Ambrose Bierce

Convalescent ['By good men's prayers see Grant restored!']

'By good men's prayers see Grant restored!'
Shouts Talmage, pious creature!
Yes, God, by supplication bored
From every droning preacher,
Exclaimed: 'So be it, tiresome crew
But I've a crow to pick with _you_.'

Bored

Hear me spit on you, wither i
Remold into gold and bury I from - sun
Reborn left to sigh, recure maybe ill
Be born and simplify - the way I lie - before
I get bored, I get bored, I get bored Im bored
Repent by you and trust to figure out
I burn that gift to you - doll and let it shine before
I get bored, I get bored, I get bored, I wish for a real one
Fit and confide, before me or i
I will come clean, it gets worse - its more
Get bored, I get bored, I get bored, a wish for a real one
Get bored, get bored, get bored, I wish for a real one

The Crow and The Butterfly

Ever wonder why the Crow chases the Butterfly?
Have you ever heard the Crow let out it's cry?
I think I found out why...
It's quite the interesting story, I had to pry..

The Butterfly's beauty, the Crow's will never match.
The Crow's life is nothing compared the the Butterfly's since it's first hatch.
If you are good enough to get a Butterfly, that is quite a catch.
Get a Crow somehow and it gets thrown right back out to the patch.

The Crow has had it so much easier than the Butterfly.
Straight jealousy from the Crow because they have to share the sky.
The Butterfly's flight is reason to stare, the Crow's just reason to cry.
Everyone stops to get a glance of a Buttflies, a few Crows and people pass by.

So if you ever hear a Crow cry,
Or see a Butterfly being chased by a Crow,
Just think how bad that Crow wants to be a Butterfly.....

In Prayer

in prayer you kneel you make your pleas
you signify
your lowliness in supplication
you behave
like a slave

you mumble you juggle your words
choppy sometimes as you are in deep sorrow
in hunger in thirst
in dire need of comfort
asking wanting that your prayers
be granted

you genuflect to a certain extent
you are crying
you are silent
yet you are so confused and crowded
you need your prayers to be answered
at once
the soonest

you are dying
or someone you love is dying out there
you want to live
you want the other you love to live some years
you want to be together

hence your prayers
some tears fall on the floors now wet and salty
a flood of tears
a rush of a thousand words in supplication
you fall on the floor
face down the earth hands stretching body flat and so tired

i watch you and i pity you and if i were God myself i could have
heard and granted all our prayers

the prayer room is so silent
it is cold tonight and i am too, so confused hearing nothing

outside a storm is raging
the rain so strong like the wind is coming

i close the door and the windows so there may still be silence
so our prayers may be heard

who knows? maybe, maybe, who knows? we must still continue....

Ch 04 On The Advantages Of Silence Story 12

A preacher imagined his miserable voice to be pleasing and raised useless shouts, thou wouldst have said that the crow of separation had become the tune of his song; and the verse- for the most detestable of voices is surely the voice of asses- appears to have been applicable to him. This distich also concerns him:

When the preacher Abu-l-Fares brays
At his voice Istakhar-Fares quakes.

On account of the position he occupied the inhabitants of the locality submitted to the hardship and did not think proper to molest him. In course of time, however, another preacher of that region, who bore secret enmity towards him, arrived on a visit and said to him: ‘I have dreamt about thee, may it end well!’ ‘What hast thou dreamt?’ ‘I dreamt that thy voice had become pleasant and that the people were comfortable during thy sermons.’ The preacher meditated a while on these words and then said: ‘Thou hast dreamt a blessed dream because thou hast made me aware of my defect. It has become known to me that I have a disagreeable voice and that the people are displeased with my loud reading. Accordingly I have determined henceforth not to address them except in a subdued voice’:

I am displeased with the company of friends
To whom my bad qualities appear to be good.
They fancy my faults are virtues and perfection.
My thorns they believe to be rose and jessamine.
Say. Where is the bold and quick enemy
To make me aware of my defects?
He whose faults are not told him
Ignorantly thinks his defects are virtues.

Victory

Victory is ours!
Said one crow to the other,
As they soared in the sky above.
For below them they had spied
Golden corn, that was ripe,
From which, they would have their feast.
Tantalizing ears of gold
Laying out row upon row
Though as a river when the wind blowed.
'And no one is there'!
Exclaimed one crow in the air
'To protect that golden hair'.
So victory is ours!
Exclaimed the crows beginning there dive
Upon the corn, coming into sight.
But then shots rang out,
And two crows fell to the ground
As the corn waived in the wind.
Then walked two farmers to the crows
Who were hidden out of view
To observe the birds which flew.
Then one farmer spoke to the other
About the corn they defended together,
Exclaiming, 'victory is ours, over all others'.

Don't You Hear Jerusalem Moan

Don't You Hear Jerusalem Moan
Don't you hear Jerusalem moan?
Don't never let a chicken get big enough to crow
Don't you hear Jerusalem moan?
Don't you hear Jerusalem moan?
Don't you hear Jerusalem moan?
Thank God there's a heaven and a ringing in my soul and my soul's got free
Don't you hear Jerusalem moan?
Well a hard-shell preacher you can tell him how he do
Well he chews his own tobacco and he drinks his own brew.
Well a Baptist preacher you can tell him by his coat
Has a bottle in his pocket that he can't hardly tote
Well a Cambellite preacher his soul is saved
Well he has to be baptized every other day
Well the Holy Roller preacher he sure is a sight
Well he gets em all a-rolling and he kicks out the light
Well the Presbyterian preacher he lives in town
His neck's so stiff he can't hardly look around.

Ambrose Bierce

Constancy

Dull were the days and sober,
The mountains were brown and bare,
For the season was sad October
And a dirge was in the air.

The mated starlings flew over
To the isles of the southern sea.
She wept for her warrior lover
Wept and exclaimed: 'Ah, me!

'Long years have I mourned my darling
In his battle-bed at rest;
And it's O, to be a starling,
With a mate to share my nest!'

The angels pitied her sorrow,
Restoring her warrior's life;
And he came to her arms on the morrow
To claim her and take her to wife.

An aged lover-a portly,
Bald lover, a trifle too stiff,
With manners that would have been courtly,
And would have been graceful, if

If the angels had only restored him
Without the additional years
That had passed since the enemy bored him
To death with their long, sharp spears.

As it was, he bored her, and she rambled
Away with her father's young groom,
And the old lover smiled as he ambled
Contentedly back to the tomb.

When a girl is bored

When a girl is bored no voice is beautiful to her ears

When a girl is bored there is nothing to attract her eyes

When a girl is bored day is night and night is night

When a girl is bored dream and wish is really out of mind

When a girl is bored a star in the sky doesn’t glow

When a girl is bored the city is quiet more than ever

When a girl is bored shadows are searching for light

When a girl is bored the colors are meaningless to her heart

When a girl is bored she cries but expects no tears

When a girl is bored she doesn’t want to hear a word

When a girl is bored the sky isn’t blue anymore

When a girl is bored the world is small for her steps

When a girl is bored no one understands what is in her heart

When a girl is bored though everywhere is dark she never loses her hope

The Q and A Show

Sometimes I ask the Lord in prayers, What's the meaning of life?
I wonder what the Bible says about Man's pain and strife?
Sometimes I think I understand, at other times, I'm lost!
So many doctrines close at hand that followed Pentecost!

One preacher says I should be rich! Like Oliver, ask more!
Then suddenly, another hitch, one preacher says stay poor.
One says to tithe and give a tenth, another says a fifth!
I pray to God, Grant me the strength! The strength that I mite give!

Should I stay single or get wed? If children come, what then?
So many questions in my head and all beyond my ken!
I know... Take one day at a time. No need to know it all.
So much to learn, I know that I'm not likely to recall.

I'm like a sponge absorbing truth, if only someone knew!
If only someone had the proof, perhaps I'd have a clue.
If only Jesus told me stuff! I'd listen all day long.
Then I'd obey the God I love, by learning write from rong.

Its Easy To Get Bored

If Im half informed
Sympathize because its easy to get bored
I dont have time to waste
Im busy cultivating useless good taste
You need to know how to lie
The savage civil servants beady eyes
I can call him names
And maims
Then well only see eye to eye
And every breath expelled is wasted
And somebody manage the same lie
Ill spread some more good news
Invented facts that you know you
Can use
Sell them door to door with
Religious fervor that no one can ignore
Its so easy to get bored
Its so easy to get bored
Its so easy to get bored
Its so easy to get bored

HE ASKED AND THE CHILDREN REPLIED SAYING, PREACHER, WE HAVE PUT UP OUR SAVINGS FOR A WAGER! HE AMONGST US WHO TELLS THE GREATEST LIE WILL WIN THE WHOLE MONEY! THE PREACHER FROWNED AND SAID, LISTEN BOYS! IT IS NOT A GOOD THING TO TELL LIES! TAKE ME AS AN EXAMPLE! I HAVE NEVER TOLD A LIE IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! STATED THE PREACHER! Black Crow

Theres a crow flying
Black and ragged
Tree to tree
Hes black as the highway thats leading me
Now hes diving down
To pick up on something shiny
I feel like that black crow
Flying
In a blue sky
I took a ferry to the highway
Then I drove to a pontoon plane
I took a plane to a taxi
And a taxi to a train
Ive been traveling so long
Howm I ever going to know my home
When I see it again
Im like a black crow flying
In a blue, blue sky
In search of love and music
My whole life has been
Illumination
Corruption
And diving, diving, diving, diving.
Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing
Just like that black crow flying
In a blue sky
I looked at the morning
After being up all night
I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light
I looked out the window
And I saw that ragged soul take flight
I saw a back crow flying
In a blue sky
Oh Im like a black crow flying
In a blue sky

Underjoyed

The doctor released me
a case of underjoyed
No lack of nutrition
something I can't avoid

No mental condition
maybe I'm paranoid
or maybe

maybe
I'm just bored
I'm just damn bored
I'm just damn bored
I'm just damn bored

An old friend convinced me
that he was underjoyed
He never caused friction
his ego he destroyed

He made a decision
He jumped into the void
or maybe

maybe
he's just bored
he's just damn bored
he's just damn bored
he's just damn bored

Drown your fears in alcohol
everybody spills and falls
Choke on every dream you ever had

Drown yourself in alcohol
everybody slips and falls
Choke on every dream you ever had

Keep yourself in 6 degrees
no one ever comforts me
why should they bother
When I'm alone and I'm so damn bored

I am so bored
I am so bored
I am so
NO NO NO NOW
BORED

I am so bored
I am so bored
I'm so damned
that keeps me underjoyed

In My Mind

Album : Silencer (2001)
In my mind, in my mind a world of enchantment
Being sung through my mind
In my mind, visual enhancement
And I find myself in a red painted barn,
A million stars they pick me up and spin me
CHORUS
And now I am floating in a land of confusion
Or is it reality or just an illusion
And nothing makes sense, no start and no end
When you get more is when you get bored
In my mind, in my mind
Turning the handle and it's starting to stain
In my mind burns like a candle
And the wax tells a fairy tale
My heads for sale
I'm swimming through the hail
REPEAT CHORUS
In my mind, in my mind, in my mind
In my mind, (why can't you find yourself another place to rest...) in my mind, in my mind
In my mind, in my mind, in my mind
In my mind I see a red painted barn,
A million stars they pick me up and spin me
And now I am floating in a land of confusion
Or is it reality or just an illusion
And nothing makes sense, no start and no end
Cos when you get more is when you get bored
When you get more is when you get something
(Why can't you find yourself another place to rest...)
Cos when you get more is when you get bored
When you get more is when you get bored
When you get more is when you get bored
When you get more is when you get something
(Why can't you find yourself another place to rest...)
When you get more is when you get bored
When you get more is when you get bored

Son Of A Preacher Man

(john hurley / ronnie wilkins)
Billy-ray was a preachers son
And when his daddy would visit hed come along
When they gathered round and started talkin
Thats when billy would take me walkin
A-through the back yard wed go walkin
Then hed look into my eyes
Lord knows to my surprise
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, mmm, yes he was
Being good isnt always easy
No matter how hard I try
When he started sweet-talkin to me
Hed come and tell me everything is all right
Hed kiss and tell me everything is all right
Can I get away again tonight?
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, lord knows he was
How well I remember
The look that was in his eyes
Stealin kisses from me on the sly
Takin time to make time
Tellin me that hes all mine
Learnin from each others knowing
Lookin to see how much weve grown
And the only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, oh, yes he was
He was the sweet-talking son of a preacher man
I guessed he was the son of a preacher man
Sweet-lovin son of a preacher man
Ahh, move me

My Hands Are Folded

My Hands Are Folded

my hands are folded in supplication
I need your help, i need to relax
i need calm, rest, light, peace
courage, forgiveness

my hands are folded
i bow down to my only Saviour
my anchor of safety
my harbor of protection
my heaven of peace

my eyes look up to you
with confidence, with hope
i come as one sick
to his physician
as one poor and needy
to the Lord of heaven and earth

grant that i may see you
in all things
in good and ill health
in joy as in sorrow

grant me oh Lord
the grace to accept with patience
the monotony of daily tasks
to embrace with resignation
the fatigue and exhaustion
of days too long and too full
for my physical strength

grant me the ability to be relaxed
and be calm in the thought of your love
to find rest in the assurance
that you are with me
always and forever...Amen
