I started listening to and playing other music in the '90s. It was after hearing other bands, like Bad Religion, cover Ramones songs that I started to like our songs again.

When we first started playing in the early days, none of us really had any idea about writing our own songs yet. We were struggling how to learn our instruments and play songs to be able to perform for people.

She Just Started Liking Cheatin' Songs
She just started liking cheatin songs
And what's bothering me
I don't know if its the cheatin' she likes
Or just the melody
I've never had any reason to doubt her
As far as I know she's been true
But lately she's had a different look in her eyes
I wonder if she's seein somebody new
You can't blame a body for lookin
When there's a world of people out there
But I hope that she's not takin any closer looks
I tell ya lately frankly I've been scared
Cause she just started liking cheatin' songs
And what's bothering me
I don't know if its the cheatin' she likes
Or just the melody
I've got to admit I do some looking too
But she's the only one I love
She still tells me she loves me
But I wonder if my love's enough
Cause she just started liking cheatin' songs
And what's bothering me
I don't know if its the cheatin' she likes
Or just the melody
Yeah she just started liking cheatin' songs
And what's bothering me
I don't know if its the cheatin' she likes
Or just the melody
Yeah I don't know if its the cheatin' she likes
Or just the melody

I wanted to play rock and roll when I started playing. Nobody at that time ever thought about songwriting. You sang songs, that's all. You sang other people's songs. That's all there were.

David Lee Roth had the idea that if you covered a successful song, you were half way home. C'mon - Van Halen doing 'Dancing in the Streets'? It was stupid. I started feeling like I would rather bomb playing my own songs than be successful playing someone else's music.

My father being in the movie business, I thought being an actor would be great. But when I started singing to people in coffeehouses, you know, singing folk music and then, later, singing songs that I started to write myself, I felt more than an affinity for it.

The Ballad Of Annie Goodbody
Well I took annie out
To see a show
But the music that played
Was too slow
And I knew
If I was going to make any ground
Id have to get some place
Where the music was loud
I said okay babe what do you wanna do
We can cut on out
If you want to
She looked at me and said
just what this place needs
Is some good ol rock and roll
Right from the seeds
Stand in front
Cause she climbed on the stage
And when she opened her mouth
She could really rave
She sang like a bird
And moved like a snake
Suddenly the hall began to shake
Well her body started rocking
On the dance floor
Moving and a shaking
And wanting more
She nearly brought the roof down
With all the rock and roll
Her body started shaking
With the songs that she sang
Even big lucy and her female gang
Her music was loud
Things were getting hot
Whatever it is
Annies sure got
Oooh every body started shakin
With the songs that she sang
Even big lucy and her female gang
The music was loud
Things were getting hot
Whatever it was
Annies sure got
Yeah yeah annie goodbody
I love you
Yes I do
You know I love you

Down On Music Row
Chorus:
Down on music row
Down on music row
If you want to be a star
Thats where youve got to go
I could feel a change a comin
I left my hometown a hummin
With my ol guitar a strummin
Songs that I had wrote
I was on my way to nashville
I just couldnt hardly wait
till I could sing my songs
To the folks on music row
I got into nashville early
Sleepy, hungry, tired and dirty
And on the steps of rca
I ate a stale, sweet roll
In the fountain at the hall of fame
I washed my face and read the names
In the walkway of the stars
Down on music row
Repeat chorus
I waited there till eight oclock
When office doors became unlocked
Then I started walkin
Down the streets of music row
Just a walkin up and down the street
Tryin to find out who to see
To help me get on record
And to hear the songs Id wrote
But I found it goin rough
Everyone was all tied up
Either in a conference
Or in the studio
They said that I could leave a tape
But theyd suggest I didnt wait
cause everyone was awful busy
Down on music row
But I could feel that change a comin
And I just kept right on a hummin
With my ol guitar still strummin
All them songs that Id wrote
And then chet and bob at rca
Well, they listened to my songs that day
And they both told me that I was on my way
Down on music row
Repeat chorus

I Write The Songs
Ive been alive forever,
And I wrote the very first song.
I put the words and the melodies together,
I am music,
And I write the songs.
I write the songs that make the whole world sing.
I write the songs of love and special thing s.
I write the songs that make the young girls cry.
I write the songs, I write the songs.
My home lies deep within you,
And Ive got my own place in your sole.
Now, when I look out through your eyes,
Im youg again, even though Im very old.
Chorus
Oh my music makes you dance
And gives your spirit to take a chance,
And I wrote some rock n roll so you can move.
Music fills your heart,
Well, thats a real fine place to start.
Its from me its for you,
Its from you, its from me,
Its a world wide symphony.
Chorus
I am music, and I write the songs.

Bouncing Off The Walls
She's ecstatic
She can't help it
She's bouncing off the walls again
Listening to her favorite love songs
Chatting with her man
Recalling old times
Bring up old memories
Listening to her favorite love songs
Shes bouncing off the walls again
Cause her love maybe coming back into her life
While listening to her favorite love songs
I think she has a permanent smile on her face
She's bouncing off the walls again
Drinking English Breakfast tea and listening to her favorite love songs

We started playing music from an early age and so we wasn't really aware of that side of it, the weird thing is the more successful you get the more free booze and drugs you get, they should be given to the bands who don't have the money.
