To combat I strive and find at close quarters
The opposition, who build a closet of anxiety.
Struggling and wincing, the combat is high,
A higher man shall concentrate and win.
The biggest one will fight for his own achievement,
The other one, a smaller achiever, graces the living of others.

The Combat Soldier
Many accept the name of soldier,
Yet sit in the office, at the rear.
Whilst the real soldier, the combat soldier,
Fight the enemy, eye to eye.
Their uniforms dirty, faces weathered,
Hands rough, minds tethered.
They’ve seen death’s hand, reaching for them,
Their friend’s, death did condemn.
Their weapons are scratched, and used,
Long in the battle, they are abused.
These soldiers seek refuge, in the wire,
Where many spend the operation in its entire.
The combat soldier gets a short rest,
Only to go back out, confined by their vest.
For days they spend in a crosshair,
Terrorist seeking them, death they declare.
Combat soldier, many missions did you fulfill,
Many friends lost, forever still.
No esteem or awards will you receive,
Those with the rank, medals you will receive.
Though the combat soldier defends the post,
Their treated like the lowest, or a ghost.
The soldier and combat soldier, aren’t the same,
The only similarities are in the name.

Single Step
As I stand at one end of the long path my heart beats with anticipation. Now as the door sling open and you a wait at the other end for the music to begin my thoughts drift. I began to think with one single step life as we knew it will be done and a new life shall begin. A life that may span I hope for fifty years or more. A life filled with laughter, but also sometimes there will be sorrow. A life filled with millions of smiles but also there will be thousands of tears. A life were our beauty will shine as bright as the morning sun yet as the years go on in most eyes hopefully except but our own our beauty will fade like the sun into the night. Our life together will go through many changes; except for our love for one another. Woo the wedding march has started and you have took that first single step to our life of love.

A Military Brat
Though she knows both this and that
Except for where next she will be living at
Lived that life, as both daughter and now wife
As she is just, a Military brat.
She has no place to call her home
As around the world she has roamed
A new life to begin, as an old one did end
That life for her is all that is known.
New friends always for her to meet
As goodbye to the old ones she says with a weep
Always somewhere new, sometimes with no clue
But in her heart and soul memories she will keep.
She has gone to where our country has cried
And always with honor and also with her pride
With a smile on her face, which cant be erased
She was always at her fathers, and now husbands side.
Many times though her living style has changed
Sometimes when she sees the sand she expects the rain
And sometime when she speaks, an interpreter she seeks
And many time driving she’s in the wrong lane.
With her life she will not get rich or even fat
Never been in a war or fought in any combat
Never ate any rations, but has always been in fashion

Wounds
Can we bandage and bathe my comrade?
His wounds are advertised, all over his body.
