Our theme for this year's festivities, Dreams and Challenges of Asian Pacific Americans, speaks to the many generations of Asian Pacific Americans who worked hard to overcome economic hardship, racism and other barriers in their pursuit of the American dream.

But, yeah, as far as Asian Americans go, I hope they know they can look at me and see that they can do music on their own, within a band or just on their own, and not feel like there's any barriers. I've never felt any particular barriers myself, being who I am.

It seems that American patriotism measures itself against an outcast group. The right Americans are the right Americans because they're not like the wrong Americans, who are not really Americans.

Asian

Asian this.
Asian that.
Being Asian taking the front seat.
After being in the back!

And I am glad!
I've been 'aging' for years...
And finally...
We are getting some attention!

'I believe the topic is the economy! '

Exactly!
That's my point.
I'm on a fixed budget!

Dedicated To:
All my Asian brothers and sisters.
I respect your gifts, brilliance...
and devotion to humanity.
One Love! '

It's not like that often, I mean, I suppose out of a ratio of 10 fans maybe like 1 or 2 of 'em might be Asian, and maybe every second or third time they might bring up something that they're Asian and I'm Asian.

End Racism

The eyes of hate stares down at you
with so much dispproval and it makes you
feel uncomfortible and unwelcome,

Racism is major and it has to STOP
its like you want afican americans to
be ashamed to dislike their color because
you dislike it.

Unlike other people who are
afaid to stand up for whats right
im PROUD to be a young black women.

Racism has been going on since 1955 and longer,

Does anyone care about how racism affects alot of people
and, how is brings some of us down as Afican Americans,

As Afican Americans walk down the street all you hear and see is people of other races throwing the N' word at them and fingering them.
it hurts sometimes to see people disapproval of black people but like my mom always told me what doesnt kill you, makes you stronger.

Its time for a change....

END RACISM

Ancestor worship, or filial piety so characteristic of Asian cultures, for example, does not really resonate with Americans who favor children, not grandparents.

The Pacific Age

The pacific age
Is growing strong
Its arms embrace witth a killing grace
It shakes your hand as it takes your place
The modern age
Like a slow revenge
A wave that breaks over distant shores
It begs for mercy
And it take some more and more and more
The pacific age
Comes down like rain
Washing over us again and again
Its spreading west
Like a speeding train
As the wheels slow down and we lose the game
The pacific age
Tells no lies
A dream that calls like an open door
It keeps you hoping
And it takes some more and more and more
The pacific age
Comes down like rain
Washing over us again and again
Its spreading west
Like a speeding train
As the wheels slow down and we lose the game
The pacific age
Comes down like rain
Washing over us again and again
Its spreading west
Like a speeding train
As the wheels slow down and we lose the game
The pacific age
Has no regrets
It feeds on dreams
It wins its bets
A new dawn breaks from east to west
And the plans we made stop making sense
The pacific age
It calls your name
It bites you hand, you feel no pain
And racing home. you run in vane
As your heart slows down and you lose the game

Gertrude Stein is interviewed on American poetry

and there was the knocking on the door
that we were expecting
and it was the man
that we were expecting
with the questions we were expecting
to which answers were expected
by those who expect answers
as if life were like that
which for writers it is not

yes, tea was drunk
and after tea the tape recorder set up
so that what I said
I would continue to say
somewhere else
even when I changed my mind
here and nowhere else

and he said Ms Stein
what do you think of American poetry
and we said well it's American
and it's poetry
that's as it should be
and really that's all there is to say
and the man looked disappointed
so we asked him did he read poetry
and he said poetry no I dont read poetry
but my editor does
so I said it's really about Americans
living their lives
that's what American poetry is really about
because Americans move around
and so their words move around and
words in English have lost their intensity
but American words are always on the move
and they are more intense
yes, Americans living among Americans
and talking to their neighbours
if it's not about that
it's not really American poetry at all is it
if it's not about that
then why bother writing poetry

and the man was asking about a rose
being a rose being a rose and we said
for a hundred years the rose
has not been red in poetry
but now for the first time in a hundred years
the rose is red again

and the man looked at his watch
and said thank you Ms Stein
and was switching off his tape recorder

and a month later that
was what we said
in a magazine much read
by Americans who mostly
are not poets no very few but we said it
we know that this is so
because we read it there
and we think that really
that was all there was to say
because that was all we think
is really important
about American Poetry
that the words move like Americans move
and that is exciting for a writer
and that is the important thing about
American Poetry

Asian Rut

Day oh so late
Strangely the sun still shone
Ooh asian boy
What are you on ?
Day oh so late
Strangely the sun still shone
Oh asian boy
What are drugs are you on ?
Oh... strange
Tooled-up asian boy
Has come to take revenge
For the cruel, cold killing
Of his very best friend
Tooled-up asian boy
Has come to avenge
The cruel, cold killing
Of his only friend
Ha! la, la, la, oh ...
Theres peace through our school
Its so quiet in the hall
Its a strange sign for one
Of whats to come
Tough and cold and pale
Oh, they may just impale you on railings
Oh, english boys
It must be wrong
Three against one ?
Oh ...
Brakes slammed, and
His gun jammed, and
As far as I could tell
Brave asian boy
Was dealt a blow and fell
Im just passing through here
On my way to somewhere civilised
And maybe Ill even arrive
Maybe Ill even arrive

Upton’s Response, an American Public Education Reminder

(During the Final Question round, (for Miss America '07) , Aimee Teegarden asked Miss South Carolina, Lauren Caitlin Upton, why she thought a fifth of Americans are unable to locate the United States on a world map. Upton's response was :)

'I personally believe that, ----Upton's response
(In the hat there was cat) , ---- the author's comment

U.S. Americans are unable to do so,
(… a deer a female deer a Do)

because some… people out there in our nation that don’t have maps,
(I like to take naps)

and I believe that our education,
(how did she ever get out high scool. Iz it just my imajinashin?)

like such as in South Africa and the Iraq,
(could it be next year she will be voting like for Barak?)

everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should…
(She’d past a test, for 1st graders, if she could.)

our education over here in the U.S., should help the U.S., er,
(forget her)

should help South Africa and should help the Iraq
(she’s liable to be parent someday, is frightening and her education is lack.)

and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future..,
(She’ll look back on what she had said when she is more mature.)

for our children... '
(I hope to God she matures more quickly, not how but when.)

Need more be said?
