Faced by the mountainous heap of the minutiae of knowledge and awed by the watchful severity of his colleagues, the modern historian too often takes refuge in learned articles or narrowly specialized dissertations, small fortresses that are easy to defend from attack.

Knowledge of the self is the mother of all knowledge. So it is incumbent on me to know my self, to know it completely, to know its minutiae, its characteristics, its subtleties, and its very atoms.

Morning Refuge Prayer
i take refuge in the Buddha
who shows us the path.
i take refuge in the Dharma
that teaches us to walk in compassion.
i take refuge in the Sangha
the family of living beings working together for peace.
i take refuge in Jesus
in the way that He lived and died.
in the Kingdom of Heaven within us
that heals the sick and feeds the hungry.
i take refuge in the Tao
in the uncarved block.
in water flowing over rocks
finding its own way.
i take refuge in the Great Spirit
in the embrace of Mother Earth.
i take refuge in the wind and rain
in the thunder and lightning,
in the stillness of night.
i take refuge in the howl of the wolf,
in the eyes of small children.
in the truth that breaks down the wall
between living and existing, between sorrow and joy.

Modern Dancing
Modern, modern, modern, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern
I see you acting modernly with the boys and girls
Exposure breeds discovery in the modern world
The 60's hairdos 90's eyes are just flashing lights
A touch of neon hinting class for the modern night
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern
Mono vision tv face and determined eyes
The clothes are perfect the rips in place just the perfect size
Familiarity breeds contempt but it doesn't show
We've heard the music times before but it still makes you go
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, modern dancing
Modern dancing, dancing

Taught To Hate
How many valued relationships,
Have been destroyed...
By those professing to be innocent,
As they depict themselves as victims.
How many are quick to listen,
To those who lie?
Unknowing the ones who do this...
Are seeking more attention yet deceive.
How many are easily duped,
To awaken to learn they have been fools?
And how many discover it is too late,
To appreciate the ones they have been taught to hate.
And...
How many of those who have been hated,
Have turned their backs...
On those who now each other attack?
And...
How many who attack each other like that,
Wish those they should have appreciated...
Returned to defend their backs.
And...
How many who have ever been backstabbed,
Feel honored they have been asked to defend...
Those who had betrayed them.

Modern Girl
Shes a modern girl
Out to rule the world
And nothing can stop her now
She knows what she wants
And shes out to get it
Shes a modern girl
Life is hard in a midlands town
For a girl with her head in the clouds
Everybody puts her down
Shes just one of the crowd
She finds it aint easy
To stand on her own two feet
It aint easy
She knows this time she wont be beat
Shes a modern girl
Out to rule the world
And nothing can stop her now
She knows what she wants
And shes out to get it
Shes a modern girl
Now its time for her to find
The way its always been
Love is just a word to her
Another broken dream
She finds it aint easy
To stand on her own two feet
It aint easy
She knows this time she wont be beat
Shes a modern girl
Out to rule the world
And nothing can stop her now
She knows what she wants
And shes out to get it
Shes a modern girl
[instrumental]
She finds it aint easy
To stand on her own two feet
It aint easy
She knows this time she wont be beat
Shes a modern girl
Out to rule the world
And nothing can stop her now
She knows what she wants
And shes out to get it
Shes a modern girl
Shes a modern girl
Out to rule the world
And nothing can stop her now
She knows what she wants
And shes out to get it
Shes a modern girl
Shes a modern girl
Out to rule the world
And nothing can stop her now
She knows what she wants
And shes out to get it
Shes a modern girl

Easy As It Seems
Ive been your lover for too many years, Im through with wastin my time
You been out runnin without any fear, tell me why, I wanna know the reason why
(its easy as it seems) cause its easy as it seems
I keep on hearin your road never bends, you aint committin no crime
I hear youre sleepin with one of my friends, tell me why
I wanna know the reason why
(its easy as it seems) cause its easy as it seems
When youre walkin out on your dreams, you just walk away
I played your boyfriend for too many years, you know its drivin me wild
Ive seen you cryin without any tears, like a child
You wonder all the reasons why
(its easy as it seems) and its easy as it seems
When youre walkin out on your dreams, you just walk away
If it takes forever, I dont mind, if it takes forever, Ive got time
All that I wanna know, can you lay it on the line
cause if it takes forever, you know Im gonna find out
(its easy as it seems) yeah its easy as it seems
When youre walkin out on your dreams, you just walk away, walk away
(its easy as it seems) oh its easy (easy), easy as it seems
Yeah its easy (easy), oh its easy as it seems
Oh its easy (easy), oh its easy as it seems
Yeah its easy (easy), easy as it seems... (to fade)

Face Up Face Down
Welcome all my honored guests
To the utimate duel of the best of the best
At my invitation you come to compete
For the honor of suffering the final defeat
Isn't it grand what I've managed to do
By kidnapping those closest to you
I've taken their souls to lay on the line
In a winner take all duel for all time
Let's play the game
I'm sure you all know how
But watch yourselves my foolish friends
You're all in my world now
Face up, Face down. Attack or Defend
Face up, Face down. This battle's to the end
Face up, Face down. Stay on guard
Face up, Face down. Play your strongest card
My arena waits us all
I built it myself, it is just down the hall
I wish this day hadn't come so fast
You see I truly wanted your pain to last
Face up, Face down. Attack or Defend
Face up, Face down. This battle's to the end
Face up, Face down. Stay on guard
Face up, Face down. Play your strongest card
All your cunning strategies, all the tricks you try
Look like merely child's play to my Millennium Eye
Ha, ha, ha, ha! Your turn Yugi-boy
What's wrong now you look so sad?
Losing your soul doesn't feel that bad
Those you love have told me so
And soon my friends, you too will know
Let's play the game
I'm sure you all know how
But watch yourselves my foolish friends
You're all in my world now
Face up, Face down. Attack or Defend
Face up, Face down. This battle's to the end
Face up, Face down. Stay on guard
Face up, Face down. Play your strongest card
Face up, Face down. Attack or Defend
Face up, Face down. This battle's to the end
Face up, Face down. Stay on guard
Face up, Face down. Play your strongest card

Keep Ascending the Tower of Knowledge
Most of us are learned
We learnt a number of things
Some of us even added
To the knowledge base
Of the discipline we belong to
Why, a few of us
Made the learned others
Wonder at the discoveries of
New philosophies
And at the inventions
That enhanced the standard of living
Of the common man
The person who keeps
Moving up the tower of knowledge
Sees far beyond
And has a vision of
Those subjects still to be
Explored by him or her
While the less learned
Is at the lower strata of this tower
And is yet to know
That there is lot many
To be known and learnt
An expert is one,
Who knows exactly
What he does not know
And this expertise comes
By being on the path of learning
Always and every where
Looking for something to be learnt
From each event, subject and situation
To know how much
You do not know
Keep ascending the tower of knowledge

What I Learned Today
What I learned today is that there will be a tomorrow,
what I learned today is the truth is full of pain and sorrow.
What I learned yesterday is people make mistakes,
what I learned yesterday is I will do whatever it takes.
What I learned Saturday when i watched you leave I take back
what I said, what I learned Saturday is when we fought i dread.
What I learned now is that part of my heart is gone,
what I learned now is you will no longer wake me up at dawn.
It is quiet with out you,
I feel I have many things to do.

In the past decade or so, the women's magazines have taken to running home-handyperson articles suggesting that women can learn to fix things just as well as men. These articles are apparently based on the ludicrous assumption that men know how to fix things, when in fact all they know how to do is look at things in a certain squinty-eyed manner, which they learned in Wood Shop eventually, when enough things in the home are broken, they take a job requiring them to transfer to another home.

First Year University Expereinces
I learned why it is not wise to skip class often
I learned that skipping homework in university is not the same as skipping homework in high school
I learned what it feels like to be awake for over 2 days
I learned how to smoke pot from a bong
I learned how to compose an essay the day before it's due
I learned that the Freshman 15 is no joke
I learned how to do laundry
I learned to pretend to be happy
I learned to multitask
I learned to be more sociable
I learned why my parents and teachers warned me about the difficulty of university
I learned that failing is expensive
I learned small things, like freshly washed bed sheets, make me happy
I learned to lie
I learned how expensive alcohol is
I learned what it feels like to be a failure
I type this rant while skipping my business ethics class as I further delay the composition of my psychology term paper

Fortresses
Fortresses are built on the mighty mounds
Keeping war within the country, and it sounds.
Fight along the time of war and you are victorious,
Just as the ancestry will prevail in your mentality.
Forcing the imagination with war-like attributes
Cancels the war effort, and effort must be preserved.
To win the skirmish of war is faster in the thinking
And once we see surrender, we see a flag of joy.
We need fortresses of great weight and danger
That have feeling of battle, on the top of the head.
