In the period where I had to live the life of a citizen - a life where, like everybody else, I did tons of laundry and cleaned toilet bowls, changed hundreds of diapers and nursed children - I learned a lot.

Short; Silly: Ode To A Commode...Or....A Poem About Toilets
modern 'toilets' are large flushable porcelain bowls
which catch waste from both your and my exit holes.
i'm used to white ones with large flush-water tank.
a hidden pipe carries off stuff that often does smell rank.
some in japan were quite different……with no way to sit!
i'm glad i found 'my style' when t'was time to shit.
and if from toilet-paper usage you're leaning,
some toilets have the choice of an in-bowl shower, for cleaning.
toilet seats are sometimes colored, or cushioned, or even heated;
for me, more important (at times) is JUST to be SEATED!
toilets have changed since they were just holes in the ground.
i hope, when i 'need' a toilet, one's always around!

The Jesuit Father
not one child
has your name
but your name is the name
of all your students
those who learned from your teachings
that life is beautiful
that it has meaning
that it must be lived to the full
not one child
is owned by you
not one child
gives you paternal posterity
but there are hundreds of those
who call you father
those whose lives you touched
those that found a home in your class
those that learned to be one with the world
those that give glory to God
they all have become your children, father.
you have served, and loved them all.
you are their father
and they are your sons, your family.
now they are thanking you and your name
will live and linger.

Bottles And Diapers
Bottles and diapers soon I will have to have
When this baby will come
It will be a necessity for this baby
I will have to have plenty of bottles and diapers around
Because they run out fast specially the diapers
I don’t want to run out of the diapers when the baby is around
Bottles and diapers have to be around where I can reach
Bottles and diapers the baby will use it every day
Until he is a child
And when he gets to be a child
I won’t have to worry about bottles and diapers again

Roll Up Your Sleeves
You'd like to realize your dreams.
And you seek from me and others,
'Sound' advice you wish to uncover.
Take your eyes off the prize.
Try to think of it as icing on a cake,
You have yet to bake with lessons learned...
As if you want the reputation of a chef,
Not just a cook.
Roll up your sleeves.
Become familiar,
With 'everything' in the kitchen you need.
And prepare to live your life,
Totally devoted...
To delivering each meal spiced,
With 'all' ingredients that are liked.
Become fast friends with sacrifice.
And...
MAYBE 'then',
With a 'perhaps' attached...
What you dream will be recognized,
As something 'you' alone will be proud to achieve.
With a sweating done...
Some believe others for them,
Should do!
If you can go through that...
And survive!
Those dreams perceived will come true for you!
But first...
Roll up your sleeves.
And prepare to accept rejection!
If you're in it to win it...
You will whistle as you clean toilet bowls.
That's the magic of success!
Doing something you would never accept...
Or expect that you would do.
But you will do it to get what 'you' want done!
And don't be afraid to feel a bit gloomy,
When using a broom to sweep up a room.

You Have Not Yet Learned to Survive
You have not yet learned to survive.
I've heard you make excuses for it.
As you sit in the comfort of your parents' home.
Who provide amenities,
You use and they condone.
You have not yet learned to survive.
I listen to you pass your judgements,
On my appearance and how I dress.
And how I live alone,
Without complaints of being stressed.
And every bill I pay...
I do that on my own.
And that stress factor?
I have no reason to make that known.
You have not yet learned to survive.
You say you raise children?
Who are more with your folks than they are with you.
I have yet to see you do that by yourself.
Without complaining you have no social life left.
And you say your folks are always in your business.
If you stayed away and took care of it,
No one but you would know what that business is.
But you like to announce you have no life and two kids!
And then you tell me,
I don't know what life is about?
I don't know what it is to sacrifice?
Since I have it made living alone,
With no creditors ringing my phone!
And I am always at home I never go out!
Where 'is' your mind?
At Six Flags?
Or DisneyWorld?
Which one is it?
You have not yet learned to survive.
Not if you are relying on others,
To keep your lifestyle alive!
And I know you want to keep your 'lifestyle' alive!
Along with your siblings!
Who bring 'their' children...
For stops at mom and pop's.
To leave and come back when they please!

She's Out Of My Life
She's out of my life
She's out of my life
And I don't know whether to laugh or cry
I don't know whether to live or die
And it cuts like a knife
She's out of my life
It's out of my hands
It's out of my hands
To think for two years she was here
And I took her for granted I was so cavalier
Now the way that it stands
She's out of my hands
So I've learned that love's not possession
And I've learned that love won't wait
Now I've learned that love needs expression
But I learned too late
She's out of my life
She's out of my life
Damned indecision and cursed pride
Kept my love for her locked deep inside
And it cuts like a knife
She's out of my life

It’s No Fun Going To The Toilet
it’s no fun, dearest friends,
going to the toilet
with your entrails full
and at zero hour
and rushing to the toilet
and finding every cubicle shut in your face
and you run to the next
and there are grunting pigs
behind closed doors
and you are truly full,
and you know you are in big trouble
and there is not even a discreet bush corner
in the god-forsaken damned city;
and you are walking up and down outside the doors
like an irate Principal at a school assembly;
it’s really no fun
putting yourself through such agony
to put yourself on such public display
going to public toilets
when you could have cleared all
and achieved dignity
with proper timing
and good though boring habits
it’s no fun, really -
dearest friends,
hastening to the toilet
when your pipe is nearly at bursting point
and you rush in to the toilet
and though lucky enough
to find an enclosure
it’s really no fun, is it? -
all that hurry and urgency
at near bursting point
as you pow-wow before the toilet bowl
and your buckle is stubborn
and you plead to your private self:
O no, no…don’t burst…not yet…
and your damned zip gets stuck just then
and you continue your war dance
and you plead to your intimate self:
O no, no…don’t burst…not yet…not yet, please;
please don’t do this to me-self –
and just then the zip comes asunder
and you pull it down like thunder
and oh, what a relief, no doubt –
but it certainly was no fun
going there to the toilet at near-breaking point;
and how are you going to face the world
with your zip burst
and your buckle broken and hanging over now?
oh, so, dearest friends,
trust me
(no wisecracks here, please)
oh all you children of the earth
all infants and old
and the genteel and the virile
and the incontinent
and the humble and those with golden toilet bowls –
it’s never fun to rush in to the toilet
at near breaking or bursting point;
and though good routine
and roughage may never be fun either
it’s safer than trusting in City Councils that
do not plan for citizens at bursting point…

Navigator
The canals and the bridges, the embankments and cuts,
They blasted and dug with their sweat and their guts
They never drank water but whiskey by pints
And the shanty towns rang with their songs and their fights.
Navigator, navigator rise up and be strong
The morning is here and theres work to be done.
Take your pick and your shovel and the bold dynamite
For to shift a few tons of this earthly delight
Yes to shift a few tons of this earthly delight.
They died in their hundreds with no sign to mark where
Save the brass in the pocket of the entrepreneur.
By landslide and rockblast they got buried so deep
That in death if not life theyll have peace while they sleep.
Navigator, navigator rise up and be strong
The morning is here and theres work to be done.
Take your pick and your shovel and the bold dynamite
For to shift a few tons of this earthly delight
Yes to shift a few tons of this earthly delight.
Their mark on this land is still seen and still laid
The way for a commerce where vast fortunes were made
The supply of an empire where the sun never set
Which is now deep in darkness, but the railways there yet.
Navigator, navigator rise up and be strong
The morning is here and theres work to be done.
Take your pick and your shovel and the bold dynamite
For to shift a few tons of this earthly delight
Yes to shift a few tons of this earthly delight.

Loneliness Is A Hurting Thing
once my heart was full of joy as i grew up from a baby boy.
i learned to love and i learned to hate.
i learned to sit and contemplate.
i learned the abc's of right and wrong.
i learned to fight and become big and strong.
i was taught by my elders or so it seemed
all about life and what it means.
the one thing that they could not teach-for they had not
gotten to reach-that time of life when you're old and gray.
and it seems that life has slipped away
they had gone through life's hall of fame
joys and sorrows they all have gained.
life has only two guarantees-age and death or so it seems.
they go through life and children they bear
to find when they're old 'that kids don't care.
now if you listen while they pray-'you will hear a small voice say'
oh lord take me away-please don't let me live another day.
this loneliness i cannot bear! i have no one with whom
i could share-the joys and fulfillments of yesteryear.
'oh dear god is this to be-not even any company.
no one to speak to -no one to hold
no one to call my very own.
when you reach that golden age, you become
like an animal in a gilded cage.
you pace the floor from wall to wall
wondering if you have the gall.
to start your life all anew and try to forget your solitude.
yes my friends-i'll tell you now loneliness is a heavy crown.
i'll tell you this'my children beware' age and death are very near.
when you stop and turn around-another step you have found.
with life there is no turning back
no one to help pick up the slack.
with pride and determination you move along
head held high-eyes are strong.
to face the challenge of what is to be.
loneliness and hearthaches must comfort me.

First Year University Expereinces
I learned why it is not wise to skip class often
I learned that skipping homework in university is not the same as skipping homework in high school
I learned what it feels like to be awake for over 2 days
I learned how to smoke pot from a bong
I learned how to compose an essay the day before it's due
I learned that the Freshman 15 is no joke
I learned how to do laundry
I learned to pretend to be happy
I learned to multitask
I learned to be more sociable
I learned why my parents and teachers warned me about the difficulty of university
I learned that failing is expensive
I learned small things, like freshly washed bed sheets, make me happy
I learned to lie
I learned how expensive alcohol is
I learned what it feels like to be a failure
I type this rant while skipping my business ethics class as I further delay the composition of my psychology term paper

Seen Cleaned and Fed
It is not difficult to leave behind,
Those who do not mentally or spiritually grow.
When one in a higher state of consciousness,
Arrives to that mindset...
It is not a fashion statement made.
Nor a fad to fade when it is replaced.
When a process of growth is progressed...
A change occurs.
Similar to that which is recognized,
Between children wearing diapers.
And adults who wear them too!
Literally and figuratively!
It's in the observation,
That something has leaped...
In both understanding and maturity.
One seeks to cling.
The other wishes to be seen cleaned and fed.

In the life of children there are two very clear-cut phases, before and after puberty. Before puberty the child's personality has not yet formed and it is easier to guide its life and make it acquire specific habits of order, discipline, and work after puberty the personality develops impetuously and all extraneous intervention becomes odious, tyrannical, insufferable. Now it so happens that parents feel the responsibility towards their children precisely during this second period, when it is too late then of course the stick and violence enter the scene and yield very few results indeed. Why not instead take an interest in the child during the first period

You Changed My Life
You changed my life
Came along in a time of strife
In hunger and need
You made my heart bleed
You changed my life
You changed my life
Now the nature of man
Is to beg and to steal
Id do it myself
Its not so unreal
The call of the wilds
Forever at my door
Want me to fly like an eagle
Being chained to the floor, but
You changed my life
Came along in a time of strife
In hunger and need
You made my heart bleed
You changed my life
You changed my life
Eating with the pigs
Off a fancy tray
I was bold, I was looking good
And to have a nice day
It all seemed so proper
And so elite
Eating absolute garbage
While being so discreet.
You changed my life
Came along in a time of strife
In hunger and need
You made my heart bleed
You changed my life
You changed my life
You were glowing in the light
Being peaceably calm
Well, how often does a man dance
To the beat of the balm?
Your eyes were on fire
Your feet were of brass
In a world that you made
You were an outcast
You changed my life
Came along in a time of strife
In hunger and need
You made my heart bleed
You changed my life
You changed my life
Truce makers and partakers
Of every selfish whim
Her running to meet me running to her
And you running back to him
Their destruction of my confidence
Was like a sharpness of the tongue
I said: make my faith greater
But I was a little high strung
You changed my life
Came along in a time of strife
In hunger and need
You made my heart bleed
You changed my life
You changed my life

The visit
Cousin Salud, this visit is brief
We would rather be concise about what we really want to say
But there is no way to be blunt
About our common miseries, your children not bearing any
Children while we too, have survived the years without
Knowing how a baby cries, how the diapers would have to be
Changed, how we blamed our past and forefathers about their mistakes their sins imputed to us
So we have our present state-of-affairs
Pasted on our skins and foreheads
I’ll take a bottle of beer in exchange for the joke
Of infertilities, how the egg and the sperm never meet
And how the uterus does not want any organism to sleep
On its bed, well we do not really mind
The misery that we think we have
It exists only in your mind
This visit will be brief and we would rather be concise
With what we really want to say
We are not miserable, we live the life of the sojourners
The palmers the pilgrims we travel a lot with nothing to carry
In our back, except this digital camera that clicks and clicks
You see, we always wear our smiling faces
Behind us are the shadows of green hills
On the side are the blue seas and coconut trees
If you can only see what is facing us
You will be glad
They are our friends cheering us telling us always
To smile and say Cheez!

Model Citizen
Be an Arab
Be a Jew
Be a boxing
Kangaroo
Beat yourself
All black and blue
I don't care
Be a bleeder
Be a Cancer
A hemophiliac
Romancer
Be a crippled disco
Dancer
Oooh... What a pair
He's a model citizen
I think I've got them fooled them again
He's an ultra-sweety guy
And a master of disguise
He's a model citizen
Just keep believing that my friends
I'm a model citizen
I'm a model citizen
I'm a model citizen
I'm a model citizen
I'm an all American!!!
I'm a hostage
In a city of creeps
They've got mercenary guards
That watch me sleep
They'd like to kill me slow
Bury me deep
In the heart of Texas
I'm a martyr
I'm a sadist
I might be the Saviour here to save us
I'm a friend of Sammy Davis, casually
He's a model citizen
I think I've got them fooled again
He's an ultra-sweety guy
I won't let down my disguise
He's a model citizen
Just keep believing that my friends
I'm a model citizen
I'm a model citizen
I'm a model citizen
I'm a model citizen
I'm an all American
I'm a model citizen
I'm a model citizen
I'm a model citizen
I'm an all American

Greatest Satisfaction
Life gives us many opportunities to live
Happily if we can learn to live
Others happiness that they deserve
With tons of care, joy and love
And when we give all these things
To others then the joy it brings
Give us greatest satisfaction of all
In every deed of kindness big or small
So to gain joy what we must do
Is to give happiness to others too
And give others the joy they deserve
With the gift of tons of care and love.

Children?
Children are the easily led,
Their learning is profound,
Their lift is happy and proud,
Why do parents forgive them?
We produce the fellow children
To lift and uplift each of us
When there happens a life.
Children need growth to boast,
To live and outlive, to death is their journey
After a life of straightforward happiness and bliss.
Felt good? Why children? Because, say Children,
We live among others who are like the mothers
In the land we call Children.
Child after child shall learn of the existing ones
That need admirals and generals of late.
The defence of a child is the greatest concern,
And I laugh at one who destroys life,
Ever in turmoil is a child because of this act.
Children will be enough to be today.
Children can upset no one who is old and ancient,
Selfless students are children.
However much you push and pull at the threads that children weave
And sort, and spread, and sew,
The adult will sew better and more often than a child.
That is the secret, children.
