Working with Woody Allen is like filming Howard Hughes's will. It's a very mysterious and strange event. You never get a peek at the whole will.

What if Woody Allen called me and said, I'm working on this movie and there's a really divine role for you. We want exactly you! It would be such a fantasy. Forget it! My idol, Woody Allen!

It was kind of scary because working with Woody Allen becomes sort of a big deal in your mind. He directs in that Woody Allen character some of the time - he has these idiosyncrasies that are really charming and funny.

I don't agree with everything he did in his life, but we're dealing with this Howard Hughes, at this point. And also ultimately the flaw in Howard Hughes, the curse so to speak.

Makes You Laugh and Cry At the Same Time-1
In the Woody Allen movie
he is standing in front of a dark painting
along side a woman dressed all in black.
'What do you think it means? he said.
Without looking at him
she says;
'it expresses the dark, filthy destiny
of the human race,
Its expresses degradation,
the horror of living.
The hopelessness.'
Something to that effect.
Woody Allen says:
What are you doing Thursday night? '
She says
'Committing suicide.'
He says'
'What are you doing Wednesday night? '
Woody is focused on getting a date.
She is focused on Darkness.
Both want
what they want.
Makes you laugh and cry at the same time.

There was a strange atmosphere on the set because we were filming in this large house, which was used for troubled children. You'd go in and find walls had been burnt down. The building was charged with this history and it stayed with us throughout the filming.

You ain't got a mortgage or a lease on me.
None that we've agreed upon.
And none that you can see.
You ain't got a ring or a title to keep me leashed up tight.
And what you think I've got,
You're not gonna get that close to take a bite!
With or without your teeth behind your 'grill'...
You old gold diggin' geezer!
Peek a boo doo peek a boo doo,
Peek a boo doo boo!
Poppa dada poppa.
Poppa dada poppa.
Peek a boo doo peek a boo doo,
Peek a boo doo boo!
Poppa dada poppa.
Poppa dada poppa.
You just wanna ride in my car.
Poppa dada poppa.
Poppa dada poppa.
And take you to places to feed your greedness.

Peek-a-boo!
Peek-a-boo!
I can see you
And I know what you do
So put your hands on your face
And cover up your eyes
Dont look until I signal
Peek-a-boo! peek-a-boo! peek-a-boo!
The way that we werent is what well become
So please pay attention while I show you some
Of whats about to happen
Peek-a-boo!
I know what you do
Cause I do it too
Laugh if you want to or say you dont care
If you cannot see it you think its not there
It doesnt work that way

Howard Hughes himself was a regular at the restaurant, and in a way it became his headquarters, too. Howard had recently relocated to Las Vegas, so when he wanted to do business in Los Angeles, he went into the back of our restaurant to use the telephone.

Peek-A-Boo
The cunningest thing that a baby can do
Is the very first time it plays peek-a-boo;
When it hides its pink little face in its hands,
And crows, and shows that it understands
What nurse, and mamma and papa, too,
Mean when they hide and cry, 'Peek-a-boo, peek-a-boo.'
Oh, what a wonderful thing it is,
When they find that baby can play like this;
And everyone listens, and thinks it true
That baby's gurgle means 'Peek-a-boo, peek-a-boo';
And over and over the changes are rung
On the marvelous infant who talks so young.
I wonder if any one ever knew
A baby that never played peek-a-boo, peek-a-boo.
'Tis old as the hills are. I believe
Cain was taught it by Mother Eve;
For Cain was an innocent baby, too,
And I am sure he played peek-a-boo, peek-a-boo.
And the whole world full of the children of men,
Have all of them played that game since then.
Kings and princes and beggars, too,
Everyone has played peek-a-boo, peek-a-boo.
Thief and robber and ruffian bold,
The crazy tramp and the drunkard old,
All have been babies who laughed and knew
How to hide, and play peek-a-boo, peek-a-boo.

Once She Takes Them Away And Leaves
Does anyone find it mysterious and strange,
That when Mother Nature pays a surprise visit...
She is less impressed where one lives.
Or how exquisite one's home is.
Or the status they have.
OR educational degrees.
Does anyone believe Mother Nature grieves,
Over those who have 'achieved' complete selfishness.
Does anyone find it mysterious and strange,
That Mother Nature could care less...
Who is entitled and remains,
With thoughts they are better than the rest with less.
Does anyone find it mysterious and strange,
That Mother Nature could care less...
Who worships 'things' and is left distressed,
Once She takes them away and leaves.
