Dumped

I used to work in a large general store.
My eyes were certainly opened by what I saw.
The way some people behave is so frustrating.
Their lack of care is the thing that I'm really hating.

Empty packages were left on the shelf:
Their contents stolen using a lot of stealth.
You wouldn't believe the things which people steal.
I used to find rotten apple cores and pieces of peel.

Half eaten pasties, still warm from a shop.
Half drunk plastic bottles of fizzy cola pop.
Still in their cartons, discarded burgers and chips
And cups of coffee abandoned after only a few sips.

Sticky sweets which stuck to your shoe:
Sucked, then spat out, as children do.
Soggy, half eaten biscuits which children had chewed,
Always in areas where there shouldn't even be food.

Chilled products were often left out in the heat.
Sandwiches, yoghurts, pies, cheese and meat.
Banana skins on the floor, may seem like a joke,
But you'd soon disagree, if it was your leg you broke.

Just general things dumped, not in their rightful place,
As the short walk back was obviously too much to face!
Glass vases on the floor, smashed to tiny smithereens,
Were not the only things damaged or broken by any means.

Paint and varnish were often knocked on the floor,
But without a word, the culprit would head for the door.
I wondered if people behaved like this in their homes.
If I left stuff dumped in their house, they'd soon moan!

Many of us weren't brought up this way,
But it's a sad reflection of society today.

The House with Nobody in It

Whenever I walk to Suffern along the Erie track
I go by a poor old farmhouse with its shingles broken and black.
I suppose I've passed it a hundred times, but I always stop for a minute
And look at the house, the tragic house, the house with nobody in it.

I never have seen a haunted house, but I hear there are such things;
That they hold the talk of spirits, their mirth and sorrowings.
I know this house isn't haunted, and I wish it were, I do;
For it wouldn't be so lonely if it had a ghost or two.

This house on the road to Suffern needs a dozen panes of glass,
And somebody ought to weed the walk and take a scythe to the grass.
It needs new paint and shingles, and the vines should be trimmed and tied;
But what it needs the most of all is some people living inside.

If I had a lot of money and all my debts were paid
I'd put a gang of men to work with brush and saw and spade.
I'd buy that place and fix it up the way it used to be
And I'd find some people who wanted a home and give it to them free.

Now, a new house standing empty, with staring window and door,
Looks idle, perhaps, and foolish, like a hat on its block in the store.
But there's nothing mournful about it; it cannot be sad and lone
For the lack of something within it that it has never known.

But a house that has done what a house should do,
a house that has sheltered life,
That has put its loving wooden arms around a man and his wife,
A house that has echoed a baby's laugh and held up his stumbling feet,
Is the saddest sight, when it's left alone, that ever your eyes could meet.

So whenever I go to Suffern along the Erie track
I never go by the empty house without stopping and looking back,
Yet it hurts me to look at the crumbling roof and the shutters fallen apart,
For I can't help thinking the poor old house is a house with a broken heart.

The Dead Dont Cry

the dead dont cry,
they weep...
for the undone deeds
of the living...
for the work not finished,
the cup left half-empty,
the song that no one heard.

for the deaf ears,
and the blinded eyes.
for the callous heart,
the spirit left in chains.

for the house half finished,
and the home abandoned.
for the love left holding
the purse, and the scar!

for the holy child
born out of wedlock...
for the table left empty,
the chairs that long and pine.

for the touch that failed,
the quivering lip unseen.
for the pot left empty,
and the fire untended.

for the bodies walking
who have no face...
for the latched door,
and the candle unlit...

the dead dont cry,
they weep...
and the sound of their weeping
shakes the earth!

You left your skeletons.....

Our eyes met with beautiful love.....
I knew you were mine....sent from above.

We worked together like perfect souls...
I never looked past as happiness grows,

Things got harder with each child.
Your eyes....they started turning wild.

Too much? ? ?
Too hard? ? ?

Your mother and I talked today....
your other families would like to meet
our kids....someday

People I don't even know...
want the pieces of me you left on the floor.

Your son cries,
Confusion, in his eyes.

So disgusted at the person you truly are...
I'm bleeding today...from your damned scar.

So what should I tell my kids? ? ?
Don't feel so bad....
come meet the other children that
don't know their dad.

I hate.....
I've never hated like this before.
I can't heal....
I can't close the door.

Your skeletons keep
pushing their way in.....

All I can do is lift my chin.

I hope things are better
in your new invented life....

I'm so sorry I was ever your wife! !

Five Years

Pushing thru the market square, so many mothers sighing
News had just come over, we had five years left to cry in
News guy wept and told us, earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying
I heard telephones, opera house, favourite melodies
I saw boys, toys electric irons and t.v.s
My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things to store everything in there
And all the fat-skinny people, and all the tall-short people
And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people
I never thought Id need so many people
A girl my age went off her head, hit some tiny children
If the black hadnt a-pulled her off, I think she would have killed them
A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheels of a cadillac
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and a queer threw up at the sight of that
I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlour, drinking milk shakes cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine, dont think
You knew you were in this song
And it was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor
And I thought of ma and I wanted to get back there
Your face, your race, the way that you talk
I kiss you, youre beautiful, I want you to walk
Weve got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
Weve got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, thats all weve got
Weve got five years, what a surprise
Five years, stuck on my eyes
Weve got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, thats all weve got
Weve got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
Weve got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, thats all weve got
Weve got five years, what a surprise
Weve got five years, stuck on my eyes
Weve got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, thats all weve got

Fell Me In

Thanks to [email protected] for correcting these lyrics.
I was checking this girl next door
When her parents were out
She'd phone say hey boy, come on right around
So I knock at the door
You was standing with a bottle of red wine
Ready to pour
Dressed in long black satin laced to the floor
So I went in
Then we sat down start kissing caressing
Told me about jacuzzi sounded interesting
So we jumped right in
All calls diverted to answer phone
Please leave a message after the tone
I mean me and her and her parents were kinda cool
But they were the fine line between me and you
We were just doing things young people in love do
Parents trying to find out what we were up to
Saying why were you creepin round late last night
Why did I see two shadows
Moving in your bedroom light
Now you're dressed in black
When I left you were dressed in white
Can you fill me in
Calls diverted to answer phone
Red wine bottle half the contents gone
Midnight return jacuzzi turned on
Can you fill me in
Whenever the coast was clear
And she'd ask me to come out
I'd say hey girl, come on right around
So she knocked at the door
I was standing with the keys in my hand to the 4x4
Jumped in my ride, checking that nobody saw
The club we went in
We got down bounce bounce to the rhythm
Saw it was early morning
Thought we'd better be leaving
So I gave you my jacket for you to hold
Told you to wear it cuzz you felt cold
I mean me and her
We didn't mean to break the rules
I weren't trying to play
Your Mum and Dad for fools
We were just doing things young people in love do
Parents trying to find out what we were up to
Saying why can't you keep your promises no more
Say you'll be home by 12 come strolling in at 4
Out with the girls but leaving
With the boy next door
Can you fill me in
Wearing a jacket who's property
Said you'd been queuing for a taxi
But you left all your money on the tv
Can you fill me in
All they seem to do
Is be checking up on you--baby
Watching our every move
Think someday they might approve--maybe
Why were you creepin round late last night
Why did I see two shadows
Moving in your bedroom light
Now you're dressed in black
When I left you were dressed in white
Can you fill me in
Calls diverted to answer phone
Red wine bottle half the contents gone
Midnight return jacuzzi turned on
Can you fill me in...

A Case Of Murder

They should not have left him there alone,
Alone that is except for the cat.
He was only nine, not old enough
To be left alone in a basement flat,
Alone, that is, except for the cat.
A dog would have been a different thing,
A big gruff dog with slashing jaws,
But a cat with round eyes mad as gold,
Plump as a cushion with tucked-in paws---
Better have left him with a fair-sized rat!
But what they did was leave him with a cat.
He hated that cat; he watched it sit,
A buzzing machine of soft black stuff,
He sat and watched and he hated it,
Snug in its fur, hot blood in a muff,
And its mad gold stare and the way it sat
Crooning dark warmth: he loathed all that.
So he took Daddy's stick and he hit the cat.
Then quick as a sudden crack in glass
It hissed, black flash, to a hiding place
In the dust and dark beneath the couch,
And he followed the grin on his new-made face,
A wide-eyed, frightened snarl of a grin,
And he took the stick and he thrust it in,
Hard and quick in the furry dark.
The black fur squealed and he felt his skin
Prickle with sparks of dry delight.
Then the cat again came into sight,
Shot for the door that wasn't quite shut,
But the boy, quick too, slammed fast the door:
The cat, half-through, was cracked like a nut
And the soft black thud was dumped on the floor.
Then the boy was suddenly terrified
And he bit his knuckles and cried and cried;
But he had to do something with the dead thing there.
His eyes squeezed beads of salty prayer
But the wound of fear gaped wide and raw;
He dared not touch the thing with his hands
So he fetched a spade and shovelled it
And dumped the load of heavy fur
In the spidery cupboard under the stair
Where it's been for years, and though it died
It's grown in that cupboard and its hot low purr
Grows slowly louder year by year:
There'll not be a corner for the boy to hide
When the cupboard swells and all sides split
And the huge black cat pads out of it.

You Havent Left Me Yet

The laughter is gone
The cryin is over
And Im not losing sleep anymore
The walls are all bare
The closets half empty
The phone doesnt ring like before
Im done with falln apart
Im waiting for my change of heart
Chorus:
I wake up alone
Knowin Im on my own again
Got it all straight in my head
Must be something I missed
As I went down the list
Of the things that I need to forget
Everythings gone
But you havent left me yet
I painted our room
Replaced all the curtains
And theres a new rug on the floor
Called up good will
Said come and get it
Everything she left behind is yours
I can still see you drivin away
So why do I still see your face
When....
Repeat chorus
Theres not a picture left
Not a stitch of clothes
But theres still something here
And I dont believe in ghosts
Repeat chorus twice

Things Go Better With Coke #1

Orbison/dees
Roy orbison wants to get together again
Baby, how it hurts to break up, but its so much fun to make up
Lets do the things we used to do, you love me and I love you
Lets talk again, joke again lets get together for a coke again
Things go better with coca cola, things go better with coke
Lets relive the date that we just broke, our favorite cafe, the special of the day
The jukebox playing, things go better with coke
Well, waiter, waiter, treat us right, you remember what we like
Shes back again, by my side again, waiter, we want to feel alive again
Things go better with coca cola, things go better with coke
I;m glad we kept the date we almost broke, our favorite cafe, the special of the day
The jukebox playing, things go better with coke
(spoken) you never get tired of its taste coke after coke
Things go better with coke #2
Orbison/dees
Roy orbison takes a break
Stayed out too late, at work at eight, dont wanna wait for that ten o clock break
Big man, if you can, let me go for a coke right now
For things go better with coca cola, things go better with coke
Ill get caught up if youll let me stop for a coke, a big tall frosty ice cold bottle of coke
Fun goes better with, food goes better with, people go better with coke
The real live one puts extra fun in you and everything you do
Big man, let me take a five minute break, things go better with coke, things go better with coke
(spoken) sometimes on big jobs I drink coke after coke after coke
And I never get tired of the taste
Yeah, things go better with coke
Things go better with coke #3
Orbison/dees
Things go better with coca cola, things go better with coke
Life is fun when youre refreshed and coke refreshes you the best, ah-ah
Fun goes better with, food goes better with, people go better with coke
The real live one puts extra fun in you and everything you do
Things go better with coca cola, things go better with coke
Life is fun when youre refreshed and coke refreshes you the best
So things go better with coca cola, yeah, things go better with coke
Things go better with coke #4
Orbison/dees
C-o-c-a c-o-l-a
Things go better with coca cola, things go better with coke
Life is much more fun when youre refreshed
Food goes better with, fun goes better with, you go better with coke
The real live one puts extra fun in you and everything you do
Things go better with coca cola, things go better with
Things go better with coke

Things go better with coca cola, things go better with coke
Things go better with coca cola, things go better with.....coke
Things go better with coke #5

Half Breed

My father married a Cherokee
My mother's people were ashamed of me
The Indian's said that I was white by law
The white man always called me Indian Squaw
Half breed
Is all I ever heard
Half breed
Let me hate the word
Half breed
She's no good they warned
Both sides were against me since the day I was born
We never settled went from town to town
When you're not welcome you don't hang around
The other children always laughed at me
Give her a feather she's a Cherokee
Half breed
Is all I ever heard
Half breed
Let me hate the word
Half breed
She's no good they warned
Both sides were against me since the day I was born
We weren't accepted and I felt the shame
Fifteen I left and tell me whose to blame
My life since then has been from man to man
But I can't run away from what I am
Half breed
Is all I ever heard
Half breed
Let me hate the word
Half breed
She's no good they warned
Both sides were against me since the day I was born
Half breed
Is all I ever heard
Half breed
Let me hate the word

Glass Rose (Moan Of The Night)

a glass rose
shattered on the bare floor...
tiny pieces glinting

in the late evening light.
an old photograph,
half burned in the ashtray...

hand on fire,
slips down, fingers enter
where faces disappear.

a small crucifix,
the breeze slips through the window,
picking up the scent,

staggers as if drunk.
the cruelty of the door,
the latch, and the shadow...

that laughs as it closes
the book and turns away...
a glass rose,

and the moan of the night!

House for Sale

I stood in the midst of the empty house,
It was silent, empty, and bare,
gone was the laughter the tears and the life,
and the family that once lived there.
I stood there observing, to try to revive
the memories this house had to share,
the secrets, excitement, unhappiness too,
these feelings so willing to bear.
I heard children playing and lapping up life,
I heard adults talking and scolding,
This house bore it all with its solid repose,
and accepted with wisdom beholding.
I stood in the midst of the empty house,
with a feeling of sadness around,
abandoned and empty, a lonely shell,
for the place never uttered a sound,
it was silent and bare, where the rooms had been stripped
and the furniture taken away,
the paint had been scratched and the floor left unwashed
when the house was abandoned that day.
The ghosts from its past walk through each lonely room,
and I sigh as I button my coat,
I slam the front door with an echoing bang
and a lump seems to lodge in my throat-
for there on the green lawn for all eyes to see
with dark letters outstanding on pale
is a board standing taut in the cold winter sun
with the large, lonely wording- "For Sale"

Potassium is an Essential Nutrient!

I want to peel you
Like I might a rotting banana
Exposing your insides
And, savioring the good
Chewing and swallowing
What's left
Leaving the rotten parts behind
The skin left a heap on the floor;
Waiting for the next person to
Slip, trip or fall over
With the realization that it's empty inside-
Nothing is left.
Even the decay discarded
Seperately,
And divided amongst the pits of human waste.
With the consumption of your soul
Nourishing my body like a silver-white
Soft-light Metallic Chemical Element.

Motorway

Motorway food is the worst in the world,
Youve never eaten food like youve eaten on the motorway.
Motorway food is the worst in the world,
The coffee tastes weak and the cakes taste stale
And gasoline fumes are the worst to inhale,
Your stomach rolls over and your face turns pale.
Oh, that motorway livin,
Aint it a thrill to be so free, yeh.
Riding down the motorway,
Got to charge up my batteries,
Rest my seat, rest my eyes,
So tired, tired of livin, tired of livin this motorway livin.
Motorway tea is warm and wet,
The rain is a pouring and its four in the morning,
And its all I can get.
Youve never seen loos like motorway loos,
Thousands of people passing through,
Its enough to put you off of your motorway food.
Oh that motorway living,
Aint it a thrill to be so free, yeh.
Got to get away from
Cats eyes, cold meat pies,
Thousand on raft, cold french fries
So tired, tired of livin, tired of livin this motorway livin.
Motorway food is invariably fried,
It keeps me and feeds me and helps me survive.
Oh that motorway, aint it a thrill to be so free, yeh,
Riding down the motorway, cats eyes, cold meat pies
Thousand on raft, cold french fries,
So tired, tired of livin, tired of livin this motorway livin.
Motorway food is the worst in the world,
Youll never eat food like youve eaten on the motorway.
Motorway food is the worst in the world.
My stomachs upset and I dont feel well,
Gotta get my head down, stop for a while in a motorway hotel.
Mama oh mama, my dear suzi too,
This motorway message is sent just for you.
My headaches improved but my back really hurts,
I never thought Id travel so far to work.

Deeper

We must complete the trip
Try not to lose your grip
No sight of solid ground
And never look straight down
Deeper, deeper, deeper, deeper
Your claustrophobic brain
Sucking you down the drain
The walls are closing in
The air is gettin thin
The elevator broke
It when right trough the floor
It left a burning hole
Down and down and down we go
Were in a deadly spin
Hating this spin were in
Our helpless panic grows
Down and down and down we go
Daylight is at an end
Youll never see again
Youll soon embrace the sight
This cold eternal light
The elevator broke
It when right trough the floor
It left a burning hole
Down and down and down we go
The elevator broke
It when right trough the floor
It left a burning hole
Down and down and down we go
The elevator broke
It when right trough the floor
It left a burning hole
Down and down and down we go

Beware! Criminal

You crawl in bed, it's 3am
You smell of wine and cigarettes
A butterfly under the glass
You are beautiful
But you're not going anywhere
We do the same thing every night
I swear I've heard this song before
A swimmer who has seen a shark
I should really be more wary of the water
You came, you saw, you conquered
Everyone
And I'm left here guessing
Oh what went wrong?
Yeah, I'm down
But not out, and far from done
Hey all! Beware! criminal.
A prison with an intellect
You throw your light selectively
You stole my glow, a seasoned thief
The blacks of my eyes are turning into opals
Today, I'll walk
There's nothing here left for me but empty promises
And the thought of all the things I'm never getting back
You came, you saw, you conquered
Everyone
And I'm left here guessing
Oh what went wrong?
Yeah, I'm down
But not out, and far from done
Beware criminal
Did you think I wouldn't notice?
Did you really think I wouldn't care?
Did you think I wouldn't notice?
Did you really think I wouldn't care?
You came, you saw, you conquered
And I'm left here bleeding
Oh, what went wrong?
Yeah, I'm down
But not out, and far from done
Beware criminal

Broken Dreams

I don’t see a long road ahead of me
And my coffee cup, instead of been half full
It’s always half empty

I got no home
I’m on the streets
An in the cold lonely morning
I’m awaken by somebodys cries an screams

All I’ve got left is my broken dreams

My past's erased from my memory
Anyone I knew before
Never cared enough to contact me

I’ve lost my friends
I’ve lost my family
My life’s falling apart
It’s coming loose at the seems

All I’ve got left is my broken dreams

The dreams I used to dream
When I was a kid
Never left my heart
But I never did them, I never lived

So now I cry into my glass
To try an make it full
I’m crying lost rivers an lost streams

All I’ve got left is my broken dreams

The Afterbirth

Your master had discarded you
when he left for Spain
and left you and your
black and brown mate
and six newly born puppies.

He had decided to give you away
to people who already
had five other dogs,
promising to get
the both of you castrated
and then you got in heat
and it was evident
that none of his promises
he would meet.

I see you with dear brown eyes
lying between your pups,
cuddling and feeding them
and dancing with joy
when you see me.

I turn one of the seats
of the lounge suite over
and it is marked with blood
on the one side
where some navel strings
and afterbirth left their marks

and another of your master’s lies
that you gave birth
on the floor
is exposed
and I wonder why
they didn’t clean off the blood
when it was still a possibility
and if integrity means nothing
to some people?

You rip thourgh house's and homes.
Destroy house as you spin along.
Kill so many of those inesent people, when they think they will be fine then you rip and suck up there shrine.
Leave house's and mess all over the place.
As on April the third 1956 over 400 tornado suck up the homes and left famlies and freinds with broken hearts and left hospitals filled with sad people with bad enjuries that left the, poor nurse's and Doctors work till daylight with out any power fo over 24 hours that ment that some people would die overs in criddicle conditions so remeber April the first is a very, sad day

The Bombed Out Butcher's Shop.

On the third day
of the holidays
you met Janice

half way up Bath Terrace
at the entrance to the flats
where she lived with her gran

she was dressed in her red beret
yellow flowered cotton dress
white socks and brown sandals

she smiled when she saw you
and said
feared you might not show

I told you I'd be here
you said
she looked at you

and said
I know
but some people say things

but don't show
I'm not some people
if I say I'll be here

I'll be here
you said
glad you're here

she said
Gran doesn't like me
going out alone

she says there are strange men
out there who take kids off
and do things to them

and murder them
yes
you said

I read about that boy
they found murdered
near here

she looked concerned
don't worry
you're with me

my mum told me
where to kick them
if they try anything on

oh
Janice said as you both
walked up to the top

of the terrace
to Harper Road
where're we going?

she asked
a bombed out
butcher's shop

you replied
isn't that dangerous?
she asked

not if we're careful
where we tread
you said

isn't that breaking
and entering?
she asked

no we don't break in
you said
we walk in

the back gate
it's not locked
oh

she said
looking concerned
we won't get into trouble

will we? Gran said
she'd tan my backside
if I got into trouble

would I get you into trouble?
you asked
guess not

she said softly
you crossed
Harper Road

and went round the back
of the bombed out
butcher's shop

and opened the gate
and entered
into an empty yard

you shut the gate
after you
and she stood gaping

at the back of the shop
you showed her
the large walk in freezer

where meat had once
been kept
now empty

smelling of piss
and damp
what if you got locked in?

she said
the lock's busted
you said

oh I see
she replied
her eyes large

and her mouth open
in wonder
you took her into

the shop now empty
apart from a large table
with a marble top

where meat
had once been cut
and chopped up

it stinks
she said
yes tramps get in

sometime and shelter
for the night
are they here now?

she asked nervously
no they go off
in the day

you said
giving her
a smile

you took her up
the creaking stairs
to the upper landing

where the sky
shone through the roof
where a bomb

had fallen in
gosh
she said

how weird
one of the rooms
had an old bed frame

pushed in a corner
and the roof
was still there

except where a few tiles
had gone
someone slept there once

she said
and now
they're probably dead

you took her hand
and walked her
to the window

and looked out
on Harper Road
people would have looked out

of this window too
you said
sad isn't it

she said
and you sensed
her lay

on your shoulder
her fair haired
red bereted head.
