Sonnet 19

let fame be exchange of the masses
and power be sought by ambitious few.
love recognizes only souls and asks us
to divert energies to its intent and view.

time and circumstance thieve fame away.
changing fortune's inconstant as wind.
all things but this to time fall prey-
in love does fortune eternal store find.

not pages for the unloving ear to digest-
your story is chapters written in despair-
neither fame nor power may gain conquest;
humble and simple, love finds access there.

your eyes' rhetoric conquests earth's might!
reflected in that glass is love's true Light!

Be ambitious

Be ambitious
But, cautiously
Keeping in view
The nature and extent
Of your strengths
And after weighing
Your weaknesses

Be ambitious of
Harnessing strengths of others
For raising a human race
For collective growth and
Harmonious co-existence
Not of developing a mass
For a mad and unquestioned following

Be ambitious
Of becoming something yourself
Not of becoming a owner
Of material significance

Be ambitious
Of evolving new values to life
Not of adding values
To things in your possession

Be ambitious
Of helping others
Realize new dimensions of existence
Not of helping them
Just to exist

Be ambitious
Of bringing more and more
Into your affectionate bond of love
Not of keeping others
Into your fold because of fear for you
Or favour from you

Be ambitious of
Knowing yourself better
Not of making others
Understand you better

Be ambitious of
Becoming a model human being
For others to emulate
Not of copying or emulating
Someone’s model

Be ambitious of
Being special
Not of forcing others
To feel that you are special

Be ambitious of
Leaving a mark of yourself
On the community you belong to
Resisting the community
Stamp on you
Its symbols, myths, dogmas
And less established faiths

Simply,
Be ambitious of
Becoming a beloved
Compassionate and
Complete human being

All The World's Ruled By A Dragon

All the world's ruled by the Dragon -
Fiery, mad, wicked, perverse.
Let me praise him with a humble,
Daring and ironic curse:

You, destruction-bringer, ordered
The damp swamps to show your power;
You brought forth the trees and grasses
Growing into leaves and flowers.

All things flying, all things crawling
You made - though their time is brief.
Those aware and those ambitious
You doomed to the harshest life.

You moved and clouds started floating . . .
You chased winds along the land,
So your kisses, deadly scorching,
Would not sear before you planned.

And your orders can't be cancelled;
You have no mercy to bring.
You rule and don't hear our begging.
You don't love. You kill each thing.

Hurricane Roars and New York Naps

Some still absent power; all absent subways and buses; others
absent theatrical Broadway; still others absent restaurants of
many…but

Hurricane past, not without experiencing its majesty,
terror, and the sublimity of a great storm.
Dark clouds roamed the sky shadowing it and the sun.
Man ran to greet the storm, after meeting, in terror he runs.

The winds round buildings moaning and howling like a pack of wolves.
Yet my shivering legs and feet tap and beat to the sounds:
The furious winds ripping down signs, clashing lamppost; and splintering
objects and tossing to the street; and pulling cranes from their posts and
throwing to the ground.

Even rain and winds chased folk from their homes; stripped trees to the bare bone.
Young sprightly trees swayed before humbly bowing, yet the shore was fully exposed
to the East river's surge and the Atlantic Ocean's waves reminding me of the climate changes and its beauty and power!

Bye, bye, bye Sandy: New York just awakens from her nap!

Truth, More Than Deceit, Shall Fill Thy Self

Truly, deeply do I believe in love's power,
Not the tallest of men, but over all others I tower!
No one has the tremendous future I share-
Search high and low- you'll find nowhere!

Perfect as a descripter would be to understate-
Hopeful am I, that of love's power, you appreciate!
Ever increasing its power from one day to the next-
Not knowing of its presence- most become vexed!

Ne'er may any other render compare,
Nor would any other possibly dare
An attempt at comparison between the love of mine-
As inevitable shall I be the victor every time!

Belief in power larger than myself-
Truth, more than deceit, shall fill thy self!

What Does It Take To Be A Leader

What does it take to be a leader you ask someone other than me
For in most in positions of power a hunger for power I do see
I speak in the tongue of a cynic yet would it not be fair to say
That one only becomes the Leader of a Country by being ambitious in a big way
Those who do need power in a big way are only out for their own fame
The Presidents never become Presidents without wishing for to make for themselves a name
Perhaps it is all about ego this great human lust for renown
A rare breed indeed quiet achievers though a few do live in every town
One never becomes Prime Minister or President of A Country without for the top job having the need
For surely one never does become a leader without desperately wanting to lead
'Tis tough at the top some will tell you but those at the top at the top fight to stay
The lust for power and success at it's greatest in the competitive Human World of today
So many look up to their leaders and the praises of their leaders do sing
But many with power do crave more power for power can be an addictive thing.

Fame And Fortune

Sittin' in the back of a limousine, feelin' just like a king
All the girls come runnin' to you, you're the latest thing
Sittin' up there at the top of the charts, lookin' like Mr. Cool
You take all the money, steal their hearts, they'll come runnin' to you
Your fame and your fortune, look what it brought you
All your fame and your fortune, you better take a look around
With your fame and your fortune, careful who you talk to
Or the fame and your fortune, watch it all tumble down, yeah, oh listen now
Now you're lookin' for inspiration, somethin' to say
When you find that it don't come easy, you find them running away
You had it all in the palm of your hand, and let it slip away
You made it big, ooh so big, and then you threw it all away
All your fame and your fortune, look what it brought you
Fame and your fortune, hey you better take another look
At your fame and your fortune, it set you up, then it caught you
Fame and your fortune, surely gonna let you down, hey tell me now
(Solo)
All your fame and your fortune, look what it brought you
Take your fame and your fortune, wait and take a look around
For your fame and your fortune, who do you talk to
'Bout your fame and your fortune, as it all comes tumbling down
Fame and your fortune, fame and your fortune, yes all come tumbling down
Fame and your fortune, fame and your fortune, all comes tumbling down...

Fortune Smiles

Fortune smiles, cry holiday,
Dimples on her cheeks do dwell,
Fortune frowns, cry welladay,
Her love is heaven, her hate is hell:
Since heaven and hell obey her power,
Tremble when her eyes do lour,
Since heaven and hell her power obey,
When she smiles, cry holiday.
Holiday with joy we cry
And bend, and bend and merrily,
Sing Hymns to Fortune's deity,
Sing Hymns to Fortune's deity.

Let us sing, merrily, merrily, merrily,
With our song let heaven resound,
Fortune's hands our heads have crown'd,
Let us sing merrily, merrily, merrily.

Blind Horses

A blind horse stood among the trees of fortune,
And hearts leapt for the hearts to live among the apes;
When we strolled according to ways known to man,
The animals of water that once could take no liquid
Drank their fill from the oceanic masses as if they were real.
Water was inside and land fats began,
When the wooden animals soothed us in the sun.
Going on ahead, the trees of fortune understood
The relief, so they were no longer afflicted.

Tree Climbing

When I was 6 years of age,
I would go tree climbing all through the day.
My older brother would say to his friends,
“My sister Suzy can climb highest, you want to bet? ”
I would then look up at the tallest tree,
I knew I could make it without falling on my knee.
Yes, I would go straight to the top,
the top of the highest tree and then I’ld stop,
I would look down to see the world,
I was the happiest little girl.
All the trees where close together,
I felt like a bird with a lot of feathers.
I had made it to where the birds do roam,
I was at the top of the tower at my throne.
This reminds me of “Rising of the Planet of the Apes,
When Cornelius was happy to escape.
Climbing the tallest tree,
watching him brought back memories.
Memories of my tree climbing days,
I will always remember it in a special kind of way.

Power

Sometimes a smile can deceive the one who has made you promise
Suddenly you can't believe, the truth only leaves you cold
Sometimes the answers you fear are there on the face in the mirror
Something the world needs to hear but no one is even listening
Power It takes Power Power It takes Power
To back up the things you say
Power It takes Power Power It takes Power
To cut through the chains Breakaway
Fortune can wear a disguise Pride is a grand illusion
And when it's your name up in lights fate proves this one conclusion
Sometimes the answers you fear are there on the face in the mirror
Something the world needs to hear the truth only leaves you cold
Power It takes Power Power It takes Power
To back up the things you say
Power It takes Power Power It takes Power
To cut through the chains Breakaway
Power It takes Power Power It takes Power
To fight back and not be afraid
Power It takes Power Power It takes Power
To cut through the chains Breakaway
All that you see someday will be
Lost in the shadows of time
Mountains must fall someday this all
Will be darkness where light used to shine

Turbine

The summer ends and the winter winds
Begin to holler all around the bend.
We will smile and sail away
This wont be no sadness day
When the winter winds greet the trees back there.
We can watch the turbine turning in the wind
Up on the ridge line, before the fog rolls in.
Falling leaves in the autumn air
People feeling good everywhere
When the winter winds greet the trees back there.
We can watch the turbine blowing in the wind
Up on the ridge line, before the fog rolls in.
We will smile and sail away.
This wont be no sadness day
When the winter winds greet the trees back there.

Eco-logical

'Trees need their alone time too' I read it just now
in a poem by Bob Hicok and just like that
the world expanded thoughtfully and gloriously
and I imagined the whole of nature
giving a great sigh of relief
like a dog does when it lies down for the night
and a great sigh goes from the tips of its paws
to its ears or of course it might be the other way around
and trees with that sigh get on with their nightly cleansing routine
and expel all the stuff that mankind has made them put up with
in the world that we 'share' ha ha
and then think about the poor trees in the park and the streets
who've been passive smokers all day not to mention
gas-guzzlers without the accompanying four wheels
to enable them to getoutahere into the countryside for the weekend
to **** that up too yes I'm sorry trees although I must say
you do a good job of it and with silent patience
and don't write complaining to the newpapers in a mass protest
which is just as well as those papers need more trees
so I was just almost feeling complacent that Nature
seems to be well just about keeping the whole thing
on the rails until I looked up at the tops of the tallest trees
and saw the tops dying off
and wanted right then to know if prayer would help
because what else will

and thank you Bob and I guess poetry too
for half a line that brought me to the world
and a laugh then tears.
