I would have tested the furniture if they'd asked me.

At a Boston signing, someone from the audience asked why I was so obsessed with furniture in my books. The question rattled around in my head. I had no idea that I was obsessed with furniture.

Faith Proves
Faith proves complex when tested
Sweet when manifested
Faith fills needs to break through
Tested it seemly sinks to depths blue
Faith is a glowing light in a dark tunnel
Faith tested is a dead ending channel
Faith is a destined escape
Faith tested loses all form and shape
Faith is the cry to all battles
Yet tested falls about in loose shambles
Faith is wholesome and complete
Yet tested it feels so much like defeat
Faith moves mountains
Faith tested seems like bondage constrains
Faith is a well planted seed
Yet tested the feeling is hopeless indeed

Change
The other day I walked accross the street
i couldnt believe what I appeared to see...
as I looked at a poor boy who came to me
I asked him his name and he didnt know
he just asked me for change.
I asked where is your mum?
he just asked me for change
I asked where is your dad?
he just asked me for change
I asked will someone come?
he just asked me for change
I asked why are you sad?
with no response to my question there was a pause...
but then once again he asked me for change
see, as i watched him dissapear with his pain
I realised that he actualy asked me...
for a change.

One for Ramana
The thunder asked
what is lightning?
The root asked
why is a flower?
The pupil asked
who is the teacher?
The space asked
where is everyone?
The circle asked
when is the end?
The stillness asked
whence word?

Experience Is God
I asked, ‘What comes with birth? '
Born and see, God ordered!
I asked, ‘What is said to be education? '
Study and see God ordered!
I asked, ‘What is knowledge? '
Know and see God ordered!
I asked, ‘What is kindness? '
Be kind and shower, God ordered!
I asked, ‘What is love? '
Share with others, God ordered!
I asked, ‘What pleasure do you get from wife? '
Marry and experience, God ordered!
I asked, ‘Who is child to you? '
Get a child for you, God ordered!
I asked, ‘What is old age? '
Become old and observe God ordered!
I asked, ‘What is poverty? '
Toil and see God ordered!
I asked, ‘What happens after death? '
Die and see God ordered!
If anyone wants to know what is life,
And he has to experience and know,
Then why are you, GOD?
GOD said, ‘O' poor man,
The experience itself is ME!

Tests of Faith
Your God is one of them who likes to be called One,
Afterwards He proclaims that you were tested on it.
I explore the success of the day and find faith in God,
As much as the seeds and spores are still alive.
You would like being tested in a room with others,
An exam is preferred and not you with that fate
Is the Hell or Heaven from it.
Why?
It is simple my friend: your test is One!

The other day they asked me about mandatory drug testing. I said I believed in drug testing a long time ago. All through the sixties I tested everything.
Tested
Simplicity is what we need
And I know it in my heart
So many choices make us think we need
What we havent got
Ive been blessed by you
Ive been tested by an angel
Ive been blessed by you
And I know and I believe
Theres a way out to the sea of happiness
And if I knew what buddha taught
Would my wings unfold?
And if I had all that I want
Could I let it go?
Ive been blessed by you
Ive been tested by an angel
Ive been blessed by you
And I know and I believe
Theres a way out to the sea of happiness
Sometimes I feel like Im learning to crawl
Like Im still learning how to love
And sometimes I feel like Im losing it all
But I know there must be some way
We can rise above
Ive been blessed by you
Ive been tested by an angel
Ive been blessed by you
And I know and I believe
Theres a way out to the sea of happiness
And I know and I believe, and I know and i
Believe...

Cobwebs Of Dreams
The cobwebs of Dreams
It was a clear day…too clear I thought. Mother sat in the kitchen
and sunlight made her white hair into a halo. I asked her who
old she was. Ninety two, she said, knew I was trapped in a dream
as she didn’t live that long. By the slow river I saw furniture drift
along. Brother said that people who lived downstream went
upstream to buy furniture, to save on transport cost they dumped
the stuff into the river where relatives, downstream, picked it up.
Sometimes they lost a table or a commode but that’s a risk one
has to take. I knew this too was a dream, Walked along a soft road,
in a forest, but something was wrong there was a strange red light
emitting from the trees, now I was trapped inside a painting by
a mad Russian artist; luckily I had a flick knife. It is morning, that is
I think it is, sometimes the line between reality and the subconscious
merges, perhaps yesterday is today

The Leaking Roof....
there is no use
repairing the leak of the roof
of this
house
it is raining
let it rain
let the water wet this floor
and the furniture
let us wait when will this dark night
end
when this heavy rain shall stop
on the same leak
we shall see the light that falls
on those wet floors
and furniture
it will show us the truth
and shall guide us
what to do next

I Told Myself
I told myself
You do love me
Is it really true?
She asked me
I told myself
You care for me
Are you really sure?
She asked me
I told myself
You do miss me
As often as you?
She asked me
I told myself
You need me too
Are you guessing?
She asked me
I told myself
You never tell me
Why on Earth?
She asked me
I told myself
You hide a lot…
Is that friendship?
She asked me
I told myself
You think too much
Does he not feel?
She asked me
Tell me, my love
What shall I say?
To all those queries
That she asked me...
How should I answer?
What should I ponder?
Tell me the truth
For she still asks me...
You For Me
And Me For You
Is it the Future?
One last Question
She did ask me.
I don’t have the answers
Yet she keeps asking me…
May be, she knows,
One day, one moment
You’ll let her know
How you feel for me...

Have You Ever
Everywhere you go there is old furniture,
but have you ever spared a thought
whose bottom might have sat on
the chair you are sitting on.
Have you ever asked yourself
who has looked into the mirror
you are looking into now?
It could have been a famous actor, a famous singer,
or a notable writer or royalty maybe.
Have you ever thought what if
their attributes rubbed off on you,
what would you do
and what would thee consequences be.

Inside and Back Out
A forest encircles the lawn,
the lawn encircles sheets of English ivy,
the ivy encircles the walls of a house,
the house encircles its furnishings,
the furniture encircles a family
the family sits on the furniture,
the furniture completes the house,
the house is cuddled by walls,
the walls are warmed by English ivy,
the ivy loathes the horizontal lawn,
the lawn pines to be a forest.

This And That
I ASKED FOR BREAD!
A STONE THEY GAVE ME!
I ASKED FOR WATER!
A CUP OF VENOM THEY GAVE ME!
I ASKED FOR MEAT!
LO! VEGETABLES THEY GAVE ME!
I ASKED FOR CLOTHES!
AND THEY GAVE ME RAGS!
I ASKED FOR WEALTH!
AND THEY GAVE ME POVERTY!
I ASKED FOR PEACE!
AND THEY GAVE ME TROUBLES!
I ASKED FOR LOVE!
AND THEY GAVE ME WICKEDNESS!
TEMPT NOT THIS LORD!
ASK ME NOT FOR HELP!
FOR I SHALL GIVE TO YOU AS YOU GAVE TO ME!
TEMPT ME NOT I SAY!
ASK ME NOT FOR THIS!
FOR I SHALL GIVE YOU THAT!

Answers
There are lots of questions
some good, none bad.
Time, overwhelmed,
and finally a little bored with so many questions,
answers all the same
not maliciously but frankly
because Time has found
the answer unvarying, always the same.
Time, the adjudicator
whose eyes are green stones, by the way, nods and gently says
'yes, Joy is real, but temporary;
entirely valid, it's case.
Go for it, go for it, whatever-
at all and every stage
All and every....stage', Time intones,
Then turning meditative
and almost forgetting the question,
'just do no harm.
But don't expect it to last-
that's fool's work;
and leave the furniture alone!
the careful configuration of furniture
cannot insure happiness. Much.
Happiness comes from acceptance
of the furniture as it is. Largely.
Everyone is good at something'.
Then Time, exhausted and sickened
by so much sanctimony, sinks back, sits up, adding,
a bit sadly, 'Remember, in the end
the answer is always the same'.
