Before you try to convince anyone else, be sure you are convinced, and if you cannot convince yourself, drop the subject.

Coltrane
Wakin' up at nine
Looks at his paper
Can't deal with what he sees
All the troubled lives
The talk of the ages
He's crawling back to bed
Don't take a walk outside
Don't make any new friends
He's crawling back to bed
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing
Callin' all his friends
He's known 'em for ages
Can't deal with what they say
Connective alibis
Cold and contagious
He's crawling back to bed
So cut off the phone lines
Stock up on water
He's crawling back to bed
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know what I'm doing
You'd better convince me man
'Cause I, I don't know who I'm screwing

I'm supposed to convince you, for two hours, that I'm somebody else. Now if you know everything about my life, if you think you've got me figured out and you think you know all my dark secrets, how am I ever going to convince you that I'm somebody else?

Am I Trying To Convince You I Am Happy?
You have a need to convince me,
Your way of life lived is right.
Why can't you just leave me alone?
Am I trying to convince you I am happy?
What part of goodbye do you need defined?

I can't convince you to put the drink down if you're an alcoholic, you have to want to do that. I can't convince you to stop eating the cookies when you're a diabetic. You have to do that. And that takes responsibility.

One must be convinced to convince, to have enthusiasm to stimulate the others.

I'm not out there trying to get press for myself nor am I trying to convince anybody that I'm living any kind of a life. I'm actually trying to convince people: I don't want you to know what I'm living, because it's none of your business.

Positiveness is a good quality for preachers and speakers because, whoever shares his thoughts with the public will convince them as he himself appears convinced.

Feed
Under
It's dark
Right now
Release me
I've come this far
I'd don't need you
Right
I don't miss much
I don't miss you
See right through me
Convince me that I'm wrong
Feed me this line all twisted
Convince me to be strong
Did it before
And you'll do it again
Step on my toes
As you call me a friend
Your massive attack
Is to prey on the weak
Let the fun begin
Every time you speak
Under
Inside
Right now
Release me

It's Been A Summer
I'm cracked from my head down to my spine
And I'm trying to convince myself
That the way I feel is all I have
It could take a lifetime
To realize that you're alright
But she said
"I'd know when you would come back"
It's been a summer
It's burning up in here
Even thought the bed is cold on your side
I'd rather die
then spend this night here without you
I would try to fix these flaws of mine
If I could just see you for one more time
And I'm trying to convince myself
That the way I feel is all I have
I don't believe in sure things
There's pain in what the truth brings
I'd be the first one to know
If its smart for me to just let it go
I'll be the laughing stock of all time
Person most likely to find
Deciding if it's fate that made you avoid me to this day

Its Been A Summer
Its been a summer
Im cracked from my head down to my spine
Ready to self destruct
At any time
And Im trying to convince myself that the way Im feeling is all I have
It could take a lifetime
To realize that youre alright
(but you said)
I know when you will come back
Its been a summer
Its burning up in here
Even though the bed is cold on your side
Id rather die than spend this night here without you
(without you)
I would try to fix these flaws of mine
If I could just see you (if I could just see you)
For one more time
And Im trying to convince myself that the way Im felling is all I have
I dont believe it sure fits
Theres pity, but the truth brings:
Ill be the first one to know
If its wrong for me to just let it go
Ill be the laughing stock of florida
Person most likely to find it saddening
Its fate that made you want for me til this day

When the conduct of men is designed to be influenced, persuasion, kind unassuming persuasion, should ever be adopted. It is an old and true maxim that 'a drop of honey catches more flies than a gallon of gall.' So with men. If you would win a man to your cause, first convince him that you are his sincere friend. Therein is a drop of honey that catches his heart, which, say what he will, is the great highroad to his reason, and which, once gained, you will find but little trouble in convincing him of the justice of your cause, if indeed that cause is really a good one.

I've Done My Job
'How did we arrive,
To get 'ourselves' into this situation? '
I thought you knew.
You were the one to convince me,
To follow you and not the others.
'This is true.
Now what do 'we' do?
It would make no sense,
To accuse or blame each other.
With no choices left,
To accept, reject or defend 'our' decisions.'
'Our' decisions?
Hey...
You convinced me to follow 'you'!
I've done my job.

You Are Much Too Generous
Why is it you 'must' remind me,
Of your greatness periodically?
What's up with that?
'Well...
If you are reminded and I am convinced,
Eventually I won't be left to do all the PR.'
And...?
'And what? '
What about me?
'What about you?
As long as you do what you're suppose to do,
I'll let you entertain the notion of being just as great.
We'll create an equal opportunity campaign!
How's that? '
You are much too generous.
'Tell me about it.
I've been trying to convince the others of that,
For years, decades, lifetimes.'
Don't get too full of yourself.
One day you might find yourself,
Swimming to catch up to that boat you claimed...
You hand built alone with no help!

It Is The Restriction To Limits I Resist
I see nothing wrong,
With anyone being idealistic.
It is the restriction to limits I resist.
And anyone voicing their opinion on this...
Would be hard pressed to convince me,
Of their experiences.
Especially If I suspect,
Their minds are closed to adventures.
And they reject a life with premeditated objections.
That is not living.
That is a fear to live.
What is the point of having the gift of life...
If someone hides from it,
To be convinced which way to live is right!
If I chose to be restricted,
I would first live,
To then create those ideals.

Hollow Soul
Nothing you have done,
Or can say will convince me...
You have 'always' been concerned,
About my wellbeing.
And you are here to express sincerity.
There have been too many times,
I have witnessed you...
Using a perception of my weakness,
To benefit jokes you've told!
And at my expense.
With an added pinch of your embellishment.
Has an increase in my influence,
Lowered you a step or two...
From the back of your high horse?
Or are you trying to patronize me,
With superficiality?
And you believe I will not recognize,
The shallow person you are and I see.
You have never hidden that,
From me or anyone else.
And that's not bitterness that speaks.
Those are unfaced facts!
You have always been a hollow soul.
Seeking to socialize your need to demean.
Nothing you have done,
Or can say will convince me...
You have 'always' been concerned,
About my wellbeing.
And you are here to express sincerity.
I would believe that,
If that had been shown...
As an ongoing process of your history!
But that part of your heart,
I have not seen exposed.

Miraculous
Somehow...
It has remained,
Anchored!
Cemented in their heads...
That it is perfectly okay,
To stay completely obstinate.
Against change.
And the evolution of it!
And somehow...
A satisfaction sits,
With those trying to convince
Others who have moved on.
Silence has come to visit upon their stagnant voices.
Somehow...
They believe,
Such a stubbornness that exists...
Is a mindset that is envied.
Somehow...
One has to be awed,
By this self hypnosis seen
That can 'drop' jaws!
It is magical and miraculous,
That folks like this have any existence at all!
But they do...
Somehow.

Worn
Working too hard
Keep myself thin
Wearing the scars
Of where I haven't been
Yearns, yearns
Yearns, yearns
Working so hard
Grown this far
Clutching the charts
I've always torn apart
Nations worn down
They're just fooling around
Threating your world
Released in my ground
I'm up against an old brick wall
I've tucked my nails in
Hanging to the same old sore
Here is where I know I've been
All alone
Towards the end
Raise myself again
All alone
I'm killing this soul
Convince myself again
Covered in sin
Carrying the stones
Cease fire, fire, fire, fire
Killing these lies
Killing these lies
Killing these lies
Killing these lies
All alone
Towards the end
Raise myself again
All alone
I'm killing this soul
Convince myself again
Working so hard
I'm innocent
I'm wearing the scars
Of what I haven't been
I'm up against an old brick wall
I've tucked my nails in
Hanging to the same old sore
Here is where I know I've been
All alone
Towards the end
Raise myself again
All alone
I'm killing this soul
Convince myself again
I'm telling this for
All my friends
Tell it like it is

Those Nouveau Riche
They seem to herald,
Every reason conceived to be narrow.
Those nouveau riche.
Reaching heights as stuck ups,
With bragging and branding rights.
And exaggerated struts,
That appear to have their rears corked up!
They seem to wish to convince,
The ones who are 'have nots'...
And penniless,
Of something they have got.
A snob appeal they can flaunt and drop.
As if making appearances,
To quick sniff the air...
Makes others aware with a staring,
That they are there to show...
Those who are 'hopefully' jealous,
How to impress and get that addressed.
