It took us two years to get our first real gig. That was a big dream. We ended up booking a lot of our own gigs and putting on a lot of our own shows. We were trying to get our actual music across, trying to make a connection there.

Heavy Connection
In the land of a thousand dances
I dance with you
I was out I was taking my chances
When dreams came true
When you came into my dream
Like from a whisper to a scream
And its a real heavy connection
Its just a real heavy connection
Its a real heavy connection
Lalalala......
I remember when I got your message in amsterdam
I was going through my letters
And found a picture-postcard of the reeperbahn
When you came into the room
Not too late and not too soon
And its a real heavy connection
And its a real heavy connection
And its a real heavy connection
Lalalala......
And you came into my dreams
From a whisper to a scream
And its a real heavy connection
And its a real heavy connection
Its just a real heavy connection
Lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala
And its a real heavy connection
And its a real heavy connection
And its a real heavy connection
Lalalala.....
Baby, baby, baby
I cant stop this rainbow
Touching my soul
I cant stop this rainbow
In my soul
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby
Baby, baby, baby

Make That Connection
Oh what would I do
Oh what would I do babe
Honey I have this feeling
Its never ever ever explained
Yeah Im afraid a part of my heart
Would always feel misunderstood babe
I would never know honey
I never meant to drive you away
Whats wrong?
I want to make that connection, that connection to you
I want to make that connection, that connection to you
What would I give if I could have you now
Baby what would I give to see your smiling face again
You know theres nothing I would not do
No river I would not swim, no mountain I would not climb baby
If I could have you right here once again
I want to make that connection, that connection to you
I want to make that connection, that connection to you
Tell me baby is it something I might have said?
Is it something I might have done wrong to change your mind?
Tell me baby is it something Ive have said?
Is it something I couldve done?
Honey somehow let me right all your wrongs
I want to make that connection, that connection to you
I want to make that connection, that connection to you
Oh what would I give if you would tell me just one thing
Honey what would I give if you would stroke my hand with your brow
Or whisper sweet things into my ear I would smile like a baby
I would be happy like a child if I could have you right here, right here, right here
Right here with me now
I want to make that connection, that connection to you
I want to make that connection, yes I do
I want to make that connection, that connection to you
I want to make that connection, whats wrong?
I want to make that connection, that connection to you

Connection
All I want to do is get back to you
Connection, I just cant make no connection
But all I want to do is to get back to you
Everything is going in the wrong direction
The doctor wants to give me more injections
Giving me shots for a thousand rare infections
And I dont know if hell let me go
Connection, I just cant make no connection
But all I want to do is to get back to you
My bags they get a very close inspection
I wonder why it is that they suspect em
Theyre dying to add me to their collection
I dont know if theyll let me go
Connection, I just cant make no connection
But all I want to do is to get back to you

Mr. Me
Once a boy named mister me bemoaned a great regret
I've floundered in the misty sea, but can't abide its mystery
I wound up sad, you bet
So onward go and edward ho into the bounding main
Enjoy the show look out below but mind the misty sea
Or end up sad like mister me
He ended up sad
He ended up sad
He ended up really, really, really sad
He ended up sad
He ended up sad
He ended up really, really, really sad
So take the hand of mister me and mister, make him glad
To swim the mister misty sea and cease the mister mystery
That mister, made him sad
He ended up sad
He ended up sad
He ended up really, really, really sad
He ended up sad
He ended up sad
He ended up really, really, really sad
He ended up sad
He ended up sad
He ended up really, really, really sad
He ended up sad
He ended up sad
He ended up really, really, really sad

Your Summer Dream
Drive your car down to the sea
All the while you build a scheme
Take her hand and walk on with her
Make it real your summer dream
Smell the warm and salty air
See a wave reflect a beam
Stop and find a pretty shell for her
Make it real your summer dream
See another couple over there
To them an ordinary day
Soon you wonder the time has gone
The sun has almost slipped away
Now it's gone and your alone
In her eyes you see a gleam
Time has come for you to show your love
Make it real your summer dream
Make it real your summer dream
Make it real your summer dream

The real reason we ended up getting into that type of music was our dad worked for an oil company so we spent a year overseas when we were young kids. Because of that, it was all Spanish TV and radio so we ended up having these '50s and '60s tapes, tapes of that music.

L.a. Connection
Oh, carry home my broken bones and lay me down to rest
Forty days of cries and moans i guess i've failed to pass the test
I've been sent away not a thing to say
I'm banished from the fold
I'm a fallen angel who's lost his wings and left out in the cold
Ooooh l.a. connection
Oh l.a. connection
L.a. connection, yeah
Operator place a call keep secret but it through
Investigator knows it all he's at the window i wonder who
I've got to cut the line and let me drift find a haven in the storm
I got no time i need a lift to where it's sweet and close and warm
I say
Ooooh l.a. connection
Oh l.a. connection
L.a. connection
Hey, carry home my broken bones and lay me down to rest
Forty days of cries and moans well i've just failed the test
Feel i'm balanced on the brim should i lean another way
Like a flame that's going on the dim needs blessing from the day, oh
Ooooh l.a. connection, l.a. connection
Oh take me away i got nothing to say
It's got to be an l.a. connection, oh
Ooooh l.a. connection, l.a. connection
Ooooh, l.a., l.a., l.a., l.a., l.a. connection
Connection, oh
Ooooh l.a. connection, l.a. connection
Oh l.a., oh, l.a. connection
L.a., l.a. inspection
Ooooh l.a. connection, l.a. connection
Oh i'm down, oh i'm down
I can't take a rejection
L.a., need an l.a. connection
L.a., yeah, oh l.a. connection
L.a. connection
I'm flying away
Take me back home, i gotta get home to l.a.
L.a., l.a. connection, l.a.
Oh, l.a. connection, l.a. connection
Ooooh, ooooh, l.a. connection, l.a.

My dad took me to all the best rock and punk shows when I was growing up and music has always been a part of my life. So I'm very interested in the music scene and I suppose that's why I've ended up going out with musicians. Dave Pirner is still one of my best friends.

Margaret On The Guillotine
The kind people
Have a wonderful dream
Margaret on the guillotine
Cause people like you
Make me feel so tired
When will you die ?
When will you die ?
When will you die ?
When will you die ?
When will you die ?
And people like you
Make me feel so old inside
Please die
And kind people
Do not shelter this dream
Make it real
Make the dream real
Make the dream real
Make it real
Make the dream real
Make it real

Just the actual physics of putting it all together, you know, the latter period is actually quite fragmented in terms of the licenses and all those things so it makes a compilation of the full twenty years really a technical minefield.

A Dream Of France
All over France
There was a dream,
It started, like all dreams
From one man.
Then the dream spread
Like a virus,
Until everyone had the dream
And everyone knew the dream.
Soon, the man who first had the dream
Was pushed aside, was shot
By the ones who picked up the dream
To make money from it.
People who did not share the dream,
People who dared to have other dreams...
Well, they were just dirt,
And men and women were killed
And children were re-educated
To worship the dream.
And the dream became a nightmare
But the dream-holders
(Who had abused the dream
Who had added bits onto the dream
Concerning those who did not dream...)
They would not let the dream die.
So it would have ended that way
If somewhere, a new dream had not been dreamed,
Dreamt by one man
For the whole of France.

My dream, My life
Have you ever had a dream?
That’s makes your heart race and your face beam!
A dream to write, a dream to rhyme,
A dream that you know will be real in time.
A dream you know that’s destined for you,
And just to make it real there’s nothing you won’t do.
A writer of stories, a mother, a wife,
That is my dream that will be my life.

Being Unreal
Imagination is not real.
Romance is not actual.
Make up conceals realness.
Being real will be boring.

A Dream, a Dream
A dream, A dream,
another dream.
A dream of you,
A dream of love,
A dream of you and me,
we had such chemistry,
If only you could see.
A dream we danced in the moonlight,
A dream we made love til the mornings bright light,
A dream, A dream,
Where my true feeling burst,
A dream, A dream
Makes me feel more hurt.
A dream, A dream,
of true love,
over and over,
over and over,
A dream, A dream
where we are together,
A dream, A dream,
why can't it be real,
A dream, A dream,
where really connect,
A dream, A dream
that I can't reject,
A dream, A dream,
and another dream,
Why can't it be real?
Why can't you love me?

So it was out of necessity that Blackheart was born. I think it's great that now, 25 years later, we're not only putting out our own music, but are able to put out music by other bands. That's really exciting for us.
People from major labels were afraid to go to Black Flag gigs throughout most of the band's existence. They treated our gigs as something threatening. I'm sure that it probably was. They probably had reasons to be scared.
For a long time, my shows were about people walking out or about getting my gigs canceled or having the presenter not wanting to pay me.

I dream my own dream
When I dream of love,
I dream about you..
When I dream about happiness,
I dream about my families..
When I dream of pain,
I dream about all the sadness inside me..
When I dream of horror,
I dream about the nightmare that would
wake me up in the middle of night..
When I dream about the death,
I dream myself crying in sleep..
When I dream a dream,
I dream all those thing
that are real and not real..
I dream about all the thing
that are in my mind,
I dream about all the thing
that I desire for..
I dream my own dream..
