Gertrude Stein is interviewed on American poetry

and there was the knocking on the door
that we were expecting
and it was the man
that we were expecting
with the questions we were expecting
to which answers were expected
by those who expect answers
as if life were like that
which for writers it is not

yes, tea was drunk
and after tea the tape recorder set up
so that what I said
I would continue to say
somewhere else
even when I changed my mind
here and nowhere else

and he said Ms Stein
what do you think of American poetry
and we said well it's American
and it's poetry
that's as it should be
and really that's all there is to say
and the man looked disappointed
so we asked him did he read poetry
and he said poetry no I dont read poetry
but my editor does
so I said it's really about Americans
living their lives
that's what American poetry is really about
because Americans move around
and so their words move around and
words in English have lost their intensity
but American words are always on the move
and they are more intense
yes, Americans living among Americans
and talking to their neighbours
if it's not about that
it's not really American poetry at all is it
if it's not about that
then why bother writing poetry

and the man was asking about a rose
being a rose being a rose and we said
for a hundred years the rose
has not been red in poetry
but now for the first time in a hundred years
the rose is red again

and the man looked at his watch
and said thank you Ms Stein
and was switching off his tape recorder

and a month later that
was what we said
in a magazine much read
by Americans who mostly
are not poets no very few but we said it
we know that this is so
because we read it there
and we think that really
that was all there was to say
because that was all we think
is really important
about American Poetry
that the words move like Americans move
and that is exciting for a writer
and that is the important thing about
American Poetry

Bible Stories: Ruth (Part Ib)

Her daughters-in-law wept aloud;
Orpah kissed her mother-in-law
And left towards her mother’s house;
Ruth, howev’r clung to Naomi!

Although Naomi advised her,
Ruth refused to leave, like Orpah;
Ruth told her not to compel her;
She loved to follow Naomi;
She’d stay wherever, she would stay;
Her God and people would be hers!

She was ready to die with her,
And be buried, where she would be;
She did not care if worse things came;
She wouldn’t desert her, until death!
When Naomi saw Ruth was firm,
She didn’t dissuade her thereafter!

They both entered Bethlehem town;
Seeing them, the city got stirred;
They asked if she was Noami.
“Call me Mara, Naomi wept!
The Lord has been bitter to me.”

“I went out full but come empty.
The Lord has afflicted me now.”
Thus, Naomi with Ruth returned
From Moab to Bethlehem town,
When barley harvest had begun!

Celebrate Me Home

Home for the holidays,
I believe Ive missed each and every face,
Come on and play my music,
Lets turn on the love light in the place
Its time I found myself,
Totally surrounded in your circles
Whoa, my friends
Please, celebrate me home,
Give me a number,
Please, celebrate me home
Play me one more song,
That Ill always remember,
And I can recall,
Whenever I find myself too all alone,
I can sing me home.
Uneasy highway,
Traveling where the westerly winds can fly,
Somebody tried to tell me,
But the men forgot to tell me why,
I gotta count on being gone,
Come on woman, come on daddy,
Be what you want from me,
Im this strong, Ill be weak
Please, celebrate me home,
Give me a number,
Please, celebrate me home
Play me one more song,
That Ill always remember,
I can recall,
Whenever I find myself too all alone,
I can make believe Ive never gone,
I never know where I belong,
Sing me home.
Please, celebrate me home,
Give me a number,
Please, celebrate me home
Play me one more song,
Celebrate, celebrate
Celebrate, celebrate
Celebrate, celebrate
Celebrate me home
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Well Im finally here,
But Im bound to roam,
Come on celebrate me home
Well Im finally here,
But Im bound to roam,
Come on celebrate me home
Well Im finally here,
But Im bound to roam,
Come on celebrate me home
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
Please, celebrate me home,
(fade)

Bible Stories: Ruth (Part II)

A man of wealth great was Boaz-
A kinsman of Elimelech,
The (dead) husband of Naomi.

Ruth asked Naomi to permit
Her glean among the ears of grain
In rich Boaz’s field that day;
Naomi told her to do so.

Young Ruth began to glean the ears
After the reapers, in the field
Of rich Boaz, from morn that day;

From Bethlehem, then Boaz came
And told the reapers all that day,
‘May Lord, our God be with you all.’
And they replied, ‘May He bless you! ’

Boaz then asked his servant nigh,
‘Who is that young woman that gleans? ’
The servant said, ‘A Moabite
With Naomi, from Moab-land.’

Ruth begged Boaz, ‘Please let me glean
And gather grain after reapers! ’
Boaz told Ruth, ‘You may do so,
But venture not into next field.’

She could stay on with his maids there.
He told the servants, ‘Don’t touch her.’
If thirsty, drink from water-jars
Or from what servants shall too draw.

Ruth fell upon her face on ground
And bowed and asked, ‘Is it because
She was a foreigner, she found
Good favor in Boaz’s sight? ’

To this, Boaz replied to her,
‘I am aware of all you’ve done
For your mother-in-law after
Your husband died and how you’d left
Your parents and your place of birth
To people whom you never knew.’

‘May Lord, the God of Israel then
(Under whose wings, you take refuge)
Reward your work that looks so great
And pay wages in accordance.’

To this Ruth said, ‘I’ve found favor
In your sight, lord, indeed so well.
I thank you for your kind words said,
Although I’m not akin your maids! ’

At mealtime Boaz said to Ruth,
‘Come, dip your bread in vinegar,
And served her roasted grains with all.
Ruth ate and seemed so satisfied.

When she arose to glean once more,
Boaz commanded that she glean
Even among the sheaves this time,
And no one was to insult her.

He told them to pull out grain-ears
From sheaves and dropp them purposely,
Allowing Ruth to glean freely,
And no one was to rebuke her!

Until that evening, Ruth had gleaned;
She beat the ears to gather grain;
It was an ephah of barley!
She took the grain into the town
And showed it all to Naomi
Who appeared very satisfied.

Her mother-in-law then asked her,
‘Where did you glean today and work?
May God bless him who favored you! ’
Ruth told her his name was Boaz!

Naomi told, God is so kind
To both the living and the dead.
May God bless Boaz specially
She told, ‘He’s our close relative! ’

Ruth told all that Boaz had said;
Naomi felt so happy that
Ruth had been asked to glean again,
Until the barley harvest ends.
Ruth did as Boaz instructed
And lived with her mother-in-law!

Lifetime

Cry now, but smile for a lifetime
Mourn this hour but celebrate the years
Memories will be sunny and words bring smiles
Through the tears.
The afternoons of summer, the evening's winter frost
Relationships grow number it's how we pay the cost
But then the times you shared
The sketch book in your soul
Will show that you both cared
Before time took its toll.
So celebrate a lifetime
The pain will bring some doubt
But remember lovelight flicker
When candlelight goes out.
Together in the world that teaches smile and kill
Together now in spirit
The union closer still
The guilt that we all feel
Devoid of hug and kiss
Shows us our love is real
When each other now we miss.
So celebrate this lifetime
Remember how it was
Let sadness not overwhelm you
You see people, it's because
Love will sting you deep
Some hearts they seem so hard
But then they start to weep
As emotion drops their guard.

Great Women - Young and Old

The lights of Bethlehem still burn,
For Ruth’s mother-in-law to return.

Since her unfettered faith, so strong,
Convinced Ruth, with her, to come along.

Facing bravely the consequences of God’s plan,
Ruth, with Naomi, went to the Promised Land.

To live on in Bethlehem was their decision,
Both seeking to receive God’s provision.

God doesn’t stop being God in adversity
Is what Naomi taught Ruth to believe.

So there in Bethlehem, Ruth sought for a man
To help her with the consequences of God’s plan.

And Boaz of Bethlehem, Naomi’s rich kinsman,
Found Ruth to be both charming and winsome.

So he shared with Ruth the bounty of his field,
When he learned her faith, though foreign, was real.

Thus they became one with the grace of God’s will
And with a prophecy of God their duty to fulfill.

Ruth’s faith in Naomi’s God found reinforcement
While lovelorn Naomi was freed of her resentment.

God’s will it was to give Ruth and Boaz a boy,
And for Naomi to restore her spiritual joy.

For Americans war is almost all of the time a nuisance, and military skill is a luxury like Mah-Jongg. But when the issue is brought home to them, war becomes as important, for the necessary period, as business or sport. And it is hard to decide which is likely to be the more ominous for the Axis -- an American decision that this is sport, or that it is business.

Celebrate

Refrain
Celebrate
Every night and day
Celebrate
Never runaway
Celebrate
Wake up its not a dream
Its never too late
This life is for free
When youve got the key
To reality
Lets celebrate
All the dreams come true
Just for me and you
Lets celebrate
C-Teil:
Be yourself and youll see
The best things in your life are free
Dont give up, stay alive
Honesty can make you survive
Rap 1:
Can you see all these people
Walking through the streets of life
Without a smile in their faces
how can they survive
Its a dangerous world they are living in
Between imaginations and expectations on their way
To the point of no return
They only live once and have to learn, your
Life is too brief to waste time for hate
Its never too late to celebrate
Rap 2:
Reality, is what theyre looking for
Love is what they all adore
Feeling like a bird in a cage
covered by a curtain flying into a rage reaching
The point of no return
Let it burn, let it burn
They only live once and they have to learn, your
Life is too brief to waste time for hate
Its never too late to celebrate

Happy Fourth Of July

Today is your independence day,
the fourth of July.
The English and Americans
were not always friends and allies
as we are today.
If we travel back in time,
we were at war with one another
over a hundred years ago.
You won and we lost;
now you celebrate today
the fourth of July
for the independence you earned.
Now this may sound strange
coming from an Englishman.
Be proud of your Country,
as I am proud of mine.
May we always stand together
in any future troubled time.

It is strange
in over a hundred years
how we all have changed.
Be proud, Walk tall
and value your land.
Value your people
whatever race or creed,
for these mixture of people
make your country strong.
You fought hard
for your independence,
even went through a civil war.
Respect your values
and hold your head up high.
This is your day to celebrate,
and this why I write this poem
to say a sincere Happy Independence Day
to all of you.

Life Is A Celebration

I was lost on a winding road
I thought that life had nothing left to give
Then you came and showed me that just to live
Was the greatest gift of all
And you showed me
Life is a celebration
And lord, Im gonna celebrate
Dont you know that life is a celebration
So come on now and celebrate, celebrate
Life is a celebration
Look its a revelation
So celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
How could I have been so blind?
Just to think that we were living to die
Then you came along and I was no longer alone
And you lead me to the light
And you showed me
Life is a celebration
And lord, Im gonna celebrate
Dont you know that life is a celebration
So come on now and celebrate, celebrate
Life is a celebration
Look its a revelation
So celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
And you showed me life is a celebration
And lord, Im gonna celebrate
Dont you know that life is a celebration
So come on now and celebrate, celebrate

Arabian Questions That Must Be Asked

They say that the mosque is being built
To promote American/ Arab ties
But you know that’s all a lie.
If you want to heal the American wound
Move it away- it’s much too soon.

You are adding insult to injury
That is something I can not see.
You say that the burning of the koran
Is disrespectful to the Arab world.

Well! How do you think that America feels
When our rights you are trying to steal.
We have the right to protect something
That is sacred to us.
So in your decision we’ll put GODS trust.

We must both ask ourselves some questions
Before you make that decision.

How can the Arab nations build a mosque
In the area of devastation?
What if Americans did something to your
Mosque in retaliation?

Or is it that you want the u.s. citizens to retaliate
So you can say that it is fate?
What is it that you have planned
That you’re determined to take this stand?

Are you going to build the mosque
To blow it up yourselves and blame the u.s.
To get support from other Arab nations?
These are questions that we must ask
Before you start on that task.
“GOD” no matter what he may be called
Is in us one and all.
Let us all stand up for one another
Let us really become sister and brother.
Let us stand up to hunger, poverty, and hate
Let us stand up before it’s too late.
Let us stand up for 9/11
So that all the world can see
That this will live throughout history.

Build your mosque if you must
But let us keep the memory
Of where the twin towers used to be.

Put your mosque far enough away
Where Americans can go to pray
And honor the ones who died that day.

Pass a smile

I smile when I am shy
I smile when I want to cry

I smile when I am sad
I smile, when I just go mad

I smile when I am envious
I smile when I am very jealous

I smile when I am happy
I smile when I feel shaky

I smile when I am emotional
I also smile when I act abnormal

I smile when I am overloaded
I smile when I miss my beloved

I smile when I think something
I smile when I think just nothing

Do you know why I am smiling? When I smile at you?
Dear friend, I think it’s a very tough question I asked you! !

Never mind whatever be the reason behind my smile,
Dear, just pass me a smile, at least I feel good for a while

Philadelphia Revised

The sad images of Philadelphia popped out of my eyes today
And I could see the streets of Philadelphia where the homeless sleeps
And freeze to death
While Politicians, doctors, Dentists, lawyers, teachers, and nurses get rich
Day by day
But the homeless freeze to death in the streets of Philadelphia and even die
But I have to ask all of you fellow americans where is your heart?
And doesn't charity starts at home first?
Don't you have anything at home that you could give away to the Homeless so they could have something either to wear or to eat?
Why can't we feed the homeless?
I can't understand you fellow Americans?
Please put yourself in their shoes for a day and try to picture what do they Have to go throw everyday
Is it right for the homeless to sleep in the streets and freeze and eventualy Die in the streets of Philadelphia?
Would you fellow Americans go few days without eating?
I don't think so
Why should the homeless that lives in the streets of Philadelphia starve?
Fellow Americans it is time to think about others and not just yourself Because others live In America just like you
Fellow Americans do you have a heart?
Fellow Americans did you ever learned to share what you have with Others?
Fellow Americans America is a sad world because we waste 98% of our Food at home, restaurants, and supermarkets
And all that wasted food ends up in the dump
It is so ashame and so sad at the same time
But the truth is that we are running out of food
And there is not enough food to feed anyone in America
But the cost of food keeps going up
Because we have to pay the American farmers who plants the food and Transport the food to the supermarkets
