Well, we've made huge strides since the 1990 World Cup, USA '94, and obviously since '98. Unfortunately, those strides only register with the public once every four years.

True Aussie Racism
There once was a young, male recruit,
he was smart rather tall, also cute.
At the first interview
he was told: 'It is true,
your credentials, they really compute.
But a test is still needed to know
if enforcement can give you a go.
Shoot five Abos today
and three beards as they pray
and a rabbit by means of crossbow.'
'I shall do, Captain, just as you say.
Right this moment I'll be on my way.
May I ask why the hare? '
'Well, your question is fair
you can start in your job straightaway.'
Note: Huge strides have been made in Australian society to overcome racism. Huge strides are needed still.

While women certainly have made great strides toward pay parity in the past 30 years, there is still a gap in earnings between men and women in equivalent professions.

Our people can draw on the tremendous strides made in recent years, not only in terms of advancing themselves spiritually and materially, but also in having weathered social and economic turbulence, triggered, in the main, by factors not of their own creation.

Wherever Destiny Falls
(after Hannah Szenes)
One two three and we part
a few strides taken in the dark
and the smell of making love is still strong
and our feelings remain a question mark.
One two three and tomorrow you may see me
not as a lover, or even a friend,
but might be my enemy
and in a week or two I might not still be here
and life is sometimes great, sometimes fair,
sometimes the dice rolls
when it’s cast to another side,
and the end I feel is quite near
and what you mean to me, doesn’t count,
does not matter at all,
what matters most is in the balance
and when the dice falls, you are lost
while the game of life is still on
and for some going strong
while I am trying to play again
somewhere else
and one two three and we part
a few strides taken in the dark
and the smell of making love is still strong
somewhat like new rain on the earth
and I am still gambling and I may be right,
I might be wrong
and we embark on where destiny falls,
rather than on what matters most.
[Reference: The last poem of Hannah Szenes:
:
“One - two - three... eight feet long
Two strides across, the rest is dark...
Life is a fleeting question mark
One - two - three... maybe another week.
Or the next month may still find me here,
But death, I feel is very near.
I could have been 23 next July
I gambled on what mattered most, the dice were cast. I lost. “]

Wild West Poems
Noon
2 tall gunmen walking slowly towards each other down Mathew St.
And then he grabbed her (for Leiber/Stoller and the Coasters)
And then
He tied her up
And then
He lit the fuse to the dynamite
And then
And then
AND THEN
ALONG CAME JONES . .
William H. Bonney alias Billy the Kid hitches his horse to a parking meter strides through the swing doors into Yates Wine Lodge. Barmaids slowly back away from the counter. Drunks rush out into Charlotte Street. He drinks a glass of Aussie White and strides out, silent as he came.

Into Themselves
People into themselves,
Live lives delusioned to fantasize.
And they are distracted by facts,
With a hope one day...
A reality they wish to inflict,
Will not restrict with obstacles...
That affect their strides.
It becomes increasingly difficult,
To support and defend...
Those like them.
They are not molded with backbone,
Another could depend.
Fence sitters undecided,
With a self esteem dismissed.
Often are destructive to progress...
With a delaying of it.
And direct they are not.
Deceivers they tend to be.
With a seeking of attention...
To stop a process intended,
That will expose their activity...
Lacking in accountability!
People into themselves,
Live lives delusioned to fantasize.
And they are distracted by facts,
With a hope one day...
A reality they wish to inflict,
Will not restrict with obstacles...
That affect their strides.
Or the need they have to embellish,
From the shadows where they hide.

Striking up with a Cat
a cat - stripes yellowish back - walked past me
at the condominium some days ago
as i was waiting for my lift
he practically brought the house down
with his confident and assuring strides
he walked practically like a king - so proudly and
unfearful that it inspired courage -
how i wish i could do the same
brimming with admiration
i could not help calling out 'meow'
to the cat when it was feet away
and astutely came straight and lay herself down
like a pack of cards,
turning its front paws up
to welcome me to the warmth
in its furry paradise
i swam my feet over
the lithe and buoyant frame
as my elevated blood pressure
did not allow me to bend down to it -
how frustrated i was to miss
the good chance to have good time with this
fall-in-love-at-first-sight beloved animal
a woman who walked into
this red letter encounter
between us gave a marvelled look
before making her way to the lift
how affectionate animals can be
though our intelligence can be miles apart
how easily we can bond if
we care to bare our hearts out to each other,
she must have thought
we walked into the lift with the cat
still sprawled on the foor
i have been looking for
the same cat but it has yet
to make its much waited upon
kingly strides that have made
their way with triumph into my heart

Uniformed Determination
A baton held high...
With a pride one strides,
But reluctant to pass on.
Loses an influence that could cement,
Long lasting sentiments with purpose and identity.
If a significance is recognized with the pride one strides,
With a leadership that includes discipline inflicted.
And a reason to keep one's dignity persisted.
From thoughtlessly being pushed aside...
To accomodate misunderstandings instead of comprehension.
Is a clue delivered that is more than hinted!
And can not be denied as sighted!
This...
Has to be understood and disgested.
Eventually.
Without the ignorance of protest.
Yes!
And not left to leave anyone perceiving,
There is no depth with the image given.
Or a process involved without meaning...
In this intentional parade free of schemes.
A precision is noticed and captures...
Much more than the attracting of attention.
A uniformed determination is present!
And enraptures spectators,
Awed and shocked.
There is nothing for them to joke about or mock.
With jaws dropped they are forced to watch.

I made my mistakes, but in all my years of public life, I have never profited from public service. I've earned every cent. And in all of my years in public life I have never obstructed justice. And I think, too, that I can say that in my years of public life that I welcome this kind of examination because people have got to know whether or not their President is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook. I've earned everything I've got.

Those Who Laughed With Time To Waste
I never sought to be taken for a fool.
But there were those foolish enough,
Not to believe I was serious.
And perhaps that seriousness,
Had been misinterpreted.
And I have never elected,
To see them in that way.
Anyone making attempts,
To express their gifts and talents...
With intent,
Gained my respect.
Since I knew what that took.
I knew too well what that meant.
With those comments made by some and done,
And time that has come many have tried to shun...
I still have not been the one to evaluate.
A progress made.
However...
Few I knew have made great strides.
While those who laughed with time to waste...
Seem to have vanished to other places,
To grace their faces with fates they've faked.
Or wish to make attempts to do it.
