When Paul went to the Jew first, it was not because it seemed that Israel might yet accept Christ and His kingdom, but simply because God would leave Israel no excuse for rejecting Messiah. Paul confirmed Peter's message, and mightily contended with the Jews everywhere that 'Jesus is the Christ.' And miracles accompanied this confirmation testimony--greater miracles, indeed, than Peter himself had wrought. But, unlike Peter, Paul never offered the kingdom to Israel. His ministry among them was not to turn the nation to Christ, but to save any from among them who might believe, receiving salvation by grace, and to leave the rest without excuse. Thus God was concluding Israel in unbelief and, even at that early date, mightily using Paul to proclaim grace to the Gentiles.

Uncle Jim's Baptist Revival Hymn

By Sidney and Clifford Lanier.

[Not long ago a certain Georgia cotton-planter, driven to desperation
by awaking each morning to find that the grass had
quite outgrown the cotton overnight, and was likely to choke it,
in defiance of his lazy freedmen's hoes and ploughs,
set the whole State in a laugh by exclaiming to a group of fellow-sufferers:
"It's all stuff about Cincinnatus leaving the plough to go into politics
FOR PATRIOTISM; he was just a-runnin' from grass!"

This state of things -- when the delicate young rootlets of the cotton
are struggling against the hardier multitudes of the grass-suckers --
is universally described in plantation parlance by the phrase "in the grass";
and Uncle Jim appears to have found in it so much similarity
to the condition of his own ("Baptis'") church, overrun, as it was,
by the cares of this world, that he has embodied it in the refrain
of a revival hymn such as the colored improvisator of the South
not infrequently constructs from his daily surroundings.
He has drawn all the ideas of his stanzas from the early morning phenomena of
those critical weeks when the loud plantation-horn is blown before daylight,
in order to rouse all hands for a long day's fight against the common enemy
of cotton-planting mankind.

In addition to these exegetical commentaries, the Northern reader
probably needs to be informed that the phrase "peerten up" means substantially
`to spur up', and is an active form of the adjective "peert"
(probably a corruption of `pert'), which is so common in the South,
and which has much the signification of "smart" in New England, as e.g.,
a "peert" horse, in antithesis to a "sorry" -- i.e., poor, mean, lazy one.]

Solo. -- Sin's rooster's crowed, Ole Mahster's riz,
De sleepin'-time is pas';
Wake up dem lazy Baptissis,
Chorus. -- Dey's mightily in de grass, grass,
Dey's mightily in de grass.

Ole Mahster's blowed de mornin' horn,
He's blowed a powerful blas';
O Baptis' come, come hoe de corn,
You's mightily in de grass, grass,
You's mightily in de grass.

De Meth'dis team's done hitched; O fool,
De day's a-breakin' fas';
Gear up dat lean ole Baptis' mule,
Dey's mightily in de grass, grass,
Dey's mightily in de grass.

De workmen's few an' mons'rous slow,
De cotton's sheddin' fas';
Whoop, look, jes' look at de Baptis' row,
Hit's mightily in de grass, grass,
Hit's mightily in de grass.

De jay-bird squeal to de mockin'-bird: "Stop!
Don' gimme none o' yo' sass;
Better sing one song for de Baptis' crop,
Dey's mightily in de grass, grass,
Dey's mightily in de grass."

And de ole crow croak: "Don' work, no, no;"
But de fiel'-lark say, "Yaas, yaas,
An' I spec' you mighty glad, you debblish crow,
Dat de Baptissis's in de grass, grass,
Dat de Baptissis's in de grass!"

Lord, thunder us up to de plowin'-match,
Lord, peerten de hoein' fas',
Yea, Lord, hab mussy on de Baptis' patch,
Dey's mightily in de grass, grass,
Dey's mightily in de grass.

With A Roaring Sound Waves Crash

With a roaring sound waves crash
under Waenhuiskrans,
and they cave there
when gigantic tongues of spray
like white stars break mightily
drenching everything with deep water
like white stars,
like white stars
just before the red dawn comes.

With a roaring sound waves crash
deep out of the dark sea,
like a pack of hungry wolves
that does not give up territory
the water keeps hammering
where it knocks against hard rock,
the water keeps hammering.
the water keeps hammering
until it flows through the cave itself.

With a roaring sound waves crash,
hit battering blows
with endless power
into the folds of the rock
and caught you and I stand
where we see a spectacle
and caught
and caught
mightily the sea sweeps past.

Sent To Du Fu Below Shaqiu City

What is it that I've come to now?
High before me: Shaqiu city.
Beside the city, ancient trees;
The sunset joins the autumn sounds.
The Lu wine cannot make me drunk,
Despite Qi's songs, my feelings return.
My thoughts of you are like the Wen's waters,
Mightily sent on their southern journey.

I Am A Sinner

Friend, I’m a wicked sinner too, a fallen sinner, just like you,
But, I have been to Calvary, to the cleansing blood you see,
It is purely the Blood of Christ, which changed my sinful life,
Going to the cleansing flood, I was saved by Christ’s Blood.

Though I read the Truth before, I knew not Christ as my Lord,
Though religious I may have been, I was the victim of my sin,
Putting me at odds with God; inviting Judgment from His rod.
With no sin found in God at all, we’re alienated by Adam’s fall.

Worse than that all men must die, for the sin from Satan’s Lie.
But being a God of love, He sought man from Heaven above,
Not wanting anybody to perish, God sent One He did cherish,
God’s one and only Son Christ, this to grant all men New Life.

He came to earth with one plan; God’s salvation for sinful man,
God’s Judgment was the cost, to save a world of sinners lost.
For God’s price must be paid, and upon Him our sin God laid,
Making Him the perfect sacrifice, to pay the total of sin’s price.

I am still a sinner just like before, I accepted Christ as my Lord,
But the Blood of Jesus Christ, has given my life righteousness,
His Righteousness, not my own, to point sinners to the Throne,
So they can be forgiven too, by Him who died for me and you.

The Passion For Christ

From Pentecost, the Church was born and then God's clock began.
The centuries were there to warn, through Christ, God had a plan.
A plan to save a multitude of sinners without worth
And somehow end the foulest feud that's tainted Mother Earth.

The mighty worldwide Flood had proved God's wrath on sin and pride,
Yet in Christ's Day, God's heart was moved, when He was crucified.
He saw His Son become a lamb, a sacrifice for sin.
God humbled from the great I AM, each sinner's soul to win.

That's why the Holy Spirit calls each sinner to The Cross.
That's where each humbled sinner falls, reflecting on Christ's loss.
For here it was, that Jesus bled till life itself was done.
And then His lifeless falling head confirmed Him as God's Son.

No angel came from Heaven's Throne to rescue Him that day.
No angel came, Christ died alone to take our sins away.
Christ died alone within a crowd that cursed Him to the end.
For most were glad He'd wear a shroud, yet He was their best friend.

No greater love has man than this, no greater man than He.
For though betrayed, and with a kiss, Christ walked to Calvary.
He didn't run away from death, like cowards always do.
You see, Jesus of Nazareth was born to die for you.

He is the creator and mediator

He that could speak and things appear right there,
that reached out His hand mightily over the universe,
He is the creator and also the mediator,
He who is blinding, who makes lightning bolts lash out,
did not save Himself for me a mere human,
He fell down from God to a mere man
and how can I explain His deepest love
that He still selflessly gives to everyone?

The Song-God.

The Song-god helps me mightily, and runs
Before life's purpose like a primal power,
Spirit in sense of all that I am still;
Whose flame burns in the heart, consuming there
The growth of that desire whose grossness would
Darken a dedicated soul, until
Within a sensuous lethargy it grew
Void of the God whose utterance is all.

God the creator

There is deeper mathematic, greater science
in the composition of the universe,
in how things function in it
while mere man now days claim
that God did not create
and things do not fall to disrepair
but still man tries to understand God
as if man does not at a time perish
and can mightily stay on existing,
do know the laws and makeup of even God,
but in everything that exists
God has penned His will down,
He knows the orbits of all things
as He has created everything.
