The Bet (Naani)

The Bet (Naani)

Life's nasty little clock

Speeds up in staccato tic tac

As Drinks and Drugs feed on

Death placed his bet and mocks.

Doors

A door may open
Or it may close
It may be wooden
Or steel, I suppose.

A door keeps us in
Or may lock us out,
A door may be silent
Or with noise, may shout.

Doors are for safety,
Our protection -
May rot in antiquity
Lose purpose and mission.

A door like chance,
Can open a dream.
A door like romance,
Can cause some steam.

But there is one door
With its key - never part,
Freely open, evermore -
The door of your heart!

Your Diamonds

I do not own the hand
That writes freely your words
Nor will I try to tell you
How and what to write
No demands here, my friend
No selfish impositions
To stifle the ink that is yours,
The feelings only you can have
Little diamonds drilled
By your creative mind
They are your treasures
Yours alone!
So I in deep affection
Set you free
To be YOU
To lay before us
Your own colors
Your Jewels
Because you have
My Respect.

Simple Life -Acrostic #3

Stay focused on goals and dreams,
Identify those that need change.
Many trials discourage it seems
Persevere, for winning is in your range
Live honestly and work with pride
Excellence will soon be at your side.

Leave worries and anger, be free!
In Faith, trust in God's care.
For life is short, so live peacefully
Everything has a reason to be there.

'Be joyful in hope,
Patient in affliction,
Faithful in prayer.'

A Better Fix

Today's young people want a quick fix
In those drugs and drinks that they can get
And so in much trouble they get to mix
With their lives destroyed, filled with regret.

But another alternative is there for you
It's just waiting for your daily taking
A very good fix it can assure you
And make you productive in your living.

God's Word is power for success
And from it you must not depart
Kept in your life, it will surely bless
Your soul, and Peace will fill your heart.

Unload your baggage as it' s getting late
In Life, when you fix your human eyes
On Jesus the Perfecter of your faith
You'll run with strength and be very wise.

'The fear of the Lord leads to life,
Then one rests content, untouched by trouble.'

Proverbs 19: 23

'He who walks with the wise, grows wise,
but a companion of fools suffers harm.'

Proverbs 13: 20

High School

High school days used to be fun
With friends and crushes and all
But now the teacher fires a gun
And shoots at will without a call.

High school now is never the same
Gangs and drugs proliferate
Life and future are just some game
Kids play and lose at a growing rate.

Reborn

Fifteen years
Trying to put
Shattered pieces back
Daily, such a draining chore
There was no glue for it
To be done perfectly
Even with care
I was tired.

Perhaps the numbness
From repeated breaking
Woke me up
From the dream
Awake enough
To walk away
Picking up my pieces
So I can go on
Living
Again!

Master, Or Slave?

All men were created to be free
But some have chosen another way
Life choices were made into slavery
That ebbed their humanity away.

A man is a slave to what mastered him,
Alcohol, drugs, gambling and such.
Greed, pleasure, and every evil whim
Yes, the tendrils of Sin can grip so much.

Man takes the drugs in his own hand
And with his own mouth, he will then swallow.
Man takes the guns, pulls the triggers and then
Does the killing, the murders he sows.

Man, he created those nuclear weapons
Surely for the purposes of making war
For Hatred and Strife has mastered him on
And his Sin has gone so very, very far.

Though Man was given all dominion
Over the Earth and all living things
He has managed to reap sheer destruction
And the Cause and Effect now is coming.

Poverty and famine are man-made
Through corruption, neglect, and pollution
The Earth has succumbed and its womb forbade
The harvest of food for our consumption.

Pride is the other master that holds
Man will never acknowledge his need
For the only God Whose power can mold
Man back to his image, a master...His Seed.

'When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at the time...Those things result in death! '
Romans 6: 21

'For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.'
Romans 6: 23

Parker

A Very Short Song

Once, when I was young and true,
Someone left me sad-
Broke my brittle heart in two;
And that is very bad.

Love is for unlucky folk,
Love is but a curse.
Once there was a heart I broke;
And that, I think, is worse.

Dorothy Parker
(August 22,1893 - June 7,1967 / Long Branch / New Jersey)

-----------

Parker was no fan of fancy language, see -
Her words direct and cutting, precision Poetry!
No fan of metaphor, no use for filigree
But when I read I understand what she says to me!

And we all know she was more than good
Had years of excellence in writing
Simple words can be understood
Like of those Nash, Frost, and Kipling.

Gentle Rain

Have you ever
Listened to the sound
Of gentle rain?
Drink with eyes closed
A soothing lullaby
Music for repose
Like a baby's sigh
Sound so soft
With chirps of birds
That bathe
Unafraid
Of its wetness
Washed by
Gentleness
Touching you
With peace.

What's Cooking?

So how are you,
Have you pulled through?

Still wallowing in pills
Content with your ills?

Those drugs you use
Of course you'll abuse

There's no easy way
You escape it today

Just a quick trip
To put you to sleep

A nice harmless high
That will make you fly

Those drugs aren't cool
Turned you into a fool

That child was a friend
Your eyes saw a chicken

Slashed her throat dry
Intending to fry

And then you were sober
But her life was over

So now you serve time
For that heinous crime

Blamed the drugs you get
But never forget

All the pills you were taking
Had your brains a-cooking!

'There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to destruction.'

Not Perfect

Allow your fellow poets freedom
With grace, appreciate their words
Whatever they give it will become
A blessing, a touch, that poems accord.

Each one has limitations, but have a voice.
Listen, even to them that are new
Looking for the Good is always a choice
Do not restrict what does not agree with you.

Above all else, never have Conceit and think
You are above the rest and now excel
We are all learning and our efforts link
To Poetry, as we read - we learn well.

For life is a never- ending school
And those who succeed are those who are able
To look beyond the flaws and to use his tools
While all the while remaining very teachable!

Cranky

Maybe it is the weather
That makes you grow crankier
Or better yet the hormone
That lets you give an acidic tone.

I do not care if you review,
Please be kind in all you do.
Today maybe your very last,
For life is over, oh so fast.

We all have joy to try and write,
And all you here we do invite.
No one's perfect so be true -
If you're not happy, say 'Adieu! '

Kindness is the best to give
Adds sunshine to this life we live.
We may not have a lot of money,
That's better than to be so cranky.

You'll end up with a lot of lines,
And with your words, please be refined.
For it reflects the heart inside,
Those sour grapes are hard to hide.

'The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him...'

In Him There is No Fear

When oceans move to swallow
And mountains slide to bury
And all don't know just where to go
When Death's near you and me.

When winter cold comes killing
And land breaks open wide
In Him we find there is no fearing
The Lord our God is by our side.

Recycle

Everyday we recycle something
and over the last few years,
this has really caught on,
but we have a long way to go
to catch up with nature
that has been doing this
ever since time began.
Everything that dies
returns to the earth
to feed new life somewhere,
even we do not go to waste
whether we are buried or cremated,
either way we will turn to dust
and once again be immersed
into the soil of life.

A Writer's Prayer

In my nothingness, be glorified
For everything I have all come from You,

Remove the dross and foolish pride
With grace, bless everything I do.

Guide my writing with Your Light
Your Words of Truth inspire me,

May all that comes from pen be right
That all men come to see.

Bless the words with Your great Power
A wondrous working from above,

For You, oh God, made me a writer
Declare the hope of Your Mercy and Love!

turning a man from the snares of death.'
