Ambrose Bierce

Business

Two villains of the highest rank
Set out one night to rob a bank.
They found the building, looked it o'er,
Each window noted, tried each door,
Scanned carefully the lidded hole
For minstrels to cascade the coal
In short, examined five-and-twenty
Good paths from poverty to plenty.
But all were sealed, they saw full soon,
Against the minions of the moon.
'Enough,' said one: 'I'm satisfied.'
The other, smiling fair and wide,
Said: 'I'm as highly pleased as you:
No burglar ever can get through.
Fate surely prospers our design
The booty all is yours and mine.'
So, full of hope, the following day
To the exchange they took their way
And bought, with manner free and frank,
Some stock of that devoted bank;
And they became, inside the year,
One President and one Cashier.

Their crime I can no further trace
The means of safety to embrace,
I overdrew and left the place.

Bank Robber

I much admire, I must admit,
The man who robs a Bank;
It takes a lot of guts and grit,
For lack of which I thank
The gods: a chap 'twould make of me
You wouldn't ask to tea.

I do not mean a burglar cove
Who climbs into a house,
From room to room flash-lit to rove
As quiet as a mouse;
Ah no, in Crime he cannot rank
With him who robs a Bank.

Who seemeth not to care a whoop
For danger at its height;
Who handles what is known as 'soup,'
And dandles dynamite:
Unto a bloke who can do that
I doff my bowler hat.

I think he is the kind of stuff
To be a mighty man
In battlefield,--aye, brave enough
The Cross Victorian
To win and rise to high command,
A hero in the land.

What General with all his swank
Has guts enough to rob a Bank!

A Tall Story part two

There is a bridge that crosses over a river
A river that is eerie and makes you quiver
With the light of the moon the river will gleam
and a boat will go sailing, on its own down
stream. The mist will come from out of the trees
and horrible sounds can be heard in the breeze.
It sounded like cats caught up in a fight a claim
for territory in the dead of night, but cats never fight
on the waters edge just in case they fall over the ledge.
A river bank full of matted reeds where plants had died
without dispersing their seeds.A man dressed in green
who paddles the stream who can be seen clear in the
moonlit beam.Sometimes you hear him digging on
the side of the river bank, could this be true or is it
some sort of a prank
A river full of alge green and that's how it had
always been. No carp, no bream no fish to fish not
even a place for a secret wish.
No river bank wildlife to give it grace, just run over the
bridge and get out of this place.
The story tells of a robber who stood about three feet
tall and because of his height he couldent climbe over
the wall. Now behind the wall was the river which spread
down far and wide and the man in green had a problem
because he could'nt get to the other side.So he hid the
loot inside his boot and started to dig under the wall
but as he dug the water flooded in and he sank to
the bottom of the pool.
Apart from one thing he could not swim and the weight
of the loot that was in his boot no doubt made him take
root.If you go to the river and see the man in green, then
please come back and tell us what you have seen.
This is a tall story one with a short tale, I am sorry it
didn't excit you, but my next one wont fail.

let The New Year 2k+9 Bloom!

In a world that is

Free from terrible terrorism and death
Full of happy harmony and warmth
Free from fateful wars and schisms
Full of hopping hopes and optimism
Free from wretched hatred and bigotry
Full of pure happiness and joy
Free from painful penury and poverty
Full of crystal understanding and aplomb
Free from nasty violence and bombs
Full of sweet smiles and cheers
Free fromdeadly flaws and fears
Full of pleasant peace and poise
Free from fanatic racism and strife
Full of prosperous pleasure and health
Free from disastrous floods and quakes
Full of vergent vegetation and lands
Free from global warming and heat
Full of bracing breeze and air
Free from wicked ego and envy
Full of Divine wisdom and knowledge

I Wish My Own Uterus Was Left Alone

Didn't I tell you not to use,
That kind of language 'inside' this house?

'Yeah, but mommy...
Daddy uses it inside, outside,
And 'everywhere'.'

And tell me this,
Why is it you rush to the mailbox...
When the mailman comes everyday.
What's going on?

'I'm waiting for a letter from the President.
I wrote to ask him a question.
I want to know why he hasn't replaced my piggy bank.
With the money I had in it.'

Didn't I tell you your father did that?

'Yeah but daddy said if it wasn't for the President,
The gas prices wouldn't be high.
And he would be able to buy his own cigarettes.'

The President had nothing to do with your father's actions.

'Tell that to daddy.
He said he can't wait to vote him out of office.'

And what do you think the President will say about that?

'I don't care.
I just want my money and my piggy bank back.'

I wish my own uterus was left alone.
Without debating over who stays and who goes.
Pretty soon we'll need permission to use the bathroom.

'Huh? '

Don't worry about it.
Trust me.
What you have and how it's used...
Will 'never' be up for debate.

'Mommy?
Nevermind.
I don't even know what to ask.
I'll just wait to get my letter from the President.'

Frank and his Little Bank

When he was quite a small boy, Frank
Was fond of useful playthings;
So he was given a toy bank
That he might learn the way things
Were done in the financial world;
So, on the playroom floor he curled,
Tho' short of pence, and had great dreams
Of wonderful financial schemes.

No lack of pennies grieved small Frank,
He simply took some paper
And posted slips into his bank
A cunning childish caper.
And soon he found that, with due care,
He could become a millionaire.
A happy child. And all day
He sang himself this little song:

'If papers I have not enough
Each standing for a penny
I take it out and tear the stuff,
And then I've twice as many.
And if my bank's not full, why then
I tear them all tn two again.
So all day long I tear and sing
And grow as rich as anything.'

In course of time Frank learned to walk
And his perambulations
Led to strange fields; he learned to talk
And made some fine orations.
He left his school, and went to work;
He sought the vote, and stood for Bourke
And, being voluble, was sent
For years and years to Parliament.

But, tho' he grew in many ways
And wondrously developed
His childish money complex stayed
Until it had enveloped
His whole attention. So that, when
Acute depression comes to men,
And things financial all go wrong,
He sings again his little song:

'When lack of money troubles brew
For any stricken nation
You simply tear your notes in two
By process of inflation.
And of this does not serve, why then
You just divide them up again
Until, with new financial health,
The whole land overflows with wealth.'

Read All About It

Riots on our city streets
violence behind closed door
while the rich are getting richer
all the rest are sad and poor.
Young people can't find work
the elderly left on the scrapheap
people are feeling anxious
they struggle to get some sleep.
But that's all the bad news
surely there's some good as well?
this used to be a great country
not a mixture of misery and Hell.
The papers only cover the bad stuff
this is what we all want to read
but this isn't a bad place to live
full of badness, poverty, and greed.
What about the doctors and nurses
who tend the sick in their hospital beds
or all those selfless charity workers
with only good thoughts inside their heads?
People running marathon after marathon
to help someone who is ill and in need
they do it because they're full of compassion
not motivated by lots of money or greed.
So this country isn't yet gone to the dogs
whatever the newspapers like to say
there's still lots of brightness to be found
not everything is dull, depressing, and Grey!

In A Fair World

I cannot empathize with the poor since I'm not in poverty
And I can only imagine how miserable life must be
For those who go to sleep hungry they live with death each day
In a fair World this would not be it would be fair to say.

In a fair World this would not be but all in life's not fair
And thousands are in poverty for every millionaire
In third World Countries every year millions of hunger die
The crops don't grow in rain starved lands, the parched earth far too dry.

In a fair World there would be enough food to go around
And not one hungry person in the whole World to be found
But there is only hunger where poverty reside
And the gap between the haves and have nots has never been so wide.

In a fair World there would not be want and need and very little crime
But the social gap keeps widening despite the march of time
And I who have never lived in the slums or in a third World Land
What it feels like to be really poor could never understand.

A Superstition About A Black Butterfly

if it is a brown butterfly that flutters inside
the house
we have reasons to be glad
for it means money

if it is a black butterfly we better prepare
for it means death
sorrow, lament

last night the moon was full and it was floating
on the clouds
the sky was so dark the distant star in contrast
flickers like a firefly full of life

i have seen Venus, the neighboring planet
i keep the joy of light

there came a black butterfly
inside the room passing through the window
while you were sleeping
the light of the moon was all over you

i have seen death
it is inside me this love fading like a faint light
like that most distant star
losing the essence of its light

Coal-Truck

I am a coal-truck
Carrying gold dust.
Someone threw some
Coal-dust upon
My gold-dust.

I am a coal-truck
In a gold mine.
Someone struck a coal vein
And piled me full in vain.

I am a coal-truck
Covered in subterranean dust.
Someone shovelled my soil
And found an ancient bone
All coiled.

I am a coal-truck
Waiting for the rain.
The sun is my rail
The night my shed.

I am a coal-truck
Rumbling all the way.
Wash me in the rain-storm
And fill me full of coke
Until I choke.

A Soldier's Reprieve

'Twas in the United States of America some years ago
An aged father sat at his fireside with his heart full of woe,
And talking to his neighbour, Mr Allan, about his boy Bennie
That was to be shot because found asleep doing sentinel duty.

"Inside of twenty-four hours, the telegram said,
And, oh! Mr Allan, he's dead, I am afraid.
Where is my brave Bennie now to me is a mystery."
"We will hope with his heavenly Father," said Mr Allen, soothingly.

"Yes, let us hope God is very merciful," said Mr Allan.
"Yes, yes," said Bennie's father, "my Bennie was a good man.
He said, 'Father, I'll go and fight for my country.
Go, then, Bennie,' I said, 'and God be with ye.' "

Little Blossom, Bennie's sister, sat listening with a blanched cheek,
Poor soul, but she didn't speak,
Until a gentle tap was heard at the kitchen door,
Then she arose quickly and tripped across the floor.

And opening the door, she received a letter from a neighbour's hand,
And as she looked upon it in amazement she did stand.
Then she cried aloud, "It is from my brother Bennie.
Yes, it is, dear father, as you can see."

And as his father gazed upon it he thought Bennie was dead,
Then he handed the letter to Mr Allan and by him it was read,
And the minister read as follows: "Dear father, when this you see
I shall be dead and in eternity.

"And, dear father, at first it seemed awful to me
The thought of being launched into eternity.
But, dear father, I'm resolved to die like a man,
And keep up my courage and do the best I can.

"You know I promised Jemmie Carr's mother to look after her boy,
Who was his mother's pet and only joy.
But one night while on march Jemmie turned sick,
And if I hadn't lent him my arm he'd have dropped very quick.

"And that night it was Jemmie's turn to be sentry,
And take poor Jemmie's place I did agree,
But I couldn't keep awake, father, I'm sorry to relate,
And I didn't know it, well, until it was too late.

"Good-bye, dear father, God seems near me,
But I'm not afraid now to be launched into eternity.
No, dear father, I'm going to a world free from strife,
And see my Saviour there in a better, better life."

That night, softly, little Blossom, Bennie's sister, stole out
And glided down the footpath without any doubt.
She was on her way to Washington, with her heart full of woe,
To try and save her brother's life, blow high, blow low.

And when Blossom appeared before President Lincoln,
Poor child, she was looking very woebegone.
Then the President said, "My child, what do you want with me?"
"Please, Bennie's life, sir," she answered timidly.

"Jemmie was sick, sir, and my brother took his place."
"What is this you say, child? Come here and let me see your face."
Then she handed him Bennie's letter, and he read if carefully,
And taking up his pen he wrote a few lines hastily.

Then he said to Blossom, "To-morrow, Bennie will go with you."
And two days after this interview
Bennie and Blossom took their way to their green mountain home,
And poor little Blossom was footsore, but she didn't moan.

And a crowd gathered at the mill depot to welcome them back,
And to grasp the hand of his boy, Farmer Owen wasn't slack,
And tears flowed down his cheeks as he said fervently,
"The Lord be praised for setting my dear boy free."

Happy Holi!

On Dol Poornima
When the dark night
Dispels itself
Into the silvery light
of the Full Moon's
Luminescence.

In those beams of
Its translucent
Whites
You'll see how the
Moon delights :)
In playing this Festival
of Colours
With the night's
Greys and blacks
of shadowy sights!

And then you'll realise
That the eternal moon
Has always loved its
Companion - The Night.

For them, every moonlit
Night is a game of love
Playing....Happy Holi!

Thief Of Hearts

(a. rich, j. friedman, j. kraus, h. hattler)
Producer: trevor horn
Album: wildest dreams (96)
Let me tell you about a man I knew
Yeah, I knew him all too well
My attitude has always been you can have me for tonight
But not for tomorrow
Its gonna cost you plenty, more than you can afford
More than you can borrow
Well I can make them fall in love just as easy as i
Pick their pockets hey
And when Ive done the deed I jump on a freight train
And make my getaway
Im a thief of hearts, a burglar in the night
Before they knew what hit them I was out of sight
Been a thief of hearts, now Im paying for my crimes
Cause now youre gone and stolen mine
I met you on a starry night, full moon in your eyes
Did something strange to me
I was all prepared to spin my web, take you for a ride
But there was a fork in the street
Well I didnt mean to fall in love, didnt practice the rules
That Ive been taught
You never get involved, never drop your defences
But this time I got caught
Im a thief of hearts, a burglar in the night
Before they knew what hit them I was out of sight
Been a thief of hearts, now Im paying for my crimes
Cause now youre gone and stolen mine
Thief of hearts, paying for my crimes
Thief of hearts, and now youve gone and stolen mine
Feels so good, I want more, it should be against the law

Full Moon

Havent you noticed a kind of madness in my eyes?
Its only me, dear, in my midnight disguise.
Pay no attention if I crawl across the room.
Its just another full moon.
Dont be afraid of me when Im walking in my sleep.
Dont get alarmed, dear, when I start to crawl and creep.
Try not to listen when I mumble like a loon.
Its just another full moon.
Its just another full moon.
You see before you a truly broken man.
cause when it gets to midnight, I dont know who I am.
Full moons a-callin, and its put a curse on me,
And it will never set me free.
The full moons still up there,
Like a great white balloon.
The owls are a-callin,
And theyre singin my tune.
The night keeps a-callin.
I wish the day would come soon,
To get away from another full moon.
Here comes another full moon.
If your hands start shakin
When night starts to fall,
If youre scared of the moonlight
And the shadows on the wall,
If the face in the mirror
Isnt you at all,
Its just another full moon.
Its just another full moon.
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
Its just another full moon.

I Looked At That Fool And Smiled

There is nothing like being in love.
Especially with someone who has not a clue,
As to who you are.
And shows as much respect...
As a passing stranger.

I was once told many years ago,
I could be a bank president...
If I put my mind to it.
I agreed!

But my mind wasn't set,
On the credits and debts that others kept.
I needed and wanted to 'own' my destiny.
And 'if' I wanted someone to monitor my resources...
I would select a bank.
And I would pay that bank president,
To oversee...
My property.

But happy am I,
To have those days pass me by.
And I am blessed to continue to fly.
With my ultimate ambition,
YET to be realized.
Oh...
But it my sights,
It is becoming clarified.

And 'if' you happen to be reading this...
From wherever in the world,
You may have my words interpreted.
Wherever in the 'world' you may sit.
You may 'already' have a hint of it!

The thing I own I am most proudest of...
Is a bus pass.
That's right!
The proudest thing I am 'going' to do?
Is to have my words read...
From 'wherever' you locate them,
To go directly into your head.
Enough said!

I am not bragging about that.
It will become fact.
And I knew that as a child!
I kicked other things around for a while.
Hey...
Life is a learning process.
Is it not?

That is why when I was told,
Many years ago...
I could be a bank president,
I looked at that fool and smiled.

I did not have to earn a Master's in Business.
I was 'born' a Master OF Business.

Pioneer. storypoem

John Willy was a collier lad
and life for him was not too bad
Until the day that he took bad
and could no longer dig for coal.
He had to fill his time somehow.
He found life boring on the dole.

He had left school soon as he could
because it was then understood.
Lads followed Dads just they should.
John Willy was a clever lad
so he returned to studying.
He seized the chance he never had.

John Will chose to study law,
that no pit lad had done before.
He finished with the highest score.
He was awarded his degree
and worked for a solicitor.
For several years successfully.

He became well known to the courts
and took on cases of all sorts
and never sold his client short.
He very rarely lost a case.
His success was phenomenal.
For pit lads are a hardy race.

The time had come to specialise
and he had come to realise
That men who suffer injuries
Should sue for compensation
and make employers pay the cost.
This caused great consternation.

Amongst the greedy coal owners
Prone to cutting corners
and exploiting their coalminers.
They were content to let men die
Because they chose to penny pinch.
John Willy thought he’d show them why.

His client had an injured spine
a family man of twenty nine
Who had been injured down the mine.
John Willy proved successfully
Poor safety practice was the cause.
The mine owner was found guilty.

The judge decreed that he must pay
compensation. Paving the way,
for health and safety laws today.
Employers know they must obey
rules laid down by government.
Because John Willy led the way.

Stranger In A Strange Land

Was many years ago that I left home and came this way
I was a young man full of hopes and dreams
But now it seems that all is lost and nothing gained
Sometimes things aint what they seem
No brave new world no brave new world
Night and day I scan horizon sea and sky
My spirit wanders endlessly
Until the day will dawn and friends from home discover why
Hear me calling rescue me
Set me free, set me free
Lost in this place and leave no trace
Stranger in a strange land
Land of ice and snow
Trapped inside this prison
Lost and far from home
One hundred years have gone and men again they come that way
To find the answer to the mistery
They found his body lying where if fell that day
Preserved in time for all to see
No brave new world no brave new world
Lost in this place to leave no trace
What became off men that started
All are gone and souls departed
Left me here in this prison
So all alone

Action

I gotta regret right now
I'm feeling this
The air is so cold and null
I'm feeling this
Let me go in her room
I'm feeling this
I love all the things you do
I'm feeling this
Show me the way to bed
I'm feeling this
Show me the way you move
I'm feeling this
Now she just shows her blur
I'm feeling this
I love all the things you do
I'm feeling this
Fate fell short this time
Your smile fades in the summer
Place your hand in mine
I'll leave when i wanna
Were do we go from here
Turn all the light's down now
Smiling from ear to ear
I'm feeling this
My breathing is got to loud
I'm feeling this
Show me the bedroom floor
I'm feeling this
Show me the bathroom mirror
I'm feeling this
Were taking this way too slow
I'm feeling this
Take me away from here
I'm feeling this
Fate fell short this time
Your smile fades in the summer
Place your hand in mine
I'll leave when i wanna
Fate fell short this time
Your smile fades in the summer
Place your hand in mine
I'll leave when i wanna
This place is never the same again
After you came and went
How can you say you meant anything
Different to anyone standing alone on the street
With a cigarette on the first night we met
Look to the past and remember a smile
And mabye tonight i can breathe for a while
I'm not in the seat i think i'm falling a sleep
But then all that it means is i'll always be dreaming of you
Fate fell short this time
Your smile fades in the summer
Place your hand in mine
I'll leave when i wanna
