Later, I could take something off my slider and I could make my fastball sink, so I really had four pitches.

If you can get an out on one pitch, take it. Let the strikeouts come on the outstanding pitches. Winning is the big thing. If you throw a lot of pitches, before you know it, your arm is gone.

The Sleeper
If you’re ever in Chicago, , and you have some extra time, .
There’s a baseball legend buried there, a sleeper of a kind.
He won’t help you win at fantasy. It was long ago he played
For forty years or more he has been waiting in his grave.
John Donaldson was a Monarch on the Kansas City team,
perhaps the greatest pitcher ever in the Negro League.
His fastball was like Feller’s when Bob was in his prime
He had a Curve like Mathewson’s, a Giant of his time.
He is buried among teammates who never made the Show
A three hundred game winner that true fans ought to know.
In little towns and hamlets he won renown and fame
He never made the majors, they were then a white man’s game.
His victories and strikeouts have been obscured by time.
He was born a bit too early to ever break the color line.
He was working toting mailbags on his final fatal day
When, like his famous slider, he would break down and fade away.

For the Dead of the Revolution
Death-prone, the bodies
forked in mutiny
against the collar
of the uncooked plague,
your destiny cleansed
with the dark gesture.
By whom the paths are prepared,
to sink upon the grill,
death pitches forward still
before him, in reverence.

Black Mamba
Hand in the snake pit - black mamba chase.
Head through the lions cage - head on a plate.
Two feet on the hot coals - last dance at the ball.
Blindfold on the tightrope - whenever you call.
Be my slippery slider, black mamba crawl over me.
Dark thoughts of the sleepless - hung out to dry.
Slip through the bedclothes - unblinking eye.
Long tongue flickering - fixed stare grip.
Sweet venomous potion, held to my lip.
Be my slippery slider, black mamba crwal over me.
A tropical whisper. a sibilant kiss.
Soft strike teasing. dangerous bliss.

If I ever find a pitcher who has heat, a good curve, and a slider, I might seriously consider marrying him, or at least proposing.

You are into a relationship
You are on a ship
In a traveling crowd
Alone
And you look at the sea
You have no direction
And seeing you lonely
The sea says
“come into me
my love for you is boundless
my resources for you are limitless”
and you look at yourself
on a ship
you have no choice
you have nothing to lose
you take nothing with you
and you jump
into a relationship
with the sea
the sea makes love to you
you feel nothing
you sink
you sink deeper & deeper
into a relationship
and you feel
you are all wrapped
all over with its waves
your arms bound
your hands can not move
you can not help yourself anymore
you sink
you sink deeper & deeper & deeper
you see everything about the sea
the sea loves you
with all its resources
with all its love
you feel nothing
you sink
you sink deeper
you feel nothing
you are dead
you were already dead
a long long time ago
when you were
on that ship
you did not make any scream against your own shadow

Slim Slow Slider
Slim slow slider
Horse you ride
White as snow
Slim slow slider
Horse you ride
Is white as snow
Tell it everywhere you go
Saw you walking
Down by the ladbroke grove this morning
Saw you walking
Down by the ladbroke grove this morning
Catching pebbles for some sandy beach
Youre out of reach
Saw you early this morning
With your brand new boy and your cadillac
Saw you early this morning
With your brand new boy and your cadillac
Youre gone for something
And I know you wont be back
I know youre dying, baby
And I know you know it, too
I know youre dying
And I know you know it, too
Everytime I see you
I just dont know what to do

I looked for the same pitch my whole career, a breaking ball. All of the time. I never worried about the fastball. They couldn't throw it past me, none of them.

The reason I think I'm a good pitcher is I locate my fastball and I change speeds. Period. That's what you do to pitch. That's what pitchers have to do to win games.

Time~
Time waits for no one
Tick tocking itself along
Even measured seconds
Morphing into minutes
Minutes into hours
Into days, months
And, yes years;
Where did it all?
Down the drain?
Much like the water
Draining in the sink...
This sink that we call life
This sink that once held it all...
The sink, my sink, once full now empty
Down the drain
Kind of like my life;

Carbon Sinks
I think that I shall never see
a better Carbon Sink than M.I.T.’s
It helps keep green house gas at bay
By sequestering it away
The Carbon Sink works like a tree
but does it more efficiently
When trees in wintertime are bare
The Carbon Sink still cleans the air
And trees can yield up carbon once again
When Forest fires make them burn
Poems are made by fools like me
But Carbon Sinks are made by M.I.T
