On the one hand, shopping is dependable: You can do it alone, if you lose your heart to something that is wrong for you, you can return it; it's instant gratification and yet something you buy may well last for years.

Just Follow That Yellow Brick Road
Instant gratification?
I'm sorry I don't have it here for you,
Like that.
And there is nothing on my path that says I should.
Have you been modified to accept rejection?
I hope so.
I would hate to be the one to break your heart,
With a pinch of reality and a dash of a thought process.
The instant gratification you might be seeking...
May be found at another address.
Just follow that yellow brick road.

Shopping
Were buying and selling your history
How we go about it is no mystery
We check it with the city, then change the law
Are you looking forward?
Now you want some more
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Its easy when you got all the information
Inside help, no investigation
(no investigation, investigation)
No questions in the house, no give and take
Theres a big bang in the city
Were all on the make
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Our gain is your loss, thats the price you pay
I heard it in the house of commons: everythings for sale
Were shopping
Were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah
Ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
Were s-h-o-pp-i-n-g, were shopping
(were shopping

Instant Mash
In the supermarket there is music while you work
It drives you crazy, sends you screaming for the door
Work there for a year or two and you can't get to like it
I don't work in supermarkets anymore
It's so easy, it's so easy
Grab can, lift arm, stack can, turn around
It's so easy, it's so easy
Do the instant mash, do the instant mash
Do the instant mash, make an instant smash
Doin' the instant mash
In the discorama there's a dj tries to charm ya
They got flashin' lights to dance to if you're shy
Red for treble, green for bass, they're wired in sequence round the place
You wait till ten, then try take off your tie
It's so easy, it's so easy
Lift hand, flick wrist, drop hand, turn around
It's so easy, it's so easy
Do the instant mash, do the instant mash
Do the instant mash, make some instant cash
Doin' the instant mash
In the cinema tonight they sit and watch the robots fight
The human beings don't have much to say
Robots making lots of cash and all they eat is instant mash
Oh wouldn't you just love to be that way?
It's so easy, it's so easy
Heat it, beat it, eat it, turn around
It's so easy, it's so easy
Do the instant mash, do the instant mash
Do the instant mash, make an instant smash
Doin' the instant mash

As we get past our superficial material wants and instant gratification we connect to a deeper part of ourselves, as well as to others, and the universe.

Those Most Dependable
Those most dependable,
Are not the ones we show...
A giving of respect.
They're often people we neglect.
Those most dependable,
Are not the ones we show...
A giving of respect.
They're often people we neglect.
We take for granted when we panic,
Those who'll fix our needs.
And when they've finished doing that,
We don't show them we're pleased.
Those most dependable,
Are not the ones we show...
A giving of respect.
They're often people we neglect.
And on them we're dependent,
But we choose them to offend.
We think of them to think of us,
When daylight comes until it ends.
Those most dependable,
Are not the ones we show...
A giving of respect.
They're often people we neglect.
We take for granted when we panic,
Those who'll fix our needs.
And when they've finished doing that,
We don't show them we're pleased.
The most dependable...
Are often people we neglect.
The most dependable...
Are often people we neglect.
The most dependable...
Are often those we disrespect.

The public is usually slow to catch on to new things, and it's important that musicians stick to their guns and not look for that instant gratification.
I'm good friends with The Rock, and I talk to him all the time. And he says that, even though his movie career has taken off, he misses the instant gratification of wrestling, and the live crowds, and I could see being that way myself.

When Your Money (Is Worthless)
what are you going to do,
when your money is worthless?
when it wont buy anything?
not a loaf of bread,
not a jug of water...
not even a gallon of gas!
when you're left alone
in the dark, with no one
to count on by yourself,
with no friends,
no instant gratification...
what are you going to do?

Still Cruisin
Come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
So come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
So come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
So come on
Hey baby come on
Come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
So come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
Baby come on
Now get yourself in gear
Oh baby come on
Still cruisin after all of these years
Hey girl lets go for a spin
Hop in my hot rod and do it again
Youve got a greenhouse effect on me
I know a secret spot
Paradise by the sea
Well find a place to park
Thats kinda cool after dark
Well take a trip on up to the lake
Down by the river
Where we can make out
On the island
Wake up on the cape
Punch up yor favorite staion
Toss in your favorite tape
When we go cruisin
Well everything is all right
Come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
Baby when we go cruisin now
Baby put your top down
Parade around down town
People trying to cool down
Party all summer long
Come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
So come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
Baby come on
Now get yourself in gear
Baby baby come on
Still cruisin after all of these years
Everybody got a favorite spot
Where they like to come a lot
When we go cruisin well everything is all right
Come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
Baby when we go crusin now
People dancin in the sand
Rockin to a reggae band
Lovers walkin hand in hand
Party all summer long
Come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
So come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
Baby come on
Now get yourself in gear
Baby baby come on
Still cruisin after all of these years
Come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
So come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
Baby come on
Now get yourself in gear
Baby baby come on
Still cruisin after all of these years
Come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
So come on lets cruise ya got nothin to lose
Baby come on
Now get yourself in gear
Baby baby come on
Still cruisin after all of these years

The Best Of Me
The best of me
So many years gone
Still I remember
How die I ever let my heart
Believe in one whos never giving love to me
So many years gone
Love that was so wrong
I cant forget the way it used to be
And how you change the taste of love for me
Youre my one more chance
I never thought Id find
Youre the one romance
Ive always known in my mind
No one will ever touch me more
I only hope that in return
I might have saved
The best of me for you
And will have no ending
If we can hold on
I think Ive gone this far because of you
Could be no other lovers will do
No one will ever touch me more
I only hope that in return
No matter how much we have to learn
I save the best of me for you

The Best Of Me
So many years gone
Still I remember
How did I ever let my heart believe
In one who never gave enough to me
And so many years gone
And love that was so wrong
I cant forget the way it used to be
And how youve changed the test of love for me
Chorus
You were my one more chance
I never thought Id find
You were the one romance
Ive always had in my mind
No one will ever touch me more
And I only hope that in return
I might of saved the best of me for you
And well have no ending, no, no
If we can hold on
And I think Ive come this far because of you
Could be no other love but ours will do
Repeat chorus
No one will ever touch me more
I only hope that in return
No matter how much we have to learn
I saved the best of me for you

Betrayed
Picking over bones
Of things that have been gone,
Too long we keep this going on!
Sucker punching from the left..
Catching someone out of breath
Momentum kept like this is much too wrong!
Betrayal shot in veins
Of those who are not sane
They keep their brains with venom flowing!
With sharpened fangs they creep
Upon them who are weak
To keep them victimized unknowing...
They are dispensable!
Quite dependable...
To be used!
And betrayed!
Stalking with a sad intent
To have some think they should repent
For living lives not spent in tears or sorrow.
Pushing fear and agony
To have the masses to agree
No one really can be free tomorrow...
If we are dispensable.
Why not be dependable...
To be used!
And betrayed!
It would be commendable...
To be taxed,
And betrayed!

Sibling
As I step out
Of the shop
Three carry bags
In either hand
I cannot but
Think of you
Three years elder
Now light years away...
Our shopping done
You used to say in jest then
Looking in either direction
Loud enough
For every one to hear
'Where's the driver?
He's never here
When you want him! '
I was helpless with laughter
As we did not have a car...
As I trudge to the bus-stop
I wonder if you have one now.

Heart To Heart
(Emmylouy HarrisPaul Kennerley)
Heart to heart we'll hold together
Hand in hand we'll find a way
Oh, the storms of life may blind us
But with the loving vows that bind us
Heart to heart hand in hand we'll stay
Side by side forever and always
Day by day till our lives are done
This sweet love is ours to treasure
Far beyond all time and measure
Side by side day by day as one
The years connot take what's between you and me
We'll stand her together for the whole world to see
Heart to heart there'll be no other
Hand in hand for our love is true
Oh, the words that we have spoken
Will be a promise never broken
Heart to heart hand in hand with you

Janey, Dont You Lose Heart
You got your book baby with all your fears
Let me honey and Ill catch your tears
Ill take your sorrow if you want me to
Come tomorrow
Thats what Ill do
Listen to me
Janey dont you lose heart
Janey dont you lose heart
Janey dont you lose heart
Janey dont you lose heart
Well you say you got no new dreams to touch
You feel like a stranger babe who knows too much
You come home late and get undressed
You lie in bed and feel this emptiness
Well listen to me
Janey dont you lose heart
Janey dont you lose heart
Janey dont you lose heart
Janey dont you lose heart
Till every river it runs dry
Until the suns torn from the sky
Till every feel youve felt burst free
Gone tumblin down into the sea
Listen to me
Janey dont you lose heart
Janey dont you lose heart
Janey dont you lose heart
Janey dont you lose heart

Shopping for Yesterday
Busy crowds, lonely hearts, broken dreams
Shopping for yesterday.
Visiting the shared moments,
In all the familiar places
When shopping for yesterday.
We are all prisoners of the past
When shopping for yesterday
Knee deep in our loneliness
Surrounded by the crowd
We’re shopping for yesterday.
Pictures and memories
Half-forgotten words
Time slipping away
From the windmills of my mind
When shopping for yesterday.

No Name #6
You've got the wrong equation
Your figures fell so you make more up
All's false in celebration
If only you could just change your luck
This time we can't lose
This time we can't lose
You're pushing nine you're doing pretty
But you're playing with the sound turned down
We drive along between the cows and cotton
Saying with the stars all around
This time we can't lose
This time we can't lose
The moon is in a sickle shape
You know you're only really happy just for now
Looked at the city scape
Well there's a planet that'll catch you and drag you back down
This time we can't lose
This time we can't lose
This time we can't lose
This time we can't lose
Can't lose
Can't lose
