She sang, and I listened the whole song thro'.
(It was sweet, so sweet, the singing.)
The stars were out and the moon it grew
From a wee soft glimmer way out in the blue
To a bird thro' the heavens winging.
She sang, and the song trembled down to my breast,--

As a dove just out of its fledgling nest,
And, putting its wings to the first sweet test,
Flutters homeward so wearily winging.

i sang a sad song last night and they all liked it.
i rested for a while on that soft chair on that table by the corner
like a very lonely stranger.
i listened for the singer after me with his guitar singing another
love song.
not for me but for all of you.
i smoked my marlboro cigarette and breathed out some smoke like what
the rest were doing in that crowded karaoke garden,
a tissue was passed, i looked at it on a pinlight
i would be singing again another sad love song as requested by all of you
that time it was the song that i had written myself four years ago
i had given birth to two lovely daughters then when their father left them
i took my guitar went on stage and started to strum and sing
a song i had written years ago, some memories rushing back to me
all of you were silent then with your glasses of wine and smoke
holding hands to your girl or man on your side pressing some
soft flesh and felt the sad song of love creeping like a vine in the air
you waited for the moment when i will cry again
lights and eyes focusing in my eyes
i didn't cry anymore on the stage as you saw me once crying.
my tissue was wet with tears just a moment ago when i sat like any
stranger on that table beside an empty chair.

Once we were kindred spirits (Novelinee Sequence)
There was something catching in our first words,
in my youth as a student I met you,
something that the mind and body records
that leads to an unplanned rendezvous
while quite suddenly we were both happy
and for each other our feelings were strong
as if what we had could last into eternity
it felt as together we did belong,
as if the birds were singing a love song.
The cheerful birds were singing a love song
and stronger and stronger our feelings grew
as into months and years we went along
and separated days were very few
while you had the ability to know me
became the star in my sky, the morning light
and to the depths of your soul I did see,
cherished you both during day and night,
together our future looked quite bright.
Being together our future was bright
sunny Cape summer days did linger
we were inseparable, you held me tight
both had the same song, a favourite singer,
but that was then and many years are gone
while we have lived in different places,
with time differently our lives moved on
and by all the gods and holy high graces
at times you still do sneak into my phrases.
