I've just finished my next collection, Possible Side Effects, and I'm now working on a collection of holiday stories as well as a memoir about my relationship with my father.

I've seen novels that have grown out of one story in a collection. But it hasn't occurred to me to take any of those stories and build on them. They seem very finished for me, so I don't feel like going back and dredging them up.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

For Ray
My friend’s partner Ray
has a hobby
and his collection
has earned him a nickname from it.
He collects Buddha’s
as others would collect books.
A large collection he has
that now people call him
the Buddha man.

Collection
Collection, ten, net, on, no, ton, not, colt, cot, tell, line, tin;
But evil appears out of the North! !
Collection, ion, toll, Cole, Lot, lot, let, cone, cell, in, cine;
The prophets prophesy falsely to gain their wealth! !
And the preachers bear rule by their own authority;
But the people around do love it so.

What we become depends on what we read after all of the professors have finished with us. The greatest university of all is a collection of books.

I'm working now on a collection of Shakespearean sonnets, about 100 of them, that I may publish if anyone's interested. My take on life is a little different from the bard's.

A Collection
(music: marillion lyrics: steve hogarth)
Ive got a photograph
I took a picture of you
I took your photograph in front of my favourite view
You play the part so well
You look so sure and free
No one could ever tell that you belong to me
And cause you lie so well
Ive got to pin you down
Under lock and key
So you will always be in my in my collection
If you cant speak you cant lie
If you cant run and you cant hide
I know a place you cant die
So no one lives inside
My collection
I want to capture you
I want to immortalize
The way you play with your hair
The way you flash your eyes
I taste the air you breathe
I taste the food you eat
I keep your nails and hair
And some of the clothes you wear
If you cant speak you cant lie
If you cant run you cant hide
And if youre dead you cant die
So no one lives inside
No one lives inside
My collection
Ive got some photographs
Id like to show them to you
though you dont know the girls
Youll recognize the view...

An Impossible Task
Faced with an impossible task –
collecting the right amount to save
the orphanage – I’ve held collection
boxes before, it was awful, I don’t do
it anymore – now to begin again, being
a beggar for a good cause, my heart is sore,
this is not something I can accomplish, walking
from door to door, standing at a shopping centre
with a collection board, feeling so bad I can’t smile
and beg nicely – if these poor orphans are dependent
on me, they’ll starve to death, that’s for sure…

Pastors
'New Vision Party' led by Pastors,
They are now into the political race to stand for a President;
But what have they done to the collection plates? ! !
Of the genealogical history of the heavens,
Of the genealogical history of the earth,
The light is day and the darkness is night;
So try to gain wisdom on this issue before it is too late!
For the collection plates are not even enough for these Pastors.

Sea Child
Sea child
Go swim in the sea here at home
Because it is very hot outside
And the only way for you to cool down
Is to swim in the lake
But the water is not hot in the sea
Because it is nice and cold
Sea child
Why don't you start a collection of sea shells?
And what you will need to start a collection of sea shell
Is to pick up the sea shells outside the sea here at home
Also the seashells are made of any marine mollusk

I am a collection of water, calcium and organic molecules called Carl Sagan. You are a collection of almost identical molecules with a different collective label. But is that all? Is there nothing in here but molecules? Some people find this idea somehow demeaning to human dignity. For myself, I find it elevating that our universe permits the evolution of molecular machines as intricate and subtle as we.

To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean
To ride on the crest of a wild raging storm
To work in the service of life and the living
In search of the answers to questions unknown
To be part of the movement and part of the growing
Part of beginning to understand
Aye, calypso, the places youve been to
The things that youve shown us
The stories you tell
Aye, calypso, I sing to your spirit
The men who have served you
So long and so well
Like the dolphin who guides you
You bring us beside you
To light up the darkness and show us the way
For though we are strangers in your silent world
To live on the land we must learn from the sea
To be true as the tide
And free as the wind-swell
Joyful and loving in letting it be
Aye, calypso, the places youve been to
The things that youve shown us
The stories you tell
Aye, calypso, I sing to your spirit
The men who have served you
So long and so well
Aye, calypso, the places youve been to

Plaster Caster
Babys getting anxious, the hours getting late
The night is almost over, she cant wait
Oh, things are complicating, my love is in her hands
And theres no more waiting, she understands
The plasters gettin harder and my love is perfection
A token of my love for her collection, her collection
Plaster caster, grab a hold of me faster
And if you wanna see my love, just ask her
And my love is the plaster
And yeah, shes the collector
She wants me all the time to inject her
The plasters gettin harder and my love is perfection
A token of my love for her collection
Plaster caster, plaster caster
Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster
And if you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her
Go on, ask her
The plasters gettin harder and my love is perfection
A token of my love for her collection, her collection
Plaster caster, plaster caster
Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster
If you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her
Plaster caster, plaster caster
She wants my love to last her, last her, last her
And she calls me by the name of master, master
Plaster caster, plaster caster
Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster
If you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her
Plaster caster, plaster caster
Grab a hold of me faster, plaster, faster
And if you wanna see my love, just ask her, ask her
Plaster caster, plaster caster

On His Father's Side
On his mother’s side
Born in Bethlehem
On his Father’s side
No one before him
On his mother’s side
Growing and learning
On his Father’s side
All knowledge showing
On his mother’s side
Stuck in one location
On his Father’s side
Present in every nation
On his mother’s side
He was hungry
On his Father’s side
The multitudes he did feed
On his mother’s side
At Calvary he died
On his Father’s side
He was the essence of life
On his mother’s side
Buried like other men
On his Father’s side
He rose again
On his mother’s side
Human and weak
On his Father’s side
The God of eternity.

If you read my poem
If you read my poem
Thank you my friend
For suffering with me
Through the various
terrifying onslaught
of the ordeal of the
pain of searching for
The right perfect
word that meets the
Demands of the script
before me that makes
The poem scream to
want to be unchained
To be born as the bright
magic epic unforgettable
Little great masterpiece
that we both pray for it
To be the bright star
garlanded with the beauty
We lovingly anticipate it
with anxious love to greet
The rising sun as the new
sparkling star to be added
To our vast collection of
our star studded collection

My father's record collection was full of New Orleans music of all kinds. I used to listen to the radio in New York, and all there was on it at the time was Madonna and Michael Jackson, so it sort of passed me by.

I Am Rich
Good God, my fortune has been foretold,
It is a disappointing fact and religious dreams are dead.
Distinguished people will lack practice when given wealth,
But I am enough to say, I a rich man is today in health.
Money is the objective, and your purpose is mine,
The same has burnt in the mandibles of men
Who shiver and release a hand for those in service,
Who is the service, and who is the blame?
My money, my money! I ask for nothing other than it.
Good God, my design is like yours, I love itself and no scene shall end it,
Only crying has been laughter, and living been gaze,
When the richer habits are kept, too much collection,
And to tightly hold the gold has been a collection.
O God I am rich!
