As a journalist, it is so easy to get hardened when you see so many stories that are disturbing. Sometimes it's just your survival mechanism that makes you hardened to some of it.

Hardened And Tempered
I once was forsaken
Broken and blind
I was lost in the darkness
I was lost in my mind
Hardened and tempered
Refined of all dross
Hardened and tempered
Whatever the cost
And then I found Jesus
Now forever I'll be
Bathed in your beauty
Closer to thee
Hardened and tempered
And only for thee
Hardened and tempered
To thine arms I flee

The Love That You Have
The love that you had
In your heart is gone
Any touch of sincerity
Any trace of compassion
What hardened your heart?
What turned it to stone?
What made you forget?
You were in love with someone
Your hands dont reach out
Your voice doesnt call me
I know youve stopped listening
Your eyes look straight through me
If nights are like this
Id rather be alone
Who said you could forget
You were in love with someone?
Tell me what hardened your heart
Tell me what turned it to stone
Tell me what made you forget
You were in love with someone
Was I wrong to forgive
Your indiscretions?
Should I have been more hysterical
Less understanding?
If youre looking for a villain
Go on assume the role
But dont say that its my fault
That youre not in love with someone
Tell me what hardened your heart
Tell me what turned it to stone
Tell me what made you forget
You were in love with someone
Tell me theres someone in your life
Ill fight to keep your for my own
Tell me because I really want to know
Why you cant be in love with someone

Run
Answer me
Why wont you answer me
I cant recall the day that I last heard from you
Well you dont get a town like this for nothing
So heres what youve got to do
You work your way to the top of the world
Then you break your life in two
Well whats the use in complaining
When youve got what you dont need
Anyone would think you were hardened too
What do you want me to believe
What the hell is happening
I cant think of everything
I dont know what day it is
Or who Im talking to
But I know that Im ok
cause youre here with me today
I havent got a single problem
Now that Im with you
So whats the use in complaining
When youve got everything you need
Anyone would think you were hardened too
What do you want me to believe

They Struggle Through Life
They struggle through life as they battle with stress
Those born and raised at an unfashionable address
It is a long hike to success and renown
For those who are born at the poor side of town.
Their parents in jail for serious crime
And they become hardened criminals before their life's prime
Homeless in their early teens life hardened and street wise
The wounded eagle from the ground cannot rise.
They are the poor souls on whom drug dealers prey
And from Poverty Street it does seem a long way
To the road to success from the pit of despair
From the poor side of town success stories are rare.
Like their parents of success they stand little chance
They are the poor victims of bad circumstance
Their sense of self esteem is damaged beyond repair
And you cannot tell me that all in life is fair.

About Us......
our sensitivities
grow in a glass house
hardened
by incoming stones
who is afraid of the pieces
of broken glasses?
our wrists are experienced
sufferers
they heal themselves in
due time
we know what the word
endure means
by heart
we are devoured somehow
but still whole
in those vomits
do they find us bitter pills?
don't they know that we are the cure
of those unreasonable fears?
those stones turn out
to be marshmallows getting more
delicious looking
at the flames
on those cold evenings
beneath the
darkness in the forest
we eats stones
no longer afraid of indigestion
our guts
have kept the morning glories
glorious gods
with hardened walls

Bloody Red Tears
Tears of blood
Oh, bloody red tears
They fall on my pillow
And it soaks in blood, red and liquefied
They fall to the floor bellow
And once dried...
It's covered in blood, brown and hardened
Oh, bloody red tears
They're the result of what no-one can mend
All my hurt that built up over the years
Bloody red tears
They're so beautiful to me
They quench my thirst nobody knows of or hears
Only one thirst could that be
The thirst to see blood and pain
Oh, it's so good to my eyes
But, my hurt, I also have a thirst to drain
All those lies!
They cause some of my bloody red tears
They cause my hardened heart, even when someone dies
Oh, bloddy red tears
They're so good to me
And have been all these years

Rise in life is a vanity.
Every rise in your status
Makes you rigid to stoop.
Love that in-flows is false.
Love that out-flows is stagnant.
At last, you end up as useless,
An empty barrel in vanity.
A creeper that hardened to a tree.

The Pharaohs of Today
Pain and labor of oppression gave the Western world its birth,
From such shores the love of freedom ne'er should perish from the earth;
To a conscience that's awakened, these are words to make it start,
'Each oppressor of a human buys himself a hardened heart!'
'Twas the sixties broke the shackles from the body of the slave,
Which was only half his freedom, for his mind we now must save.
Liberty of his opinion, such as other people use
Give him all that makes for manhood, and the same he'll not abuse.
True, the God of ancient Israel loves the Negro of today,
Many proofs are had in common of the truth of what I say;
For the stronger the oppression made them multiply and grow,
Of the Negro in this country quite the same is true, you know.
'Give him freedom,' says the white man, 'will defeat our greatest plan,
With his freedom here's the trouble, he'll aspire to be a man.
Men will scorn to suffer treatment on the level of a brute,
Safest way to keep them subjects is their manhood to dispute.'
Ancient Pharaoh was a pagan, bowing down to wood and stone,
Deeds today of Christian Pharaohs would disgrace the ancient throne.
Leaguers now with Satan's kingdom from their plans he never parts,
Such oppressors of a human pay the price of hardened hearts!
Pharaoh's cruelty in Egypt filled the Israelites with pain,
Thus his heart was fully hardened out of love for earthly gain.
For the same he met destruction; to his rashness it was due,
Modern Pharaohs, his example may a lesson bring to you!
When the Jews for wrong decided, then the nation lost its rank.
Rome, debauched in gross corruption, into degradation sank.
Sins of national importance bring calamities the same,
Just as true as it is ancient, sin will bring the nation shame.

Likewise today, some Christians are content to merely exist until they die. They don't want to risk anything, to believe God, to grow or mature. They refuse to believe his Word, and have become hardened in their unbelief. Now they're living just to die.

I've seen many men die right in front of me - so many in fact that I've become almost hardened to it. Having seen the worst that human beings can do to each other, the results of torture, mutilation and seeing someone blown to pieces by a bomb, you develop a kind of shell. But you had to. You had to. Otherwise we would never have won.

Autumn Song
Now's the time when children's noses
All become as red as roses
And the colour of their faces
Makes me think of orchard places
Where the juicy apples grow,
And tomatoes in a row.
And to-day the hardened sinner
Never could be late for dinner,
But will jump up to the table
Just as soon as he is able,
Ask for three times hot roast mutton--
Oh! the shocking little glutton.
Come then, find your ball and racket,
Pop into your winter jacket,
With the lovely bear-skin lining.
While the sun is brightly shining,
Let us run and play together
And just love the autumn weather.
