The Dream Of Festering Doubt

Changing places.
Erasing the existence of certain faces.
Anxieties high.
Rain drops falling from the sky.
Pondering a wonderful dream so it seems.
In the lateness of night their are many things I'm trying to achieve.
Facing a brick wall and knowing you will get through it all.
A voice of confidence saying you will make it.
To survive in a dream, one must realize it is all in your control.
Only financially limited as one has always been.
Somethings will never change.
In debt one must sigh with regret.
Moving to the world a little more quaint.
Seeing images of all the saints.
Lined up in a row all depicting their own inner conflict.
The suffering of those are presumed so great.
The lights dim and then you faint.
Waking up to the shattering a glass.
That use be my home says the man holding dearly onto his crutches.
How could they ever do that to me.
The totally unexpected.
In the mind the sights make it through but are still rejected.
It can't not be for I have not willed it as part of my destiny.
The perfect rose petals start turning brown and wither away.
In time so many things will be forgotten about this day.
Even in greatest of hopes one must still pray.
Holding on to such strong beliefs.
Believing the wishing well will never fade.
Throwing coins in to bring about change.
But what happens when you run out,
or lose count.
Let us not fester this doubt.

Discovering Shakespeare

‘From you have I been absent in the spring.’
The words of Shakespeare have a truly lovely ring,
But, when I was younger, by his words, I was bored,
And his words, written on a page, by me, were ignored.

Now I’m older, I can see that his famous words,
Are actually among the loveliest I’ve ever heard.
Until recently, I couldn’t recite a Shakespeare speech,
But, slowly, line by line, myself, I did teach.

Of his work, I love the rhythm and rhyme,
As it makes it much easier to learn each line.
Being able to recite a short speech, I felt proud,
As I had never performed any of his work aloud.

I was really amazed at what I’d been able to achieve,
And now, from my mind, his words will never leave.
When I feel low, in my mind, his words I recall -
They lift my mood, just as I am about to fall.

I didn’t understand any of his stories before,
But with each day that passes, I’m learning more.
I now understand about the characters and the plots.
Over the last few months, I really have learnt a lot.

Helena from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream, ’
Is very like me in character, or so it seems:
She’s sensitive and cautious and likes to think things through,
And that description can pretty much be applied to me to!

Prior to my Shakespeare Bronze exam, I was full of fear,
But it proved to be one of the highlights of my entire year.
It’s been one of the best experiences of my life to date,
And to take my Shakespeare Silver exam, I just can’t wait.

If only Shakespeare was alive today, he would see
Just how much sheer joy he has managed to bring me.

I Just Drove By

I always go the other way
But my car drove me down today
To a little house on the older side of town
Back when things were never hard
I used to play there in that yard
And I just drove by to see if things had changed
Cokes were just a nickel then
And across the street at the five and ten
A lot of things were cheap and square and strange
And the life we had might have been
But it was one we loved believing in

The Ways Of The World

These are times of uncertainty and widespread discontent
and certain forces of nature on our destruction seem bent.
Though we mostly try very hard to do the right thing
we as a whole get into trouble and then feel the sting.
When our heart isn’t completely in that which we do
there’s no real satisfaction to help and see us through.

There is too much superficiality and of make believe;
to be creative in life is essential like that to conceive.
If we only go about doing what it is we just have to do
without any scope for improvement is a limited view.
To scan the horizon involves looking forward and taking a risk
using one’s intelligence develops confidence and is also brisk.

Though the world seems daunting and at times without cheer
if we have faith in ourselves can overcome much of our fear.
To live for the moment only is something few can afford
but the situation at hand may indicate or offer a reward.
When anyone persists in their efforts there’s a breakthrough
even if the desired result is still some way off it may be true.

To succeed in the world is what we all try most to achieve;
this can be accomplished easily if in what we do we believe.
To change boats in midstream is not the real way to succeed
yet anything may be possible if in life we have genuine need.
To accomplish then what we had set out at first thought to do
depends much on our determination or desire to see it through.

There will usually always be obstacles in whatever we undertake
that is why we shouldn’t mind too much if we learn by mistake.
A lot of the trials in life are such that for some are overbearing
however, if they’re overcome bring success and smooth sailing.
Though where people are around nothing stays the same for too long
as each one demands something else which for a while proves strong.

To get the most out of life is what we’re all living here for
and so everyone usually strives to gain just a little more.
If it happens as it often does that many do not succeed
it’s because the right signs on the way they didn’t read.
The ways of the world are sometimes like a cliff or razor’s edge;
one slip and you’re down regardless of how secure was the ledge.

Some things may happen unexpectedly;
No need to fret or fume or feel depressed;
All things do happen for our good only;
Let’s hope that life makes feel less repressed.

We should not change in ways the world expects;
We must not change if principles are lost;
We can adjust to things if world respects;
For everything, there is a risk and cost!

Worry and fear and doubt and question
Have always been so much easier-

True – at certain points – when required
I have forced my will against myself-

Still in old age
