Ode to Phyllis

My date moved on the dance floor
as if her life depended on it.
I tried to look cool
as I kept up with her.

At some point, I felt a stare
from the lady
sitting by herself.
The discotheque lights
did not reveal
the complete details
of her face
but somehow
I knew something
struck between us.

She is my wife
and the mother
of my children.

You Cant Dance

He man, Ive seen ya, think ya rockin it on the floor...
You look like a moron! who let you in the door?
To put the question bluntly: maybe your feets deformed.
They should slap you in the teeth when you put your dancing shoes on.
You cant dance!
Why dont you just nail your feet to the floor?
Homeboy, whats the use?
Anytime you wanna step aside a party,
First think of an excuse.
You dance like a fat old lady
Not sayin that fat old ladies aint nice,
But every time you try to get one move right.
The old lady then did it twice.
You cant dance!
Youve been a dancing disco disaster,
The worst I ever saw.
They should dropkick you on the neck
And drag you off the floor.
In every discotheque, I see you there
In the middle of the crowd,
Looking like you got eight or nine left feet dragging all around.
You cant dance!
Take my advice, dont move!
Youll never get the knack.
If I danced like you Id sneak out the party
And wouldnt be coming back.
On the floor youre a dinosaur, yeah boy, thats how you move.
You look like ralph cramden(? ) or a donald duck cartoon.
You cant dance!
You wanna come to my party?
I wouldnt give you a chance.
You tried to take breakdance lessons,
Ended up in an ambulance.
Wouldnt it be funny if they put you on solid gold?
You dance like you got arthritis already,
Whatll happen when you get old?
You cant dance!
Why are you so stiff?
Is it something that your mother did?
Maybe you grew up around cant dance people
When you were a cant dance kid.
You live in a cant dance house,
Went out in a cant dance car,
Your doofy cant dance father
Got drunk in a cant dance bar.
You take a cant dance bath,
Put on your cant dance cologne.
Go out to a cant dance party
So you wouldnt have to cant dance all alone.
You cant dance!
Homeboy, will you please get off the floor, you moron?

Sally Cant Dance

Sally dances on the floor
She says that she cant do it anymore
She walks down st. marks place
And eats natural food at my place
Now sally cant dance no more
She cant get off of the floor
Sally cant dance no more
They found her in the trunk of a ford
Ooohhh, she cant dance no more
Sally is loosing her face
She lives on st. marks place
In a rent-controlled apartment, eighty dollars a month
She has lots of fun, she has lots of fun, but
Sally cant dance no more, ooohhh
Sally cant dance no more
She took too much meth and cant get off the floor
Now sally, she cant dance no more
She was the first girl in the neighborhood
To wear tied-dyed pants, ah, like she should
She was the first girl that I ever seen
That had flowers painted on her jeans
She was the first girl in her neighborhood
Who got raped on tompkins square, real good
Now she wears a sword, like napoleon
And she kills the boys and acts like a son
Sally cant dance no more, ooohhh, now
Sally cant dance no more
She cant get herself off the floor, ah, huh
Sally, ooohhh, she cant dance no more
Watch this, now
Sally became a big model
She moved up to eighties and park
She had a studio apartment
And thats where she used to ball, folk singers
And thats where she used to ball, folk singers, but
Sally, she cant dance no more
Sally, she cant dance no more
Sally cant get herself off of the floor
Now, sally, she cant dance no more
(sally cant dance)
(sally cant dance)
She knew all the really right people
She went to le jardin
She danced with picassos illegitimate mistress
And wore kenneth lane jewels, really its trash, but
Sally cant dance no more, ooohhh
Sally cant dance no more
She cant get herself off of the floor
Now, sally, ooohhh, she cant dance no more, no more
Dance, no more cant ...
(sally cant dance, sally cant dance)
(sally cant dance, sally cant dance)
(sally cant dance, sally cant dance)
(sally cant dance, sally cant dance)
... repeat and fade out

Pow Wow

Christopher columbus discovered america
Found he had a cornucopia
Gave love to the indians, they gave it back
A pow wow in the teepee is where its at
I want to dance with you
I want to dance with you
I want to dance with you
I want to dance with you
The indian fought with his arrow and bow
Till general custer lost to sitting bull
Scalped all day and scalped all night
Give me fire water, gonna buy me a wife
I want to dance with you
I want to dance with you
I want to dance with you
I want to dance with you
When your people first moved to our block
Our ancestors met with culture shock
Two different monkeys from two different trees
Come on lets stop our fightin and come dance with me
Come on dance with me
Come on and dance with me
cause I really wanna dance with you
I want to dance with you
Come on and dance with me

Do Not Just Sit There

we are here in this theater of life
choose your mask if you want one
take it if you need it
be in whatever form you like
ugly? you look ugly? cover it and then look
just fine
beautiful? are you beautiful? show it
in this theater of life
we are called upon to be ourselves
in whatever shape we take
cool? you want to be cool? then be cool.
shy? you want to be shy? then be shy.

now, let us take the dance floor
do not refuse my last offer

let us dance because the music is playing and
the band had taken a week for the rehearsing

hold my hand, follow my steps and do not look down
look at me and follow me
use the instinct of life

we shall now dance the last dance of life
the best dance ever
the sweetest ever

now that i have you and you are beside me
let me guide you
to the zest of life to the best of what life has to offer
this is the last dance

please do not be shy
please do not die.

God Is A DJ

[VERSE 1:]
I've been the girl with her skirt pulled high
Been the outcast never running with mascara eyes
Now I see the world as a candy store
With a cigarette smile, saying things you can't ignore
Like Mommy I love you
Daddy I hate you
Brother I need you
Lover, hey "f*** you"
I can see everything here with my third eye
Like the blue in the sky
[CHORUS:]
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm
You are the music
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
You get what you're given
It's all how you use it
[Verse 2:]
I've been the girl- middle finger in the air
Unaffected by rumors, the truth: I don't care
So open your mouth and stick out your tongue
You might as well let go, you can't take back what you've done
So find a new lifestyle
A new reason to smile
Look for Nirvana
Under the strobe lights
Sequins and sex dreams
You whisper to me
There's no reason to cry
[CHORUS:]
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm
You are the music
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
You get what you're given
It's all how you use it
[BRIDGE:]
You take what you get and you get what you give
I say don't run from yourself, man, that's no way to live
I've got a record in my bag you should give it a spin
Lift your hands in the air so that life can begin
If God Is a DJ... If God
If God is a DJ (life is a dance floor)
Get your ass on the dance floor
[CHORUS (2X):]
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm
You are the music
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
You get what you're given
It's all how you use it

Reveal Yourself

Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself.
Life on earth is so bizarre,
We must find a way to fulfill,
What we really are,
Yes its true,
I love you,
And theres nothing you do thats wrong,
Find values of your own.
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
On the living room floor,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Till there isnt anymore.
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
For there are places even you dont know.
Reveal yourself,
For life is nothing but a movie show,
Or free yourself,
Your heart,
Your mind,
Your soul,
Your sanity,
Just got to see it,
Smell it,
Know that its reality.
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Doesnt matter anymore,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Till there isnt anymore.
There are no rules where life is concerned,
Our past must be burned,
For theres nothing we have learned,
And its true,
I believe that we must all be free,
Immortal you and me.
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
On the living room floor,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Till there isnt anymore,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
And maybe youll go down in history.
Oh, how much longer must your life remain a mystery,
It doesnt matter if youre thick and fat or thin and long,
You must find out exactly where it is that you belong.
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Doesnt matter anymore,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
On the living room floor,
Reveal yourself,
For there are places even you dont know,
Reveal yourself,
For life is nothing but a movie show,
Reveal yourself,
Your heart,
Your mind,
Your soul,
Your sanity,
Just got to see it,
Smell it,
Know thats its reality,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
Reveal yourself,
It doesnt matter if the world thinks youre right or wrong,
Reveal yourself.

The Game of Stare

There’s a boy with his fellow
I caught his eyes with a wander
Now the game has been played
Now you have been challenged
You better asked my name
Before anyone came
But you only stare, stare, stare
Like I annoy your safety ring
Like you can’t even think
You only stare, stare, stare
Like I lose you something
Something you can’t even win

There’s boy in the dance floor
I catch his eyes, he comes closer
Now the game is replayed
Now you better watch out
You better take me out
Before someone calls you coward
Cause you only stare, stare, stare
Like you never see me in dress
Like no one else who dares
You only stare, stare, stare
Like I steal you something
Something you can’t even think

There’s a boy in the park
He makes me catch his eyes
Now the game is forward
Now you don’t want to break up
You better have a word
Before you loose your hold
And you only stare, stare, stare
Like a puppy wants a bone
Like you’ll be lost if I’m gone
You only stare, stare, stare
Like I can give you something
Something you think you can’t win

Man, Husband, Father

(10/24/12)

First and foremost - I am a man
And I had to gratify my needs
Then she came along and planted her seed.

Right then I knew she had to be part of my life
So I made her my wife.
But there was still something missing in my heart
And it was tearing me apart.

What was this need - this desire - that I had to fill?
I couldn't give up, it was bugging me still.
Then it dawned on me that I would never be complete
Until I had a child playing at my feet.

I fulfilled my goal that my wife would
No longer work- and all my friends called me a jerk.
I was always taught that the man must be
The family head - and on that road I would tread.

Being in the food line since the age of eight
I did not have to contemplate
Every one has to eat! So supermarkets and
Restaurant management I had to defeat.

I knew also that I would have to be a
" jack of all trades" - so I watched and questioned
Others who had the skills of plumbing, carpentry
Electrical too, these were things that a home owner must do.

I had become her husband, chauffer, and her friend
And to her, my ear I'd lend.
All her appointments, I was there
And the results we would share.

Then the news came that I waited to hear
That my wife was pregnant and my child she did bear.
Now I felt whole, I felt complete
This news wiped me off my feet
I knew already That a girl would be the part
Who would capture my soul, and heart.

They say only a mother can know the
Pleasures and pains- " but" in a fathers heart
He feels the same.

He does not feel the kicks and turns
And the morning sickness that a woman may feel
But he shares the joys that he sees on her face
As on her stomach his hand is placed.

Now my need, my desire was filled
And I rejoice to this day still.

Sonnet: You Know What’s Best and When

A Doctor second, lady you are first!
You ought to choose priorities in Life;
‘Can wait! ’ your knowledge and fiscal thirst;
Her husband, children are wealth to a wife.

So, women must become a mother soon!
And sacrifice a lot of things in life;
The mother’s place at home is sure a boon;
The working mother helps to lessen strife.

Your family is more important, oh doc!
The job is second to a woman then;
What use are key and latch without a lock?
Which home can happy be without children?

So, plan whatever things you must first do!
The joy of children will not wait for you.

Better Do It Well

(gary moffet/myles goodwyn)
Published by goody two tunes, inc. - bmi
She was a lady, sitting alone
Played out of line
She does a number, out on the floor
She is so fine
Get it up, get it up
Drinkin my papaya
Good to see things my way baby
Whatd you say, hey
Tramp of the neighborhood
Not bad looking and feels so good
I knew the lady had something to tell
If youre gonna love me better do it well
Come on babe, show me a sign
I wanna know
One says right, one says left
I dont know which way to go
Ooh, you got love, you got love
Turn on the lights
Wont you send it my way
Yeah, come on, well do it tonight
Tramp of the neighborhood
Not bad looking and feels so good
I knew the lady had something to tell
If youre gonna love me better do it well
Do you love her, I dont know
Well do you need her, I think so
Do you, do you have to act so blind
Girl you got my love and then you leave me behind
Tramp of the neighborhood
Not bad looking and feels so good
I knew the lady had something to tell
If youre gonna love me better do it well
If youre gonna love me better do it well
If youre gonna love me better do it well
Tramp of the neighborhood
Not bad looking and feels so good

If youre gonna love me better do it well

In Memory Of Mother

O mother dear of this my life
you were more to me like a wife
as we lived together for a while
after dad had died and in style.

We went just about everywhere together
though it depended much on the weather.
And the fact that I was more reclusive
meant that it was hard to be inclusive.

Ours was a supremely chaste interdependence
which worked well to the point of transcendance.
Although I was the son and you were the mother
I would often give advice like a husband and father.

You had various problems with your health
but this did not undermine spiritual wealth.
There were certain things that you would more or less ignore
due to a stubborn habitual independence that I would implore.

I tried to enhance your life and give you much more
rather than take anything away out of nature’s store.
And when that was stiffled with outside interference
the end result being one of a regretful ill occurence.

You lived to the ripe old age of eighty eight
and in all you did you were never really late.
You would try to help one and all in your own way
and people would look up to you and kind words say.

A very resourceful lady and one with a certain skill
you tried your hand at many things and the time fill.
I would often marvel as to how you got everything done
with a single minded purposefulness you ignored none.

Now gone is the lady of the house
who played the part of a spouse
and all that we used or shared together
is now idle at the mercy of the weather.

But her love still guides me in my heart
and urges me on daily to play the part
in doing the things that she would like me to do
even though she’s gone by doing to remain true.

Capricious Moods of Nature

I was sitting on my terrace,
A smile lit up my face.
As I looked up
Sipping tea from my blue cup.

The sky was overcast,
I don’t know when was the last
Time I felt so serene and gay.
It had to be due to the cool breeze, rare in May.

In no time it started to pour,
A tiny black bird came to rest at my door.
It looked disheveled as it was soaked to the skin.
I felt she was in some way my kin.

The colors, shapes, capricious moods of nature
Filled me with a sense of wonder.
And I thought what fun the creator
Must have had letting his imagination wander.

After a hot April, the cool air was a treat,
And I let my senses feast
On the beauty around me,
Isn’t it sad we are too busy to see
That God is present everywhere,
We just forget to stand and stare.

Why this date each year

The dawn of this date
The eighteenth March
Drowns me in sadness
As on this day in the year nineteen sixty
My mother, in her early thirties
Left us for heavenly abode
Making me and my sister
Suffer all these years
The lack of mother's love
I did not know that day
How much I missed her
But, as I became a parent
And as I started observing
The demonstration of love
By my wife to our children
I realised that
This day marks the heaviest loss
I could suffer
How I wish that every one
Here on earth
Is fortunate and lucky
To enjoy mother's love
As long as possible
And how I wish that every mother
On this earth
Stays alive and keeps showering
Her love on to her children
As long as possible
You understand as to why I question
Why this date each year

Even While Sitting On The Shore

Why should I not want to share with you,
Your point of view?
Why would I not wish to hear what your eyes see?
Or feel what is in your heart to reveal?

Why should I not wish with you to connect?
When only you can describe the soil felt under your feet.
When only you have been touched by winds of fragrant breezes...
When I sometimes may choose to sit alone in a funk!

Why should I not want to share with you,
Your point of view?
My life is not always narrowly perspective.
Or retrospectively reflective.

I often wonder about you.
I do!
Even while sitting on the shore,
To observe low tides.

Kickabout

I sat in my favourite seat sipping my special schnapp
when suddenly there came running past me a group of children chasing a red football as if their life depended on it.
Around the corner I could see housewives gathering around whispering in conniving gatherings
husbands boasting about the incredibility of their financial muscles

Alas, I told myself, I used to chase life with as much vitality
but I have moved onto more important things,
sitting all day, watching the sun rise in the east and set in the west

My eyes light up as I realized, this is the reason they say wisdom
comes with age.

Give Me Dancing Music(Song) :

I've been tempted.
And it's not so good.
I'm gonna pick up the pieces.
Then mend my ways.
So give me dancing music.
Let me dance all day.
Let me lift my feet up.
Then dance across the floor.

Dit-dit-dit-dance across, dance across.
Dance across the floor.
Let me dance across, dance across.
Dance across the floor.

I've been waiting.
For you to arrive.
And I was wondering.
If you were mine.
I can go on forever.
Or take my time.
Go on forever.
Or dance till nine.
So give me dancing music.
Let me dance all day.
Let me lift my feet up.
Then dance across the floor.

Dit-dit-dit-dance across, dance across.
Dance across the floor.
Let me dance across, dance across.
Let me dance across the floor..

Honour to Women

The woman is my mother,
She is the wife of my father.

The woman is my wife,
She is also the mother of my children.

I love my mother,
My children love their mother, too;
So, I respect my beloved wife.

Every woman with the veil of Mother is honoured by all,
Heaven lying at the feet of mother, every woman moves proudly.

Love Rekindled

I fondly remember when I first saw you-
It was at that Restaurant called West View.
Our parents had chosen the venue.
And as I looked over the menu,

You sauntered in much in style
Wearing a disarming smile.
In your clear gaze I saw an honest man,
And knew in a blink it was a divine plan.

In no time we were man and woman.
every moment felt like heaven.
Oh yes, we had our tiffs and fights,
But we made up by the night

In time children came,
Life after was not the same.
Tired when I slipped into the sheets,
You would tenderly message my cold feet.

Soon work took over our lives.
I was busy being a working mom and wife.
Before we knew children flew the nest,
And I was filled with unrest.

I wanted to reconnect,
But you were too busy on the internet.
Now there was no romance,
Had it slipped by chance?

Seeing the young celebrate Valentine,
I too coaxed you to take me out to dine.
We went to the same place,
Where we had met by God’s grace.

We laughed and talked,
And later hand in hand walked.
Night was chilly,
we felt young and silly.

I think that night,
Everything again felt right.
After long I felt light
And my heart soared like a kite.

Next day though you came home late,
You shyly asked will you come on a date.

Love's No Fun

Everyday I used 2 watch U pass my house on the way 2 school
My heart skipped 4 beats checking out the way your body moved
No one can walk the way U do, it's so cool (So cool)
Imagine how I felt when I saw my best friend with her arm around U
Love's no fun when the one U love don't love U
I went 2 a movie show, the only place that I could go away from U
I seem 2 see your face in every part of my life, no matter what I do
But there U were 4 everyone 2 see, kissing like fools
I covered my face and pretended that I didn't know what I knew
That love's no fun when the one U love don't love U, oh
I go 2 bed early every night so I can dream
Of another space and another time when U belonged 2 me
And in my dreams U talk 2 me whispering oh so sweet (So sweet)
U promised that if I'm always there 4 U, U'll be there 4 me
(With U, with U)
And then I wake and say that love's no fun without U (No it ain't, no no)
Love's no fun when the one U love don't love U
(I don't wanna be without love)
Love's no fun when the one U love don't love U
(Do U hear me, do U hear me?)
Love's no fun when the one U love don't love U, oh

The pain behind the smile

I often saw her at the shops with her kids
she was friendly and would say hello,
then I heard some really tragic news
she'd jumped from a high building onto the floor below.
So I went and saw all the masses of flowers
at the place this poor woman had been found,
adults were standing with small children sobbing
while others were reading tributes not making a sound.
Then later on I saw her smiling picture in the paper
I never knew her but I still felt very sad,
it said she was a loving mother to her children
and it was her kids who made her happy and glad.
So why did she go and jump to her death?
what was she hiding behind her beautiful smile?
this poor young woman must have been full of agony
and putting on a brave act all the while.
Three lovely young children have now lost their Mum
but I hope their Mother is now in a much better place,
it just shows what some people are concealing though
behind that forced smile that appears on their face.
