The Islet And The Palm

O gentle sister spirit, when you smile
My soul is like a lonely coral isle,
An islet shadowed by a single palm,
Ringed round with reef and foam, but inly calm.

And all day long I listen to the speech
Of wind and water on my charmed beach:
I see far off beyond mine outer shore
The ocean flash, and hear his harmless roar.

And in the night-time when the glorious sun,
With all his life and all his light, is done,
The wind still murmurs in my slender tree,
And shakes the moonlight on the silver sea.

Ocean Breakers

She went to water;
she always did.

The heaving ocean
matched her heavy breathing;

it was a Ocean of Tears
like hers.

The swells crash
against the shore
relentlessly;
life was relentless too.

The foam;

Anger in the Water that day.

She went to water
she always did,

moving among the sand dunes,

face against the wind.

The sea gulls overhead;
caw! caw! caw!

She lifts her arms,
the wind blows her sleeves
making a flapping sound;

she could hear whispers
between the breakers,

she could hear weeping
among the retreating waves.

She stood there
on the Edge of Forever.

There is no end to the ocean.

Every day it calls to the Sun
and makes it rise.
.
Every night it extinguishes it.

She could walk to China;
she could
and no one would know;
no one would know.

The voice said
'I thought I would find you here'

Waves crashing
more soothing now
two tracks in the sand.

Sad swells
rise again
and retreat;

time and ocean breaks
bring them back together again.

Romany

(jennings)
Take me home
Sailing on with romany
To and fro on a icy morning
Feeling calm to have an old friend round
Feeling warm to see the wind blow down
Take me home
Where saints and children laughing
Tell the dutchman ships are passing
Feeling safe to reach the harbor sound
Feeling warm to see the wind blow down
Take me home
Leave the galley sailors talking
Leave the bridge and captains walking
Feeling naked on the covered ground
Feeling warm to see the wind blow down
The wind blowed
Down in the moonless light
The sea was dark
The breeze was light
Everyones thoughts were their own
Caught by the ocean thief
The bow hit on a coral reef
Romany sank like a stone

A Walk On The Beach By Nadood

From all the stress and all the pain
I would walk on the beach in the rain
I could hear the whispers of the Shore
Taking away all the problems and sore

As I look at the sea
I know there is nothing like this beauty

When I take a deep, deep breathe
It would take out the fear
And I could hear the whispers of the ocean in my ear
Telling me softly and gently 'Oh, dear! Oh dear'

As my heart beat goes faster and faster
I could hear the ocean's laughter

I love it when the gentle touch of the water hits my feet
You would never want to take a seat

When the wind blows
And your hair flows
Your stress just simply goes

You feel as calm as ever
You feel peace and so much better
It's just you and the beach forever

And when you lie on the sand
And you touch it with your hand
You feel like you're in wonderland

Every speck of sand brings back time
Memories and days of faith, hope, and shine
Instead of thinking about crimes

The beach makes you not worried
About the things you did or going to do
Because the whispers of the ocean will still say 'I love you, I really do'

Oh! That soft, gentle touch of the ocean
Makes me wonder about the potion
They used to put me under their spell
And that beautiful sound of the bell

Oh! How much I love the beach
I come to it when I'm sad or mad
I come to it when I'm happy or cranky
I come to it for advice
All this for no price

As I weep beside it about my problems everyday
It is like I can almost feel it touch my shoulder and say 'it's going to be okay'

I don't know whether to trust or believe
But the ocean said 'just follow your heart and you will achieve'

Do you want to know why I love this ocean?
It is because I know it will never leave.
Because finally it told me to achieve

Table Bay [2]

I can hear the waves roar,
slamming shingle on the rocks, the beach
drawing in and out
on Bloubergstrand
and the cadence is a age old shuddering
of waves breaking, continuing like before

and in the distance Table Bay
lies stretched out specked with
hundreds of little lights
like a enormous crown

with the flat mountain top
on display, etched against the night sky
and its full tide, the moon is full
yellow and magnificent

and the place of good hope,
lies on the shore
with waves breaking forever more
and lonely the beach stretches out before me,
in a long white ribbon
and the dark water goes out to the horizon,
almost as far as I can see

and the sea wind is fresh and new
and there's no light in sight
on the wavering ocean
just a darkness that envelopes me
as the waves
are throwing pebbles out
and drawing them in
before breaking on the beach

and there's nobody to be true to,
nobody to trust, only the reality of the here and now
and all hope, all promises, all joy and pain
remains the same
swept in and out of a confused world
forever breaking, forever rushing in.

By the Sea

In a hammock by the sea
As I lay there under a tree
The waves flow with tender ease
As the wind blows through the trees
Ocean waves a calming sound
So serene and tranquil it is found
An endless ocean it may seem
Where eyes meet the horizon, is like a dream
And along the horizon, clouds do part
As the artist sketches a perfect art
Deep blue water and the tides go by
The ships that sail and sea-gulls fly
The dolphins dance to the morning light
The flying fish just caught my sight
The divers dive to the coral reef
In search of pearls, they must keep
The mermaids dip and dance along
Under the moonlight, as they sing a song
The sight so pleasant to the eye
As they rock me to a lullaby.

The Sisters

ANNIE and Rhoda, sisters twain,
Woke in the night to the sound of rain,

The rush of wind, the ramp and roar
Of great waves climbing a rocky shore.

Annie rose up in her bed-gown white,
And looked out into the storm and night.

'Hush, and hearken!' she cried in fear,
'Hearest thou nothing, sister dear?'

'I hear the sea, and the plash of rain,
And roar of the northeast hurricane.

'Get thee back to the bed so warm,
No good comes of watching a storm.

'What is it to thee, I fain would know,
That waves are roaring and wild winds blow?

'No lover of thine's afloat to miss
The harbor-lights on a night like this.'

'But I heard a voice cry out my name,
Up from the sea on the wind it came.

'Twice and thrice have I heard it call,
And the voice is the voice of Estwick Hall!'

On her pillow the sister tossed her head.
'Hall of the Heron is safe,' she said.

'In the tautest schooner that ever swam
He rides at anchor in Anisquam.

'And, if in peril from swamping sea
Or lee shore rocks, would he call on thee?'

But the girl heard only the wind and tide,
And wringing her small white hands she cried,

'O sister Rhoda, there's something wrong;
I hear it again, so loud and long.

''Annie! Annie!' I hear it call,
And the voice is the voice of Estwick Hall!'

Up sprang the elder, with eyes aflame,
'Thou liest! He never would call thy name!

'If he did, I would pray the wind and sea
To keep him forever from thee and me!'

Then out of the sea blew a dreadful blast;
Like the cry of a dying man it passed.

The young girl hushed on her lips a groan,
But through her tears a strange light shone,--

The solemn joy of her heart's release
To own and cherish its love in peace.

'Dearest!' she whispered, under breath,
'Life was a lie, but true is death.

'The love I hid from myself away
Shall crown me now in the light of day.

'My ears shall never to wooer list,
Never by lover my lips be kissed.

'Sacred to thee am I henceforth,
Thou in heaven and I on earth!'

She came and stood by her sister's bed
'Hall of the Heron is dead!' she said.

'The wind and the waves their work have done,
We shall see him no more beneath the sun.

'Little will reek that heart of thine,
It loved him not with a love like mine.

'I, for his sake, were he but here,
Could hem and 'broider thy bridal gear,

'Though hands should tremble and eyes be wet,
And stitch for stitch in my heart be set.

'But now my soul with his soul I wed;
Thine the living, and mine the dead!'

Hark To The Shouting Wind

Hark to the shouting Wind!
Hark to the flying Rain!
And I care not though I never see
A bright blue sky again.

There are thoughts in my breast to-day
That are not for human speech;
But I hear them in the driving storm,
And the roar upon the beach.

And oh, to be with that ship
That I watch through the blinding brine!
O Wind! for thy sweep of land and sea!
O Sea! for a voice like thine!

Shout on, thou pitiless Wind,
To the frightened and flying Rain!
I care not though I never see
A calm blue sky again.

Here Comes The Night

Listen up, this is how the story goes
Here comes the night
It's gonna be a long and lonely night
Oh Lord, I pray it's gonna be alright
As I walk down this dusty road
My heart weights down like a heavy load
My spirit finds its way across the ocean
And my soul cries out for leaving now
I have got to get back home somehow
She stole my heart, oh how my spirit cried
cause I had to leave and it broke me up inside
Here comes the night
It's gonna be a long and lonely night
Oh Lord, I pray it's gonna be alright
this long and lonely night
I've got a weary head and worn out shoes
a bottle of rum and as I sing the blues
the bitter wind sends shivers down my spine
I'm a ramblin' man with a ramblin' mind
I left my loved ones far behind
She stole my heart, oh how my spirit cried
Cause I had to leave and it broke me up inside
Here comes the night
It's gonna be a long and lonely night
Oh Lord, I pray it's gonna be alright
This long and lonely night
Oh bless my soul, what have I done
I'm bound to face this world alone
a drifter I was meant to be
With noone there for company
But if one day down there road I can,
Would you look my way
Would you take me back again
Here comes the night
It's gonna be a long and lonely night
Oh Lord, I pray it's gonna be alright
this long and lonely night
As my souls cries out for leaving

Bring me to life

A bead of water glistens on my palm
As I stepped on watery fields of sadness
I’ m dying, like a flower
That longing for a little falls of rain
Frozen inside
I could hardly breathe
Bring me to life
Let you be my strength in the odd that never ends.

As I touched the sky I see, the angels smile
But my wings are broken
I am fallen
My soul is tracking against the wind
I can’t fly
I’m drowning in the ocean of tears
Just like broken dreams
That is turn into pieces

My voice echoed on the silence of a sea
My throat is parch
No words slip on my lips
Even the wind can’t hear my mournful grief
A tuneful poem that I am trying to sing
But nobody wants to listen
Bring me to life
Let you be my voice in this world of deaf

My heart melts
Like a candle, soften under the sun
My body shivers as I glance at the doom
A dark shadow surrounded on me
Here I am seeking for the light I wanted to see
I was so blind
Bring me to life
Be the light as the sun rises on east

No time to chase the wind

My life had started, as i feel my life will end
with twists, and turns, curves, and a bend
I used to race the wind, and fight the storms
an endless game, between me, and shaded forms
i would try and try, but always fail
i was determined to win, i was just behind, i had it by the tail
i was to beat the wind i swore it so
at any costs i would win, i had a lifetime to go
But i was only a child, and i neglected to see
that as i grew older, the wind eluded me
there's no time for chasing the wind, to much work you see
the wind had won again, how could this be
i spent all my life, running, and running, so far away
never would i stop, there was no time to stay
theres no time for chasing the wind anymore
my joints are old and sore
my days are numbered, i bow down to thee
i give in to you, i have lost all strength, i'm stiff as a tree
my limbs have grown tired, my lungs out of air
i'v run for so long, i haven't a care
there's no time for racing the wind, thats it, no more
a silence befell the field, the wind and ceased, he dropped to the floor.
have you grown tired as well, is it time to rest
has this game gone on long enough, have i passed the test
i'm so tired now, so very tired now, all i want is to lay here...
lay here only a moment, he lay on the ground, silent and calm,
his chest rises and drops, it rises, then stops... his breath is long gone he draws his last breath, and his spirit carried on.
The wind swept away his soul and he traveled within the breeze.
at last he could see, what he had fought for so long
so peaceful, so light, serene as a romantic song
There is no time to chase the wind, you've carried on
theres no time to chase wind, for the wind is far gone

I Will Listen

I will listen closely to your heart
From dawn to sunset I will hear
When the stars shine I will listen
At night I shall hear your dreams

Hear the sea with its mystery
Read the poetry of glory
Spring brings lovely song birds
Wind blows through joyful trees

We listen to nature, why not the heart?
Your sweet garden is filled with flowers
In the gentle morning I will hear you
Together we paint a portrait of passion

The moon shines in your desire
When your lonely clouds cover
I will hold you beyond words
Your smile is a gift of praise

I will listen to your gentle whispers
The touch of your smooth skin
The beauty of your summer eyes
Darling, I will listen with my last breath

A Death-Parting

LEAVES and rain and the days of the year,
(Water-willow and wellaway,)
All these fall, and my soul gives ear,
And she is hence who once was here.
(With a wind blown night and day.)
Ah! but now, for a secret sign,
(The willow's wan and the water white,)
In the held breath of the day's decline
Her very face seemed pressed to mine.
(With a wind blown day and night.)
O love, of my death my life is fain;
(The willows wave on the water-way,)
Your cheek and mine are cold in the rain,
But warm they'll be when we meet again.
(With a wind blown night and day.)
Mists are heaved and cover the sky;
(The willows wail in the waning light,)
O loose your lips, leave space for a sigh,—
They seal my soul, I cannot die.
(With a wind blown day and night.)
Leaves and rain and the days of the year,
(Water-willow and wellaway,)
All still fall, and I still give ear,
And she is hence, and I am here.
(With a wind blown night and day.)

A Fall Of Grace

Sometimes the world turns on you
Waters ravage your lonely shore
The sky offers no remorse
Beyond the abysmal pale
And God is nowhere to be found
No ones around to hear your cries
Cast your stone into the ocean
Fill your heart with silver and gold

Dear Light, hold me close
Fly away with my heart
Ill cross the roads
That you've paved for me
But I cannot find peace
In this fall of grace

My eyes are dry from the tears
I've seen the demons take away
All that has been gained
Let the water flow inside
An end to the sorrow
That plagues the frail strings
On the instrument of life
Soon screams will follow in the wind

Dear Light, won't you take my hand
Replace the death in my soul
Let the water bleed out
Dear Light, won't you lay me down
Cover me in sticks and stones
Crush my brittle bones
Dear Light, you let me fall
In this hollow disgrace
Let the tears run down my face
Dear Light, you are the downfall of my grace

Song of the Sea-Wind

When the sun sets over the long blue wave
I spring from my couch of rest,
And I hurtle and boom over leagues of foam
That toss in the weltering west,
I pipe a hymn to the headlands high,
My comrades forevermore,
And I chase the tricksy curls of foam
O'er the glimmering sandy shore.

The moon is my friend on clear, white nights
When I ripple her silver way,
And whistle blithely about the rocks
Like an elfin thing at play;
But anon I ravin with cloud and mist
And wail 'neath a curdled sky,
When the reef snarls yon like a questing beast,
And the frightened ships go by.

I scatter the dawn across the sea
Like wine of amber flung
From a crystal goblet all far and fine
Where the morning star is hung;
I blow from east and I blow from west
Wherever my longing be-
The wind of the land is a hindered thing
But the ocean wind is free!

Merman

The wind crept in from the southern gulf
And it rustled through the trees,
As clouds flew over, covered the sun
In some vast conspiracy,
The light was dimmed to an eerie gloom
And the wind began to squall,
Whipping the crests of the breakers up
The length of the Great Seawall.

A single cottage sat at the shore
And it showed a feeble light,
Where Mary D'Arcy sat in the gloom
To peer, in a sudden fright,
For a man rose slowly, out of the sea
His body covered in scales,
And roared like a monster from the deep
Cast up by the winter gales.

‘Come out! Come out! Wherever you are! '
He roared, as he reached the shore,
His eyes were dead in a fish's head
‘Come out for your just reward! '
But Mary's face in the window, lit
By a single candle there,
Was pale and white in her sudden fright,
She could only sit and stare!

The wind began to shriek at the eaves,
The waves crashed over the wall,
And sudden debris littered the beach
That had been so clean before,
Then lightning arced from the surly cloud
And thunder rattled the pane,
Of the glass in the cottage window there,
And then it began to rain.

The size of the rolling breakers grew
And crashed, white foam in their fall,
They vomited up an oil slick
That stuck like glue to the wall,
‘You think you can dump your slime on me, '
He roared, and stood in the foam,
‘You think that you have a bottomless sea,
That bottomless sea's my home! '

The water lapped at the cottage door,
The debris swirled at the rip,
‘I'm giving you back your junk for free
And the wrecks of your sunken ships!
See how you cope with the slime and filth
That you dump on the ocean floor…'
But Mary D'Arcy tightened her lips
And opened the cottage door!

‘Why do you spend your rage on me
When the world out there's to blame?
I'm just a single, innocent soul
On this beach you thought to claim! '
‘For every time you empty your sink
With grease, and bleach, your drain
Runs out to the pristine water's edge -
You're one, but you're all the same! '

The oil poured in, and over the floor,
Dead birds were caught in the slime,
And fish that gasped at their final breath
Lay strewn at the shore's define,
The Merman turned, walked back to the sea
‘I'm putting you to the test!
You've seen what your future shores may be,
You'd better go tell the rest! '

I Miss The Beach

I miss everything about the beach from the sands between my toes to the mighty sound of the ocean crashing against the rocks; it is there where I found my serenity.

I miss the sun raise to the sun fall at the beach, where its true colors have this wonderfully glow right at the point of when the sun touches the water.

I miss the smell of the salted water when the wind blows, I miss the way the sun feels when it caress my face, it has this magical warmth.

I miss the beach from the family fun to the just one on one in the sun, it reminds me of what home feel like, I miss seen the kids playing in the water, and how the fire bounces off the ocean in the darkness of night.

I miss the beauty of the beach for this is the loveliest gift that God has created for us to enjoy our time with each other, oh how I miss the beach.

Sunlight And Sea

Give me the sunlight and the sea
And who shall take my heaven from me?

Light of the Sun, Life of the Sun,
O happy, bold companion,
Whose golden laughters round me run,
Making wine of the blue air
With wild-rose kisses everywhere,
Browning the limb, flushing the cheek,
Apple-fragrant, leopard-sleek,
Dancing from thy red-curtained East
Like a Nautch-girl to my feast,
Proud because her lord, the Spring,
Praised the way those anklets ring;
Or wandering like a white Greek maid
Leaf-dappled through the dancing shade,
Where many a green-veined leaf imprints
Breast and limb with emerald tints,
That softly net her silken shape
But let the splendour still escape,
While rosy ghosts of roses flow
Over the supple rose and snow.

But sweetest, fairest is thy face,
When we meet, when we embrace,
Where the white sand sleeps at noon
Round that lonely blue lagoon,
Fringed with one white reef of coral
Where the sea-birds faintly quarrel
And the breakers on the reef
Fade into a dream of grief,
And the palm-trees overhead
Whisper that all grief is dead.

Sister Sunlight, lead me then
Into thy healing seas again....
For when we swim out, side by side,
Like a lover with his bride,
When thy lips are salt with brine,
And thy wild eyes flash in mine,
The music of a mightier sea
Beats with my blood in harmony.
I breast the primal flood of being,
Too clear for speech, too near for seeing;
And to his heart, new reconciled,
The Eternal takes his earth-bound child.

Who the essential secret spells
In those gigantic syllables,--
Flowing, ebbing, ebbing, flowing,--
Gathers wisdom past all knowing.
Song of the Sea, I hear, I hear,
That deeper music of the sphere,
Catch the rhythm of sun and star,
And know what light and darkness are;
Ay, faint beginnings of a rhyme
That swells beyond the tides of time;
Beat with thy rhythm in blood and breath,
And make one song of life and death.
I hear, I hear, and rest content,
Merged in the primal element,
The old element whence life arose,
The fount of youth, to which it goes.

Give me the sunlight and the sea
And who shall take my heaven from me?

Smile the scented wind

let me be the wind that wash the tiding sea and sudden
the illusion of this day and capture your heart in the endless
beauty of your destiny

thou, the living blue ocean always bring, happiness and
as the trumpeter echo of my call, nothing has come to live in
your bountiful scented smile in the wind, my dear soul rest

oh! my admirable dear desire, my passion shadowed in your
wisdom of love, enduring the holocaust of pain as you walks
amidst my trembling heart, I restore to live beyond today

let me ask a little pardon, the humble beginning of my love,
that leads me to kiss my ignorance of being, that hold me to
push the reason, why forgiveness comes first to your mercy

I come thou, in the brightness of today, blinded that you
Will just a dew to believe the point to accept that all lewd
I to know the zeal that begin the idyllic time with me

may come the sea fished, the water in the dueling night
of the coming ocean blue light of tomorrow, for thou shall
my heart paddle my soul to rejoin; with the time to bring
the memory of you my wind beneath the angler hook of
today ….

The Ocean

1969 live version
--------------------------------------------
Here comes the ocean
And the waves down by the shore
Here comes the ocean
And the waves down by the sea
Earth is a hollow hair bought of a bigger head
It nearly drives me crazy
I am a lazy son
I never get things down
...(unknown)
But here comes the waves
Down by the shore
Washing the eye of the land
That has been down by the sea
Down by the sea
Down by the sea
Down by the sea
Here comes the ocean and the waves
Down by the shore
Here comes the ocean and the waves
Down by the sea
(incense or in sex or insects) for evil thoughts, thought of by selfish men
It nearly drives me crazy
I am a lazy son
I never get things done
...(unknown)
Here comes the waves down by the shore
Washing the eye of the land that has been down by the sea
Down by the sea
Here come the waves
Here come the waves
Here come the waves
Peel slowly and see version
---------------------------------------------
Here comes the ocean
And the waves
Down by the sea
Here comes the ocean
And the waves
Where have they been?
Silver and black with night
Heres to a summers night
An empty splendid castle
Glowering alone at night
The princess has had a fright
Madness seeks out the lover
And here come the waves down by the shore
Washing the soul of the body
That comes from the depths of the sea
Here comes the ocean
And the waves down by the sea
Here comes the ocean
And the waves, where have they been
Dont swim tonight my love
The tide is out my love
Malcoms curse haunts our family
Oh yes, loud in which, ruler of filthy seas, revelling heavans justice
And here come the waves
And save for a scream
Theres much like a song
To be heard, in the wind, that blows by the sea.
Like the wind
Here come the waves,
Here come the waves,
Here come the waves

Two Pictures

WE sat by an open window
And hearkened the sounds outside —
The call of a lonely night-bird,
And the croon of a making tide.
He was an island-trader,
And talked of his sunlit home,
Of the palms and the happy people,
And reef and beach and foam.
All that the trader told me
Was wine to my soul and balm;
And I longed for the moonlit beaches
And the coral and the palm.
He was browned with the sun and weather
(How changed in mood and mien
From the days when the dark-eyed woman
Was throned in his heart a queen!)
He talked of the merry-makers,
Of the flower-crowned native girls;
Their eyes with the lure of midnight,
And their teeth like island pearls.
No word of the dark-eyed woman —
But dance and song and dish,
The white of the branching coral,
The hues of the rainbow fish;
Gossip of sport and battle
For love and faith and truth,
But never a word of the woman
He loved in his careless youth.
The tide on the rocks was crooning
(Sole sound), the bird was still;
And the night lay hot and breathless
On rock and tree and hill.
Two pictures were limned in the darkness —
(And sad, O sad, was the tide!)
A home in a sunlit island,
A grave on a green hillside.
