguls concentrate on different stuff,
As if other issues are more important and that's enough.

You can't vote for a senator so these issues too stay vague,
Therefore death-with-dignity has to be avoided like the plague,
And you don't have to vote at all so you can just stay home,
Or take a vacation or buy a new car with lots of shiny chrome.

Ambrose Bierce

The Night Of Election

'O venerable patriot, I pray
Stand not here coatless; at the break of day
We'll know the grand result-and even now
The eastern sky is faintly touched with gray.

'It ill befits thine age's hoary crown
This rude environment of rogue and clown,
Who, as the lying bulletins appear,
With drunken cries incarnadine the town.

'But if with noble zeal you stay to note
The outcome of your patriotic vote
For Blaine, or Cleveland, and your native land,
Take-and God bless you!-take my overcoat.'

'Done, pard-and mighty white of you. And now
guess the country'll keep the trail somehow.
I aint allowed to vote, the Warden said,
But whacked my coat up on old Stanislow.'

A Canadian Tea Party

We need control of our Ottawa politicians somehow,
Maybe a tea party or something that we ourselves allow,
We need binding referendums soon but how do we get them?
Trudeau’s Charter didn’t help and the media will condemn.

We need political recall of useless politicians,
I realize that this is contrary to elitist traditions,
We need compulsory voting to get us all out to vote,
They will delay everything and say that they’ll take a note.

And make Trudeau’s Charter of Rights for Canadians alone,
Not for all refugees in the world from every combat zone,
We need set-date elections for sure every four or five years,
Not when they feel inclined because of political party fears.

On A White Bench

at the plaza of this town
fronting the cafe
where i am now writing this poem

i see a white cemented bench
beside a mahogany tree
three men are sitting
they are talking
and i cannot hear them
i am walled
by this glass wall

one wears a white cap
holding a radio
blue faded jeans
and rubber shoes

the second one
a brown subanen native
wearing a white shirt
with a political ads
to vote for mayor dong

the third one
already left before i finished this poem

i could have described him
but i fell short of time and sensitivity

i ask someone beside me
what these three men are up to

they are waiting
they are looking for a job on this hard times
when the price of rice has gone high
together with the gas

i know you want something more than this kind of write
did i keep you waiting too?

tell me did i keep you waiting too for something that you want me to tell you?
i have nothing to tell you

how does it feel to wait, hours perhaps, for something that does not come/
how does it feel to wait

for nothing? tell me, tell me, if you understand now, how is it to sit on a white
bench beside a mahogany tree, in the plaza, in front of an internet cafe

where i write a poem
and nothing nothing really happens

ONLY HALF THE FOLK VOTE Apr 17th,2011

We should be ashamed of a system where less than half the folk vote,
Something like what a Middle East despot dictator might promote,
The Australians are required to vote or they get fined,
Makes for a more democratic system if you don’t mind.

It seems to me that our politicians are reluctant to change,
We have a perfect democracy, they say, so why rearrange?
Then if only half the people bother to vote, then that’s good,
The parties – not the people have control; is that understood?

And why would our politicians be so reluctant to change?
Doesn’t seem normal to me, in fact it really seems quite strange,
Where less than half the people control who gets elected,
Am I missing something here or am I just not connected.

Red With Native Blood

Give them back their bloody land,
red with native blood.
We have soiled it so, with our hands,
red with native blood.
The earth was stained, when we first came,
red with native blood.
We stole their domain, with a barbaric claim:
that we were civilised and they were not,
that they were the savages and we were not,
when we ravaged the land that began to clot,
red with native blood.

Not content with genocide
we interned them in reserves.
To break their culture
and tribal ways;
in stealing children
the state was brave,
to turn their women
into household slaves,
and hope their men would die,
unmourned, in lonely graves;
a problem to us no more.

Give them back their bloody land,
red with native blood.
Acknowledge their just demands,
wash the stains from our hands,
give them back their bloody land,
red with native blood.

What Democracy?

Is democracy a dream?
The human race aspires to
such things are seldom as they seem.

Although the people have a choice.
They seldom think their choices through
and so the wishes which they voice.

Can be ignored and flagrantly
by those who hold the power reins
which they acquired dishonestly.

The voting system is unfair.
Votes do not carry equal weight.
The major parties do not care.

They are content to wait their turn
To ride upon the gravy train
enjoying perks they do not earn.

If every vote was made to count
Then that would be democracy
Hold politicians to account

for promises they make then break.
Perhaps it’s time to rectify
the present system: Which would take.

a social revolution
to institute democracy.
Instead of the confusion.

The rule of many by the few
who claim they have the peoples vote
A statement patently untrue.

The vote I cast has no value
in this so called democracy
Its very sad but very true.

A Nice Day

Walk the steps to old monuments
White silk clouds
Awareness of the joy within
Awareness of the soldier
Awareness of the homeless
Old man feeds pigeons
His park bench on a groomed lawn
This blue sky has answers
An old friend is taking photos
Everything I am is here
The sun on my face
Breeze through my hair
Monument of a civil war general

A real killer of Indians
Worked for the railroad
Helped clear the west
Native Americans in nameless graves
No monuments
This killer gets streets named after him
The rich get their names on libraries
I don’t buy any of it
I’m glad it’s a nice day

America, the Truth

George Washington
did not part the Red Sea,
and lead us into the

Promised Land...
God, not even a white God,
did not tell us to...

slaughter the Native Americans,
and take their lands by force!

we are not the 'chosen people'!

we're just people, people
like all other people
around the world!

first, and foremost,
we are citizens of the world.
any blessing we have received

comes with the responsibility
to share it with the world...
not to force our idealogies

whether for profit or pride...
if we stand for freedom,
it means freedom for all...

regardless of color, creed,
or nationality...
we cannot rise any higher

than our actions...
cannot liberate without
first liberating ourselves...

cannot build a future
without including all
of humanity, great and small!

WE WAIT TO DIE Mar 29th,2011

Our politicians in Ottawa may soon tell us what to do,
Without binding referendums, as we wait in the long tax queue,
And without dying-with-dignity clause, we also wait to die,
It could be in deadly pain and sorrow and we don’t know why.

Add to that, we are now in the middle of an election,
Death-with-dignity questions might cause them disaffection,
Because the majority of our politicians don’t have a clue,
Add that, plus, binding referendums being completely taboo.

They’ll have a celebration when they are reelected,
Maybe you’re among the half who don’t vote and not connected,
We may not have to vote but we have to eventually die,
There is no connection, they say and don’t you dare ask why.
