I prefer that animation reach into places where live action doesn't go, and it seems like all of animation nowadays is trying to go where live action is.

I will be doing a film called Whispers, for Disney. It's about elephants, and doesn't have any people in it. It will be a live action film - I don't know how much I can say about it, since I still don't know too much about it.

In an action film you act in the action. If it's a dramatic film you act in the drama.

Yes, actually. Animation's a very easy thing to watch on tour.

I know pretty well in the broad sense what I'm going to do, because I have to know that when we shoot the live-action, so that it'll synchronize. Then I know pretty well when I get to the animation stage, what that scene requires.

Live action writers will give you a structure, but who the hell is talking about structure? Animation is closer to jazz than some kind of classical stage structure.

I miss animation very passionately. Not continuously, but every once in a while I would die to do another film.

Suspended In Animation
Suspended in Animation
To be lifeless and still
Watch the world passing by
Dreaming Forever
In a world of in justice
To be suspended in animation
To care for all people
But unable to help them
Musing forever
In a world of prejudice
To be suspended in animation
To yearn ends to conflict
Though you cannot end it
Withdrawn forever
In a world of war
To be suspended in animation
To covet life
A vessel for your soul
A body and conscious
From where you can forge change
To wake to a cause
And help the human race
This is your fate
Don't stray from it
Or be suspended in animation

Polar Express is not an attempt to do animation. It is a technology-based film.

I'm a big movie fan. After a show, if I'm on the bus or a plane, it's often hard to get to sleep, so I'll watch a film. An action film can even relax me.

No Action
I dont wanna kiss you. I dont wanna touch.
I dont wanna see you cause I dont miss you that much.
Im not a telephone junkie.
I told you that we were just good friends.
But when I hold you like I hold that bakelite in my hands,
Theres no action,
Theres no action,
Theres no action.
Evry time I phone you, I just wanna put you down.
Hes got the keys to the car.
They are the keys to the kingdom.
Hes got evrything you need.
Its a shame that he didnt bring them.
Im not a telephone junkie.
If Im inserting my coin Im doing just fine.
And the things in my head start hurtin my mind.
And I think about the way things used to be,
Knowing you with him is driving me crazy.
Sometimes I phone you when I know youre not lonely,
But I always disconnect it in time.

I like the variety. But basically my choice of films is a small intimate film. Quiet film, no action, just people in relationships. That's what I like the most.
