Yeah I do and I don't mind, in fact that is one of the real encouraging things about this whole career of mine is that there are tunes I wrote almost thirty years ago that I will still play in front of an audience and I still like the old tunes.

Passion

The keys to notes play tunes of loss,
Tunes of longing, tunes of blues.
'Til metal enshrouding the air does trump with
Tunes of longing, tunes of blues.
Wood and string provide a base for
Tunes of longing, tunes of blues.
Encased in brass belong the bones of
Tunes of longing, tunes of blues.
Emblems and traps do kick and swear by
Tunes of longing, tunes of blues.

Until laughter disturbs this sweet eden,
My tortured soul lies bare.
I leave my emotions encapsulated
In sonic vibrations of air.

The tunes of longing and tunes of blues
Are played until the eve
When players no longer respect their tears
And thus, themselves, deceive.

The Tin-Whistle Player

'Tis long since, long since, since I heard
A tin-whistle played,
And heard the tunes, the ha'penny tunes
That nobody made!

The tunes that were before Cendfind
And Cir went Ireland's rounds
That were before the surety
That strings have given sounds!

And now is standing in the mist,
And jigging backward there,
Shrilling with fingers and with breath,
A tin-whistle player!

He has hare's eyes, a long face rimmed
Around with badger-grey;
Aimless, like cries of mountain birds
The tunes he has to play

The tunes that are for stretches bare,
And men whose lives are lone
And I had seen that face of his
Sculptured on cross of stone,
That long face, in a place of graves
With nettles overgrown.

Instant tunes only just been made
Instant songs never to be played
Instant tunes hanging out to dry
Let me try to introduce you to
Instant tunes
Instant tunes
Instant tunes
Instant tunes
Ever and ever will they give us pleasure
Their instant, still instant
Like mother used to make it -- oh!
Instant tunes give instant cash
Make me want to start a backlash
Let me have the recipe
And make me some lovely, lovely

Rock N Roll Is A Vicious Game

(myles goodwyn)
Published by goody two tunes, inc. - bmi
He rocked his way through yesterday, lord he thought he had a chance
He played guitar and wrote some tunes, of love and romance
He did his share of travelin, like a dog without a home
A fugitive who would rather give, a star that never shone
Isnt it a pity, isnt it a shame
No one ever warned the boy
Rock n roll is a vicious game, oh yeah
He said he wouldnt get led around, or caught up in the games
Or end up in a gallery, of faces with no names
And rock n roll was in his soul, and music was a friend
He recorded a song that made us sing along, and he was on the road again
Isnt it a pity, isnt it a shame
No one ever warned the boy
Rock n roll is a vicious game, oh oh, oh yeah, oh oh
Stage fright, ooh, and long black limousines
Hes pushing himself a way too hard, or so it seems
He opened up his heart to us, he gave us what he could
We symphathized and harmonized, he made us all feel good
But its funny how those things can change, and time can pass us by
Songs that moved us so easily, no longer make us cry
Now isnt it a pity, isnt it a shame
No one ever warned the boy
Rock n roll is a vicious game, oh oh, oh
Oh yeah, oh, oh oh oh, oh, yeah, yeah yeah yeah
My my my, rock n roll is a vicious game, yeah
Rock n roll, rock n roll, yeah, yeah, yeah, ooh

Peter Gunn's Gun

by Michael Leonard, Bobby Weinstein & Jon Stroll
Throw a penny from the window, watch an old man play a song
On a twenty-dollar violin he bought before the war,
Though he screeches and he scratches and the notes are always wrong,
But he plays like he's in concert on the street outside my door.
Tunes to suit your fancy,
Are there any requests?
I'll play them for a penny,
(Play them penny music, play them for a penny)
And not a penny less.
He's the local virtuoso, it's his only way of life,
Plays ninety-seven overtures and goes home to his wife,
In the quiet of the evening while his frozen fingers bleed,
He counts pennies on a blanket to supply his meager need.
Tunes to suit your fancy,
Are there any requests?
I'll play them for a penny,
(Play them penny music, play them for a penny)
And not a penny less.
When there's frost upon the pumpkin in the weakness of the sun,
People stand there in the cold until his symphony is done,
In the early gray of morning, he's sure to come around,
You can hear him through the window when the pennies hit the ground.
Tunes to suit your fancy,
Are there any requests?
I'll play them for a penny,
(Play them penny music, play them for a penny)
And not a penny less.
They're playing penny music,
Playing penny music,
They're playing penny music,
Playing penny music,
Playing penny music.
fade out...

My Next Thirty Years

(track 12 - time 3:37)
(phil vassar)
I think Ill take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page
Now its time to focus in on where I go from here
Lord have mercy on my next thirty years
Hey my next thirty years Im gonna have some fun
Try to forget about all the crazy things Ive done
Maybe now Ive conquered all my adolescent fears
And Ill do it better in my next thirty years
My next thirty years Im gonna settle all the scores
Cry a little less, laugh a little more
Find a world of happiness without the hate and fear
Figure out just what Im doing here
In my next thirty years
Oh my next thirty years, Im gonna watch my weight
Eat a few more salads and not stay up so late
Drink a little lemonade and not so many beers
Maybe Ill remember my next thirty years
My next thirty years will be the best years of my life
Raise a little family and hang out with my wife
Spend precious moments with the ones that I hold dear
Make up for lost time here, in my next thirty years
In my next thirty years

The Band Has Just Begun

(myles goodwyn/jim clench)
Published by summerlea music, ltd. - bmi
Come talk to the band, and well tell you our plan
Weve got alot to say
That weve worked for awhile, to develop a style
On tunes for you to play
Well sing you a tune, well scream and well croon
Some rock n roll for you
And well give you a rush, with a look and a touch
Well rock the whole night through
So we never have to worry, and well never have to run
Our chance to have a partys just begun, oh yeah, oh boy
The band has just begun
You can sing, you can dance, we can all take a chance
Come on, lets have some fun
Try if you will, to remember the thrill
That the band has just begun
And now youll never have to worry, youll never have to run
The chance to have a partys just begun, oh yeah, oh boy
The band has just begun, oh yeah
Come talk to the band, and well tell you our plan

In Front Of Me

It's hard to breathe, from underneath
Smothering in all your heat
It's hard to take, It's tough to break
So I don't make the same mistakes
The same mistake, (4x)
Out in the yard is where I play,
Don't come in cause I'm afraid
You saw my face, I faced my friends
Do I tell or just pretend?
I found a friend, a friend who knows
Who says he'll help but then he goes
And then he goes (4x)
In front of me, In front of me, so far from me, yeah, yeah
I'm in the way, the way it goes, so go away, yeah, yeah
In front of me, In front of me, so far from me, yeah, yeah
Fingernails, filled with dirt
If you don't tell, you don't get hurt
I cry for help, I pray to God
Another tear he tries to rob
To rob me of, my dignity
Cause sanctuary's far from me
Far from me (4x)
In front of me, In front of me, so far from me, yeah, yeah
I'm in the way, the way it goes, so go away, yeah, yeah
It's hard to take, a piece of me, so peacefully, yeah, yeah
In front of me, In front of me, so far from me, yeah, yeah
So broke inside, don't run away
And find another place to stay
And make our inhibition go away
Because I'm so afraid, yeah, yeah
It's hard to breathe, from underneath
Smothering in all your heat
It's hard to take, It's tough to break
So I don't make the same mistakes
In front of me, In front of me, so far from me, yeah, yeah
I'm in the way, the way it goes, so go away, yeah, yeah

Rubber Band

Rubber band
Theres a rubber band that plays tunes out of tune
In the library garden sunday afternoon
While a little chappie waves a golden wand
Rubber band
In 1910 I was so handsome and so strong
My moustache was stiffly waxed and one foot long
And I loved a girl while you played teatime tunes
Dear rubber band, youre playing my tune out of tune
Oh
Rubber band
Wont you play a haunting theme again to me
While I eat my scones and drink my cup of tea
The sun is warm but its a lonely afternoon
Oh, play that theme
Rubber band
How I wish that I could join your rubber band
We could play in lively parks throughout the land
And one sunday afternoon, Id find my love
Rubber band,
In the 14-18 war I went to sea
Thought my sunday love was waiting home for me
And now shes married to the leader of the band, oh
Oh yeah... I hope you break your baton

Can We Get Together Again

Written by chuck jackson and marvin yancy
I really enjoyed ya, yes, I did
We got to get together and do it all again some time
Though its been quite a while since weve been together
I cant get you right off my mind
So Im simply asking you, baby, can we get together
Oh gee, can we get together again
I wanna know, when can we get together
Some day (some day), some way (some way)
Youre a miracle boy, thats what you are (hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo)
Youre that part of me that I been missing (hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo)
Before you came along I was alive, thats true
But I was just barely, barely attempting, yeah
Can we get together, baby, baby
Please can we get together again
Oh, when can we get together
Some day, (some day) some way (some way)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
You brought so much sunshine, yeah
Into this empty life of mine
Im pray the day will call when we get together again
Stop me from easing and blocking and squeezing
Stop me from pushing, and loving, and pushing
Come on, (can we get together) yeah yeah
(baby, baby, please) yeah, yeah, yeah
(can we get together again)
You know that you and me should be together
(when can we get together) oh
Yeah, yeah, together, baby, (some day)
Baby, baby you and me (some way)
You and me better (can we) get together (get together)
(baby, baby, please can we)
We better get together (get together again), oh, yeah
Lets get together, (when can we) oh, yeah, (get together)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, (some day)
Yeah, yeah, yeah (some way)
(can we) oh, (get together) lets get together
Baby, (baby, baby, please can we) you and me should be
(get together again)
Together, baby, baby, you and me
(when can we get together) should be
Together, baby, baby, we should really
(some day) really be together
Baby, (some way) oh, oh
(can we) yeah, yeah, yeah, (get together)
Yeah, yeah, (baby, baby, please)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, (can we) yeah
Ooh, (get together again) real soon, you
(when can we get together) you
Come home to me soon, (some day)
Real soon, real soon (some way)

Play For Me My Beloved Guitar

Play for me my beloved guitar
A Love Song for my Dearest whose heart is filled with hurt;
With your strings of gold
Pluck out all her troubles from old

Play for me my beloved guitar
A Ballad for my Son whose life is full of uncertainties;
With your tunes so mellow
To a straight path let him follow

Play for me my beloved guitar
A Lullaby for my Daughter whose life is full of struggles;
With your sound so sweet
Into life's hurdles let her succeed

Play for me my beloved guitar
A Sonnet for my Brothers whose lives seem to be so hard;
With your timbre so soft
Into difficulties let them keep up

Play for me my beloved guitar
A Gospel for the World full of hatred and war;
With your resonance so pleasant
Chaos and crimes be gone

Play for me my beloved guitar
An Ode for My Soul full of burdens of the above;
With your lovely tunes and my dexterous fingers
Healing, inspiring, uplifting, motivating and peaceful songs, we will play together.

Tweety Birds

Two tweety birds,
Hangout on a branch.
Two tweety birds,
Waiting for their lunch.

Their time is spent
Tweeting, preening in a bunch.
A ritual, a noise event.
Birds gather not in a 'bunch',

They stay together in a 'flock'.
I wrote 'bunch'
to rhyme with lunch.
So there, you have it in a block!

Birds of a feather flock together,
Sing melodious tunes
Birds of a feather in any weather,
Tweet in timely tunes.

Travails Of Survival

his skin exudes
the native perfumes
his heart is filled with
native tunes
from village to
town to metro
did he migrate
always drawing the
scents and tunes
for his sustenance
stranger he is in the metro
breathes his lungful once
amidst the familiar environs
moving under the known skyscape
a nowhere man in the metro
he is himself back at the village

survival calls him
survival displaces him
this nowhere man is
found everywhere
he goes about spraying
the native perfumes
he moves about
his heart humming the tunes...

Same Old Tunes

I sat at my piano tinkering with the keys
and the same old tunes came back to me.
Melodies I had written long ago
that seem to haunt my soul.
It was the rhythm of my life
as the scales moved up and down.
After years of writing ever-haunting melodies
like my life, they drifted away from me.
The comparisons were striking
with the events of life’s ups and downs
and for a few minutes,
I found myself trying to capture
what once had been.
There were no lyrics in my head
to fit to a happy tune.
Only the black and white keys
that lay beneath my fingertips,
playing out the same old tunes
I had written in life and song
all those distant years ago.

I Don't Believe 'You' Wrote This!

I am told I have a way with words.
I am encouraged when I hear that said.
I remember listening to my father talk.
And when he would sing...
He would bring a different meaning,
To each word I heard.
And what his singing to them he would bring.

My mother would play the piano.
Thunderous and loud!
And when I walked through the projects...
I would sing to the trees,
I once walked into one...
Humming to the clouds.

I would make up melodies and tunes with words.
Mocking my dad and my mother's love,
For gospel verse she would rehearse.

I didn't think anything really about words I wrote.
Until my sister read a poem of mine.
And I wanted to choke her by the throat!
YES!
She was the first to read something I wrote out loud.
I was embarrassed by that.
Her nosy grown up butt...
Reading my 'stuff' behind my back!

And then she said to me,
'I don't believe 'you' wrote this! '
I must have been 13 years old...
When I started to make my writing public.

I am told I have a way with words.
I am encouraged when I hear that said.
I remember listening to my father talk.
And when he would sing...
He would bring a different meaning,
To each word I heard.
And what his singing to them he would bring.

Each 'thing' I write now...
Is added to a mixed bag offering!
And reflecting how I'm feeling at the time.
I am grateful for this blessing.
It offers a comfort and a peace of mind!
And when someone says they enjoy what I do...
I must be honest with 'you', the reader!
I-do-too!
