Ballade of an Omnibus

"To see my love suffices me."
--Ballades in Blue China.

Some men to carriages aspire;
On some the costly hansoms wait;
Some seek a fly, on job or hire;
Some mount the trotting steed, elate.
I envy not the rich and great,
A wandering minstrel, poor and free,
I am contented with my fate --
An omnibus suffices me.

In winter days of rain and mire
I find within a corner strait;
The 'busmen know me and my lyre
From Brompton to the Bull-and-Gate.
When summer comes, I mount in state
The topmost summit, whence I see
Crœsus look up, compassionate --
An omnibus suffices me.

I mark, untroubled by desire,
Lucullus' phaeton and its freight.
The scene whereof I cannot tire,
The human tale of love and hate,
The city pageant, early and late
Unfolds itself, rolls by, to be
A pleasure deep and delicate.
An omnibus suffices me.

Princess, your splendour you require,
I, my simplicity; agree
Neither to rate lower nor higher.
An omnibus suffices me.

Ballade Of Amoureuse

Not Jason nor Medea wise,
I crave to see, nor win much lore,
Nor list to Orpheus' minstrelsies;
Nor Her'cles would I see, that o'er
The wide world roamed from shore to shore;
Nor, by St. James, Penelope, -
Nor pure Lucrece, such wrong that bore:
To see my Love suffices me!

Virgil and Cato, no man vies
With them in wealth of clerkly store;
I would not see them with mine eyes;
Nor him that sailed, sans sail nor oar,
Across the barren sea and hoar,
And all for love of his ladye;
Nor pearl nor sapphire takes me more:
To see my Love suffices me!

I heed not Pegasus, that flies
As swift as shafts the bowmen pour;
Nor famed Pygmalion's artifice,
Whereof the like was ne'er before;
Nor Oleus, that drank of yore
The salt wave of the whole great sea:
Why? dost thou ask? 'Tis as I swore -
To see my Love suffices me!

Omnibus

Climb up here beside me
We can ride and find a friend unfound
Put your foot upon the laughing gas
And drive your grin around
Omnibus, take all of us
All of us, take omnibus
Aint nothing in the world like a white skinned girl
Make your union jack and make your flag unfurl
You cant say youve ridden
till youve given up your heart and seat
Man that lady clippie rip your ticket
Make your trip complete
Omnibus, take all of us
All of us, take omnibus
Aint nothing in the world like a black skinned girl
Make your shakespeare hard and make your oyster pearl
Dont let horses pass you by
Take a run and leap on
Pull the blinkers from your eyes
Before big bus has gone
Well be stopping off
In every shop until you find that mate
Dont waste time, go on and taste them all
Why dont you fill your plate?
Omnibus, take all of us
All of us, take omnibus
Theres nothing in the world like a gold skinned girl
To make your bonsai weep and make your bamboo curl
Omnibus, take all of us
All of us, take omnibus
Omnibus, take all of us
All of us, take omnibus
Aint nothing in the world like a green skinned girl
But that dont mean to say you cant look

Legislature

Why shout?
When speaking suffices

Shoved by our votes
Our hopes and trust
You reached this House
This isn’t an inn of ale
To blabber and revel
Nor a plunderers’ market
To vandalize public’s nickel
This is a thicket of think tank
Where you have to meditate
Mediate and modulate
Variegated vox populi
And decide our fates

Why shout?
When speaking suffices

Omnibus

There she is Im sure I seen her
Pushing in the queue to get to the front
Join the ladies in my dream
I know that nothing hurts you babe
In my balance in a way
Chorus
Come and take a ride on my omnibus
We could take you right to the terminus
Dont forget your ticket if you want to ride
(catching a ride)
If you want to go inside
Just a dud their hansom falter (? )
Harem on a bus flies over the top
...jeans
Lock up your daughters
Just too late to save the day
Ring my bell and turn away
Chorus
Sweet silver meadows
Protect us from the rain
Please never break
Take us to the stars again
Hear the ways for every where
See my sleighs win the air
Save the girls upstairs for later
Now you wonder if I can manage them all
Wrap them up in christmas paper
Tell them they dont have to pay
Ring my bell and turn away
Chorus
Omnibus ride

thanks' - You Are 'welcome

"Thanks" the six letter word to play

It's just as sweet as you say

It means a lot to many of us

It carries love in an omnibus

But I will offer these seven letters to you

And "Thanks" will bear a lovely hue

Time to open the gates of my kingdom

In my world of poetry you are welcome

Emily Dickinson

How sick—to wait—in any place—but thine

368

How sick—to wait—in any place—but thine—
I knew last night—when someone tried to twine—
Thinking—perhaps—that I looked tired—or alone—
Or breaking—almost—with unspoken pain—

And I turned—ducal—
That right—was thine—
One port—suffices—for a Brig—like mine—

Ours be the tossing—wild though the sea—
Rather than a Mooring—unshared by thee.
Ours be the Cargo—unladed—here—
Rather than the "spicy isles—"
And thou—not there—

Addition

I do not question whether I am happy or unhappy.
Yet there is one thing that I keep gladly in mind --
that in the great addition (their addition that I abhor)
that has so many numbers, I am not one
of the many units there. In the final sum
I have not been calculated. And this joy suffices me.

The Future

The future: time's excuse
to frighten us; too vast
a project, too large a morsel
for the heart's mouth.

Future, who won't wait for you?
Everyone is going there.
It suffices you to deepen
the absence that we are.

Navagrahas

In the play-field of the providence
Playing unambiguously the Umpire
Upon the captains of eminence
And all their teamed players to aspire
Dribbled and dribbled to ever an unreached terminus

Unceasing rolling is fate's frolicking desire
And Earth bullied by its nine balls
Supplicates sometimes even stoking holy-fire
Begetting catered wishes by orisons
Reasonably while Navagrahas adorn spoused attire

And in the chariot of seven horses
Captain Soorya centered of solar empire
Driven consorted with Chaya's bliss
Fielded around by spunky players that require
Empyreal sport indefinitely on rolls

Ten horses do not atall tire
As Soma with Rohini deceptively wanes
Then waxes, then wanes to reinspire..
Handsome Chandra driven with lotus pats
That minds are lit of a luminaire

Sport of space is wary sometimes
A ram can carry on scarefire
Crimson Angaraka while aboard on with weapons
Clement yet a deity for devotees not to mire
That His blessings are bestowed boons

No loss for a daring lion dire
Mounted on while Bhuda of sportive deals
Supportive Brihaspati of brainy spire
Guiding eloquent the wisdom of beings
Rolls on bodies, space much to acquire

With white Sukra at peace are Asuras
And fortune suffices of what they require
Slow but ravenous and main of the players
Sani is the striker yet the holding wire
Spirit of the firmament on rolls

Providential trickery is on occasional hire
Shadowy up and down the spherical nodes
In dark Rahu and Ketu while conspire
Eclipsed Sun and Moon behind shades
Empyreal sport is after all only to admire

The Portent

Horace, BK. V. Ode 20.

Oh, late withdrawn from human-kind
And following dreams we never knew!
Varus, what dream has Fate assigned
To trouble you?

Such virtue as commends of law
Of Virtue to the vulgar horde
Suffices not. You needs must draw
A righteous sword;

And, flagrant in well-doing, smite
The priests of Bacchus at their fane,
Lest any worshipper invite
The God again.

Whence public strife and naked crime
And-deadlier than the cup you shun--
A people schooled to mock, in time,
All law--not one.

Cease, then, to fashion State-made sin,
Nor give thy children cause to doubt
That Virtue springs from Iron within--
Not lead without.

Chain-link Fence

It takes a little pull,
But there you have it:
We are entwined,
All gray metal and olive oil;
This must have sufficed for may centuries,
Because it suffices today.
When I lift my right side
You left raises up;
When I nod my chin,
You say yes yes unto me.

To Edward Clodd

Friend, in whose friendship I am twice well-starred,
A debt not time may cancel is your due;
For was it not your praise that earliest drew,
On me obscure, that chivalrous regard,
Ev'n his, who, knowing fame's first steep how hard,
With generous lips no faltering clarion blew,
Bidding men hearken to a lyre by few
Heeded, nor grudge the bay to one more bard?
Bitter the task, year by inglorious year,
Of suitor at the world's reluctant ear.
One cannot sing for ever, like a bird,
For sole delight of singing! Him his mate
Suffices, listening with a heart elate;
Nor more his joy, if all the rapt heav'n heard.

The Virtue Of Woman

Man of virtue has need;-into life with boldness he plunges,
Entering with fortune more sure into the hazardous strife;
But to woman one virtue suffices; it is ever shining
Lovingly forth to the heart; so let it shine to the eye!

Man I Am and Man Would Be, Love

Man I am and man would be, Love--merest man and nothing more.
Bid me seem no other! Eagles boast of pinions--let them soar!
I may put forth angel's plumage, once unmanned, but not before.

Now on earth to stand suffices,--nay, if kneeling serves, to kneel:
Here you front me, here I find the all of heaven that earth can feel:
Sense looks straight,--not over,under,--perfect sees beyond appeal.

Good you are and wise, full circle: what to me were more outside?
Wiser wisdom, better goodness? Ah, such want the angel's wide
Sense to take and hold and keep them! Mine at least has never tried.
